Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, commissioned the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Dream Centre at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, urging youths to dream big, work patiently, and tap into their God-given potential.

Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, built the centre, while the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) equipped it.

Senator Tinubu stressed inclusivity: “The Dream Centre serves not just girls but boys too. We brought books and materials—some free, others for the library.”

She shared how positive role models shaped her life, calling the centre a symbol of her journey.

The First Lady encouraged OAU students to use its resources fully, cautioning against overambition while affirming that “God has deposited everything you need to achieve your dreams inside you.”

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, praised Senator Tinubu as a pillar for President Bola Tinubu.

“Your Excellency, this Dream Centre is your living legacy,” he said, thanking her and urging OAU to partner with well-meaning individuals to attract investors.

NITDA Director General Mr. Kasifu Abdullahi and OAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Adebayo Bamire highlighted President Tinubu’s education policies as Nigeria’s cornerstone for renewal and prosperity.

They described the event as a showcase of digital technology, artificial intelligence, and storytelling to preserve the nation’s history for future generations.Our correspondent reports that Senator Tinubu also commissioned 50 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and 10 tricycles donated to OAU, easing transport for staff and students.

The event drew Soun of Ogbomoso Oba Afolabi GhandI, Ajero of Ijero-Ekiti Oba Joseph Adewole, wives of Southwest state governors, wives of senators, wives of House of Representatives members, wives of former state governors, Ogun State APC Chairman Sooko Tajudeen Olaniyi, and other dignitaries.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, received a jubilant welcome in Modakeke, Osun State, during a historic visit that underscored a renewed commitment to peace and collaboration between the two communities.

Thousands of residents lined the streets as traditional drummers and cultural troupes heralded the Ooni’s arrival at the palace of the Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Joseph Toriola.

In his address, Oba Toriola praised the Ooni’s dedication to harmony across Yorubaland.

 “We see what you are doing across Yorubaland, in the North, East and even abroad. You have allowed peace to reign, and for that, we are grateful,” Oba Toriola stated.

The Ogunsua then shifted focus to two critical local issues as he called for enhanced security measures, citing reports of bandit incursions, and made a direct political appeal.

“Kabiyesi, the time has come for an Ife-born governor. Let us work together to achieve this,” Oba Toriola declared.

President of the Modakeke Progressive Union, MPU, Professor Olawunmi, described the day as “heroic,” crediting both monarchs with demonstrating an “uncommon commitment to peace.”

Responding, Ooni Ogunwusi expressed gratitude for the visible progress in Modakeke under Oba Toriola’s reign, specifically noting the construction of the new palace.

He assured the community of his continued support and promised to attend the forthcoming Akoraye Day celebration.

“As requested, I will not be far away from Modakeke. This is my home,” the Ooni said, urging a final break from past conflicts.

“Let us forget old rifts. Anyone who does not want peace to reign should be helped to stay away.”

He directly addressed those who might exploit the harvest season to stir tension under the guise of the historic Ife-Modakeke rivalry, firmly stating that such acts belong to the past.

“No war can ever happen again between Ife and Modakeke, not under my reign as the Arole Oduduwa. Those who cause trouble are thieves, not our people,” Ooni Ogunwusi declared.

The event concluded with the Ooni praying for lasting peace, unity, and progress, while urging the youth to embrace hard work and shun violence.

The gathering included numerous high-ranking traditional leaders from both Ife and Modakeke among whom were the Obalaaye of Iraye Kingdom, Oba Eludoja Elugbemi, the Lowa Ate of Ile-Ife, Arode of Ile-Ife, Oosa of Modakeke, Asipa Balogun of Modakeke, Balogun Iyalode of Modakeke.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and one of his queens, Olori Tobi, have welcomed twins.

The Ooni shared the news on his verified Instagram account, revealing that Olori Tobi gave birth to a prince and princess on Saturday.

He said, “To God be the glory, great things he has done. Hearty congratulations to the entire House of Oduduwa and Olori Tobiloba, who today birthed a prince and princess to the royal throne of Oduduwa.

“Mother and children are doing well to the glory of God Almighty.”

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to give assent to the Nigerian Peace Corps, NPC, establishment Act that is yet to be signed into law.

Governor Adeleke made the call at the passing-out parade of some officers of the Corps in Osogbo.

