Tolling Begins on Epe-Mojoda-Ijebu-Ode Expressway from March 24

The Ogun State Government has announced the commencement of tolling operations on the Epe-Mojoda-Ijebu-Ode Expressway, effective Monday, March 24, 2025. The initiative ensures sustainable road maintenance, efficient operations, and enhanced safety.

The 14.7km expressway had been in a deplorable state for several years, posing significant challenges to commuters. However, under the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, the road was reconstructed into a modern expressway equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including toll plazas.

A statement by the Director-General of the Office of Public-Private Partnerships, Mr Dapo Oduwole, explained that despite the road’s Public-Private Partnership, PPP, arrangement, tolling was initially delayed as a gesture of goodwill by Governor Abiodun, who prioritized easing the financial burden on residents.

“The Governor recognized the strategic economic importance of the expressway as a vital link between Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub, and Ogun State. This necessitated the swift completion of the project,” Oduwole stated.“

He further assured motorists that the road was fully equipped with essential amenities, which would ensure a seamless travel experience.

Oduwole noted that the government had deliberately postponed tolling since 2021 to provide relief to residents and commuters, and that tolling operations would commence immediately after nearly four years of free usage.

He added that certain categories of vehicles would be exempted from toll payments.

These include emergency response vehicles such as ambulances, fire service trucks, and law enforcement patrol vehicles.

Others are the State Government’s official vehicles and any additional exemptions as determined by the government.

Early Morning Crash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Kills Nine

Nine persons have been confirmed while three others sustained various levels of injury in an early morning crash along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The accident which happened Ayetoro Area along the expressway involved a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number Uyo, UYY 165 ZY and a MAN truck with registration number DKA 244 XC.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps, the bus which was reportedly on excessive speed rammed into the truck which was stationed.

The driver of the bus who was said to have been tired, according to a statement by the Ogun FRSC Public Education Officer, Chief Route Commander, Florence Okpe, immediately lost his life and that of others.

The statement further explained that while the injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital in Mowe, the deceased were deposited at Idera Morgue in Sagamu.

The statement reads, “The fatal crash occurred at the early hours this morning about 0530HRS on Lagos-Ibadan expressway around Ayetoro area.

“A total of 13 people were involved which comprised of 10 male adult and 03 female adult and 09 were recorded killed (06 male and 03 female) while 03 were injured.
“The suspected causes of the fatal crash were excessive speed and fatigue which led to loss of control and the driver rammed into a station truck.

“The injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital Mowe while the deceased were deposited at Idera morgue Sagamu.”

According to the Public Education Officer, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Fasakin Akinwumi is pained by the recklessness of some drivers for not observing the stipulated speed limit and refusal to obey the 15 minutes rest after 4 hrs journey.

“He sympathize with the family of the crash victims and enjoined them to contact Mowe unit Command for more information about the crash,” the statement further said.

Tinubu Flags Off Expansion of Lagos-Ibadan-Sagamu Expressway

President Bola Tinubu has officially launched the reconstruction and expansion of the Lagos-Ibadan Dual Carriageway ,Section 1, and Section 1 of the Lagos-Sagamu Expressway, reinforcing the federal government’s commitment to infrastructure development.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Sagamu, Ogun State, President Tinubu, represented by Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, announced that the project is expected to be completed within 24 months.

The initiative will include the construction of underpasses at Kara, Wawa, Magboro, and Arepo, as well as flyover bridges at Kilometer 16, near the Mountain of Fire Ministries ,MFM, and Kilometer 37 at Makun, Sagamu.

Additionally, pedestrian bridges will be installed at key locations, including Arepo, Magboro, NASFAT, Deeper Life, and Redemption Camp.

The president also disclosed that the government would commence the construction of the remaining 60-kilometer stretch of the Sagamu-Benin Expressway from the Sagamu Interchange to Itele.

Highlighting the strategic significance of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, President Tinubu described it as the busiest highway in Nigeria and a crucial link between Lagos, the nation’s commercial hub and 17 southern states.

Emphasizing the fundamental role of road infrastructure in economic growth, mobility, and quality of life, President Tinubu acknowledged the prolonged neglect of the expressway, which has resulted in numerous accidents and fatalities.

