Oyo State Governor, Engineer ‘Seyi Makinde has urged his Special Assistants, on Federal Constituencies to work for the success of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidates in the April 2024 Local Government Elections.

The governor said this while inaugurating the Special Adviser and Special Assistants on Federal Constituencies at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

He tasked them to work hard with him to extend dividends of democracy to the people at the federal constituency level, stating that there is a lot of work to be done.

He said: “I want to congratulate Hon. Dare Adeleke and his team. It is a lot of work absolutely and I will tell you why. During the last election, out of the 14 federal constituencies, as a government, we lost nine and we had only five constituencies that PDP represents.

“We had Ibadan North-West/South-West, Ibadan North-East/South-East, Ogooluwa/Surulere, Iseyin/Itesiwaju, Iwajowa/Kajola and Ibarapa Central/ Ibarapa North. We have to ensure that, at the federal constituency level, we can extend dividends of democracy to the people.

“Yes, we have members of the state assembly in most of these federal constituencies but you need to also let them feel a sense of belonging. That is on the one side. On the other side, you need to mobilize our people to ginger party members.

“We have a local government election in April and I want our candidates delivered in all the federal constituencies.

So, that is the big task ahead of you. Even this weekend, we also have a bye-election in Saki. So, you have to mobilize our people and one thing I can tell you is that I will give you all the support necessary for you to perform.

The Special Adviser on Federal Constituency Matters, Dare Adeleke while noting that the 14 federal Constituency are not for PDP alone promised that irrespective of the political affiliations, his team would do his best for the development of the federal constituencies in Oyo State.

The Oyo State House of Assembly has commended the State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde for fulfilling his promise made to traditional religious worshippers during his electioneering campaign period to grant their request for special recognition of the Isese Day celebration in the State.

The House made this assertion while reacting to Governor Makinde’s approval that henceforth, every August 20 is dedicated as a public holiday to celebrate the Isese festival in the State as contained in a statement issued by the Secretary to the government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo on behalf of the Governor yesterday.

In a statement issued by the Chairman House Committee on Information, Media, Public Affairs and ICT, Hon. Waheed Akintayo, and made available to journalists, the House expressed its happiness that the motion it approved on August 9, 2023, for approval of August 20 as ‘Isese Day’ celebration has eventually gotten the nod of the Governor.

The House recalled that following a motion moved by its House Leader, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin which emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions and beliefs of traditional worshippers, it approved 20th of August as already designated by several other States in the South West as a special holiday for the celebration of Isese festival.

According to the statement, “we recalled with nostalgia that during the 2023 electioneering campaign, His Excellency, Gov. Seyi Makinde had expressed his support for granting a special day to celebrate Isese festival. He had promised the Isese adherents that he would honor their proposal once it was approved by the State House of Assembly.

With this historic decision by the Governor, Oyo State has set another example for other regions not only to celebrate and embrace their rich heritage but also to learn to foster unity and inclusivity among all religions without discrimination as being witnessed in some states in recent times.” The Statement added.

While congratulating the adherents of traditional worshippers on the celebration of this year’s Isese festival, the House called on them to use the Isese Day celebration to pray fervently for humanity, Oyo State, and prosperity in each individual’s household.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has signed the state’s 2023 Appropriation Bill, tagged “Budget of Sustainable Development” into law in Saki ,Oke Ogun area of the state.

The governor who assented to the bill at the headquarters of the Oyo State Agribusiness Development, Agency,(OYSADA),  in Saki, lauded the lawmakers for timely passage of the bill.

He said the budget would aid the completion of some projects as well as the state’s development initiatives.

Governor Makinde  added that his administration has been able to increase the state’s Internally Generated Revenue(IGR) to over N3.8 billion.

He said: “I have just signed the budget into law right here in Saki. “So, history has been made. Let me use this opportunity to thank the Speaker and other members of the Assembly for the speedy passage of the budget.

“I learnt that the lawmakers stayed very late to sign the budget yesterday( Thursday) and also that they were able to manage the House of Assembly workers, PASAN.

“This is a budget of sustainable development. We know that some of the projects and the work we started must be completed in 2023. So, this is a budget that has N155,677,143,034.34 for recurrent expenditure and N154,755,366,965.64 for capital. You will notice that recurrent is slightly higher than the capital expenditure and this is because we are going into a transition period.

