The intervention of some residents of Ogbomoso was enough to frustrate the strategies of a fetish motorcycle thief around Road Safety area in the ancient city.

The incident happened around three o’clock on Thursday afternoon.

A witness who sells petty items in a roadside shop claimed she saw the men in front of her shop on a motorcycle.

She said the passenger on the motorcycle who was evidently younger than the rider suddenly alighted from the motorcycle and dragged the rider down, saying in Yoruba language, “my friend come down”.

The source said she became suspicious seeing such a young man calling an elderly his friend.

The witness said after dragging the rider who at that point appeared unconscious to the road side, the suspect lit a cigarette and started smoking as a decoy in order to paint a picture that all was well.

The aged witness who explained that she gazed at the two of them and realized that the rider had become totally unconscious said, she quietly crossed to the other road side to alert people of what was happening.

She said an Okada rider who came to the scene following the alarm raised was also hypnotized by the suspect who pushed him back, convincing him that the rider was drunk.

She maintained that the Okada rider was only able to retrieve the motorcycle key from the suspect.

The trader said the suspect attempted to touch her but she repelled the move and when the situation appeared to be getting out of hand, the suspect boarded a commercial bus unchallenged claiming he was going to call the victim’s family.

On his part, the Okada rider who was alerted said as soon as he got to the scene, the suspect pushed him back with mystical power and gave him five hundred naira.

He said from that point, he lost consciousness and recovered only after the suspect had gone.

Some sympathisers who visited the scene said the suspect had used some mystical powers on the victim.

A former governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, says insecurity in the state is not being sponsored by any politician.

He stated this while speaking with Radio Nigeria in his hometown, Ogbomoso.

Otunba Alao-Akala who noted that no politician would ever play politics with insecurity, said Oyo State was only having its share of prevailing insecurity issues facing Nigeria.

The former governor said the Oyo State government had harkened to his previous advice on checking insecurity in the state.

“The security problem in the country is not only in Oyo State. I am not comfortable because part of the state is witnessing unrest, particularly Ibarapa North and Central. They cannot sleep with their eyes closed. I am worried.”

“The other time I advised that there should be an enlarged stakeholders’ security meeting in the state whereby everyone can advise the government on how to go about security challenges. I think he has done that and by doing that he should leave security of each domain to traditional rulers who know people in their own territory.”

“There is no politician who will play politics with security. No politician that wants results will try that. Politics involves all of us, so if I play politics with security, how do you know if it won’t catch up with me. I don’t believe that any politician is behind what is happening in Oyo state.” He said.

Speaking on Eid-el-kabir celebrations, Otunab Alao-Akala urged Nigerians to take the path of God.

The ex-governor said if there was fear of God, all the security challenges in the country would be surmounted. Adedayo Adelowo
