Governor Abiodun made this known while receiving the Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abubakar Mustapha, alongside senior naval officers, during a courtesy visit to his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The governor also announced that President Tinubu has approved the immediate take-off of the Olokola Deep Seaport Project in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area, ending years of delay surrounding the multibillion-dollar port initiative.

According to Governor Abiodun, both projects are of special interest to the President, noting that the Olokola Deep Seaport would help decongest Lagos ports, while oil drilling at Tongeji Island would drive economic inclusion and directly empower coastal communities.

He added that the proposed seaport would be known as the Blue Marine Economic Zone, reflecting its strategic coastal position and vast commercial potential, adding that President Tinubu has directed that construction be significantly advanced between now and next year.

Governor Abiodun commended the Nigerian Navy for establishing a Forward Operations Base at Tongeji Island, saying the move would strengthen border security, prevent infiltration from the Benin Republic, and safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

He added that the state government is working to provide basic amenities for residents of the island to improve their living conditions and support emerging economic activities.

The governor also praised the Nigerian Navy for its role in sustaining peace and security in Ogun State, describing Rear Admiral Mustapha as a seasoned officer capable of enhancing security in the state.

Earlier, Rear Admiral Mustapha described Ogun State as strategic to Nigeria’s national security, revealing that the naval outpost at Tongeji Island would be upgraded due to the area’s oil potential.

He said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Nigerian Navy and the Ogun State Government, particularly in securing the nation’s border and preventing criminal activities.

“Our farmers are the backbone of the food supply chain. To unlock their potential and boost food security, we must prioritize constructing roads that link them to markets.” Governor Abiodun remarked

He further acknowledged that the Ilobi and Oke-Erinja areas are vital agricultural hubs within the state and affirmed that the road’s construction would directly benefit local farmers. Addressing concerns about the road’s completion, the governor reassured the community that the project would extend to Ilobi, reflecting his commitment to their development.

Governor Abiodun also announced that the construction of the Sango-Ijoko-Akute road would be awarded later in the week. He emphasized that completing this 17-kilometer arterial road would complement ongoing efforts on roads like Akute-Ajuwon, Alagbole-Ajuwon, Giwa-Oke-Aro, and Alagbole-Akute, which are crucial for connectivity in the region.

“We have not overlooked our border communities,” the governor added. “The Sango-Ijoko-Akute road will link Ogun West to Ogun Central and Lagos, providing significant relief to commuters and enhancing regional connectivity.”

Additionally, the governor shared updates on other major infrastructure projects, including the reconstruction of the Ota-Ifo-Abeokuta road, which will benefit Ogun West, and the ongoing Agbara-Atan-Lusada road project. He also revealed that he would soon inspect the Inter-Change-Papalanto-Obelle road, which is being developed with tax credits alongside Alhaji Aliko Dangote.

Governor Abiodun however expressed his appreciation to the Olu of Ilaro, the Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas, and other community leaders for their support in making the road project a success. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to delivering on its promises to the people of Ogun State.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr Ade Akinsanya, highlighted that the newly reconstructed Oke-Erinja-Ilobi road would significantly improve accessibility to the Nigeria Police Training College and promote the overall development of the community and state. He noted that the road had previously been in a state of disrepair, and its reconstruction would provide much-needed relief to the local population.

The Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, also praised Governor Abiodun for his continued focus on the development of Ogun West. The monarch urged the governor to extend the road from Erinja to Ilobi, a move that would further stimulate growth in the region.

Former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed worry over what he described as the depleting ranks of the nation’s patriotic leaders, especially at this crucial time in the country’s history when their wise counsel and rich experience are greatly needed.

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo made this known in his condolence message on the death of an elder statesman Edwin Clark, barely four days after the death of another Patriot, Pa Ayo Adebanjo.

In a message made available to newsmen by his special assistant on media, Mr Kehinde Akinyemi, the former president noted that the late elder statesman has, over the years, displayed profound love for his people and remained one of the more articulate and vocal champions of improved conditions for the country’s oil-bearing states.

Chief Obasanjo stressed that the former Federal Commissioner was a great brother and friend, a frontline lawyer, a seasoned economist, a tested administrator, an accomplished politician and a revered community leader.

He prayed to God to grant the soul of late Chief Clark a peaceful rest and grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Southern Governors Forum, SGF, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has described the passing of Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, leader, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, as a profound loss to Nigeria and an end of a monumental chapter in the nation’s history.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Abiodun paid tribute to the late elder statesman, acknowledging his tireless advocacy for the Niger Delta region and his unwavering commitment to justice and equity.

He described Chief Clark, a former Federal Commissioner for Information, as one of the most influential leaders to emerge from the South-South geopolitical zone and a formidable voice against decades of marginalization and exploitation of the Niger Delta people.

The passing of Pa Edwin Kiagbodo Clark at the age of 97 marks a watershed moment in Nigerian history. As a man who lived through the struggles and triumphs of the colonial, independence, and post-independence eras, Chief Clark was a living embodiment of our national journey. For nearly seven decades, he served with distinction and remained one of Nigeria’s most courageous and progressive voices,” Abiodun stated.

The governor highlighted Clark’s early contributions to Nigeria’s political landscape, recalling his election as a councillor for Bomadi in 1953, his involvement with the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons, NCNC, and his active role in the West African Students’ Union while studying at Holborn College, London.

“However, this freedom does not extend to the formation of unauthorized assemblies or institutions. No individual or group is legally permitted to constitute a court or present themselves to the public as a court without legal backing. Those behind that notice have no legal backing. They cannot set up a court or administer justice by fiat or public notice.

“The Ogun State Government hereby directs that all persons involved in the creation or operation of this unauthorized court must immediately cease all related activities and disband the illegal entity and all its apparatus.

“The Ogun State Government also advises members of the public to disregard any summons, documents, or persons associated with the illegal Sharia Court. Such occurrences should be promptly reported to the state.
