The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi has felicitated with the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, SAN; who turns 64 years today.

Dr Fayemi in his congratulatory message in Ado-Ekiti by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Yinka Oyebode described Prof Osinbajo as a distinguished Nigerian, a pragmatic leader and man of honour with proven integrity, who deserves all the accolades befitting a national hero.

He described the Vice President as a man of many paths, who, early in life has devoted his time, training and talents to the service of God, nation and humanity.

Governor Fayemi also hailed Prof Osinbajo’s sacrifices during the country’s critical period, describing him as an invaluable asset, a selfless leader and a supportive Vice President to President Mohammadu Buhari.

“Prof Osinbajo is not only an accomplished Nigerian, he is a statesman par excellence and a leader who is truly committed to the unity and prosperity of our dear country.

“We can only wish him many more years of uncommon grace and honour as he continues to contribute to nation building.

Ekiti State government has directed workers on grade level 02-12 to resume  to their various offices next week  Monday.

To curtail the spread of COVID-19 Pandemic, the State Government in January 2021 directed that only officers on Grade Levels 13 and above should continue working in the office while officers on GL.02 to 12 were to work from home.

This and other measures put in place by the Government have helped control the spread of the virus.

In a statement in Ado Ekiti, the state Governor,  Dr  Kayode Fayemi  called on all officers to continue to take personal responsibility for their health, including proper use of  face  masks, regular hand washing and sanitizing as well as social distancing.

Dr Fayemi urged all Accounting Officers to ensure compliance with the above directives in their various MDAs.

An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court, sitting in Ado Ekiti has in a separate charge ordered the remand of two accused persons Deji Oke (35) and Ogunmiloyo Kehinde (22) in the Nigerian Correctional Center, Ado Ekiti for raping 11 and 13 year old girls.

In her ruling Magistrate, Olufunke Anoma said She found it difficult to overlook reports of rape and sexual assault on female children, which has now become recurring decimal on daily basis.

She explained that, the social enigma demands more urgent and proactive action from all stakeholders involved in child care delivery.

Magistrate Anoma ordered the remand of the duo in the custody of Nigerian correctional services and adjourned the matter to 18/03/21 for mention.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata told the court that the act was committed on 23/02/21 in Ado Ekiti.

He said the offence was punishable under section 31 of the Child Right Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The rape victims were later referred to the State Sexual and Harassment Referral Center for medical examination and psychological therapy.

Ekiti State Government Covid-19 taskforce has sealed off some business facilities in Ado for violating Covid-19 rules and regulations 

The team led by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public health Dr. Jimlas Ogunsakin also arrested about ten persons including staff of a new generation bank for not wearing face mask at public places

He argued that the non-compliance with the Covid-19 rules by some business owners was worrisome stressing that government would always ensure enforcement of the guidelines.

Dr. Ogunsakin noted that Government was poised to prevent the second wave of the pandemic, urging the people to comply with measures

He Issued warnings to some business owners, for partial compliance said that the monitoring would be a continuous exercise adding that the team would move from one local government to another.

An Ekiti state born Bachelor of Biology Education graduate from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Ayodele Olubusayo Abidemi has emerged one of the beneficiaries of the Presidential Award for Ex-Corps member by President Muhammad Buhari.

Ayodele olubusayo Abidemi had her PPA at the Abubakar TaTari Ali Polytechnic Secondary School, Bauchi and did a project at Rafin Makaranta Primary School, Bauchi.

During the presentation of the award in Abuja, President Muhammad Buhari offered scholarship and automatic employment to the 110 ex-corps members for their exemplary service and commitment to their fatherland.

A committee to look into complaints by some teachers who missed the Monday’s verification exercise has been set up in Ekiti state.

The state commissioner for Local Government, Professor Adio Folayan made this known to newsmen while reacting to the exercise held at Christ School, Ado Ekiti.

Professor Folayan directed those who had genuine complaints especially on health ground with medical report to appear before the committee while teachers who refused to participate in the  exercise should not bother to show up.

He lauded the teachers in public primary schools for their peaceful conduct, saying that the exercise was not aimed at witch hunting them but to fish out ghost ones collecting salaries illegally.

The commissioner pointed out that similar exercise was organised for local government workers last year where some ghost workers were uncovered.

