The Judicial Panel of Investigation into Brutality and Human Rights violation by the Police and other Security Agencies in Ogun State wants the Ogun State Government to pay about 219 million naira to forty-two persons or families of persons affected by brutality across the state.

Chairman of the panel, Retired Justice Solomon Olugbemi gave the recommendation at the Governor’s office, Oke-Mosan Abeokuta, when the panel submitted its reports to the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun. 

He explained that the total sum of two hundred and eighteen million, eight hundred and forty eight thousand, five hundred naira was estimated by the committee to cover the number of people who submitted petitions that were treated by the committee. 

Retired Justice Olugbemi who urged the state government to study the report and implement the recommendations equally called for prompt investigation and discipline of officers found guilty of brutalising the people. 

The panel chairman stressed the need for the present administration in the state to put in place a mechanism that would address human rights violations among security agencies in the state.

In a remark, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun said his administration would ensure that the report was implemented towards promoting a peaceful society that would engender a more robust relationship between the people and security agencies.

Ogun and Lagos State governments are collaborating with relevant stakeholders to work out the modalities to check incessant gas explosions in both states.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun stated this during a visit to the scene of a gas explosion that razed Ogun State Property and Investment Corporation, OPIC Plaza in Ikeja, Lagos.

Governor Abiodun said the two states would work with the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, and others to ensure that all tankers carrying petroleum products were critically examined to ascertain their road worthiness. 

Governor Abiodun who commended the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, for its prompt response, gave the assurance that the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, signed recently by the two states would be explored to enhance the safety of lives and property of the people. 

The governor who described the OPIC fire incident as unfortunate sympathized with the families of those that were caught in the disaster and prayed God to comfort them.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has inaugurated the Computer Section in the Stella Obasanjo Children’s Home Abeokuta, with a call on the children of the orphanage not to be distracted with their present condition.

Inaugurating the Computer Section as part of activities marking his 61st birthday, Governor Abiodun, promised that he would always make himself available for the children of the orphanage.

While urging the children of the orphanage to be committed to the pursuance of their aspirations towards achieving their set goals in life, Governor Abiodun advised them to be determined and be good citizens of the country.

He promised that each of the children at the orphanage would be presented with befitting luxurious gifts from the state government to mark their respective birthdays.

The governor also donated a bus and presented sets of computers, food items and toys to the orphanage.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has urged Journalists in the country to avoid sensational reportage and spreading of fake news.

Governor Abiodun who made the plea while inaugurating the Olusegun Osoba Press Centre at Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, gave the assurance that his administration would continue to assist media professionals in discharging their duties faithfully.

While explaining that his administration named the Press Centre after the former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, Governor Abiodun pointed out that history would vindicate Chief Osoba for using journalism to promote national development in the country.

He also said that Chief Osoba’s exemplary contributions to the pen profession had helped him to attain a greater heights in politics and advised young media professionals to emulate the professionalism demonstrated by the former governor.

In a remark, Chief Olusegun Osoba commended Governor Abiodun for the gesture, and applauded the present administration in the state for embarking on developmental projects across the state.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has called on the Joint Taskforce on Anti-Smuggling, comprising of men of the Nigeria Army and Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, to be more civil in the discharge of their duties.

Governor Abiodun made the call at the Executive Chambers, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta while playing host to the General Officer Commanding 81 Division of the Nigeria Army, Major General Lawrence Fejokwu.

While pointing out that some innocent people of the state had lost their lives as a result of stray bullets from the joint patrol on smuggling, Governor Abiodun urged the taskforce to curb smuggling without taking the lives of innocent citizens.

The governor gave the assurance that his administration would continue to support Nigeria Army and provide conducive environment towards improving security architecture across the state.

Earlier, the General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Major General Lawrence Fejokwu appealed to the governor to give necessary information at his disposal to the Nigeria Army for optimum performance and effective service delivery.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has donated a sum of 10 million naira and two motorcycles to the state chapter of the Nigerian Legion ahead of the 2021 commemoration of Armed Forces and Remembrance Day. 

Governor Abiodun who announced this at the Emblem Appeal Launch Week of the Armed Forces and Remembrance Day held at the Executive Chambers, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta also promised to ensure the delivery of a patrol van to the retired officers before the end of the week.