Represented by his aide, Mr. Ajisafe Toyese, the governor said when the bill is assented to by the president, it would go along way in providing jobs to the large number of unemployed youths and also ensuring peace and unity in the country.

According to him, the Nigerian Peace Corps would help to complement the tireless efforts of other security sister agencies towards maintaining peace across the country.

Governor Adeleke while calling on the Nigerian Peace Corps to unite in forming a common front towards achieving its mandate upon which it is being established, advised the new officers cadets to show discipline and focus when discharging their various duties anywhere they might be posted to.

He commended the Commandant-General of the NPC, Dr. Mustapha Abubakar and his officers for ensuring that the passing-out parade was successful.

Earlier, the Oni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ojaja 11, and the grand patron of the Corps, commended the Corps Commamdant for choosing Osun as its Southwest Zonal Command Training School.

The Ooni, represented by Obalufe of Ife, Oba Adediwura Olaniyi urged the new officers cadets to be more committed, dedicated, hardworking, disciplined, show love and focus when carrying out their operational duties.

In his remarks, the Commandant General (CG) of the Nigerian Peace Corps , Dr. Mustapha Abubakar, thanked President Buhari for accepting to give assent to the Nigerian Peace Corps Establishment Act.

Dr Abubakar said the undiluted loyalty and commitment to the Nigerian Peace Corps was to ensure that youths realised the cultural values and morals, including inclusiveness and peaceful coexistence of all Nigerians.

He charged the new cadets to make time for personal development which would go along way in adding value to their service in the NPC.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has condemned the barbaric attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa, Owo, Ondo State , killing many persons and injuring more others.

He described as a gruesome massacre the dastardly act targeted at turning Yorubaland to a war zone, saying Yoruba people have the capacity to defend themselves even though they are peace loving.

In a statement by his Director of Media & Public Affairs, Moses Olafare, the monarch who warned against plan by the group blood sucking enemies of God who had vowed to destabilise the Southwest region decried the vulnerability of Nigerians especially the poor who he said are often victims of violent attacks.

Oba Ogunwusi recalled that 6th of June made it exactly one year when an invading gang of killer herdsmen killed at least over 20 people in Igangan, Ibarapa North local government of Oyo State on Saturday night, leaving several houses, the palace of the Asigangan and a popular petroleum station were burnt in the attack when people were asleep.

The Ooni who is the co-chairman of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria l, explained that there have been reports that some criminals are currently working to invade to wreck havoc in the Yorubaland like the one that just happened in Owo on Sunday.

He, however, said the descendants of Oduduwa cannot be overrun in their own home as they are prepared and ready to defend themselves against external invaders.

“Rather than discouraging us, this will rather strengthen us especially in our resolve to deploy manpower, resources and technology towards the protection of lives and properties.

He urge the six governors across the south west region and their counterparts nationwide as well as the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government, to live up to their oaths of securing Nigerians and ensuring safety for the citizenry.

The Ooni however commiserated with the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, the entire Owo kingdom, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Ondo State Government, the people of Owo, the Priest and parishioners of St. Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa, Owo, families of all the victims, and the entire people of Ondo State over the tragic and senseless killings.

The socialite stepped out in grand style for a wedding event with lots of high profile personalities.

The Ooni was one of the VIPs to grace the occasion, and Ronke who is a big fan of his walked up to him for a video.

Sharing the video online, she captioned it with, “I couldn’t get a picture, I got a video with His Royal Majesty, Ooni of Ife”.

It would be recalled that Ronke Tiamiyu had stirred tribal sentiments by pinning her failed relationships on the particular guys she dated.

According to the former Miss Charismatic, Yoruba guys talk too much, which explained why her first relationship could not stand the test of time.

She further opined that Igbo guys are better as they are coded to date.

“Seriously I think Yoruba boys talk too much, no offence. I dated an Igbo boy in that same Lagos for 2 years plus and nobody hears am, just a few of his close friends, the Yoruba boy I dated after him under a week, the relationship was the talk of the town.” She said

“I was shaken because I was still forming codes, as we both agreed to keep it on the low, he told everyone that cared to know and the relationship. The relationship did not even last for 2 months, not being tribalistic but damn, some Yoruba boys talk way more than women.” She continued.

The 8th Day Inter-religious prayers for the departed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III could be likened to a day of tributes as religious and traditional leaders eulogised the impactful life of the monarch.

