Four persons including a commercial driver have been confirmed dead in an accident that occurred along Olokuta/Shasha Road, in Akure, Ondo State on Wednesday morning.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when a Sienna bus, coming from Ondo axis had a head-on collision with a hummer bus coming from the Akure axis.

The four victims were said to have died instantly.

It took the intervention of motorists and residents around the area to rescue other passengers who were trapped in the vehicles.

Men of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC in Ondo State later got to the scene and removed the corpses of the victims to the mortuary.

The accident caused a gridlock on the Akure-Ondo road for several hours.

Tragedy struck today in Ado Ekiti as four people were feared dead and three others sustained severe injuries in an accident involving a truck and a taxi cab in Similoluwa area of the state capital.

The accident threw passers-by and families of the victims in wailing and mourning.

When Radio Nigeria got to the scene of the accident, sympathizers, motorists and commercial motorcyclists were seen rushing the victims to the hospital for medical attention while corpses of the dead had been deposited at the morgue of EKSUTH.

Many of the sympathizers blamed the truck driver for driving recklessly, while others believed that he was allegedly drunk. Some, however, claimed that the truck had brake failure.

A lady, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, said that only God saved them from the same truck at Dalimore before the accident at Similoluwa.

Radio Nigeria observed that the drivers of the two vehicles were feared dead while the two vehicles were badly damaged beyond repair.

A yet to be confirmed number of persons have lost their lives and many others injured in a lone accident at quarry area of Lagos – Ibadan express way.

A witness Mr Olarewaju Akinrinade who explained that, the accident which occurred around 4:00 o’clock in the evening, on Saturday, said, 18 seater bus was coming from Lagos when suddenly the rear tyre got burst and the vehicle somersaulted before going into flames.

He said, those that lost their lives were trapped in the bus while others were able to crawl out of the vehicle though with various degrees of burns.

Mr Akinrinade who alerted radio Nigeria of the incident commended the station for their promptness in notifying the officials of the federal road safety corp.

The injured had been taken to an undisclosed hospital while the dead were also evacuated from the accident scene.

No fewer than four persons are reported dead in a ghastly accident involving a Toyota Sienna bus and a truck along Oke Axis of Ilesa-Akure Expressway, Osun State.

 The casualties in the crash were two men, a woman and a baby, while others sustained various degrees of injuries.

 An officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ilesa, Mr David Olanrewaju, who attributed the accident to a failure of the truck’s braking system, explained that the impact would have been minimal if the affected vehicles were moving within the speed limit.

 Also confirming the number of the casualties, a staff of Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa, who craved anonymity, said those injured had been treated at the emergency unit.

A narrow gauge train conveying soft drinks from Lagos to Kano has derailed at Farin Ruwa, near Jaji in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing the train driver.

Public Relations Officer, Northern Regional District of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), Zaria, Mallam Abdullahi Alhaji confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.

According to Mallam Alhaji, the driver of the train, Bala Kawu died during the incident.

He said the incident happened as a result of the vandalism of slippers and other accessories on the rail track in the area.

Malam Alhaji added that rescue efforts are currently ongoing to recover the remains of the deceased to salvage the situation for the train to continue its journey to Kano.

Two persons have been injured in an accident involving two horses and three commercial motorcycles on Abbey/Academy road, Odo Ona Elewe,Ibadan.

Radio Nigeria correspondent who witnessed the incident said the two horse riders, between the ages of seventeen and twenty lost control and collided with themotorcyclists.

The motorcyclists fell on the horse riders  while the  horses gallantly walked out of the incident without sustaining any injury.

It took the effort of Radio Nigeria correspondent who witnessed the incident to calm  the mob who wanted to unleash jungle justice on the horse riders.

Four policemen were feared dead in the accident involving the convoy of the Chief of Staff,Professor Ibrahim Gambari; Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola; and his counterpart in Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige.

The convoy was reported to have, crashed during the inspection of a bridge in Asaba, Delta State.

The driver was alleged to have lost control of the vehicle conveying security operatives and crashed into a deep pit.

A witness, John Okorie, said the incident happened when the vehicle conveying the victims was negotiating the bend leading to the construction site of the Second Niger Bridge at  Asaba.

It was gathered that the police vehicle was speeding to meet up with the ministers’ vehicles when it veered off the road and crashed.

Also, a Delta Line driver, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “The incident was very fatal.

“The policeman driver was speeding and while negotiating the bend because of the speed could not control the vehicle. They crashed into a deep pit. I was at the back of the convoy, driving slowly.

“With the help of other people, we rescued four of them but they were badly injured. They were shouting as the vehicle fell on them.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, DSP Bright Edafe, said he was yet to receive the accident report as of the time of filling this report.