He assured that the project’s completion would significantly reduce travel time, improve efficiency and productivity, enhance safety, and facilitate ease of doing business across the country.

The inclusion of the Sagamu-Ore Expressway in this phase further demonstrates the administration’s commitment to ensuring Nigeria’s road networks meet international standards and support economic expansion and industrial development.

Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, elaborated on the scope of the project, explaining that it includes key infrastructural improvements, such as underpasses at Magboro, Warewa, Arepo, Sagamu, and Iperu, covering a total of 24 kilometers.

He further outlined the subsequent phase, which will extend from Iperu to Ijebu-Ode, spanning an additional 48 kilometers.

Senator Umahi emphasized financial accountability, directing that no contractor should receive payment without a valid Advanced Payment Guarantee ,APG certificate and Performance Bond.

Chairman of the House Committee on Works, Hon. Akin Alabi, reaffirmed the House of Representatives’ commitment to supporting the Ministry of Works in ensuring Nigerians benefit from well-maintained road networks.

He stressed that the project would have a far-reaching economic impact beyond Ogun State.

Ogun State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr Ade Akinsanya, expressed appreciation for the inclusion of pedestrian bridges in the project.

He assured that the state government would collaborate closely with contractors and federal officials to ensure timely project completion.

The Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, called for additional flyovers at the Sagamu junction and the police divisional junction, along with the establishment of a fire station to respond to emergencies along the expressway.

Mishap Claims One in Ogun, Causes Traffic Jam in 110 Ibadan

One person has died while six others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a fatal motor accident involving a Lexus car and a Zafira Space Wagon that occurred along the Abeokuta/Ibadan highway near Ajobo village.

According to a statement by the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, eyewitness accounts indicated that the accident was caused by the reckless driving of the Lexus car by one 26-year-old Abiodun Michael of Isolu, Funaab Road, Abeokuta, who was travelling toward Abeokuta from Ibadan.

The statement explained that the Lexus driver while negotiating a sharp bend, reportedly failed to slow down, lost control, and veered off his lane, colliding head-on with the Zafira car, driven by 55-year-old Kayode Popoola who was coming from the opposite direction, and died on the spot, while his occupants sustained injuries.

It showed that immediately after the matter was received, the DPO Odeda Division swiftly dispatched motor traffic police and patrol teams to the scene to rescue the victims and secure the area.

The statement said that the injured victims were taken to General Hospital, Odeda, for urgent medical attention while those with fractures were later transferred to FMC Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, for specialized treatment, as the family of the deceased had retrieved his body for burial under Islamic rites.

It stated that the police were actively working to apprehend the driver of the Lexus car who was at large, to bring him to justice.

The statement indicated that the Ogun State Police Command had urged anyone with relevant information regarding the whereabouts of the fleeing driver or any witnesses to the accident to assist with the investigation, towards ensuring that the driver face the full weight of the law.

Similarly, an accident involving a truck and a commercial vehicle at 110 area along the Ibadan, Abeokuta expressway has caused severe gridlock along the axis

The accident forced many motorists to navigate other routes to their destinations.

 Though no deaths or casualties were recorded at the time of filing in this report, it was however observed that security personnel, as well as officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, were on the ground to ensure sanity around the axis Some road users, who spoke with our reporter, lamented the difficulty caused by the accident, which according to them, would lead to lateness to their places of work.

Police lack power to enforce third party insurance – Lawyer

A legal practitioner, Barrister Abiodun Amole says the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun or any of his officers lack the power to enforce third-party insurance in the country.

Mr Amole said this during an interview with newsmen in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

IGP Egbetokun had earlier ordered his men to enforce third-party insurance nationwide starting from !st of February 2025.

Amole, in his reaction, described the action of the Police as illegal and unconstitutional.

The legal luminary noted that the Police Act is the extant law which strictly regulates the operations and or powers of the Police in Nigeria.

He said, “In my humble opinion, the Police lack the power to enforce the 3rd party insurance policy among motorists in Nigeria.

“Again, an insurance policy is essentially a contract between the insurer and the insured party. It is not the duty of the police to enforce a contract or agreement between parties.

“The Police cannot confer on itself the power not given to it by law, the Police Act.