“In 2023, a new Assembly will come in even though I hope that majority of the current members  will still be returned. “Right now, we have 27 PDP members in the State Assembly. For 2023, it will be 32/32.”

The Governor stated that the state’s budget has always performed above 50 percent, since he came into office adding that the decision to sign the budget in Saki  was historic. He also said that the decision was a testimony to the fact the state’s  economy is integrated  across all zones.

He added: “We are here in Saki in Oke-Ogun zone 2. Saki is the biggest economy around this place. Now, we can drive from Iseyin to Ogbomoso, though the road is not completely open, but we will complete it under the 2023 budget. Out of the 78km, I believe about 50km of it has already been tarred. The artwork to link everywhere remains only 10km. So, I know we have broken the back of that project, and in this 2023 budget, we have made provisions to finish that road.

“There are other additions under Omituntun 2.0 that we have anticipated what will happen, and we have made adequate provision in this budget I have just signed. “There will be solid minerals development and Tourism.

“Two days ago at he security council meeting, we were told by DSS  officials that they arrested a trailer with 25 tonnes of lithium. “Yes, they are mining lithium, which is the new gold, and Oyo State is a major lithium belt. So, we have to add solid mineral development to the mix and also tourism. I said tourism because every weekend, you can hardly get a hotel room in Ibadan. If you go to the hinterland, you will see that we are truly blessed and our environment is quite scenic.

“To ensure that we operate in a safe and secure environment, the 500 newly recruited Amotekun personnel have been trained, and their deployment would begin tomorrow, 24th of December, 2022.”

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Professor Musbau  Babatunde, said that the budget  is an inclusive one and  that the whole  Oyo State has made  input into it.

He said : “The budget we are signing today is an inclusive one that the whole of Oyo State has made their input into it. When we came for consultative meeting here and other zones, the people told us what they wanted the government to put in the budget.”We collated everything, and we met in Ibadan and came up with a conclusion. “We did not just allocate figures for the budget, it was a rigorous project that science, data and logic guided.

“The figure of the budget we are signing today is what will improve the welfare of the good people of Oyo State. Our budget was not performing very well when we came into government. It was 27 per cent. But now, we have been going above 50 per cent.

“We really appreciate all the support you have given to us and we promise that the budget will be adequately implemented.”

Earlier in his remarks, the Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, reiterated that the budget is a product of the synergy and collaboration by all the three arms of government in the state.

The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, has described a news story which indicated that the governor attended a rally of the Labour Party in honour of its presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, as a compelling falsehood, aimed at confusing the fickle-minded.

The governor’s aide, in a statement, said that Makinde, who took a deserved leave after handing over power to his deputy, Bayo Lawal, was yet to return to Ibadan when the said Obidients’ rally took place.

The statement read: “Our attention has been drawn to an online publication, which indicated that Governor Makinde was spotted among the Obidients during a rally in Ibadan, on Saturday, September 3, 2022.

“To say the least, the publication is a falsehood, packaged to deceive the unsuspecting.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Makinde was nowhere near Ibadan when the said rally was held. A Yoruba adage says one person cannot stand in twos. How is it possible for the governor, who is observing the last days of his leave outside the country to be spotted among the so-called Obidients in Ibadan?

“While we will not begrudge the Obidients’ desire to propagate their candidate, we will not oblige anyone the luxury of dragging the reputation of the Governor of Oyo State on accounts of false claims.”

According to NACA, the donation came after the state has been assessed and found worthy in the area of effective utilisation of public equipment under Governor Makinde’s watch.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, quoted the SSG as appreciating NACA for the donation, stating that Governor Makinde administration’s focus to revolutionise the sector has begun to yield positive results.

She said: “Today, I am here representing the governor and I must sincerely say thank you for these eight ambulances and for all the equipment in the hospitals.

“As I do say, health is one of our cardinal points in this administration. “So, any help we can get for any of our health facilities or that will augment any of our health programmes will be very much appreciated.

“When we came on board as an administration, we found out that the ambulances we had were in very bad condition. So, in the last two and a half years, we have bought ambulances and about fifteen ambulances have been donated to us, which have been all deployed.

“So, I give you the assurance of His Excellency and the administration that these eight ambulances will also be deployed accordingly.”

Speaking earlier, Ogundipe pointed out that the donation of the ambulances was made following Governor Makinde’s request at a meeting in Geneva, where he dialogued with the Global Fund.