While appealing to well-meaning individuals and corporate bodies to support the Nigeria Legion, Governor Abiodun said the gesture would help to ensure that heroes who fought for the territorial independence of the country got the regard they deserved.

The governor maintained that contributing to the welfare of the men of the Armed Forces and their dependents would further enhance the security and stability of the nation. 

Governor Abiodun who reiterated that the Nigerian Military would forever be honoured for its gallantry and loyal service to fatherland, commended the military for defending the territorial integrity of the country. 

Earlier, the Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Ogun State Chapter, Mr Oloyede Taofeek had commended the state government for its continued support to the Legion and pointed out that the Legion was able to achieve a lot as a result of the generous donation of the present administration in the state.

Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has called on the people of the state particularly sons and daughters of Egbaland to continue to work together towards building a viable future in the state.

Governor Abiodun made the call at a thanksgiving service to commemorate the 15th Coronation Anniversary of Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo held at Cathedral Church of Saint Peters, Ake, Abeokuta.

Governor Abiodun who urged sons and daughters of Egbaland to continue to contribute their quota for the development of Egbaland and the state in General, described Oba Gbadebo as a courageous monarch. 

He pointed out that the style of ruling of the paramount ruler had attracted progress, development and positive change in Egbaland.

While pointing out that his administration had completed some of the abandoned projects inherited from the last administration, Governor Abiodun gave the assurance that the state government would continue to embark on people-oriented projects across the state.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has been awarded 2020 best Governor in Education Sector in Nigeria by the National Parents Teachers Association, for his landmark achievements in the sector.

Presenting the award to the governor in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the President of the Association, Chief Adeola Ogunbanjo, acknowledged the innovative ideas of the Governor Abiodun-led administration which had repositioned the education sector in the state.

While calling for the inclusion of the association in the scheme of things in the state, the NPTA president described the Ogun DIGI-class as an innovation that kept students in the state busy during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

Responding, Governor Dapo Abiodun said his administration would continue to focus on technical and vocational education towards providing jobs for the unemployed youths in the state.

The governor said that arrangements had been concluded to rehabilitate secondary schools and technical colleges across the state towards providing a conducive learning environment, adding that plans were on to promote e-learning in public schools in the state.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of South-West, Mr Adeleye Oyebade, says the Nigeria Police will adopt new strategies towards restoring peace across the country.

Mr Oyebade who made this known at a peace consolidation meeting of stakeholders held at the Arcade Ground, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, expressed the readiness of the Nigeria Police to reform and restructure the police for effective service delivery.

He explained that the Nigeria Police was taking proactive steps towards ensuring total reform to meet international best practices.

While pointing out that community policing would address some of the challenges confronting the youths in the country, Mr Oyebade said as the lead agency in internal security, the Nigeria Police would continue to work with other security agencies towards protecting security of lives and property in the country.

Also speaking, the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun who attributed the spread of fake news as part of factors responsible for the uprising during the #EndSARS protest, advised Nigerians to be circumspect on what they share on social media.

While maintaining that the state would not be conducive for anyone with criminal intentions, Governor Abiodun said his administration would continue to encourage and support the police to be effective and professional towards promoting peace and security.

In a remark, the speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, OGHA, Prince Olakunle Oluomo urged the state governor to inaugurate members of Ogun State Sports Commission and energize Ogun State Sports funds towards engaging the youths in sporting activities.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has called for calm over the poor condition of the Federal Roads in Sango-Ota local government area of the State. 

Governor Abiodun made the plea on the heels of the growing agitations for the reconstruction of Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta, Ota-Idiroko and Sango-Joju roads in the industrial town by EndSARS protesters.

He said his Administration had already carried out palliative works on Ota-Idiroko Road, while plans were in top gear to do the same on the sango-Joju Road.

While urging the people of the area to exercise patience, Prince Abiodun said his administration would intensity efforts to take over the roads from the federal government and begin reconstruction of the roads.

He also urged the demonstrators to carry out their protest peacefully, and not to allow enemies of the state to hijack their non-violent demonstrations.

The Nigeria Army wants the collaboration of the Ogun State government towards improving the security architecture of the state. 

General Officer Commanding, GOC, 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major-General Godwin Umelo who made the call in Abeokuta during a courtesy visit to Governor Dapo Abiodun said he was in the state for a tour of Army formations under his command. 

