Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced plans to expand the Ogun Teach initiative by increasing the number of teacher interns from the current 4,000 to 6,000.

The move is part of his administration’s commitment to bridging the gap in the student-to-teacher ratio across the state.

The governor disclosed this during a meeting with the management teams of Teach for All and Teach For Nigeria, held at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

 Governor Abiodun also revealed that the monthly stipend for Ogun Teach interns had been raised to N80,000, reflecting the administration’s commitment to aligning with prevailing economic realities.

Highlighting his administration’s efforts to revitalize education, the governor noted that an emergency was declared in the sector upon assumption of office due to the challenges inherited. 

Key initiatives implemented include the Learners Identification Number, which facilitates the tracking of students in public schools, and the Education Revitalization Agenda, aimed at ensuring a seamless and efficient education system.

The governor further affirmed the state’s readiness to continue absorbing Teach For Nigeria fellows who meet the required standards. He expressed confidence in the state’s potential to serve as a model for the Teach For Nigeria program nationwide.

In her remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of Teach for Nigeria, Mrs. Molade Adeniyi, lauded the Ogun State Government for its unwavering support and collaborative approach.

She noted that the program’s mission aligns with the ISEYA mantra of the state government, which prioritizes infrastructure, social welfare, and youth development.

Mrs. Adeniyi emphasized that Teach for Nigeria recruits only highly skilled, motivated, and disciplined individuals who undergo a two-year fellowship designed to foster leadership and tackle inequities in the education sector.

The Ogun State Police Command has alerted the public over an unprecedented increase in reports of missing individuals across all age groups in the state.

In a statement in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Ms Omolola Odutola, regretted that only a small fraction of the missing individuals were located, while a significant number did not return home.

She explained that the command, as part of efforts to tackle the trend, had begun a public awareness of the need for people to prioritize their safety by maintaining a heightened sense of security.

The Ogun Police spokesperson noted that the Commissioner of Police, based on insights from rescued individuals, had appealed to parents to refrain from using commercial transportation services with unknown strangers for their children.

He also encouraged youths to activate digital communication and sharing features on their mobile devices while travelling, especially during moments of distress.

Ogun State Police Command has paraded 18 suspected criminals for various offences ranging from murder, kidnapping, human trafficking, and ritual killings among other crimes at different locations in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Lanre Ogunlowo while parading the suspects at the Police headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta attributed the success recorded to the provision of an Armed Personnel Carrier, and drone by Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun.

Mr Ogunlowo pointed out that among those paraded included 31-year-old Tolani Jeremiah, 20-year-old Akande Suru and 24-year-old Edwin Jatto who allegedly hacked the WhatsApp account belonging to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni of State CID, Eleweran and defrauded the victim’s family and friends of the sum of one million one hundred and fifteen thousand nairas under the false pretence that the victim needed urgent financial assistance. 

He noted that the command also arrested 45-year-old twins, Yemitan Taiwo and Yemitan Kehinde for allegedly killing and dismembering a female around the Lafenwa area of Abeokuta for ritual purposes.

The Police Commissioner solicited cooperation and support in the collective effort to keep Ogun State safe and peaceful.

Mr Ogunlowo appealed to the residents of the state to provide the police with timely information to aid their efforts in preventing and addressing criminal activities.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has expressed deep sadness over the demise of renowned businesswoman and socialite, Chief  Adebisi Edionseri, fondly known as “Cash Madam.” He described her passing as a significant loss to Ogun State and the nation.

Chief Edionseri, a trailblazing entrepreneur and influential figure, passed away on Sunday at the age of 89, leaving behind a legacy that spans decades. Her contributions to commerce and her impactful social presence have continued to inspire generations since the 1970s.

In a statement issued on Monday, Governor Abiodun commended Chief Edionseri’s enduring legacy, recognizing her as a pillar of inspiration and a role model. He lauded her remarkable achievements at a young age, highlighting her resilience, ambition, and the profound influence she had on the people of Ogun State and beyond.

