The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, revealed that he would be offering serious prayers for the Bola Tinubu-led administration during his time of seclusion at the forthcoming Olojo festival.

The monarch also said he would pray for a turnaround of the current hardship experienced in the country as occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy and other factors.

Ooni made the call while speaking with newsmen in his palace on Sunday in preparation for seclusion as part of the Olojo rites.

He said, “I will use the medium to pray for African Unity and movement, for actualisation of Pan Africanism. We therefore as stakeholders must play our roles to ensure that Africa as a continent speaks in unity,” he stated.

Ooni emphasised that Nigeria needs spiritual intervention at this time of economic downturn, adding that he would utilise this period to pray for a way out of seclusion.

I will pray for the unity of Africa. Things are very hard. We all know the economic challenges that people are facing.

“This is the time we need spiritual and divine intervention. My annual Olojo seclusion. This is how my ancestors have been doing it.

”We should pray very well because things are very hard. We all know the state of the economy. It is a sensitive thing that needs prayer which should not go out of hand.

“My prayer also would be to pray for divine intervention for the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to turn things right because expectation of people is so high”, the Ooni stated.

Also, he called on stakeholders in Africa to prioritise the unity of the African continent, saying pan-Africanism is non-negotiable.

He said, “Pan African movement is not negotiable as this is a way out for us in Africa, for the unity of the African continent as this must be paramount to all of us”.

The royal father explained that everywhere is so tense now and people are not finding life easy, but he would use the seclusion period to pray for the leaders.

Ooni said Olojo is an annual festival, stressing that there’s nothing he asked for, for 8 years which could not be answered. “I talked to my creator and my ancestors and they answered me speedily.”

Oba Ogunwusi called for support for the president to move the nation forward.

Olojo festival is the biggest festival on the culture calendar of Ile-Ife.

The Olojo (controller of time-Death) festival is celebrated in remembrance of Ogun, the god of iron who is believed to be the first son of Oduduwa as well as the creation of the world according to Yoruba mythology. The festival takes place annually in October and involves several elaborate ritual prayers led by the Ooni.

It is marked by a carnival-like atmosphere and is attended by people of all ages.

Olojo has remained popular in Ile-Ife because it is the only day in the year believed to be specially blessed by Olodumare (the Creator of the Universe)

As part of measures to ensure the sustainability of human society, the wife of Ooni of Ife, Olori Aderonke Ogunwusi has said knowledge of climate change and sustainable development must be inculcated in young ones so as to help rid the environment of harmful substances and reduce flooding and other environment-related disasters.

Olori Ogunwusi stated this in Osogbo while addressing journalists at the commencement of the 7th edition of Queen Moremi Ajasoro (QMA) Initiative promoted by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Eniitan Ogunwusi.

She explained that women, particularly young girls, were critical stakeholders to achieve a sustainable environment, hence the need for their regular education on the issues of climate change and other harmful conduct to the environment.

“A lot of people don’t know that the plastic baskets and bottles used, when not reused, it takes about a thousand or million years for it to go back into the earth. But the ones made with natural fibre and other natural things are easily absorbed by the earth. God created this planet, we have to make sure we support His creation.”

“We see so many things like flooding, global climate change, if we don’t take care of the planet, the planet will not take care of us as well and it will not be sustainable for generations to come.”

According to the wife of the monarch, the Queen Moremi Ajasoro Initiative named after the legendary Queen Moremi aims to celebrate women in leadership, support the rights of the girl-child and encourage female education in Nigeria and Africa.

She stated that this year’s edition includes an entrepreneurship programme; the “Say no to trafficking of young women’” programme; a Mentorship programme; a Grant for small-scale businesses programme; also, and a leadership and cultural pageant.

“The QMA leadership and cultural pageant is totally different, while we gather beautiful ladies, we look at their intelligence. They have to possess leadership skills. Every year, we have hundreds of women who register to participate in this cultural pageant; we do auditions and select the best.”

“This year, we selected the best 27. They came into camp on the 27th of November, 2022 and will remain in camp until the 4th of December, 2022. Our grand finale is on the 3rd of December, 2022. While in camp, they will be taught and mentored on several aspects, especially leadership, culture and sustainability,” her majesty said.

In a remark, a United Nations, UN, Ambassador, Ambassador Yemi Olapeju who is tutoring the ladies on sustainability, lauded Ooni Adeyeye Ogunwusi and Olori Aderonke for the initiative saying the UN will look into supporting the rich programme.

“Lately, the world has been having problems with climate change and this awareness is not well spread in Nigeria I think that as a Nigerian, I should be able to come home and spread this awareness on climate change and this awareness begins from the grassroots, not the government.”

“I am highly impressed with what the Ooni of Ife Oba Ogunwusi and Queen Aderonke Ogunwusi are doing. Her Majesty equally promotes Adire fashion made with indigenous materials. I witnessed this yesterday and we are looking at how the United Nations will support this beautiful initiative,” Ambassador Olapeju said.

When contacted, the Ooni’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Moses Olafare told newsmen that “this is not the first time such rumours had been peddled.

Queen Silekunola Naomi has announced her divorce from the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja II.

She broke the news via a post on her Instagram handle on Thursday. Oni got married to Queen Naomi in 2018, about a year after separating from Edo-born Zaynab-Otiti Obanor.

The post reads:

“I bless the Lord almighty for His faithfulness in the last 3 years of my marriage. In life’s journey, it isn’t how far. Still, how well, indeed though Satan should buffet if trials should come, I have this blessed assurance controlling all situations and saying to me it is well with my soul. Certainly, it is well. I made my journey into the ancient throne of Ife with faith in my heart and love for the keeper of it.

“Few impressions I would love to correct. If anyone knows otherwise, they are free to come up with facts. Let it be known that this decision to move on did not come because his majesty is married to another queen. As many would love to assume, throughout our life as a couple, I was the only married wife to him. There were side attractions, but it was never an issue.

“I never approached him with any revelation of any sort, as many believed he contacted me first and made his proposal known several months later.

“The marriage was not an arranged one, as many have misconstrued. I never knew the prophetess said to have introduced me to him. Instead, he introduced her to me after I agreed to marry him. I was only being polite out of respect for him.

“I have never been pregnant all my life before Tadenikawo; my son is my first ever pregnancy with medical reports to back it up

“The girl who is said to be my daughter is my niece.

“I did my best to endure and make it work; many times, I smiled through the struggle, but I have finally realised I had just one assignment, my son, and when God is done, He is done. He chose Saul to be king, and when He was done, He told the prophet Samuel I have moved on. Religion was never an issue between us; please refer to my interview on News Central TV. Instead, His Majesty has a picture he would love the world to see and perceive him as and another one which is his true self.

“Today I announce the beginning of a new dawn and the close of a chapter. Today, I am a mother to God’s unique gift. I am no longer a slave to my thoughts of perfection. I, at this moment, announce that I shall no longer be referred to as wife to the Ooni of Ife or as Queen of Ile-Ife but as the Queen of the people and mother of my adorable Prince to be cont.”