“It is not so stated and therefore cannot be read or imported into it by the police authorities under any guise whatsoever”.

FG Cracks Down on Tanker Crashes

The National Orientation Agency, NOA, on Friday met with Tanker Drivers in Akinyele Area of Ibadan, Oyo State in an effort to reduce requent tanker accidents in the country.

At the meeting ,Director-General of the Agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu urged the drivers to always ensure that their vehicles were in good condition before travelling.

He also told them to always obey  traffic rules and avoid consuming alcohol while driving.

Mallam Issa-Onilu, however, gave the drivers assurance that President Bola Tinubu’s administration was committed to fixing all the failed portions of roads in the country to reduce road crashes and preserve the sanctity of lives.

The NOA Director-General also warned Nigerians to desist from the act of scooping fuel from fallen tankers, noting that, scooping of fuel had often resulted to loss of many lives and property.

He expressed the  President ‘s grief over recent tanker explosions in some parts of the country, including Enugu and Niger States where many lives were lost.

Mallam Issa-Onilu appealed to Nigerians to always be their brothers keepers by rendering assistance to the people in need, instead of looking for ways of looting from scenes of any unfortunate incident.

He raised the hope of Nigerians that policies being put in place by the Federal Government to cushion the effect of economic hardship would soon yield positive result.

Makinde Pledges Improved Standard of living in Oyo State

Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has said that his government would continue to come up with innovative ideas and build the right partnerships that would bring about desired development and propel the state into a great future.

He stated this at the official launch of the first phase of telecommunications and digitalisation partnership between a telecommunication company and Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), held at the Local Government Training School, Secretariat,Ibadan.

Governor Makinde, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi, noted that the partnership embodies the vision of his administration to use technology to address the challenges of governance, enhance efficiency and improve the quality of life for every citizen of the state.

He added that the innovation would create safer roads, reduce travel times, enhance the efficiency of the transportation network and also address challenges in road management through digitalisation.

The governor urged stakeholders to support the transformation and comply with traffic regulations and the state government’s efforts in digitalising and optimising the traffic management system.

Earlier, the Executive Chairman of OYRTMA, Major Adesagba Adekoya (rtd), noted that the collaboration represents a giant leap forward in collective effort to enhance road safety, optimise traffic flow, improve the experience of every road user and also modernise traffic management system in Oyo State.

He added that the first phase of the partnership would introduce a series of cutting-edge initiatives aimed at enhancing the internal operations and overall traffic experience for Oyo State residents.

The OYRTMA explained that the initiatives would include the launch of the closer user group designed for OYRTMA staff to improve communication, foster collaboration and streamline internal operations.

Other parts of the initiatives are advanced traffic management infrastructure through deployment of state-of-the-art surveillance cameras at strategic locations across the state for better monitoring; real time traffic management and control centre for quick response to emergencies and controlling of traffic as well as provision of operational equipment for overall operational effectiveness.

Ekiti Cargo Airport Set for Full Operations

The Ekiti State Government has expressed the readiness of the State Cargo Airport to commence full operations. 

The Commissioner for Information, Chief Taiwo Olatunbosun, stated this after receiving a team from the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency NAMA, who arrived at the airport in a calibration plane to conduct a working flight operation.

He emphasized that the project would transform the state’s economy and position Ekiti as a hub for industrial activities.

Addressing concerns about the deteriorated Ado-Ijan road that provides access to the airport, the commissioner assured residents that the road’s rehabilitation had been approved by the Federal Government, while reconstruction would commence shortly.

The Chairman of the Ekiti Airport Project, Retired Air Vice Marshal Sunday Makinde, explained that the NAMA team was at the airport to inspect key systems, including navigation aids, communication systems with the control tower and other critical parameters required for smooth flight operations.

Retired Air Vice Marshall Makinde also confirmed the airport’s readiness for flight operations, noting that only minor arrangements remain to enable full commercial flight services.

Death, Injuries as Truck Rams into Traders at Eleyele

An accident has allegedly claimed the life of one person with five others seriously injured at Eleyele Roundabout, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

An eyewitness, Mr Olatunde Aroyemu said the commercial DAF truck with registration number DTN328XC loaded with granite lost control and crashed into people selling wares at the entrance of a park.

