The Acting General Manager, Gateway United Football Club of Ogun State, Mr Niyi Soleye has described the prompt release of funds by Governor Dapo Abiodun as a morale booster to the players and the technical team. 

Mr Soleye, who was speaking with Radio Nigeria in Abeokuta, said the governor had continued to pay salaries of the players as and when due.

The Gateway United acting general manager noted that the objective of taking the team to the next level required the concerted contributions of stakeholders in the state.

Meanwhile, Gateway United Football Club defeated Ibom Youth FC one nil in a mid-week fixture of the Nigeria National League played at the MKO International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.

Oluwole Johnson scored from the spot to give the Ogun State owned football team the deserved victory against the Ibom Youth.

In a post match interview, Coach Akeem Busari of Gateway United Football Club told journalists that his players would continue to improve game by game.

Gateway United will slug it out with One Rocket FC at the training pitch of Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Saturday in week seven fixture of the league.

Men of the Ogun State Police Command have have arrested two robbery suspects while operating at Sagamu interchange area of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the early hours of Saturday 27th February, 2021.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed the arrest in a statement gave the names of the suspects as Solomon Aghofure, a 30-year-old indigene of Delta State and Emmanuel Mathew, a 37- year- old indigene of Abia State.

Mr Oyeyemi said the suspects were arrested on the fateful day when the police patrol team of Sagamu Division were on routine patrol of the expressway at about 1.30 am.

He added that the suspects and their gang who had already positioned themselves at the interchange in readiness for attack on the commuters and motorists plying the road, opened fire on the passing patrol team led by the Divisional Police Officer, Sagamu, CSP Okiki Agunbiade.

Mr Oyeyemi explained that the team engaged them in shoot -out at the end of which one of them sustained gunshot injuries and was subsequently apprehended.

He said other members of the gang escaped into the bush abandoning their operational vehicle. 

The command spokesman added that the bush was thoroughly combed from where the other suspect was also arrested.

Mr Oyeyemi said a police corporal attached to the team also sustained gunshot injuries on his leg and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Edward Ajogun  has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Abeokuta for discreet investigation.

 He also directed that the fleeing members of the gang must be hunted for and brought to justice.

The Olu of Ilaro and Paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, has advocated inscription of Breeder’s name on cattle in the country in order to identify the owner in case of any destruction of farm by cattle.

Oba Olugbenle who stated this while receiving Ogun State government delegation in his palace in Ilaro, said the step because necessary towards finding lasting solution to farmers/herders crisis in the country.

The Royal Father also called on Ogun State government to urgently set up Amotekun Corps and give the traditional rulers opportunity to participate in the selection of its operatives.

Responding, The State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Afolabi Afuape, stressed the need for the people of the state to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement to the security agencies.

In a remark, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Alhaji Abdulwaheed Odusile who appealed to the people not to take law into their hands, urged them to allow security agencies and traditional rulers handle farmers/ herders crisis.

While calling for peaceful co-existence among the indigenes of the state and people from other ethnic groups, Alhaji Odusile announced that a stakeholders meeting would soon be held towards finding lasting solutions to Farmers/Herders crisis in the state.

Nigeria Police, Ogun State Command, has arrested an armed robbery suspect, Ibrahim Fatai for terrorizing Obada-Oko and allegedly dispossessing people of their belongings.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi said in Abeokuta that the suspects had violently dispossessed one Tijani Sodiq of one hundred and twenty thousand naira and two bags of rice along Araromi Street.

Mr Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested after the victim alerted the police in Obada-Oko area of Ogun State.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Mr Edward Ajogun had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.

Mr Oyeyemi pointed out that the commissioner of police also directed that efforts should be intensified to apprehend the remaining members of the gang towards putting an end to their nefarious activities in the area.

Ten suspected cult members have been arrested by operatives of Ogun State Police Command for using dangerous weapons to dispossess members of the public of their belongings.

The Police Public Relations officer, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi said in Abeokuta that the suspects were arrested after a victim, Olaojo Emmanuel reported at Ogijo Divisional Headquarters that his wife was attacked by the suspects.

Mr Abimbola said the victim alleged that items carted away by the suspects at gun point were valued at one hundred and thirty thousand naira.

He explained that the victim identified the suspects at Ita Oluwo area Ogijo, and alerted the police, which arrested the suspects.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Edward Ajogun has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution.

Two video petitions of registration denial in the ongoing All Progressive Congress membership and re-validation exercise in Ogun State have been received by the state committee.

Chairman of the Ogun State committee, Mr. Ademorin Kuye made this known at Itoko Ward Six, in Abeokuta South Local Government shortly before the former Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun re-validated his APC membership alongside his wife, Olufunsho.

Son of the Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, Olaokun says the purported video on social media that his father’s residence in Abeokuta was attacked was not true.