Governor Abiodun further conveyed his heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and all who were touched by her exemplary life.

It was a roll call of who is who in Ogun State as the remains of the late notable businesswoman and socialite, Chief Adebisi Edionseri, widely known as Cash Madam were buried at her Ibara, Abeokuta, Government Reservation Area, GRA residence. 

The Janazah prayer and other Islamic rites performed for the deceased Iya Suna of Ogun State attracted an array of dignitaries, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his daughter, Senator Iyabo, former Nigerian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Isola, former Governor Ibikunle Amosun, National and State lawmakers as well as members of the judiciary, led by the state Chief Judge, Justice Olatokunbo Olopade. 

Addressing the gathering, Governor Dapo Abiodun who led key members of his cabinet to the event, recalled that his last discussion with the late socialite at a wedding ceremony 3 days before her demise was focused on preparations for her proposed 90th birthday in April, noting that he was devastated that Chief Edionseri did not live to witness her anniversary. 

Governor Abiodun urged the people to emulate the impactful life of the self-made philanthropist and successful entrepreneur while praying to God to grant the children and everyone affected by her death the fortitude to bear the loss. 

In a sermon after the burial rites, the Alfa Tafsir Egba Muslim Community, Alhaji Taofeek Amolegbe said death was inevitable and advised the faithful to dedicate their resources to the service of Allah and humanity for them to earn good rewards on earth and in the hereafter.

In a remark, a spokesman for the deceased’s family, Dr Bayo Adewole, who described the death of their mother as a great loss expressed gratitude to God and everyone for standing by them during the burial.

The Ogun State Head of Service, Mr Kehinde Onasanya, has encouraged civil servants to recommit to delivering efficient, innovative, and people-focused services that align with the current administration’s vision.

Mr Onasanya, who made the call in Abeokuta, noted that the future of Ogun State depended on the collective resolve to build upon the achievements of the past year while consolidating the foundations of progress laid under the present administration’s ‘Building Our Future Together’ Agenda initiative.

He acknowledged the various initiatives of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration during the past year aimed at improving the welfare of the workforce.

Mr Onasanya listed the intervention programmes to include the launch of the Public Sector Health Insurance Scheme, consistent payment of salaries and allowances as and when due, clearance of backlogs of deductions and timely payment of leave allowances, the implementation of the new minimum wage of Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira and the payment of the end-of-year jumbo bonus for workers and Pensioners in the state.

The Ogun state head of service noted that the programmes of the governor underscored his administration’s resolve to improve the financial stability of workers.

He also commended the invaluable contributions of the state’s teeming workforce driven by professionalism and integrity which he said had continued to uphold the pride and reputation of the Ogun State Public Service.

The Ogun State House of Assembly has organised a Christmas Carol of Nine Lessons with a call on the people to sustain the virtues of selflessness, love, and sacrifice symbolized by the birth of Jesus Christ.

In a sermon at the event held at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Pastor Femi Ogbontigba of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Ogun Province 15, urged Christians to remain steadfast in their faith, adding that Jesus would always bring hope and direction in every circumstance. 

In a remark, the Speaker of the House, Mr Oludaisi Elemide who read the Ninth Lesson from the book Hebrews chapter 1, verses 1 to 12 also encouraged those in leadership positions to prioritize the welfare of the people and always strive to serve selflessly. 

Mr Elemide urged the people to celebrate this season in moderation and endeavour to approach issues with calmness and understanding, promising that the lawmakers would work together towards enhancing the overall growth of the state. 

Also speaking, the Coordinator of the Assembly’s Christian Chapel, Mr. Olanrewaju Olonade said the Christmas season is a reminder to Christians not to live in fear but to celebrate the joy and hope that Jesus Christ brought to mankind. 

The event featured a rendition of various hymns and prayers, while notable lawmakers took their turns in taking the lessons, including the Deputy Speaker, Mrs Bolanle Ajayi as well as Mr Oluseun Adesanya, Mr Babatunde Tella, Mr Damilola Soneye and Mr Musefiu Lamidi.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has emphasized his administration’s commitment to involving youths in governance to help them harness their talents and prepare for future leadership roles.

