The Vicar in charge of Anglican Church of the Ascension, Akobo Archdeaconry, Ibadan, Venerable Dr. Tobi Adeyẹoluwa has advised the Yoruba Nation Agitator Suday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho to be wary of his conducts when he returns to Nigeria.

The Cleric who likened the Sunday Igboho to the biblical Moses, enjoined the Yoruba Nation agitator not to engage in any protest or fight whenever he returns but allow God to champion his course.

Speaking with our correspondent in Ibadan, Venerable Dr. Adeyẹoluwa explained that the cries of Sunday Igboho was as a result of a system that was not working, and the people felt that government was giving preferential treatment to a particular tribe over the other which gave rise to the activities of the Igboho born agitator.

“There are many Sunday Igboho in the country, people who are dissatisfied, people who are oppressed, people who feel cheated and as long as government is able to meet the needs of all the tribes am sure voices like that will not find expression “

The Veterinary Doctor turned Cleric, called on government not to be partial in his dealings by ensuring that anyone who breaks the law are brought to justice so that there would not be any need for agitation from any quarter.

Also, Justice Oladiran Akintola extended the interim order restraining the attorney General of the Federation and DSS from arresting, molesting and freezing Sunday Igboho’s bank account.

Counsel to the Attorney General of Federation, Simeon Enoch, at the resumption of the case, asked the court to vacate the interim order earlier granted Sunday Igboho on August 4th 2021.

Mr. Enoch argued that the interim order should not be perpetual and that it should not last more than seven days.

In addition, Enoch told the court that they had just been served with the counter motion by the applicant and that in law, they had 7 days within which to respond to the counter motion.

At this juncture, Chief Yomi Alliyu , SAN, objected to Mr. Enoch’s claim, insisting that the defendant was served with the counter motion on August 25 contrary to the claim by Enoch.

Counsel to the DSS, T. A Nurudeen in his reaction said the DSS DG and the Director were critical part of the case and such should be duly considered in the matter, adding that Agency was yet to be properly served with the counter motion by the applicant.

Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo also known as Sunday Igboho, has been arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic, The PUNCH has learnt.

He was arrested at an airport in Cotonou on Monday night, a top source familiar with the matter told our correspondent.

Igboho was arrested by the security forces in Benin Republic about three weeks after the Department of State Services declared him wanted for allegedly stockpiling arms, an allegation he has since denied.

The source told The PUNCH that Igboho will be repatriated to Nigeria on Tuesday (today) from Benin Republic, one of Nigeria’s neighbouring countries in the West African sub region.

“He was arrested in Cotonou while he tried to travel out on Monday night. His destination was Germany. The security forces in Benin Republic should repatriate him to Nigeria on Tuesday,” the source said.

The Nigerian secret police had raided Igboho’s Ibadan residence in the Soka area on July 1, 2021, arrested about 12 of his aides and killed two of them in a gun duel.

The Federal Government of Nigeria had placed the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigeria Customs Service on alert to stop Igboho from leaving the country.

When contacted, a member of Igboho’s legal team, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said he would speak with the lead counsel, Yomi Aliyu (SAN), and revert later.

DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, did not respond to a text message seeking confirmation on the matter.

Afunanya, at a briefing on July 1, 2021, had vowed that “Igboho may run as far as he can. He may hide as long as he wants…But this will be the end of his shenanigans.”

Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Igboho has said the property in his old house set ablaze by unknown arsonists should worth not nothing less than N50 million.

AllNews had earlier reported that Igboho’s house situated at Soka, Ibadan, Oyo State was set ablaze in the early hour of Tuesday a few hours after a meeting was held between Southwest Governors and members of Miyetti Allah.

The meeting was held as a result of the growing tensions over an ultimatum issued by Igboho for criminal herdsmen to leave Oyo State.

Igboho ultimatum follows a seven-day ultimatum issued by the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, for herdsmen to vacate the forest reserves in the state.

Narrating the ordeal of the attack, Igboho who spoke with journalists said the arsonists fired gunshots before breaking in into his old apartment.