“I have not received the accident report, I will get back to you,” he said.

Some shop owners and travellers on Thursday escaped death when an Ondo bound vehicle rammed into shops at the popular Adebowale junction on Ondo road, Akure in Ondo state.

An eyewitness, Mr Lanre Ojurongbe said the vehicle, a sienna bus which was fully loaded with passengers was heading to Ondo town when a motorcycle suddenly showed up from the old Aponmu road and crossed the highway.

According to Mr Ojurongbe, the driver of the Ondo bound vehicle in the bid not to hit the motorcycle rammed into shops at the Adebowale junction as he was on top speed.

Even though no life was lost, but, some of the travellers sustained injuries and were immediately taken to a nearby clinic.

Some residents around the Adebowale area and passersby appealed to the federal government to construct road breakers on the Akure- Ondo road to prevent overspeeding.

One person has been reported dead, while eighteen others sustained varying degrees of injury in a lone accident involving a Toyota Hiace bus at Abere, on Osogbo-Gbongan Highway.

In a statement in Osogbo, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Osun State Command, Mrs Agnes Ogunyemi said the accident occurred at about a quarter before two o’clock in the afternoon.

Mrs Ogunyemi explained that the bus with Registration number EKY 213 lost control due to speed and likely break failure and veered off the road colliding with an object, leading to the crash of the overloaded vehicle.

She said the corpse was taken away by the family, while the eighteen injured others were taken to Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo for treatment.

The FRSC Spokesperson who noted that the 18 seated bus carried 20 passengers’ cautioned motorists against speed violations to avoid accidents.

The remains of Dorcas  Egunjobi, a 23 year old mother of one that was allegedly killed in an accident that occurred at Odeku area of Oluyole local government Oyo state has been buried.

Dorcas a mother-of-one was said to be coming from her shop when she met her untimely  death.
It was gathered that  the motorcycle she boarded  together with her four year old daughter colluded with a Lorry at odeku and she died immediately.

Radio Nigeria correspondent that visited the scene explained  that the issue had triggered a protest by some youths in the area as they barricaded motorist and commercial motorcyclists from carrying out their normal duties.


 Two members of the youths  forum in the area Mr olamide Badru  popularly called biggi and Mr adetunji ridwan said the protest was to call the attention of the Oyo state government  and the house of assembly representative for the area  Tolu Sadie to the situation.

One person has reportedly died while another man sustained injury in a road crash involving a motorcycle and a sienna car along the Kobape – Kuto Abeokuta road. 

Eyewitnesses told Radio Nigeria that the motorcyclist conveying two passengers was coming out of Toolu village, opposite Paramount FM, and negotiating his way to link the expressway en route Kuto. 

One of the witnesses, Mr. Oye Adekunle explained that car, coming from Kobape axis of the road on a high speed lost control and rammed into the motorcycle. 

Mr. Adekunle who attributed the accident to excessive speeding by the car driver and recklessness on the part of the motorcyclist, maintained that the rider had made a sudden turn without proper checks.

Radio Nigeria observed that both the driver of the sienna car and the motorcycle rider were unharmed, while the surviving bike passenger had been rushed to the hospital by officials of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, who also evacuated the remains of the pillion rider that reportedly died.

Five persons have died while two others sustained injury in a fatal crash that occurred on Iperu axis of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Mrs Florence Okpe, who confirmed the incident in a statement in Abeokuta, said the crash occurred around quarter to nine this morning.

Mrs Okpe explained that the multiple crash involved a tanker marked UWN 279YT, a truck AAB 973ZY and two tricycles with registration numbers PKA 438 UN and LSD 566QF.

Attributing the cause of the crash to dangerous driving and excessive speed leading to loss of control, the FRSC Public Enlightenment Officer said four of the deceasedhad been deposited at the mortuary while the remains of another victim had been evacuated by the family.

She maintained that the State Sector Commander of the Corps, Mr Ahmed Umar had described the crash as avoidable and advised motorists to shun dangerous driving but to obey traffic rules and regulations.

Two school pupils have been presumed dead while two other persons were injured in a crash that occurred on Sagamu-Ikorodu road in Ogun State. 
The accident involved a truck marked SHR 35 XA and a motorcycle with registration number LSD638QB reportedly conveying the pupils of Idagba Community High School, Sotubo, and Wesley Primary School, Ogijo. 
A witness explained that the motorcyclist while trying to find his way between two trailers fell sideways and the rear tyre of one of the trailers ran over the passengers, killing two siblings on the spot.

Ekiti United fc team bus was today involved in a lone accident.

The accident occurred while the players were returning to Ado Ekiti from Ikere after their training session.

There were however no casualty in the accident.