Speaking at the first Annual Youth Summit and Empowerment Programme organized by the Ogun State Chapter of the City Boy Movement, held at the Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, the governor announced grants ranging from N500,000 to N1 million. Under the Ogun YES Empowerment and Entrepreneur Program, these grants aim to support business-oriented youths in the state.

Represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo, Governor Abiodun stated that youth engagement is crucial for societal progress. “We are committed to ensuring that the youth are not just participants but leaders in shaping decisions that affect their lives. Empowering our youth today guarantees a brighter tomorrow,” he said.

The governor also underscored the importance of the summit’s theme, “Renewed Hope Agenda: A Concrete Foundation for a Prosperous Nigeria,” describing it as a rallying cry for young innovators and leaders to build a better future. He praised the Abeokuta chapter of the City Boy Movement for its dedication to youth development and called on stakeholders to support initiatives that empower young people as future leaders.

Governor Abiodun reiterated that his administration’s “Building Our Future Together” mantra aligns with the federal government’s vision for a prosperous Nigeria.

In his opening remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Digital Communication and New Media, Mr. O’tega Ogra, highlighted the federal government’s initiatives to support young Nigerians. He noted that the National Student Loan Scheme, which has benefited over 300,000 students, reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to youth development. He also assured that the federal government is addressing the nation’s economic challenges and that small and medium-scale entrepreneurs would no longer pay taxes under the forthcoming Tax Reform Law.

Similarly, Mr. Kamorudeen Yusuf, Personal Assistant to the President on Special Duties, urged youths to embrace the ongoing national reforms and actively contribute to building a progressive Nigeria.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Citizenship and Leadership, Ms. Rinsola Abiola, commended Governor Abiodun’s youth-focused initiatives, noting that they align with President Tinubu’s goal of empowering young Nigerians to secure a brighter future.

The summit served as a platform to reinforce the vital role of youth in driving innovation, leadership, and sustainable development in Ogun State and across the nation.

A 45- year-old suspected ritualist, Taiwo Yemitan, has been arrested by the operatives of the Ogun State Police Command for alleged possession of a fresh human head and dismembered body parts of a female victim in the Lafenwa area of Abeokuta.

The State’s Police Public Relations Officer, Miss Omolola Odutola, who made this to Newsmen in Abeokuta, said the suspect was apprehended at his residence in Abeokuta.

Miss Odutola explained that the suspect, who admitted to committing the crime, confessed that he lured the deceased, identified as Darasimi, to his residence with the intent to kill her, emphasized that the suspect’s arrest was a collaborative effort of the police and local security operatives.

The Police spokesperson explained that the dismembered body of the victim had been taken to the General Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta morgue for post-mortem examination, adding that the suspect would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta for further investigation.

The delegation of the Main Organizing Committee for the National Sports Festival tagged “Gateway Games” has arrived in Abeokuta, the Ogun State to inspect the facilities to be used for the biennial event.

The delegates which comprise the directors of sports from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja as well as other stakeholders were in Abeokuta to confirm the readiness of Ogun state for the festival slated for January 2025.

The team which has the Secretary of the Main Organising Committee, MOC, of the 22nd NSF, Mrs Thecla Opara, on the ground inspected the ongoing construction of the swimming pool, Handball and Tennis courts, cricket Oval, and the main bowl of MKO Stadium Kuto Abeokuta.

Other facilities included, the Ikenne stadium, Babcock University, Sports Centre, Ijeja, Abeokuta, and Abeokuta Sports Club among others.

The team is expected to address Sports Journalists to clear the air on the possible rescheduling of the festival.

The Ogun State House of Assembly has called on the State Ministry of Environment to begin immediate enforcement of the laws against those displaying items for sale on road facilities, thereby causing gridlock in the State.