He explained further that the truck also rammed into some waiting passengers in the park leaving many others injured.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the driver of the truck fled the scene of the accident to prevent being mobbed.

Confirming the accident, the Oyo State Public Relations Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Mayowa Odewo said the accident occurred at 11. 35 am on Wednesday affected six persons.

He explained that five people were seriously injured while a female lost her life in the accident

Mr Odewo added that two other vehicles were involved in the accident.

New Year: Low Turnout of Passsengers at Oyo Motor Parks

 Some motor parks in Ibadan, Oyo state capital on Thursday, recorded low turnout of passengers  compared to last week when the festive period was around the corner.

During  a visit to Dugbe and Oke Padre intra city motor parks, some commercial vehicles and tricycles were on queue while operators were calling on passengers.

One of the leaders of the park management system at Dugbe, Mr Daniel Egha said passengers were still in the mood of celebrating the new year.   

Radio Nigeria also observed that  some private inter state motor parks had few vehicles without passengers on board.

 At Ojoo inter state bus terminal, many vehicles were on ground with few passengers boarding them.

Commenting on the low turn out, the deputy chairman, of Ojoo park management system, Mr Sunday Opeyemi said the low turnout was natural saying passengers were still relieving themselves of the stress experienced in 2024.

Speaking on the transportation fare, Mr Opeyemi said Ibadan to Lagos is N4,000 while Ibadan to Kaduna is N23,000.

Ibadan to Abuja according to Mr Opeyemi cost N25,000  while Ibadan to Jos goes for N30,000.

Mr Opeyemi said the fare was not increased as fuel scarcity often recorded during festive period was not recorded in the new new year.

Yuletide: Travellers Bemoan High Transport Fare

With a few hours to Christmas Celebration,  Nigerians have expressed worry over the possibility of travelling to their ancestral homes due to the rising cost of transport fares and issues of insecurity in some parts of the Country.

During a visit by a Radio Nigeria Ibadan reporter to some major motor parks in Ibadan, Oyo State, some interstate travellers revealed that transport fares had nearly doubled compared to last year.

A trip from Ibadan to Lagos, which was formerly between #2,500 and #3,500, now costs between #4,500 and #6,000 depending on the type of Vehicle, its quality and distance within the city.

One of the travellers, Mrs Moriliat Adepoju, said she forced herself to embark on the trip because of the family programmes lined up for this festive period in her hometown.

She called on the Federal government to urgently address the current economic hardship facing the people.

Another trader travelling to the Southeast Region, Mr Chukwudi John, maintained that though he had decided to travel, the high cost of transportation gave him serious concern, hence he left his family in Ibadan to go alone.

While speaking with some residents in Ibadan on whether they would travel,  they said unless the economy improved, they might consider staying put in their places of residence for moderate celebrations.

Two drivers, Mr. Seun Ogunyinka and Mr. Tunde Owokoniran attributed the little increment in the fares to the high cost of motor parts and petrol. 

While acknowledging the fact that many petrol stations were reducing their pump price per litre, the transporters stressed the need for more reduction in the interest of the public.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government announced free train rides for the public during the Christmas and New Year periods as well as a 50 percent reduction in Interstate road transportation to ease financial burdens on travellers.

Road upgrading projects soon for other zones – Makinde

Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has declared that the durability of urban renewal projects his administration embarked on would serve the state for the next 25 to 30 years.

He said this at the Christmas Carol Service and Nine Lessons, organized by the state government, held at the Remembrance Arcade, Agodi, Ibadan. 

The governor said the road upgrading projects which would soon be extended to other zones of the state, would stand the test of time that future administrations would not need to include them in their budgets.

Governor Makinde while emphasizing the need for thanksgiving in every situation, appreciated religious leaders for interceding through prayers, which according to him gave Oyo state strength and victory over turbulent 2024.

In his word of exhortation, Bishop Wale Oke said Jesus’ birth indicated God sent light to the world to dispel darkness caused by iniquities and offer humanity a path to redemption and salvation.

Invited fathers of faith from different denominations offered special prayers for Governor Makinde, his family and the state. 

The service was thrilled with Bible readings, melodious song presentations, and a Christmas fireworks display, which illuminated the night sky with a kaleidoscope of colours and patterns.