According to a astatement issued by the former Ogun state commissioner for Health Soyinka stated that it was true that cows did stray onto his land, but there was no attack or attempt to enter his father’s residence.

He stated that the video been spread was a disinformation which is dangerous.

Dr. Olaokun Soyinka concluded that the fake news could cause crisis adding confusion to the already tensed situation in the country.

Meanwhile, Ogun state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Edward Ajogun who visited the residence of the Nobel Laureate for on the spot assessment has also debunked the attack story.

Speaking at the residence with newsmen, Mr. Ajogun confirmed that three cow owned by a Yoruba herder did strayed into to Professor Soyinka’s compound and both the cow and the herder are currently in police custody.

It had been reported on the social media that Professor Wole Soyinka’s residence was attacked by herdsmen which had raised some nerves before the story was debunked.

Ogun State Government has warned the leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, and their operatives to stay away from all motor parks and garages in the state to avoid incurring the full wrath of the law.


In a statement  in Abeokuta, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Alhaji Waheed Odusile, said the warning became necessary in view of intelligence reports that the union was planning to resume collection of dues and revenues at motor parks against the existing decision of government banning the activities of the Union.


Alhaji Odusile said Security agencies had been directed to arrest and prosecute any operative of the NURTW or anyone that attempts to defy the decision of the government.


He explained that the present administration in the state was committed to maintaining  peace at the motor parks and would not allow anyone to undermine the prevailing peaceful environment. 


It will be recalled that following crisis in the leadership of the NURTW that threatened security of lives and property in the state, the House of Assembly in June 2020 passed a resolution suspending the activities of the union in the State.

Ogun State police command has cautioned against attacks on herdsmen’s’ settlements in Yewa part of the State and other areas.
According to a statement issued by the command spokesman, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi in Abeokuta, the police authority noted with sadness the attacks on settlements inhabited by Nigerian herdsmens of Fulani extraction in which some of them were born and brought up in the area.
The police spokesman stated that those being attacked qualified to be addressed as fellow Yorubas by the attackers as they speak Yoruba language with proverbs fluently and eloquently.
The Ogun state police command stated that it was unlawful and unconstitutional to deny fellow Nigerians the right to live in any part of the country and pursue their legitimate businesses, including cattle rearing.
The command also advises the herdsmen to avoid destructions of farmlands, which has been identified as the reason behind the unending disharmony and clashes.
The Ogun Police Command called on both farmers and herdsmen as well as the entire Yoruba and Fulani communities across the State to fish out criminals especially among visiting herdsmen.
Mr. Oyeyemi explained that all stakeholders have resolved to be decisively with the issue as culprits would be fished out to face the law.

Three thousand five hundred rural women in Ogun State have received the twenty thousand naira Federal Government grant.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, while flagging off the programme in Abeokuta explained that the women were carefully selected from different rural parts of the state to improve their wellbeing.

Three members of a cult group have been arrested by men of Ogun state police command for allegedly threatening to kill one Teslim Lateef if he refused to be initiated into their group.

The suspects, Olajide Shittu, Emmanuel Fidelis and Sunkanmi Ifelodun were arrested after victim reported the matter at Ajuwon police station.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi said in Abeokuta that the suspects were apprehended from their hideouts.

Mr Oyeyemi said the suspects confessed to being members of a cult group.

Meanwhile, The Commissioner of Police, Mr Edward Ajogun has ordered the transfer of the suspects to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation. 

Mr Ajogun advised the cult members to renounce their membership before the long arm of the law catches up with them.

Ogun State government has demolished a three – storey building in Abeokuta, after it failed a structural integrity test to ascertain its durability.

The distressed building had been razed as a result of power surge which occurred at a neighbouring shop in September last year.

Speaking with journalists after the exercise, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Tunji Odunlami said the electronic mall, located at Totoro area of the state capital was pulled down to forestall the loss of lives and property to building collapse.

The commissioner explained that test had shown that the building was not safe for use, hence the need for the demolition.

In an interview, the owner of the Electronic Mall, Mr Emmanuel Olujimi maintained that the state government had done a thorough job after the fire incident, before deciding on the demolition.

He encouraged residents to always observe safety precautions, to reduce the risk of fire outbreak.

The exercise was supervised by the Ogun State Building Production Management Authority, led by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Physical Planning, Mr Tunde Olugbewesa and the Acting General Manager of the agency, Aderonke Afolabi.

Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has announced that all Primary, Secondary schools and Technical Colleges in the state would resume on Monday 18th January 2021.

In a statement in Abeokuta, the state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology Professor Abayomi Arigbabu urged parents, guardians, teachers, schools administrators and other stakeholders to ensure full compliance with all COVID-19 protocols.

Professor Arigbabu said with the emergence of the second wave of COVID 19, social and physical distancing should be maintained while large gathering such as assembly should be discouraged.