The lawmakers made at a session with the Management of the State Ministry of Environment led by the Commissioner, Mr. Ola Oresanya to analyze the 2025 budget proposals of the Ministry before members of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, chaired by Mr Lamidi Musefiu. 

Mr Musefiu, alongside his colleague in the House Committee on Environment, Mr Samsideen Lawal and other lawmakers particularly requested that street traders that encroached the road under the Kuto flyover bridge and other parts of the State needed to be warded off to allow the free flow of traffic and prevent avoidable road accidents.

They also commended the Ministry for its efforts at dredging waterways across the State which had helped in reducing flash floods in some parts of the  State.

Earlier in his presentation, the State Commissioner for Environment had proposed a total budget expenditure of  3.6 billion naira for the next fiscal year, out of which 2.9 billion would go for capital expenditure, while 754 million naira would take care of recurrent expenditure.

Other agencies that defended their budget proposals before the Assembly included the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the State  Ministry of Transportation, the State  Teaching Service Commission and the State Waste Management Authority. 

The management of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, D. S. ICT Polytechnic, Itori, Abraham Adesanya ICT Polytechnic, Ijebu- Igbo, Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade and Sikiru Adetona College of Science and Technology, Omu- Ijebu were also at the House of Assembly Complex to defend their budget proposals.

The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Mr Ukeyima Akutah, has commended Ogun State for its leadership in driving Nigeria’s industrial revolution.

Mr Akutah attributed the achievement to the state’s remarkable performance on the Ease of Doing Business Index.

Speaking during a visit to the Ogun State Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Monday, Akutah emphasized that the state’s strides align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policy agenda to modernize production systems, boost industrialization, and foster economic prosperity and job creation.

He highlighted the Ogun State Government’s significant investment in infrastructure development as a critical enabler of industrial growth, which complements the Federal Government’s efforts toward sustainable transformation and industrialization.

During the visit, Akutah led a delegation of council directors and senior officials to present an Outlined Certificate of Compliance to the Governor for the newly commissioned Inland Dry Port in Papalanto.

The project, flagged off by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, is expected to further enhance the state’s industrial capacity.

Akutah lauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for his unwavering commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment and for advancing critical infrastructure development to stimulate productive economic activities.

In response, Governor Abiodun expressed gratitude for the Nigerian Shippers’ Council’s support and the issuance of the Certificate of Compliance, noting its importance in the successful take-off of the Papalanto Inland Dry Port.

Describing the port as a pivotal project aimed at decongesting Lagos Ports and boosting industrial activities in Ogun State, the Governor highlighted its strategic role in enhancing the state’s status as Nigeria’s leading industrial hub.

He further explained that the adoption of a Multi-modal Transportation System by his administration would ensure the port’s efficiency and support the Federal Government’s industrialization agenda.

The Papalanto Inland Dry Port is set to reinforce Ogun State’s position as a critical player in Nigeria’s industrial growth and economic transformation.

The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has expressed the state’s readiness to partner with Brazilian food giant, José Sobrinho, with over seven decades of experience.

Sobrinho is the world’s largest producer of animal protein and the second-largest food company globally. The company specializes in processing beef, pork, lamb, and chicken, as well as producing convenience and value-added foods.

Governor Abiodun announced during a meeting at his Oke-Mosan office in Abeokuta with the Managing Director of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, NIPC, Aisha Rimi, and Sobrinho officials, including Fabio Maia, Director of International Operations, and Osorio Dal Bello, Head of Poultry and Swine.

He affirmed Ogun State’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for global companies like JBS, adding that the state’s strategic location and infrastructure make it the ideal partner for such ventures. “Sobrinho cannot find a better state in Nigeria to partner with,” Governor Abiodun said, emphasizing that Ogun State offers a dedicated livestock production zone and leads the country in agro-processing development.

The governor highlighted Ogun’s status as one of six agro-processing zones established by the Federal Government and noted that the state slaughters between 10,000 and 15,000 cattle daily to meet the protein demands of neighbouring Lagos State, with many of these cattle sourced locally.