Professor Folayan added that some council workers who had died and others that had traveled out of the country were still receiving salaries and such were detected but stopped after the exercise..

On his part, the state chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers, Mr One Emmanuel who thanked the state government for the exercise however urged Governor KAYODE Fayemi not to sack any teachers in the state.

Ekiti state government recently recruited 500 teachers for the public secondary schools and 600 for the public primary schools across the state.

Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a woman for allegedly abducting three children in Ado Ekiti.
A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Sunday Abutu affirmed that the woman was arrested after some residents around INEC Office, Bank Road, Ado-Ekiti raised an alarm that a strange woman, one Mrs Kazeem Tawa attempted to abduct three School Children.
According to him, upon the receipt of the information from the good samaritan, a team of joint patrol, comprising the Police, Army and other security agencies put in place by The Executive Governor of Ekiti State was dispatched to scene immediately and was able to rescue the children and apprehended the suspect.

The children while narrating their ordeal told the team that the woman pleaded with them to help her carry her bag containing some items to an unknown destination.
According to them, they refused initially but after a few moment of conversing with the woman, they became unconscious and started following the woman with her bag.
” It took the quick intervention of some mechanics around who noticed their suspicious movement to stop them. When asked about the children, she claimed that the children belong to her. But the scenario changed immediately when the children countered her that she was not their mother”.
During interrogation by the personnel of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the woman could not satisfactorily state her mission and reason for trying to lead the school children to an unknown destination.
Mr Abutu said Investigation was ongoing and as soon as it is completed, the suspect would be charged to Court.
Items recovered are: charm, soft drinks, oranges, drugs, adult/children slippers, fresh banana, maggi, garri, clothes, INEC jackets, and others.

Ekiti State Governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi has stressed the need for a review of the age of legal officers to be appointed as Judges in line with the ongoing reforms in the nations Judiciary sector.

Governor Fayemi spoke in Ado Ekiti at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed judge of the Ekiti State High Court, Justice Adeniyi Familoni.

He noted that young and vibrant Lawyers should be member of the Bench to inject fresh ideas and enhance justice delivery in the sector.

The Governor said that government was working towards ensuring the elevation of judges in the state to the supreme court as requested by the leadership of the judiciary.

Dr. Fayemi who stressed that government had initiated various reforms to ensure effective justice delivery emphasized the need for judges to show competence and integrity to boost citizens’ confidence.

He gave assurance that government would improve welfare of the judiciary officers and urged the new judge to always discharge his constitutional duties without fear or favour.

In a remark, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Mr. Wale Fapohunda described the new judge as an experienced and committed lawyer who had contributed to the growth of the legal profession.

Responding the new judge, Justice Adeniyi Familoni promised to be upright and fair in the discharge of his duty.

Born in ijero Ekiti in 1972, Justice Familoni began his career as a Legal Officer in the Ondo State Ministry of Justice in 1996, and later, Ekiti State Ministry of Justice where he held various offices including Director of Law Review, Director of the Citizens’ Rights, Director of Civil Litigations and Director of Public Prosecutions.

Until his elevation Justice Familoni was appointed Permanent Secretary in the Ekiti State Civil Service in April, 2019 and posted to Bureau of Chieftaincy Affairs.

The Ondo State 2020 Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Akure today resumed with an INEC top official, Mr. Tope Aina testifying as the electoral body opens its defence.

The PDP and its candidate, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede who are challenging the return of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of the APC, had last week Wednesday closed their case without calling their 399 witnesses listed.

At the resumed hearing of the petition, the Counsel to INEC, Charles Edosomwan, led the commission’s Director of operations, Mr. Tope Aina to a witness box, and adopted his statement on oath.

Counsel to the APC, Lateef Fagbemi, and that of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and the Deputy Governor, lucky Aiyedatiwa, Chief Akin Olujimi, cross-examined the INEC official on the nomination of Mr. Akeredolu as the APC candidate and subsequent publication of his name without any objection.

The counsel to the PDP candidate, Onyeakachi Ikpeazu also cross-examined the INEC official on issue bordering on the status of the APC national caretaker Chairman, Governor Mai Mala Buni who signed and submitted the nomination form of Mr. Akeredolu to the INEC.