Ladoja Circular Road: Oyo Govt. Commences Re-verification of Landowners

Oyo State Government has commenced re-verification of owners/claimants affected by the acquisition of land on one of the segments of Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road. 

The re-verification is being conducted at Islamic  High School, Basorun, Ibadan. 

Addressing the owners/claimants of houses and land from the Alago to Ajota area, Chairman, Monitoring team on the payment of compensation to land owners/claimants affected on the axis, CP Sunday Odukoya (Rtd), stated that the exercise was geared towards putting smiles on the people. 

CP Odukoya (Rtd) while urging the affected persons of the axis to embrace the opportunity presented by the state government equally appealed to them to cooperate with the team. 

Also, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun, a member of the monitoring team who explained that the exercise is free, told the affected persons not to deal with any third party on the re-verification exercise. 

Some of the land owners/claimants, Jimoh Keyinsi, Kazeem Bello and Mrs Adeola Bolatito in an interview appreciated the modalities on which the re-verification exercise is being carried out and expressed optimism that their efforts would not be in vain. 

They confirmed that necessary documents were verified to ascertain their claims of the properties. 

Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier directed the monitoring team to re-verify documents of affected persons with genuine documents with a view to compensating them. 

The exercise which targeted about 3000 owners and claimants in the axis would be concluded on Saturday 22nd December 2024.

Ladoja Circular Road: Oyo to Carry out Land Ownership Re-verification

Oyo State Government is set to begin the re-verification exercise for land owners/ claimants affected by the acquisition of lands on Segment I of Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road from Alago to Ajota.

The Monitoring Team will carry out the exercise on the Payment of Compensation to Land Owners /Claimants affected on the axis.

The venue of the re-verification is Islamic High School, Basorun, Orita Basorun, Ibadan.

According to the Monitoring Team led by CP Sunday Odukoya (rtd), the re-verification exercise would begin on Sunday, 15 December 2024 by 10 a.m. and conclude on 22nd  December 2024.

The Team informed land owners/claimants to come along with the relevant documents such as

 Local government identification certificate/residence permit for non-indigenes of the state, Land purchase agreement and National Identification Number (NIN) 

The others are two current passport photographs and a Letter of power of attorney from the Ministry of Justice (for proxy purposes).

Also required are bank details, a survey plan of the property/farmland, a photograph of the property/farmland, an affidavit from the court/Ministry of Justice, and two passport photographs of the guarantor /surety’s means of identification.

The Monitoring Team added that the exercise would be done in batches, urging claimants to go to the Ministry of Lands on Friday, 13 December 2024 to check for the batch they fall into.

NCAA Approves Commencement of Flights from Ekiti Cargo Airport

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, has approved the commencement of non-scheduled flight operations at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport, EAICA, in Ado-Ekiti. 

According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Mr Yinka Oyebode in Ado Ekiti, private jets and chartered flights will begin operations under Visual Flight Rules, VFR, during daylight hours at the airport from the 15th of this month to the 15th of June next year. 

In a letter addressed to Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, and signed by NCAA Acting Director General, Captain Chris Najomo, the agency stated that the six-month approval is aimed at enabling the validation of pending compliance findings and rectifying outstanding corrective action items. 

Governor Oyebanji in his reaction, expressed satisfaction with the NCAA’s decision, describing it as a validation of the state’s investment in the airport project. 

He emphasized the potential of the facility to boost Ekiti State’s socioeconomic development by improving accessibility and enhancing the region’s agro-allied export capacity.

Ministry of Aviation Suspends Foundation-Laying of Osun Airport

The Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has announced the suspension of the planned foundation-laying ceremony for the Osun State International Airport.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Emmanuel Meribole disclosed this in a letter sent to the Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

Mr Meribole noted that the decision followed several petitions challenging the relocation of the Airport from its present location at Ido-Osun to Akoda, Ede.

He said there is a need for the Governor to reschedule the foundation laying ceremony of the Osun State Airport pending the resolution of the petitions and selection of a mutually agreed date.

The Ministry, the letter noted,” prioritizes the judicious use of public resources and has requested the temporary suspension of the project to reassess its necessity and long-term benefits to the state and the country.”

The Osun State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC , Mr Inyang Umoh has appealed to members of the public to be calm and cooperate with road safety officers while on patrol duty.