“On behalf of my Director-General, who has only one appeal that is, in line with the office of His Excellency; these should be deployed for purpose, kept for purpose, maintained and insured, because there will be periodic monitoring and he will like to let you know that it is possible that additional equipment could come based on the maintenance and utilisation of these equipment.

“So, I have the pleasure to hand over the particulars, the keys and documents, transferring the ownership of these eight ambulances and equipment, as well as the medical equipment that have been delivered earlier to these ten facilities,” Ogundipe said.

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, insisted on Thursday that his administration will continue to support the management of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) to become the number one team on the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) sphere.

The governor added that he would like to see the team participate in continental football this season, stating that though the team’s recent results were commendable, they should not relent until they become number 1 on the NPFL table.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, indicated that Governor Makinde stated these while receiving the management of 3SC, at the Executive Council Chamber of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan
The team which was led by its Technical Adviser, Mr. Dimeji Lawal was in the Governor’s office to officially present the Club’s new signings.

The governor, who unveiled the three new players that recently joined the 3SC – Sunday Faleye, Sunday Akreche and Niyi Adekunle – said the Club’s monthly subventions will be increased starting from February 2022.

He equally commiserated with the team and the family of the immediate past General Manager, the late Mr. Rasheed Balogun, noting that his government would do everything it is supposed to do for his family.

This was as he announced that the Technical Adviser and Team Manager of the Club, ex-Super Eagles player, Dimeji Lawal, would act as General Manager until the government takes a decision on the issue.

He said: “I know you guys are doing well and I want to say congratulations on your result. I want to commend the management for a job well done. You are number 6 on the table now but we want to see you on number 1 and I know you can do it.

“I have been following the trend since you got promoted to the premiership division. Some of the things that the team manager mentioned are germane.

“From some of the things we have done, few things came up. One, is the structure of the team. As a result of the loss of the General Manager, we felt the position should not be vacant. So, I consulted and what will happen is, Dimeji Lawal will play the dual role of Team Manager as well as acting General Manager pending when we can have clarity.

“When the financial request came, we thought of how to get the players in within the period available for us. We felt that, structurally, if we want the team to do well, there must be a way to respond quickly because we know you would need support. So, I decided to look for something close to a sole administrator and I will take the team under the Governor’s Office, which means every time you need anything, you can come directly to me and I will give the support to the team.

“Quite frankly, I want to see this team play at the continental level next year and I want to take responsibility for that by having to keep direct channel with the administration of the team.

“The last thing we also noticed from the challenges we have had to face in the last couple of weeks is the fact that the same subvention you were getting when you played in the NNL is still what you have right now, even though you have to cover the entire country and you also have players that may be more expensive than the players that you used to have. So, we have decided to do something about the subvention.

“We will increase the subventions and it will be directly under my office. But I will ensure that the entire money that will be released through that channel is properly utilised for the benefit of the club and the welfare of the players. And if I need to add personal money, I will do it for us to get our desired result. So, from this month of February, you will have an increase in your subvention and it will be released immediately.”

The governor equally charged the new signings to put in their best to deliver good results to the Club and the state, as, according to him, Oyo State people would not let them off if they do not produce the expected positive results.

He added that the government will also give appropriate reward if the Club can deliver on expectations, saying: “To our new players, we have a vision and Ibadan people would want you to deliver a good result. They will give you the support but don’t let them down.

“On that note, I want to wish you success as part of the team. If we achieve the target of continental football next year, you can be sure that I will be here to give appropriate rewards to you all.”

Earlier, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr. Seun Fakorede, appreciated the governor for fulfilling all promises made to the Club.

Fakorede, who presented the trio of Faleye, Akreche and Adekunle as the new signings of 3SC, said the purpose of the visit was to “familiarize our new players with you. We would like to appreciate you for what you have been doing for the Club and all this is because we have a governor who is interested in sports and not looking back.

“You assured us that within two years, the Shooting Stars would get back to playing in the elite league and this surely happened. It was not just empty words, you knew what to do to actually make it possible for us.

“So, thank you very much for the love you have for the team and for fulfilling your promises.”

Similarly, the Team Manager, Lawal, appreciated Governor Makinde for his love and passion for the Club, stating that the governor has kept every promise he made to 3SC.

In attendance at the event were the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Olubamiwo Adeosun; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi; Head of Service, Alhaja Ololade Agboola; Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola and other political functionaries.