Governor Abiodun also revealed plans for a ten-million-dollar partnership with a Moroccan firm focused on palm oil by-products and announced the imminent launch of a timber processing zone. Additionally, the state recently established its inland port to facilitate manufacturing and accelerate industrial growth.

Speaking during the visit, Fabio Maia lauded Ogun State’s business-friendly environment, citing the rapid industrial growth along the Abeokuta-Sagamu expressway. Maia disclosed JBS’s plans to invest two point five billion dollars in Nigeria, which includes building three chicken processing plants, two cattle plants, and one swine plant.

Aisha Rimi, the NIPC Managing Director, highlighted the visit as a follow-up to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent trip to Brazil, where a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, was signed with Sobrinho to enhance livestock production. She noted that the Sobrinho team is currently conducting feasibility studies and project development plans in Nigeria.

The collaboration underscores Ogun State’s growing reputation as a hub for agro-industrial investment and sets the stage for significant economic growth in the state’s agricultural and manufacturing sectors.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has expressed the readiness of his administration to make the Ojude Oba festival a global event.

The governor, who made the remark the 2024 Ojude Oba Festival held at Awujale Pavilion in Ijebu-Ode, noted that the festival had grown from a mere gathering of Ijebu people to an event that attract both national and global audience.

According to the governor, the festival which had become a tourist attraction symbolized and reflected the collective unity of Ijebu known for hard work, perseverance and industry.

 Prince Abiodun observed the event created opportunities for advancement and brought about socio-economic development not only to Ijebu axis, but also the state as a whole.

While thanking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for showing interest in expanding the festival, especially to include it in the UNESCO’s world cultural heritage, governor Abiodun emphasised that his administration was committed to providing the conducive environment in the state for business to thrive.

The Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Honourable Hannatu Musa Musa-Musawa, who was represented by Mr. Ben Ugo, said her ministry was working towards promoting and preserving cultural heritage of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration with the creation of economic expansion to the tune of 100 billion dollars

He acknowledged the cultural diversity of Nigerians, noting that the federal government is working towards making the country a cultural hub in year 2030.

Crime

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Femi Onayemi, for defiling a 13-year-old girl (name withheld) in the Obada-Oko area of the state.

The suspect had earlier been hired by the girl’s parents to tutor her at their home in the community in 2023.

Parents of the victim were shocked when the suspect scaled the fence of their home to gain access to the 13-year-old’s room and commit the heinous crime.

The spokesperson for the state command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident and stated that Onayemi had been arrested.

She said, “The parents of the minor approached our division at Obada Oko on June 12, 2024, to report the incident. The suspect was employed in 2023 to help the survivor with her studies at home.

“However, on June 9, 2024, the suspect was caught committing the crime after he had jumped over the fence of the house. Our men swung into action immediately after the matter was reported.

“The suspect was also believed to be attending the same church that the survivor attends every Sunday. He confessed to the crime after we arrested him.”

Two people have been reportedly dead while three persons sustained varying degrees of injuries in a fatal crash that occurred on Ososa, Sagamu- Ijebu Ode route.

The accident which occurred on Sunday, 16th June, 2024 at 28 minutes past 11 in the morning involved a 

Ash Howo Truck with no registration number and Blue Toyota Camry Car marked  APP478FS.

The Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ogun sector command, Mrs Florence Okpe who confirmed the crash in Abeokuta the injured victims had been taken to General Hospital, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State as well as the corpses.

She attributed the suspected causes of the crash to speed and loss of control, which led to the rear collision of the two vehicles.

Mrs Okpe noted that the Sector Commander,  Mr Anthony Uga, sympathized with the family of the crash victims and advised motorists to desist from exceeding peeding and give total attention to driving.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has extended the sales of subsidized rice to pensioners in the state.

This was made known by the Head of Service (HoS), Mr. Kehinde Onasanya Onasanya, while monitoring the sales of discounted rice to members of the Local Government Pensioners Association of Nigeria (LOGPAN), at its secretariat in Ita Oshin, Abeokuta, on Monday.