Leading Fidau prayers for the monarch, the Chief Imam of Oyo, Sheikh Mashood Ajokidero pointed out that Oba Adeyemi was a devout worshipper of Allah, who lived a fulfilled life.

While delivering a lecture, the Grand Mufti of Ilorin, Sheikh Sulaiman Faruq-Onikijipa who described death as a manifestation of God’s supremacy over all human beings enjoined people to be conscious of the day they would render their stewardship before Allah.

The cleric who stressed that Oba Adeyemi was a prominent creature before God, cautioned people against passing unwarranted comments about his private life.

The chairman, of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Oyo zone, Reverend Akin Alabi while describing the Alaafin as a monarch who accommodated all religions, urged Nigerians to live in accordance with the will of God.

Speaking on behalf of all traditional rulers, the Ona Onibode of Igboho land, Oba Abdrosheed Jayeola attributed the elevation of many traditional rulers in Oke-Ogun to the crown-wearing status to the efforts of the departed Alaafin and called on the Oyomesi to source for a suitable successor for the sustenance of Yoruba culture.

Bashorun of Oyo, High Chief Yusuf Akinade-Ayoola stated that the death of Oba Adeyemi was a collective loss to the Yoruba race.

The Seriki Fulani of Oyo State, Yakubu Bello and the Igbo Leader of Oyo State, Chief Aloysius Chukwu described Oba Adeyemi as detribalised, peace-loving and an enigma worthy of emulation.

In an interview with Radio Nigeria, a representative of the Yoruba people in the Bènin Republic, Dr Clement Kusiade, the Umu Muminat of Oyo State, Alhaja Kafilat Kaola and an aide to Oba Adeyemi, Mr Chinedu Joel described the monarch as a rare gem who showcased Yoruba culture across the world, saying the monarch would be missed for his fatherly role. 

The well-attended prayer session had in attendance the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, represented by Oba Adekunle Adebowale, the Olubaban of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, represented by the Osi Olubaban, High Chief Edward Oyewole, and the Okere of Saki, Oba Khalid Olabisi.

The Origin of ancient Glass Technology in Nigeria has been discovered in Igbo-Olokun forest in Ile-Ife in Osun State.

The onsite exhibition of the Glass Technology was conducted at the Igbo-Olokun Heritage site where the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi called for funding of efforts to unravel great contributions of the black man to global civilisation.

The historical discovery is a product of an archaeological excavation that started in 2011 at the Igbo-Olokun forest.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi who led the exhibition maintained that evidence abounded that pointed to the fact that the black were well established as material scientists as far as over one thousand years before the colonial invasion of the territory.

Oba Ogunwusi appealed for collaboration between government and culturally conscious Nigerians to promote more archaeological research to unearth some of Africa’s artefacts buried below as well as establish heritage sites to attract commercial value to them.

Osun State Governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, represented by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Adebisi Obawale said government had taken steps for the protection and preservation of cultural heritage in the state.

Governor Oyetola announced that his administration was already partnering the Federal government to ensure that many other significant historical sites passed the listing of the UNESCO World heritage site test.

The Governor commended the researcher for his sense of patriotism and residents of the Igbo-Olokun site for the support provided during the research work.

Also speaking, the Director-General of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments Professor Aba Isa Tijani stated that the exhibition was capable of serving as an agent of cultural reawakening and international Unity.

Represented by the Curator of the Museum of Unity in Ibadan Oyo State, Prince Adedoyin’Sikiru, the Director-General called for more efforts to excavate more of Ile-Ife sculptures of outstanding qualities still buried beneath the soil.

Conducting the guests around the site, the researcher who is an archaeologist with the British Museum, Dr Abidemi Babalola explained that it was evident from Ile-Ife glass Technology that for development to happen in Nigeria, the people must look inward.

Dr Babalola expressed concern that all the significant research work carried out to prove that Africa had a rich and civilised past were still being sponsored and funded by governments, groups and individual from Europe and America.

Similarly, the Director of the AG Leventis Museum of Natural History at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Professor Adisa Ogunfolakan argued that developing such heritage sites could provide employment for the youth and generate income from tourism.

The Igbo-Olokun Heritage site, located in the heart of Ile-Ife was said to be an organised glass bead industrial area occupying about 500 meters of space up to the 18th century.