The tribunal has adjourned till tomorrow Wednesday for further hearing of the petition brought by the PDP and its candidate, Mr. Jegede.

Governor Kayode Fayemi has confirmed the appointment of Mr Adeniyi Familoni, Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Chieftaincy Affairs as a Judge of the Ekiti state High Court.

This followed the recent reports of the National Judicial Council which screened and recommended mr Familoni for appointment as a judge in Ekiti state.

Mr Familoni began his career as a Legal Officer in the Ondo State Ministry of Justice in 1996, and later, Ekiti State Ministry of Justice where he, at various times, held offices as Director Law Review, Director Citizens Rights, Director Civil Litigations and Director Public Prosecutions.

He was appointed Permanent Secretary in the Ekiti State Civil Service in April, 2019 and posted to Bureau of Chieftaincy Affairs.

The Governor will formally swear in the new judge on Tuesday 19th January at the Conference Hall, Governor’s Office, Ado- Ekiti by 10am.

The Ekiti state government says the second term for the 2020/2021 academic session begins tomorrow, Monday and ends on the first of April.

A document from the ministry of Education indicates that the mid term is billed for Friday 26th of February while schools will vacate for two week holidays between 2nd of April and 18th of the same month.

According to the document, third term will start on Monday April 19 and run through Friday July 3 while the mid term holiday is scheduled for Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th of June.

It emphasizes that full academic work must commence in all schools on the first day of each term.

The statement directs school authorities to ensure full compliance with COVID-19 established protocols especially hand washing under running water and soap, maintenance of social distancing and compulsory wearing of face mask by students, pupils and teachers.

Going by the document, the second term has eleven weeks for academic work, two weeks for the end of term public holidays while the third term has fourteen weeks for academic activities and six weeks for public holidays after the term.

A suspected kidnapper who specializes in selling human parts in Ado Ekiti has been arrested.

He was arrested today at a abandoned uncompleted building located adjacent the Ekiti state Teaching Hospital Ado Ekiti

In the building, various pictures, human parts, charms and cheques collected from victims were found in his possession.

The suspect was handed over to the police who came to the venue.

Some residents who could identify the suspect said he had always been presenting as a lunatic on the street not knowing that he was involved in such devilish act.

The residents urged government to pull down the structure saying this is the third time similar incident would be reported from the building.

Ekiti State government has sealed off some private hospitals for operating illegally and using incompetent staff.

Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani closed the hospitals during an unscheduled visit to some private health facilities in the state.

Dr. Filani who was represented by the Director of Hospital Services and Training in the Ministry of Health and Human Services,  Dr. Olusanya Adetoye frowned at some of the  facilities visited that were operating in dirty environments and unprofessional personnel which he described as dangerous to  health system in the state.

He explained that government had met with proprietors of private health facilities in Ekiti state and issued warning on the use of trainees.

Dr. Filani threatened that government would not hesitate to prosecute any auxiliary doctor and nurse caught endangering the life of the people of Ekiti state.

Some of the facilities sealed included Odunayo medical center, Aaye Ekiti, City Medical Laboratory, Ado Ekiti, Masterpiece Diagnostic Care, Abundant Grace Hospital, Ado Ekiti and Good Heritage Hospital, Ado Ekiti.

APPEAL FOR PEACE IN EKITI AND SOUTH-WEST

Ekiti Kete, I address you today in respect of the current security situation in our State, south-west zone and Nigeria as a whole which has necessitated the imposition of curfew. The events of the last one week has been deeply troubling and of a great concern to me and many patriotic citizens of our dear State.

You would recall that on October 9, 2020, some concerned youths organised what was clearly a peaceful protest in Ado-Ekiti, just like their counterparts in other parts of Nigeria. The protest was commendably peaceful and their demand was justified. The main crux of their demand was to put an end to police brutality which was exemplified by the defunct State Anti-Robbery   Squad (SARS), a department of the police which had become notorious for very many professional misconduct.

This protest lasted for about eleven days without any security threats either to the protesters or the public. In fact, I instructed the security agencies to ensure that none of the protesters was molested. You would also recall that I addressed the protesters who picketed the roads leading to the Government House on October 16, 2020 while I was on my way to the Ekiti House of Assembly for the State of the State Address I told them that I was fully in support of the protest and their main demand. Even though an attempt was made to attack my convoy later at the House of Assembly, I held the view that the attack had nothing to do with the peaceful protesters I had earlier addressed, but rogue elements trying to take advantage of the situation.