He said that since the economic situation in the country cut across all ages, the government decided to extend the sales of the rice at discounted rates to the local government pensioners. 

While urging the pensioners to take advantage of the gesture, Onasanya said the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration was pensioners friendly and seriously concerned about their welfare.

He said that bringing the rice to the doorsteps of the pensioners was to eliminate any hardship they may likely face in purchasing the commodity. 

He urged them to take advantage of the exercise and buy according to their levels while in service.

State Chairman of LOGPAN, Pastor Benedict Ademoye described the gesture of Governor Abiodun as unprecedented, adding that it would go a long way to alleviate the hardship of the pensioners at this period of high cost of food items.

Another beneficiary, Mrs. Bernice Lawal, who is the Chairman of Retired Primary School Teachers in the state, said this was the first time such a gesture would be extended to her members since she retired from active service in 2009.

All the retirees at the sales point pledged their loyalty and support to the government and prayed for the success of the administration.

The quest of Ogun State to be an oil producing state will soon materialize as the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, NNPCL, sets to begin oil and gas exploration in the Gateway State.

Stakeholders in the oil industry, including the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri,  Managing Director, SHELL Petroleum Development Company Ltd, Mr. Osagie Okubor; Chief Executive, Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, Engr. Gbenga Komolafe and the Group Chief Executive Officer, NNPC Ltd, Mr Mele Kyari, stormed Ogun State on Friday on plans by the Federal Government to start oil exploration in the state.

They were received by Governor Dapo Abiodun and his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele.

Hon. Lokpobiri, who spoke at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta said Ogun State had always been part of the Dahomey Basin with prospect of having huge deposit of hyrdro-carbon.

Hon. Lokpobiri who added that oil and gas remain the quickest way to Nigeria’s economic prosperity, said his team is in the State in continuation of the campaign for exploration activities.

He said the visit was also to demonstrate the seriousness and commitment of the federal government to shore up its revenue through the oil and gas sector.

The Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited,(NNPCL) Mr. Mele kyari, while speaking, said Ogun State is blessed to be in the Dahomey Basin corridor with expected high deposit of oil, assuring that the corporation is coming back in ernest to commence exploration activities, even as he expressed the hope that oil would be found in commercial quantity.

Responding, Governor Abiodun said Ogun State is part of the OPLs 302,303 306, 307, saying the acreages present unique opportunities for the qualification as a Frontier Exploration State as defined in the PIA section 9.

He observed that the history and studies over the years allow any investment under the frontier exploration basin funding to not only realize the oil and gas potentials, but also acquire data that would aid Bitumen exploration and exploitation in Nigeria. 

The country, Abiodun maintained holds the second largest resolves in the world of 42,b tons, adding that a lot of studies have shown the potential of the basins, which brings Ogun State to the fore and projecting it towards becoming a beneficiary to achieve commercial success and derive economic benefits from exploration and production within a minimum time schedule.

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Ogun State Council has described the recent release of two billion naira to its members by Governor Dapo Abiodun as evidence of his commitment to further reducing the backlog of accrued gratuities to pensioners in the state.

In a joint statement by the Chairman, Comrade Wasiu Oloyede and the Union’s Secretary, Dr Bola Lawal, the older citizens applauded the gesture, noting that the government had been sincere and humane to pensioners.

They acknowledged the regular and prompt payment of monthly pensions, the extension of the payment of 10,000 fuel subsidy palliatives by 9 months which ended in March 2024, as well as the inclusion of retirees among the beneficiaries of the government’s subsidized – rice sales outlet.

They also appealed to the State government to release the much awaited Consequential Increase in Pensions before the implementation of the proposed new wage increase in a bid to uplift the vulnerable and very aged few getting paltry earnings.

The Pensioners body expressed the hope that its members’ aspirations would be favourably attended to in no distant time, and promised their continued support to the present administration in the State.