A German anthropologist Leo Frobenius reportedly exhumed the popular Yoruba artefact “Ori-Olokun” from the site in 1911.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja 11, on Sunday began seven days of seclusion preceding the annual Olojo Festival in the ancient city.

Olojo in Yoruba means “the day of the first dawn”, but in the lores of Ile-Ife, it is an annual cultural festival created to celebrate the day the Almighty created the earth.

Speaking before going incommunicado, Oba Ogunwusi said he would dedicate this year’s seven-day seclusion to pray for a better Nigeria.

The Ooni said Nigerians had every cause to thank God in view of the devastating effect of COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the rest of the world.

He said: “When we compare what have been happening in other nations, we have every cause to glorify God, for He has been so faithful to us by delivering us from the power of Coronavirus.

“Our efforts to protect people from the pandemic by providing fumigators for 36 states and Abuja, the FCT cannot be overemphasised.

“But we shouldn’t relent in our efforts to see to the welfare of people generally that’s why am dedicating my sixth seclusion on the throne to pray for our leaders.

“Seclusion is so significant that I cannot joke with because I inherited it from my ancestors thousands years ago.”

The Oba said he would also use his period seclusion to pray for God to touch the hearts of Nigerian politicians to stop playing games with people’s lives and be sensitive to people’s yearnings.

Ogunwusi said: “Our politicians in this country have the same value, same character, politicians, but I’m going into seclusion to pray for our leaders to have change of mind so that things could get better.

“Our leaders should be ready to serve us genuinely as promised during their campaigns, so I’m going there to pray to my ancestors to touch their hearts for them to make life more bearable to us.

“We cannot continue like this.

“Things need to change and there cannot be any change without the hands of God for the prayer of the righteous availeth much.”

There is the urgent need for an effective legislative framework on the funding of education in Nigeria to enable every citizen have access to quality education.

Vice Chancellor, Dominican University, Ibadan, Professor Anthony Akinwale stated this while delivering a lecture titled “University and Nigeria: A Critical Survey” at the 106th National Executive Council, NEC, meeting of the University of Nigeria Alumni Association, held in Ibadan.

Professor Akinwale, who lamented that the current standard of education in Nigeria was nothing to write home about, stressed that education must be adequately funded by the government, Alumni associations and other relevant stakeholders.

The don also called on universities’ managements to ensure they run in a truly democratic system which he said would translate into the type of democracy needed for meaningful development in the country.

Chairman on the occasion, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, who was represented by the Alara Oodaye of Araland, Ile-Ife, Oba Adebisi Layade, said university alumni associations had critical roles to play in taking the country to an enviable height.

Earlier, National President, University of Nigeria Alumni Association, Mr. Ben Okoronkwo said the theme of the NEC meeting was borne out of the need for stakeholders to pay more attention to university education in Nigeria.

The NEC meeting, which featured presentation of awards to distinguished individuals including Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, Deputy Governor of the state, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan, wife of Ondo State Governor, Mrs. Betty Akeredolu, also witnessed the presentation of an award of excellent performance to Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN.

Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi says despite the current challenges, there will never be war in Yoruba land and the country in general.

Addressing a group of women named “Obinrin Oodua” at his palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Oba Ogunwusi also assured them that the insecurity, the political and the socio-economic crises in the country would soon be over.

The co-chairman, National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria reminded the people that there was no time Yorubaland disintegrated but always remained a rallying point in the country.

Oba Ogunwusi, who appreciated the women for standing firm for Yoruba race as mothers, later prayed for them with traditional items including honey, salt, water, kolanuts and bitterkola.

Earlier, the leader of the group, Yeye Simisade Onayemi disclosed that Ifa oracle recently revealed that there could be war in Yorubaland if the insecurity across the southwest region was not nipped in the bud.

She announced that her group would be visiting five other prominent palaces for royal blessings, while the people should continue to pray fervently in the way of their ancestor to avert the war.

It was a show of love at Ilaji Hotel and Resorts Center where various tribes in Ibadan, traditional rulers across the Southwest of Nigeria as well as notable sons and daughters of Ibadanland gathered to celebrate the fifth year coronation anniversary of Olubadan of Ibadanland.

The event was organized by Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi who also graced the occasion.

Other dignitaries at the event aprt from the Ooni of Ife, are Eze Ndigbo in Ibadan, Dr. Alex Anozie, Minister of Youth and Sports Mr. Sunday Dare and members of the Olubadan in Council.