He said, “Around 3.30 am today, my younger ones residing at my old house rushed to my gate to wake me up, saying some bandits came to the house, fired gunshots, broke the gate, and set the house ablaze.

“The two persons at the house managed to escape. By the time I got there, the bandits had escaped. So, we called firefighters to help us put out the fire.”

Speaking briefly on why he is against the criminal herdsmen, Igboho said their atrocities in Yorubaland are preventing peace from reigning.

“These Fulanis are killing our brothers in our fatherland. They’re killing, raping, and kidnapping. All the things they are doing to us are not good. That’s why I’m trying to unite our people so that we can chase them away for peace to reign in Yorubaland,” he said.

Igboho, however, expressed that those who attacked his house must have had help from some Yoruba people.

“What I find surprising is that some Yorubas are in support of the herdsmen to set my house on fire. I’m saddened by it,” he said.

When asked whom he suspected to be behind the attack, he said, “For now, I do not suspect anyone.” adding that “isn’t it where I stay that they are supposed to come? If they had come to the house where I stay, I would have had evidence for you people (journalists) because they won’t all escape.

“It’s either you meet their dead bodies or meet them with broken legs. I thank God that they applied wisdom by going to a house where they know that I don’t live and destroyed my properties and burnt it down.”

On the level of damage done to his house, he said, “The worth of what was destroyed at my house cannot be less than N50 million.”

When asked if he’s aware of the language spoken by the bandits, Igboho said, “Those who were at the house are the ones who can give an explanation to that, because I wasn’t there. What they said was that they came with about five cars. I can’t tell for sure because I wasn’t there.”

He said his younger brothers who were at the house during the incident escaped unhurt, noting that the incident has been reported to the police who also came to inspect the scene.

RE: CP ASSURES CITIZENS OF OYO STATE PROTECTION TO LIVES AND PROPERTY

-appeal that all should be calm

– as situation is brought under control in Igangan

– investigation into the arson and the breach of peace in Igangan has commenced

This Press Release is to keep the public abreast of the security situation in Oyo State, especially the Ibarapa and Okeogun zones.

2. Following the fear of threats to public peace, occasioned by the inciting pronouncement of Chief Sunday Adeniyi, A.K.A Sunday Igboho, the Oyo State Police Command jointly with the Operation Burst had embarked on visibility/confidence building patrol of the areas concerned.

3. Sadly, the relative peace and calmness, being enjoyed, due to the visibility patrols of the Security Agencies were truncated by the visit of Sunday Igboho to Igangan, at about 1630hrs on 22nd January 2021. The visit had culminated in a mob action by some youths in the town, who, armed with different types of weapons, embarked on arson and a breach of peace. In the process, grievous hurt was committed against one of the Police Officers, while discharging his statutory duties.

4. It is necessary to state that, in handling the situation, Security Operatives applied extreme caution to avoid casualty and to avoid the situation from degenerating to a complete breakdown of law and order. Be that as it may, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command would like to appeal for calm. Well meaning and peace loving elders in the community are enjoin to caution and advise restive youths to sheath their swords and shun violence in addressing the complex situation at hand. The youths should avoid being used as pawns to ignite ethnic war. At no time has violence been used as weapon to address security challenges.

5. It is also necessary to mention that, substantial numbers of suspects (of different ethnic backgrounds) were arrested in connection with virtually all the cases of kidnapping or assassination, which had occurred in the State. Some have been arraigned in the Court of Law and being remanded in Correctional Facilities, while investigations are still ongoing in some of the cases.

6. The Commissioner of Police would like to reiterate that the Security Agencies will not watch while some criminal elements take laws into their hands. Investigation into the arson and the breach of the peace, which occurred at Igangan will be investigated to logical conclusion and culprits shall be brought to justice.

Once again, the Commissioner of Police calls for calm and solicit the support of the good people of Oyo State in ensuring that we keep the State safe and secure, please.

Leading cattle rearer group in Nigeria, Miyetti Allah, has appealed to the federal and the Oyo State government to effect the arrest of Chief Sunday Adeyemo for assualt on the Seriki Fulani of Oyo State, Alhaji Saliu Abdulkadir.