As the nation witnessed the first anniversary of the current administration in the country, the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has given pass mark to the administration of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu for laudable achievement recorded.

The governor, therefore, promised that his administration would continue to key in into the Federal Government’s vision towards the provision of amenities that will make the state stand out among the comity of states in the country 

Governor Abiodun made the remark this at the commissioning of 8 Kilometres Sagamu Iperu-Remo-Ode Road in Ikenne Local Government to commemorate his first year anniversary of his second term in office

The governor, while inaugurating the road, explained that the reconstruction of Isiun-Ogeere- Illishan Road would soon commence due to its importance to the state’s economy as it lead to the state’s gateway agro cargo International airport 

He pointed out that the reason behind the reconstruction of the sagamu-iperu-remo-ode Road was to serve as an alternative Road to Lagos-ibadan expressway noting that the road has played a major role in the history of the road as it links ikorodu in lagos state to the gateway state

Commending the Alaperu of Iperu-Remo, oba idowu basibo and the people of the town for their support,  the governor emphasised that the inauguration of the road was the celebration of success and achievement recorded by the current administration in the state

In a separate remark, the chairman of Ogun State Traditional Council who also double as the Akarigbo and paramount ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi and Alaperu of Iperu-Remo,  Oba Idowu Basibo, thanked Governor Abiodun for the road reconstruction, which they said would attract more development into the ancient town

Meanwhile, people from all walks of life the week converged on the country home of the number one citizen of the gateway state, prince dapo Abiodun at Iperu-Remo in Ikenne Local Government to celebrate his 64th birthday and fifth years anniversary in office 

Dignitaries at the occasion included his immediate family led by the first lady Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, members of the national assembly, state assembly, members of the state executive led by the secretary to the state government,  Mr tokunbo talabi, traditional rulers and  government functionaries

Speaking on behalf of her colleagues at the 10th national assembly, deputy chief whip at the House of Representatives, mrs Adewunmi Onanuga thanked the governor for his sterling leadership since assumption of office in the state noted that the governor within the five years has changed the narrative of the state

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of cabinet and special services, office of the governor, alhaji olanrewaju saka, described the governor as an epitome of success whose tenure has engendered progress, unity and peace to the state 

Congratulating the governor on his 64th birthday, Alhaji Saka prayed to God to bless the governor with more prosperous years on earth with sound health

The event was heralded with the presentation of gifts to governor dapo Abiodun in commemoration of his birthday

2,822 entrepreneurs in Ogun State have benefited from the second phase of the 1billion Naira Operational Grant for Micro and Small Scale Enterprises.

The programme is part of measures to cushion the effect of Covid-19 on people of the State.

The first disbursement was done in 2023, during which 1,000 entrepreneurs in micro enterprises received N100, 000 each, while those in the small scale categories received N350,000 each. 

Speaking during the Symbolic Cheques presentations to beneficiaries, Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by his Deputy, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele, said small scale enterprises remained crucial in the process of promoting entrepreneurship, fostering innovation, and driving inclusive economic growth.

Governor Abiodun explained that beneficiaries were carefully identified as genuine entrepreneurs nominated by key stakeholders in the society.

While appreciating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for initiating the scheme, the Governor promised that the disbursement would be extended beyond initial June 2024 closing date, urging beneficiaries to use the grants wisely and responsibly.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Finance, Mr Dapo Okubadejo had pointed out that the disbursement, was aimed at mitigating the effect of COVID-19 pandemic and providing support for small and medium scale business owners in the state.

He implored them to make judicious use of the money, to serve as social as protection for the poor and vulnerable members of the society while supporting their ventures, especially agricultural businesses. 

Also,the Speaker ,Ogun State House of Assembly, Mr Oludaisi Elemide implored beneficiaries not to see the grant as national cake but to use it for the purpose it was meant for.

Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on the State Government through the relevant agencies to step up measures towards curbing the menace of fake and expired drugs.

The passage of the resolution followed a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Mr Yusuf Sheriff, seconded by Mr Olakunle Sobukanla and supported by the Whole House.