Mr. Umoh made the appeal following an accident which occurred in Osogbo on Friday where an unknown driver hit one of the officers in the course of duty.

The Osun FRSC Boss explained that some drivers were in the habit of avoiding road safety officers at all cost during patrols. 

He stressed that the hit and run driver was not stopped when the Incident occurred but  skidded off the road and hit the officer, who.was out of the track in an attempt to avoid being stopped by officers on patrol. 

Mr. Umoh explained that the Vehicle Number of the Hit and run driver has been traced and investigation was in progress to get him apprehended.

He added that the Road Safety Officer involved in the accident was responding to treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Two Dead, Three Injured in Sagamu-Ijebu Road Mishap

Two people have been reportedly dead while three persons sustained varying degrees of injuries in a fatal crash that occurred on Ososa, Sagamu- Ijebu Ode route.

The accident which occurred on Sunday, 16th June, 2024 at 28 minutes past 11 in the morning involved a 

Ash Howo Truck with no registration number and Blue Toyota Camry Car marked  APP478FS.

The Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ogun sector command, Mrs Florence Okpe who confirmed the crash in Abeokuta the injured victims had been taken to General Hospital, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State as well as the corpses.

She attributed the suspected causes of the crash to speed and loss of control, which led to the rear collision of the two vehicles.

Mrs Okpe noted that the Sector Commander,  Mr Anthony Uga, sympathized with the family of the crash victims and advised motorists to desist from exceeding peeding and give total attention to driving.

Four Die in Sagamu-Ikorodu Road Accident

Four persons have reportedly lost their lives, while four others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a road crash that occurred along Sagamu-Ikorodu Road.

The spokesperson of the Ogun State Sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Mrs Florence Okpe who made this to newsmen in Abeokuta, said the accident involved two vehicles: a Toyota Sienna with registration number LND 945 EL and a bus with registration number AKD 232 XV.

Mrs Okpe stated that the injured victims were taken to a private hospital in Gbaga, Ogijo, while the family took custody of the corpses.

She noted that the suspected causes of the crash were speed and wrongful overtaking which led to rear collision of the two vehicles.

Mrs Okpe disclosed that the Ogun State Sector Commander, Mr Anthony Uga who sympathized with the family of the crash victims, advised motorists to desist from over speeding and give total attention to safe driving always.

NAMA, DSS, Collaborate to Enforce No-Fly Zones

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, and the Department of State Services, DSS, are collaborating to address recent violations of No-Fly Zones in the country especially in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.

This is coming on the heels of recent encroachments of the No-Fly Zones by airlines operating in the nation’s airspace given that violations of prohibited areas pose significant risks to aviation operations and national security.

During a meeting in Abuja to deliberate on the issue, both agencies emphasized the essence of maintaining safety and security standards within the Nigerian airspace as well as adhering to International Civil Aviation Organization, ICAO, guidelines, particularly those outlined in Section 4444 of the Procedures for Air Navigation Services – Air Traffic Management (PANS-ATM).

A statement by the Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Abdullahi Musa, says these guidelines establish standardized procedures to ensure the safe, efficient, and orderly flow of global air traffic.

He said at the meeting, the Managing Director, NAMA, Mr. Farouk Ahmed stressed the need to educate airlines and pilots about adhering to established protocols, listening attentively to air traffic controllers, and maintaining stringent security measures.

The NAMA boss called for strict adherence to the prohibited designated and NOTAMed no-fly zones as published in the Aeronautical Information Publications (AIP) as this was critical in ensuring the security and safety of air navigation in the country.

In his remarks, the DSS Director of Security Enforcement, Steve Ojelade noted that no-fly zones were non-negotiable, stressing that any violations by airspace users could attract severe consequences, including potential military intervention to safeguard national security assets.

Osun Gets New FRSC Sector Commander

The Federal Radio Safety Corps, FRSC has deployed Commander Inyang Umoh as the new Osun State Corps Commander to pilot the affairs of the commission in the State. 

This was disclosed in a statement made available to newsmen in Osogbo by the Sector Public Education Officer, Superintendent Route Commander, Mrs. Agnes Ogungbemi.