He also said that Isolation room, health clinic and bay already established in the schools should be functional and regularly maintained towards curbing the spread of the pandemic.

Activities to celebrate the  2021 Armed Forces and Femembrance Day in Ogun State have commenced with Jumat Service where Muslim faithful gathered at Egba Central Mosque Kobiti Abeokuta to acknowledge the selfless contributions of the fallen heroes in keeping Nigeria together and in peace.

Governor Dapo Abiodun at the special Jumat service stated that the people of the state would continue to appreciate efforts of the fallen Heroes by supporting their families.

Police in Ogun State have arrested a former security guard of a church, Mela Samaila for allegedly breaking into the church auditorium and stealing the offering box with an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspect was arrested after the security men attached to the church alerted the policemen that the suspect had gained entrance into the church and made away with the church offering box.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi said that the DPO Ojodu Abiodun division, Mr Eyitayo Akinluwade mobilized his patrol team to the scene, combed the area and succeeded in arresting the suspect with the help of the security men of the church and the offering box was recovered from him.

Mr Oyeyemi said preliminary investigation showed that the suspect was once a security man in the church, but was relieved of his duty due to some untoward behavior.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Edward Ajogun has directed that the suspect be charged to court without delay as soon as investigation is concluded.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has signed the state’s 2021 Appropriation Bill into law 

Speaking after signing the document in Abeokuta, Governor Abiodun said the three hundred and thirty eight point six billion naira budget was realistic.

The governor, who promised to sustain the efforts towards enhancing the people’s wellbeing, said his administration would continue to pay attention to all ongoing projects across the state.

While pointing out that the budget was an important document for the developmental plans of his administration, the governor commended the state House of Assembly for the speedy passage of the Budget.

Governor Abiodun, who expressed concern over the rising prevalence of COVID-19 across the country, also used the occasion to encourage members of the state House of Assembly to embark on advocacy in their various constituencies towards curbing the spread of the virus. 

Earlier, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Prince  Olakunle Oluomo, who presented the clean copy of the Budget to the Governor Abiodun, said that the document had gone through necessary legislative procedures.

Operatives of Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspects for eloping with a motorcycle belonging to their employer’s company.
The suspects, Francis Obeya, twenty-six-year-old and twenty-one-year-old Emmanuel Abah, were arrested after the operatives received a call from a Lagos-based company that a dispatch rider with the company had eloped with clients goods and motorcycle.


The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Ppro, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi said the suspects were arrested around J4 area of Ogun state, pointing out that the suspects had been detained.


Mr Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police, Mr Edward Ajogun had ordered the transfer of the suspects to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and onward transfer to Lagos State Police Command which is the jurisdiction of the crime.

The people of Ikoga, Ado Odo, area of Ogun State has lauded the approval of the construction of Ikoga to Ado-Odo road as this will boost the socio-economic life of the people.

The Olofin Adimula of Ado-Odo, Oba Lateef Akanni, stated this while on a Thank You Visit to the state government and was received by the Deputy Governor, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele on behalf of Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Oba Akanni while praying for a successful tenure described the present administration as being responsive to the yearning of the people as Governor Abiodun was the first governor to take interest in the plight of the people of Ikoga and Ado-Odo by providing the necessary solution to the dearth of good roads in the area.

Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry, Mr Tunji Akinosi who also joined the delegation to appreciate the governor for not just the Ikoga road, but all other roads to be constructed across the state, noting that the approval came after careful scrutiny and contributions made by the deputy governor. 

Responding, the Deputy Governor, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele informed that there had been loads of agitations due to the deplorable state of roads particularly in the Ado-Odo axis, adding that this approval was government’s way of delivering on the promise made to the people. 

Mrs Salako-Oyedele thanked the delegation for finding time to show their appreciation, as this would encourage the government to do more, and called for patience as more infrastructural development would be carried out to bring more investors to the area.

Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has felicitated the world boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, for displaying “Ogun standard of excellence” in his World Boxing titles’ defence against his Bulgarian opponent, Kubrat Pulev in London on Saturday. 

Governor Abiodun said in a statement issued in Abeokuta by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Kunle Somorin that the Ogun State-born Joshua made Nigerians proud and restored confidence that country would overcome in spite of the nation’s challenges.

The governor, attributed the outcome to the manifestation of God’s love for the people of the state who prayed ceaselessly for AJ and organized rallies and viewing centres to watch the fight live across all the 20 local government areas.

Governor Abiodun who also lauded Joshua for his determination, hard work, resilience and focus, which he described as virtues engrained in the DNA of Ogun people, said the victory was a worthy Christmas gift from God to AJ and residents of Ogun State.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the present administration to continue to provide the necessary incentives to all ambitious young men and women to become World Champions not only in boxing but in all areas of sports.

The United States Government is taking steps to enroll 21,000 people for HIV treatment in Nigeria towards controlling the epidemic in the country.