Opening debate on the motion, the sponsor and Chairman, House Committee on Health, representing Yewa North 2 State Constituency, Mr Wahab Haruna, had decried the high rate of fake and expired drugs in circulation.

Mr Haruna appealed that the State Ministry of Health and other professionals bodies in the sector across the state to collaborate to combat the menace, while ensuring appropriate sanctions and fines were put in place to serve as deterrent to future perpetrators.

Also supporting the resolution, Mr Babatunde Tella, Mr Oluseun Adesanya and Adegoke Adeyanju said the effect of counterfeit drugs on the people was alarming and called for the sustenance of the state Government’s proactive measures to centralize drug testing and distribution through the a central medicine store to all public health facilities in the state.

Responding, the Speaker, Mr Oludaisi Elemide blamed the problem on the selfish desire for inappropriate maximization of profit by those he described as unscrupulous elements in the sector, pointing out that the grave consequences of fake drug made some Asian nations resorted to subjecting the peddlers to capital punishment.

He implored the various enforcement and regulatory agencies to step up measures towards checkmating the sales and distribution of fake and expires drugs nationwide.

Eight hundred and forty-five pilgrims of the first and second batches from Ogun State, led by officials of Ogun State Muslim intending Pilgrims Welfare Board, have arrived Medina, Saudi Arabia, to perform the holy pilgrimage.  

Confirming the arrival of the pilgrims to journalists in Medina, the Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Dauda Salau, said the third batch of intending pilgrims were expected to land before the end of the week, expressing gratitude to Allah for a safe journey.

Alhaji Salau attributed the success of the state’s Hajj operations so far to Governor Dapo Abiodun’s support, promising that the intending pilgrims would give a good account of themselves throughout the exercise.

He advised the pilgrims to keep in mind and utilised the information acquired from the sensitisation programmes organised for them prior to their departure, imploring them to follow the rules and obey the officials throughout their stay.

Reacting, one of the intending pilgrims, Alhaji Tijani Fadilullai, said the journey from the Hajj Camp in Lagos to Medina was flawless, commending the state officials for their diligence.

Over three hundred shanties and structures placed  on setbacks and fences of  Public Schools in Abeokuta the Ogun State capital have been demolished as the state government commenced a Safer School Initiative.

The demolition took place in Schools  including St John’s Primary School,Kuto, Nawair-Den Primary School,Oke -Ijeun, Nawair-Den Secondary School,Oke-Ijeun, Baptist Primary School, Idi-Aba all in Abeokuta.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Alhaji Farook Akintunde  while speaking with journalists said the exercise was to ensure safety for  students when in schools as those shanties and makeshift structures are hideout for criminals.

Alhaji Akintunde explained that the shanties sometimes serves as hideout for  criminals,stressing that the state government was determined not to have any kidnapping occurrence in its schools.

The  Senior Special Assistant also  warned all  Headteacher and Principals against allocating government setbacks near the wall of their schools , saying it contradict environmental laws.

Meanwhile, the state Taskforce had demolished all shanties and makeshift structures at Panseke Market.

Towards ensuring the growth and development of budding talents in their formative years, Ogun State government has reiterated its commitment to sports development, especially for the youth in the state.

Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, made this known at the 2nd Edition of the Prince Dapo Abiodun Closed Table Tennis Championship for secondary schools in Ogun State, at Ijeja Stadium, Abeokuta.

Mr. Talabi, who noted that the game of Table Tennis promotes mental alertness, smartness and improving reflexes, encouraged parents of talented children in secondary schools to nurture and support their wards with the right incentives, to help them to stardom.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Sports Development, Mr Wasiu Isiaka had appreciated Governor Dapo Abiodun for the various initiatives in the sector which he noted would ultimately reposition sports and sporting activities in the State.

Mr Isiaka pointed out that school sports would continue to play a pivotal role in the nurturing of genuine budding talents, thereby curbing social vices in secondary schools, advising participants not to relent, but strive harder on their way to the global stage.