Mrs Ogungbemi said Commander Iyang replaced Corps Commander Henry Benamaisia, who has been redeployed to River state as the Zonal Commanding Officer. 

She added that, the new  State Sector Commander, Inyang Umoh joined the FRSC in 1996, hailed from Akwa Ibom state, is married and  graduated of the University of Uyo, with honours degree in Accounting.

Four Die as Vehicle Rams into Motorcycle in Osun

Tragedy struck at Ode-Omu, Osun State, Saturday morning when a car whose occupants were said to be students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, rammed into a motorcycle, killing four persons, including a bike man.

According to witness account the motorcycle, was conveying a woman simply identified as Cecilia and her three children to Oogi town after a vigil when the incident occurred around Obada market, Ode-Omu.

The bike man , the mother and two of her children died instantly with only the youngest child surviving.

Angered by the incidents, some residents chased after the occupants of the car who tried to run away and caught two of them while one person reportedly escaped.

The residents reportedly set those caught on fire but they were said to have been rescued by the Police.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs Yemisi Opalola, said Police officers were able to rescue those set on fire on time and taken to an Hospital in Osogbo for adequate treatment.

Mrs. Opalola added that normalcy had since returned to the Area.

The introduction of railbus vehicles has significant benefits, which include decongesting the nation’s road networks.

By providing an alternative means of transportation such as railbus vehicles, there would be reduction of heavy traffic on Nigeria’s roads. It is expected that it can decrease the number of vehicles on the road.
Railbus vehicles are electric solar powered means of transportation, therefore all tracks will be installed with state of the art solar panels to power all trips. It is worthy to note that it will reduce carbon emissions, sustain a cost-effective energy supply and for passengers, it will translate into lower fares.
Its introduction will attract investment, support rapid development of cities and thereby spur economic growth. They are equally safer compared to vehicles.

With the high level of unemployment in the country, the introduction of railbus vehicles can provide job opportunities in different sectors such as construction, engineering and other menial jobs.

In conclusion, railbus vehicles can play crucial roles in transforming the nation’s transportation landscape, support sustainable development, improve the welfare of the people and ensure rapid economic growth.

Good transportation master plan crucial to Osun’s agro-industry – Adeleke

A good transportation master plan will enhance the agro-industrial base of Osun State

The governor, Senator Adeleke, who stated this at the commissioning of the state’s V.I.O computerised vehicle inspection and services in Osogbo, noted that the transportation sector is a very sensitive one which must not be handled with kid gloves as it deals with human lives. 

Senator Adeleke charged the V.I.O. unit should ensure that the roads were safe at all times by ensuring that only road-worthy vehicles ply the roads.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Sesan Oyedele commended the Governor for his vision for the transportation system in the state.

Mr. Oyedele explained that the Computerised Testing Centre, among other services, will test the roadworthiness of vehicles before issuing vehicle papers and allowing them to ply the road.

He also said it would assist motorists in detecting faults in their vehicles easily instead of patronising quack mechanics by the roadside who do trials.

Mr. Oyedele, advised motorists who want to travel a long distance can also visit the center for the roadworthiness of their vehicle before embarking on such long journeys.

Be Safety Conscious, FRSC Admonishes Road Users

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Osun State Command has again cautioned Motorists against actions capable of leading to road crashes.

The Sector Commander, Mr Inyang Umoh made the call during the One-Day Stakeholders Meeting with transport and road unions with the theme: Accomplish 5% Reduction in Road Traffic Deaths and Injuries held at FRSC Command Hall, Abere.

Mr. Umoh, who was represented by the Deputy Corps Commander, Mrs Medinat Akanbi stressed the need for road users to be safety conscious by abiding by the traffic rules and regulations.

Mr. Umoh warned that the command under his watch would ensure offenders when apprehended are dealt with under the Constitution.

In a remark, the representative of the State Commissioner for Police, Mr Samson Ogunmola frowned at the attitude of some motorists who were in the habit of making and receiving calls while driving.

In her words, the Public Education Officer of the Command, SRC Agnes Ogungbemi warned Lamenco road users to avoid plying one way, due to the ongoing road construction and advised them to ply alternative route for motorists.

The meeting witnessed the presence of representatives from other security agencies in the state, transport union members, and media practitioners amongst others.