The Chief Deputy Mission, United States Embassy, Mrs Kathleen Fitzgibbon stated this at the EXCOs Chamber, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta when she paid a courtesy visit to Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun. 

Mrs Fitzgibbon who pointed out that over 38, 000 people were living with HIV/AIDS in Ogun State, said the United States was taking steps to implement AIDS Prevention Initiative, APIN, in Nigeria towards fighting the scourge of the Virus in the country.

Responding, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun said his administration would place a minimum of 118 people living with HIV/AIDS on treatment every week to lower the rate of infections and encourage diagnosis and treatment.

The governor said government would continue to embark on sensitization, advocacy and other preventive measures to ensure that more people were saved from HIV/AIDS, adding that HIV Rapid Test Kits would be provided towards ensuring that people know their HIV statuses.

Another baby factory has been uncovered by men of the Ogun State Police Command at Mowe area of Obafemi Owode Local Government.

A statement by the command’s spokesman, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi explained that investigation had linked the baby factory to one Florence Ogbonna currently having a pending case on related issue.

He hinted that the discovery at Lagos Street, Mowe, was made possible following the complaints from residents of the area to the Mowe Divisional Police Headquarters on the suspicion of sale of babies.

Mr Oyeyemi said the residents of the area had complained of sighting ladies not carrying babies after months of carrying pregnancies in the area.

He explained that a man suspected to be working for the operator of the home was also arrested with four women and four children including a heavily pregnant and a nursing mother whose baby was suspected to have been sold.

In the meantime, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police has ordered manhunt for the said suspect Florence Ogbonna and the transfer of the case to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit for investigation.

The discovery would be the second within a week in Ogun State from the same local government area also linked to the same Florence Ogbonna.

Men of the Nigeria Police, Ogun State Command, have rescued four pregnant girls and four children from a suspected baby factory at Ofada-Mowe in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi while briefing newsmen on the rescue, said the baby factory was uncovered after one of the victims escaped and reported at the Mowe Police Station about an attempt to sell her baby by the suspected owner of the facility, one Florence Ogbonna who is currently on the run.

Mr. Oyeyemi said the police arrested the daughter of the facility owner and the man allegedly hired to impregnate the girls

He said the age of the girls ranges from thirteen years to twenty four years revealing that the girls are all from the southern states of the country. 

One of the victims, Chidera Onuoah said she was lured from Imo State to Ogun State by the owner of the facility, revealing that she escaped because she did not want to sell her baby.

She revealed that the facility owner sells a boy child for two hundred and fifty thousand naira while a girl child is sold for two hundred thousand naira.

People of Libegun and Aregbe Communities in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State have appealed to the state government for village extension as the construction work on low-cost housing unit continues in the area.

Some of the people including Mr Lateef Diyaolu and Prophetess Olaseni Fatoyinbo told Radio Nigeria during a peaceful protest to the Baale of the community, Chief John Akinsola that their houses and farmland had been destroyed without any payment of compensation.

Mr Diyaolu and Prophetess Fatoyinbo said the community was requesting dialogue with the state government as there was no prior notice on the commencement of work and the length of land acquired by the government for the project.

Also speaking, Mrs Ayoka Akinsanya and Mr Joseph Oyebola who said the proposed land project had destroyed all their farm crops, and would also eradicate the only polling booth and Public primary school in the community.

Responding, the Baale of the Community, Chief John Akinsola urged the people to remain calm in the face of different challenges confronting Libegun and Aregbe Villages and called on the state government to accede to the demands of Villagers.

Farmers and herders ìn Eggua have agreed to constitute a conflict resolution committee involving representatives of all the communities in the area to prevent invasion by unknown herders that annually commit atrocities.

The two parties made the resolution after a meeting with the state farmer’s herder’s conflicts resolution committee held at Tata in Yewa Both local government area of Ogun State.

The recent annual farmers and herders crisis according to speakers at the meeting was discovered to be the handiwork of the invading herders from outside the country.

The state conflicts resolution committee has the representatives of the government, farmers, herders, and security agencies in the state with by Mr. Segun Dasaolu and Seriki Fulani, Ogun state Mr. Kabiru Labaran as Co- Chairmen was initiated by the government to find a lasting solution to the problem.

Mr. Segun Dasaolu in remark informed those in attendance that night grazing will no longer be allowed including using the underage to lead the animals while no herder will be allowed to bear arms.

The heads of the two of the security agencies present at the meeting, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Eggua Division Mr. Olarewaju Kalejaiye and the leader of the military team attached to the committee, Captain Enoch Edward expressed their readiness to maintain peace in the area

The Community Conflict Resolution Committee in the area including the farmers, herders and security officials is expected to resolve destruction of farmlands and produce, prevent illegal entry into farms, curbs harassment and attacks as well as providing recommendation on the way forward.