Reports have it that the vehicle had been in a bad shape lately as it broke down in Ibadan after the NNL match against Vandrezzer fc in Lagos.

It took at least five hours for mechanics to fix it thereby leading to late arrival of the team in Ado last Thursday night.

The team had no choice than to embark on another journey to Ilorin the following day, which was Friday to play another match before returning home on Sunday.

A motorcyclist whose age is between 30 and 40 years has been taken to University College Hospital, UCH following a lone accident

A Statement by the Social Welfare Unit of the hospital indicates that the accident occured on 24/02/2021 at 110 area Odo- Ona Apata Road.

The statement adds that the victim who sustained head injury was brought  by Police Officer unconsciously to UCH.

Four people have been presumed dead in a lone accident that occurred at Atoyo along Sagamu/Benin Expressway.

The Spokesman of Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, TRACE, Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi who confirmed the incident in a statement in Abeokuta said the accident involved a commercial bus whose registration number could not be identified.

Mr. Akinbiyi explained that the personnel of the corps, FRSC and Police had diverted the road following a tanker loaded with black oil had spilled its contents on the road due to the leakage from the tanker.

He said the driver of the bus conveying fourteen passengers failed to obey the traffic, rammed into the tree and caught fire.

Mr, Akinbiyi who attributed the accident to brake failure said four passengers in the bus were burnt beyond recognition while the remaining people in the bus could not be found.

At around 11am this morning, the lift installation team from our contractor handling the installation of the new lift to improve efficiency of work at Odu’a Investment Company Limited while working on the lift suffered a mechanical failure.
The said failure resulted in the lift car dropping and crashing into the basement pit.
Unfortunately, one of the technicians in the team did not survive the incident.
Three other technicians suffered minor injuries and have been taken to the hospital for check up/ treatment.
The head office of the company has been informed and their representatives have arrived to take charge of the situation while the Police have also been informed.

Four people were feared dead in a ghastly motorp accident that occurred at Funduk Bus stop along Ojoo Moniya road this afternoon.
The accident which involved a trailer and a micra taxi with plate number TUT 361 XA was said to have happened as a result of break failure of the trailer, which left three passengers and the driver of the micra lifeless, while one of the passenger sustained injuries has been taken to an undisclosed hospital by FRSC officers.
Radio Nigeria Amuludun FM correspondent who was at the scene of the accident said the FRSC officials, policemen, and Amotekun corps member who evacuated the dead bodies from the badly damaged taxi cab.
According to eye witness account, the trailer driver that caused the accident was drunk as the odour could be perceived from his mouth.
Some of the on lookers who spoke with AFM correspondent testified that one of the victim of the accident was a hair dresser, who went to buy attachment before she met her untimely death.
Another person who escaped the accident said the late driver of the micra refused to take him because of disagreement over a five naira change.
All efforts to speak with FRSC officials at the scene proved abortive, as they said they were not authorised to speak with newsmen on the issue. Funke Ajayi.

A lone accident involving men of the Nigeria Police has claimed two lives of policemen in Akure.

The accident which occurred on Oba Ile road was reportedly caused by a burst tyre.

Ondo State Police Command PRO Tee Leo who also confirmed the accident said accident said Eight other policemen sustained various degrees of injuries and had been taken to the hospital.

Report says the convoy of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu ran into the scene and made efforts to rescue the injured.

Five people including a grandmother and two of her grandchildren have been crushed to death in a road accident at Boluwaji Garage along Iwo Road-Challenge Expressway in Ibadan.

Eyewitness account indicates that around noon, a truck loaded with gas en-route the axis swerved off the road while recklessly competing with another truck and rammed into the people.

The truck was said to have as well crushed about three other taxis cars.

A witness who did not want his name mentioned said only a boy from the family of three involved in the accident escaped death by the whiskers.

The witness explained that the boy just snatched his hands off his grandma and fled to safety.

The witness noted that luck was in favour of another woman of whom nobody could account for how she survived under the truck.

Ibrahim who lost children and his mother to the accident, was not coherent to give details.

Ibrahim, however, insisted that the driver of the truck be produced.

Police officers at the scene did not give a concrete information on the whereabouts of the driver.

The situation, however, became very tense as sympathisers insisted that the truck should not be moved away from the scene.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in Oyo State, Mr Gbenga Fadeyi proved abortive as he did not respond to calls put through his telephone line.

An aged woman and her grandchild have been confirmed dead in a lone road crash that occurred at Falawo, Epe junction, in Sagamu local government area of Ogun state.

Those who witnessed the crash recounted that a speeding car had lost control and somersaulted before hitting the woman and her granddaughter in front of their house.

The aged woman and her granddaughter reportedly died on the spot while the four occupants in the vehicle, including the driver were said to be rushed to the hospital.