Oyo State Chairman of Miyetti Allah, Alhaji Ibrahim Jiji who said this while speaking with journalists in Ibadan the state capital on Saturday, stressed that the assualted Seriki Fulani must get justice.

The Miyetti Allah leader said many of his members in the state are now living in fear while many of them had fled their homes for safety.

He urged Yoruba and Fulani residents to allow peace to reign in Oyo State, saying; “We are all Nigerians. We must learn how to leave in peace.”

Alhaji Jiji noted since government is supreme to individuals, the state and federal government should come to their rescue and assure residents of their safety.

He said; “We are all Nigerians. We appreciate and love the governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde for saying the truth. We need to join hands together to ensure we have a peaceful society. Our people are not happy and many of them are living in fear. Some have even fled their abode.”

“We want justice for Seriki Fulani. All those perpetrated the evil must face the wrath of law. They are not more powerful than the government. Who is Sunday Igboho and why is he more powerful than the government?”.

“I have said it times without number that we have criminals among all the tribes and not peculiar to the Fulani. Those who are suffering the injustice now are not the criminals they are hunting for. These are good people and not criminals. Government should do the needful to ensure peace returns to the Ibarapa axis,” he said.

The Presidency says the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the arrest of Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho, for giving Fulani in Oyo State an ultimatum to exit the state.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, was quoted as saying this during an interview with BBC Hausa.

According to the BBC report, Shehu said he had just got off the phone with the IG who told him that an order had been given to the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Ngozi Onadeko, to arrest Igboho immediately and transfer him to Abuja.

Igboho, who is the Akoni Oodua of Yoruba land and a grassroots politician, had asked herdsmen in Ibarapa Local Government Area of Oyo State to leave within seven days, blaming the leadership of the Fulani of being behind the rising insecurity in the state.

A popular Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, on Friday stormed Igangan, Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State to fulfill his promise to chase the Fulanis out of Ibarapa land.

He was received with excitement by youths of the community who welcomed him with singing and dancing before storming Igangan Town Hall where he addressed them.

The visit was in fulfilment of a promise by Sunday Igboho to ensure that banditry and kidnapping were totally eradicated in Ibarapa and Oyo State as a whole.

Sunday Igboho had, on January 15, stormed the Fulani settlements in Igangan with an instruction that the entire Fulanis in the community should leave the area within seven days, having been fingered in the series of abductions, killings, and other criminal activities in the area.

Addressing the youths, Sunday Adeyemo who could not hide his anger insisted that herdsmen will be chased away from the town and the entire Yorubaland for inciting insecurity and banditry.

He enjoined the people to remain calm noting that normalcy, safety and security would soon return to the region with the move taken so far.

He added that the visit is a product of the frustration over the incessant killings, kidnappings, and destruction of farms allegedly carried out by herdsmen in Ibarapaland, Igboho areas of Oyo State as well as in the entire Yorubaland.

Ahead of his arrival, some youths made bonfires on major streets of the town, singing and chanting solidarity and freedom song from all forms of oppressions.

Speaking on the development,a community leader, Taiwo Adeagbo explained that, Sunday Igboho left the town immediately after the meeting held at the town hall.

Chief Adeagbo also said trouble, however, started when some Fulanis brought out some arms including AK-47 to attack some of the youths right in the presence of officers of Nigerian Police that had come to ensure peace and orderliness in the area.

He said eight persons were injured in the attack but were all responding to treatment at the hospital.

Reacting to the development, the Asigangan of Igangan land, Oba Lasisi Olawoye-Adeoye said he had cautioned the Fulanis so many times on their excesses but they had refused to listen to him.

The monarch, however, denied inviting Sunday Igboho to Ibarapa to curb the excesses of the Fulanis as being alleged.

The Seriki Fulani of Yorubaland, Alhaji Saliu Abdulkadri insisted that Sunday Igboho and his men killed two Fulanis while three others are still missing.

Responding, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi said police officers and other security officers have been deployed to the area to prevent further break down of law and order.

He, however, said no report of any killing have been sent to his office.

It was gathered that Seriki Fulani’s settlement and five of his vehicles were set ablaze by the angry mob.
