Ogun State House of Assembly wants the Ministry of Health to create awareness among residents on the existence of fake websites extorting prospective applicants into the state’s schools of nursing.

The Speaker of the House, Mr Oludaisi Elemide made the call while reacting to the presentation by the Minority Leader, Mr Lukman Adeleye who raised the issue under a matter of urgent public importance.

Mr Adeleye had informed the House about a series of complaints from his constituents that prospective applicants into the schools of nursing across the state had discovered that the cloned websites were being used to extort money from unsuspecting applicants under the pretext of offering admissions into the schools.

The House Minority Leader urged the Ministry of Health to educate the people on the features of the original website of the institutions, while also educating them on the process for admission and the need to avoid financial transactions on the fake websites.

The lawmakers unanimously cautioned parents and guardians of prospective applicants to be careful and seek clarification from the State Ministry of Health before proceeding with the admission process for their wards given the challenges of Information and Communication Technology, ICT.