Things took a dangerous turn over the weekend  as miscreants took advantage of the protest to launch an unimaginable level of violence on the public here in Ekiti and also in other contiguous states. Although, violence relating to the protest in Ekiti has been limited due to the proactive steps taken by government, the experience in other parts of the south west, especially Lagos has been horrendous and deplorable.

On Monday, 19th October, 2020, I met with the President in my capacity as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum to deliver a clear message from my colleagues on the need for a broadcast and careful handling of the protest which was degenerating in many States..

Now that the President has spoken acknowledging the demands and explaining what government is doing about them. I want to thank the leadership of the protest movement in Ekiti for calling off the protest. The import of the protest has been largely achieved. The Federal Government has banned the SARS department in response to the five demands made by the EndSARS movement and those held in SARS detention centres have been released.  In Ekiti, as in many States of the Federation, a Judicial Panel of Enquiry to look into the cases of abuses, extra-judicial acts and general misconduct which led to the protest, has been set up. A restitution fund to compensate for the losses of the victims of such abuses is also established while other demands like increase in salaries of police officers  is being attended to. 

I urge our youths who want nothing but a nation that serves and benefit all to show restraint in the way they pursue their demands. I fully understand and endorse the far-reaching message that the EndSARS protest articulated. It is generally a protest not just against brutality by police officers, but a wakeup call to all of us in positions of responsibility and the entire citizenry to have a new direction in the manner we handle the governance of the nation. It is a collective reminder to us that the urgency to act more decisively on how to improve the lot of our people is now. We must not let this seed to be emasculated in the crevice of violence that has attended the protest. This message has been well made. It is time for meaningful engagement. To this end, I am announcing the expansion of the mandate of our Youth Development Council with a view to deepening the State’s engagement  with our youths and ensuring speedier implementation of the Ekiti Youth Agenda in partnership with all critical stakeholders  in the youth constituency.

As a result of those who unleashed mayhem and brigandage on private and public property, the state government was compelled to impose a 24 hour curfew on the State. While calm has been restored  in most parts of the State, we have decided to watch development over the weekend before deciding on next steps. It is for this reason that I have extended the 24 hour curfew on the State until 0600hrs on Monday, 26th October 2020. This painful action was taken in the best interest of ourselves to ensure that the crisis does not escalate since criminals enjoy mimicking violent occurrences in other places. It is my hope that we will not have cause to extend the curfew any further. I want to urge all our traditional institutions, religious bodies, politicians and community leaders to use this weekend to engage the youth in their respective communities to give peace a chance. To this end, the curfew will allow an exception for Friday Jumat and Saturday and Sunday worship in churches.

In the meantime, security agencies have been instructed to exercise judicious restraint in response to the tense situation. The intention of Government is to ensure peace, under no condition should indiscretional responses be allowed to escalate the situation. I therefore appeal for the cooperation of our people and the security personnel who are doing a tremendous job to ensure that we live in peace.

As for those who may still want to test the resolve of government by engaging in violent action leading to a breakdown of law and order, I urge you to think twice because I will not hesitate to bring the full weight of the law against such errant conduct.

Finally, let me commiserate with those who have suffered losses as a result of the wanton destruction that occurred in the State.  May the Good Lord heal our land and give us strength to bring joy and succour where there is sadness, despair and despondency.

Ekiti State Governor, Dr. kayode Fayemi has imposed a twenty four hours curfew across the state commencing from ten o clock this evening.

In a statement the Secretary to the state Government, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji said the curfew was to prevent anarchy by some elements who have hijacked the peaceful protest against Endsars in the state.

Mr. Oyebanji said the hoodlums have capitalised on the ENDSARS protest to engage in robbery, rape and assault on innocent citizens in addition to the wanton destruction of private properties..

He noted that government was concerned that if such was allowed to continue unabated, it would lead to breakdown of law and order thereby threatening the wellbeing of the people of Ekiti State.

Mr. oyebanji said only essential workers and service providers with valid means of identification would be allowed during the period of the curfew.