The event featured several display of Yoruba culture, cutting of the anniversary cake, and presentation of gifts.

Many of those who spoke with Radio Nigeria including the Chief Executive Officer, Ilaji Hotel and Resorts Center, Chief Dotun Sanusi described the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji as a man of peace who worked to ensure unity among various tribes in the city.

At the ceremony, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, who could not hide his joy over the coronation anniversary ceremony prayed for the Olubadan and continued peace in the Ibadanland.

Speaking on behalf of Olubadan, the Chief Media officer to the monarch, Mr Adeola Oloko who expressed gratitude to the Ooni of Ife for organising the ceremony, said the event was organized to thank God for the peace that reigns in Ibadanland.

Mr. Oloko therefore advised Nigerians to tolerate each other for the progress and development of the country.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has unveiled an indigenous drug for the cure and prevention of viral infections. 

The drug named, Verozil which is available in capsules, blisters packs, and liquid was certified by the body regulating sales and use of drugs in Nigeria, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). 

Speaking during the launch at the Banquet Hall of Ooni’s Palace, Ile-Ife, Oba Ogunwusi said, it was a great day and privilege to unveil indigenous medicines noting that its potency had been tested and confirmed by government regulatory bodies.  

The monarch hinted that the herbal medications had been administered on lots of COVID-19 patients to boost their immune system including political leaders, noting that as the world celebrates the COVID-19 vaccine, Nigeria people are also unveiling indigenous solutions.

Earlier, in the address of a prominent herbal medicine practitioner, Chief Akintunde Ayeni, who worked in conjunction with the palace on the medications revealed that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi phoned him during the first wave of COVID-19 and inquired from him what he was doing in respect of the deadly virus.

He said Oba Adeyeye sent him some recipes that they could use in making indigenous supplement to fight COVID-19 which he studied and gave birth to what was being launched. 

Also, the Senior Special Assistant, SSA, to the President on Job Creation and Youth Employment in the Office of the Vice President of Nigeria, Mr Afolabi Imoukhuede, in his goodwill messages commended Oba Adeyeye for his commitment to local contents and passion for National development.

Osun state Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola has restated his administration’s commitment to prioritise tourism for huge economic gains and rapid development of the State.

Governor Oyetola who stated this at year 2020 Olojo festival in Ile Ife assured that his government was fully aware of the abundant opportunities inherent in the preservation and promotion of the state’s heritage and tourism.

He said government was resolved to prioritise the tourism sector as one of the economic pillars to drive the State’s economy.

Governor Oyetola described as huge the contributions of culture and tourism infrastructure to the economic development of the State hence the need for government to give priority to the sector.

The governor said government was making stringent efforts to build a sustainable tourism industry in the State through collaboration with local and international partners.

In a remark, Oni of ife,Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi maintained that culture remained symbol of identity, saying critical stakeholders in the tourism sector must be alive to their responsibilities by promoting Yoruba culture to international community.

Oba Ogunwusi emphasized the need government to harness the nation cultural potential for employment and wealth creation.

Osun State Police Command has inaugurated the Community Police Committee

Speaking at the event which was held at the Osun State Police Headquarters in Osogbo, the state governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola said the government would support every effort aimed at incorporating the grassroots into their own security.

Mr Oyetola who was represented by the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftain Affairs, Prince Bayo Adeleke also charged local government authorities and the traditional rulers to support the police in this regards.

The governor expressed confidence in improved security of lives and property with the renewed coming on board of the community policing initiatives.

In his welcome address, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Johnson Kokumo said the initiatives were aimed at making the people more active in their own security.

The Police Commissioner explained that the Federal Government was committed to ensuring the effectiveness of the community policing as a potent tool to protect lives and security.

Mr Kokumo charged the various communities to take ownership of the initiative by supporting the police to make the whole state safe.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi who was represented by the Lowa of Ile Ife, said since the people knew themselves and people in their domain, their security could not be the sole responsibility of police alone.

Similarly, another Monarch, the Eburu of Iba, Professor Adekunle Adeoogun commended the Federal government for recognising the relevance of the traditional rulers in the security of their kingdom.

The Chairman of the Harmonised Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Alhaji Ridwan Hussein warned against the politicisation of the community policing scheme.

Residents of some rural communities who attended the inauguration told Radio Nigeria that the people at the grassroots were happy with the development.