Major General Umelo who maintained that all hands must be on deck to secure the society also encouraged people of the State to enlist in the military. 

Responding, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun commended officers and men of the Nigerian Army for their efforts towards preserving the Country’s corporate existence and supporting other law enforcement agencies to maintain peace in the State.

The Governor promised to create more awareness on the opportunities and motivate the people of the state to enlist in the Army.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has inaugurated the State Transport Master Plan Committee to reposition the transportation system for the overall development of the state.

Inaugurating the committee in Abeokuta, Governor Abiodun charged the members to justify the confidence reposed in them. 

Governor  Dapo Abiodun explained that the Transport Master Plan would help the state to develop the strategy for short, medium and long term traffic management measures as well as the infrastructure needed to facilitate safe movement of people.

The governor expressed optimism that the committee would come up with a more functional and integrated transport system which would stimulate development and make life more comfortable for people of the state.

While describing Ogun State as busiest National and international transit corridors in the country, Governor Abiodun said his administration was committed to develop transport sector as an integral part of the economy.

In a remark, chairman of the committee and Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Gbenga Dairo,  gave the assurance that the committee would live up to expectations and perform its duties diligently. 

Mr Dairo urged other members of the committee to brace up for the challenges ahead and work towards achieving the targeted goals of setting up the committee.

The ten – member committee has twelve weeks to complete its ssignment.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has described the death of former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi as the end of an era.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Kunle Somorin, Governor Abiodun said Senator Ajimobi died when his services were most needed and at a time his wisdom would have made critical difference in statecraft and political engineering. 

While explaining that Senator Ajimobi impacted on both the legislative and executive arms in a manner that history could not forget, Governor Abiodun said the deceased was a respected brand’s manager in the private sector. 

The Governor said Senator Ajimobi was a diligently resourceful Nigerian that would be sorely missed, noting that posterity would accord him due recognition for his legacies of service and forthrightness. 

He prayed God for the repose of his soul and to grant his family, associates and government of Oyo State the fortitude to bear the loss.

Ogun state NYSC has commenced construction of its Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, Village at the Orientation camp in Sagamu.

The state coordinator of the scheme, Dr. Belinda Faniyi who made this known at the closing ceremony of the Orientation camping for the 2019 Batch B Stream Two Corps members, said the village when completed would help the corps members acquire and develop skills that will add value the country.

The Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development village of the Ogun state NYSC, for the in camp training is situated on two hectares of land at Sagamu.

When completed, the SAED village will be equipped with fish ponds, plantain and vegetable plantations and the SAED centre for the twelve skills sets training currently available with the scheme.

Dr. Faniyi explained that the village would also be useful to the other host communities around Sagamu and also make the youths to be self-reliant after the service years.

The Ogun state NYSC coordinator who also pleaded with the state government to restore the payment of monthly allowance to corps members serving with the ministries and agencies urged the corps members to continue to be good ambassadors of the scheme.

Ogun State Police Command, Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bashir Makama in a remark also advised the corps members to be security-conscious during the service year noting that they should take their personal safety very important.

Ogun state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun represented by the permanent Secretary at the state ministry of Sports and Youths, Mr. Peter Fagboun while declaring the orientation camping close, urged the corps members to take their various postings in good faith and also advised their employers not to reject those posted to their establishments.

About one thousand eight hundred, 1,800, 2019 batch B Stream Two Corps members were deployed to all the twenty local government areas of Ogun state.

Elders’ Consultative Forum has expressed its commitment towards promoting development and sustainable peace in the state. 

To this end, the Forum, chaired by Prince Bola Ajibola has held a meeting with the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun at the Governor’s office Oke Mosan Abeokuta.

Speaking at the meeting, a prominent member of the Elders Consultative Forum, Olori Yetunde Gbadebo, explained that the body was non partisan advisory organ charged with responsibility of providing guidance and direction for improving the performance of government.

Olori Gbadebo who gave the assurance that the forum would support the present administration in its efforts to uplift the state, said the elders would continue to render selfless service to enhance peaceful coexistence across the state.

The Governor who also stressed the need for the elders to continue to recommend programmes and policies that would enhance sustainable development in the state, gave the assurance that his administration was ready to give the forum necessary support.