The Ekiti state government scribe said any person found on the streets without any reason would be arrested and prosecuted according to the laws of the state.

Ekiti State Government has ordered the closure of all private and public schools in the State for the rest of the week. 

Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, D.r Olabimpe Aderiye  gave the order in a statement in Ado Ekiti. 

Dr. Aderiye explained that the directive became necessary to safeguard the lives of pupils, students, teachers and other staff members who are finding it difficult to get to their respective schools.

The Education commissioner expressed the hope that School activities would resume next week Monday.

The ENDSARS protests in Ekiti state took another dimension today as all roads leading to Ado Ekiti, the state capital from other towns were blocked.

As early as seven o’clock in the morning, the protesters have barricaded all routes within Ado Ekiti metropolis.

The development affected those going to their places of work, shops and students going to different schools.

Also, commercial activities were paralyzed while vehicular movement were restricted in every part of Ado Ekiti.

Many Parents ran to various schools to take their children who had already resumed before the mass protests.

Some of the places barricaded were, Ikere Ekiti- Akure road, Ado-Iworoko route, Ado-AFAO Road and Ado-Ijan Ekiti way among others.

Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation in Ekiti state, Mr. Akin Omole says feedback mechanism between the government and people of the state will be vigorously pursued.

Mr. Omole stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to the management of Radio Nigeria Progress FM, Ado-Ekiti.

He explained that the ministry of Information served as a link between government and the governed, hence he would do his best at projecting government activities to the public and get feedback from them.

The Commissioner for Information said he was at Progress FM to familiarize with the management of the station as he resumed to his new office recently.

Responding, General Manager of Progress FM, Mr. Dokun Ladele promised that the station would collaborate with the Ministry of Information to ensure that residents of the state were duly informed about government programmes and policies.

An industrialist, Mr Jide Ijadere who was kidnapped on Tuesday at Ilupeju-Ijan Ekiti has regained freedom.

Mr Ijadare was kidnapped while working on his groundnut oil factory while one of his workers was killed.

Ekiti State Police Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Sunday Abutu confirmed Mr Ijadare’s release to newsmen in Ado Ekiti 

He explained that the victim was released after a serious pressure on his abductors by officers of the command.

Mr Abutu urged members of the public to always assist police with useful information that could check criminal activities.

Abductors of Mr Ijadare had earlier contacted his family and demanded for a ransom of twenty million naira.

A new INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, has assumed duty in Ekiti State.

He is Dr Tellar Rahmon, a native of Osogbo, Osun State.

Dr Rahmon was recently sworn-in by the INEC National Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu in Abuja.

Until his appointment, Dr Tella Rahmon was a lecturer at the Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Management, Osun State University, Osogbo.

As Nigerians celebrate National Identity Day, the Ekiti State coordinator  of National Identity Management Commission, Mr Gbenga Ifayefunmi says about six hundred and fifty thousand people in the state have been registered into the national identity data base.. 

Mr Ifayefunmi told Radio Nigeria in Ado Ekiti that the Federal Government would soon develop a policy to ensure massive digital identity registration for Nigerians.

He stated that such digital registration would further assist government to check financial crimes, and assist government in planning for the future. 

Mr Ifayefunmi noted that there were challenges associated with registration which had made the commission in Ekiti to decentralize the registration to make it more comfortable to the people.

The Ekiti N.I.M.C coordinator urged the people of the state to ensure their full participation to validate their citizenship of Nigerians.

Ekiti state government has presented 100 million naira cheques to another 51 retired local government staff and primary school teachers as payment of gratuities to improve their standard of living.

At the ceremony in Ado Ekiti, Governor kayode Fayemi said the payment was in fulfillment of government promise to offset the outstanding gratuities of pensioners which would be done in phases.

Governor Fayemi who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Biodun Omoleye remarked that government would never play politics with the welfare of its retirees following their meritorious contributions to the development of the state.

He assured pensioners who have not benefitted from the payment of gratuities since its commencement that government was working on their cases as it would now be a continuous exercise…

Governor Fayemi promised that government would increase the monthly subvention to the pension office to accommodate more beneficiaries.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Professor Adio Folayan urged the pensioners to utilize the money for better purposes.

Some of the Pensioners described the gesture as laudable and implored government to let the payment get to all retirees.
