The Minister for Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola wants Muslims to pray for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other political leaders.

Alhaji Oyetola made the call in Iragbiji, Osun State, during the commissioning of a newly built ultra-modern mosque to immortalise his late mother, Alhaja Wulemotu Arike Oyetola.

Oyetola who was joined by the Asiwaju Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta, Chief Tunde Badmus to commission the mosque on Friday noted that he commenced the project two years.

He said: “In 2006 when my mother was installed as Iyalaje Adini of a Central Mosque, I asked her what she wanted me to do, she said I should invite my friends to donate for rehabilitation of the mosque. I was able to donate N6.5 million and we used the entire money to rehabilitate the central mosque.

“So I now thought about what she would have loved me to do if she were to be alive and I concluded that it is important for me to build a central mosque in her memory.”

He added: “Ramadan is a month of peace and a month of forgiveness, we should ensure that we keep peace with everybody and we should continue to pray for our leaders, the president, the governors, the ministers of the country, and everyone.”

Also Speaking, Chief Khamis Badmus, who commissioned the mosque, stressed the need for continuous support for fellow Muslims during and after the Ramadan.

He described the mosque as a lasting legacy for Oyetola’s mother and urged Muslims worldwide to emulate such acts of devotion and community service.

The mosque, equipped with modern facilities, is a reflection of his commitment to honouring his mother’s legacy and providing a befitting place of worship for the Muslims in the community.

The event had in attendance top shots of the All Progressive Congress, APC, traditional rulers, Islamic clerics among other notable personalities.

There was large deployment of security operatives across strategic points in Osogbo, Osun State capital, on Friday, as the Election Petition Tribunal set to deliver its judgement.

The All Progressives Congress and ex-Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, were challenging the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate at the July 16 governorship poll, Senator Ademola Adeleke, who was returned elected by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Armed police operatives were observed at the Osun State secretariat of the PDP and that of the APC, as well as the state office of the APC presidential campaign in Osogbo.

The road leading to the premises of Osun State High Court, where the panel will deliver the judgement was blocked to traffic, thus students, staff and others with business along the route had to trek long distances to their destinations.

Security sources told newsmen that the panel had directed that 25 people each from both parties would be allowed into the premises.

Lawyers and journalists were, however, allowed in after they have been identified.

As of the time of filing this report,.Justice Tetsea Kume had led other two members of the panel into the court room to begin reading the judgement.

Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Osogbo, the State capital will on Friday, January 27, 2023, deliver its judgement in the petition of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola challenging the election of the incumbent, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

This is contained in a notice dated Tuesday, January 24, 2023, issued by Secretary to the Tribunal and made available to parties.

The 180 days stipulated in the Electoral Act within which to hear the petition is expected to lapse on January 31, 2023.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, had filed a petition at the tribunal challenging the declaration of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, by the Independent National Electoral Commission as the winner of the election which was conducted on July 16, 2022.

Adeleke secured 403,371 votes to defeat Oyetola, who polled 375,027.

Mr Oyetola, the immediate past Governor of the state is hinging his case on alleged election rigging by over voting in 749 polling units and the authenticity of the WAEC certificate presented by Governor Adeleke among other grounds.

The three-man election petition tribunal headed by Justice Tersea Kume had on January Friday 13, 2023, adjourned indefinitely for judgement after parties in the petition adopted their final written addresses.

The Osun State Election Petition Tribunal has admitted in evidence the file with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) containing the secondary school certificate and testimonial of Governor Ademola Adeleke of the State.

The Petitioners, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola and the All Progressives Congress (APC), closed the prosecution of the matter, leaving respondents to commence their defences.

The admission of the documents followed the appearance of INEC representative, Mrs. Joan Arabs, who brought Adeleke’s original files containing the certificate he submitted to the Commission in 2018.

Recalled that during the last sitting of the panel, the Commission had submitted blank document as the secondary school certificate of the governor, a situation that compelled the panel to order that the original file be brought, and to  threaten to invoke Coercive Power if it fails to do so.

At the resumed hearing of the petition on Saturday, Counsel for Oyetola, Chief Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), said the hearing for the day was basically meant for the appearance of INEC representative to produce the Adeleke’s file in line with the court order.

Counsel for INEC, in his response, said that INEC representative was already in court with the files containing a clearer and legible certificate and testimonial in question, saying he would be willing to apply for the return of the documents to INEC, when the tribunal is done looking at it.
After the production of the documents, the tribunal, while discharging the INEC official, said, “You can now go if you wish to. No policeman will accost you again.”

Subsequently, Oyetola’s counsel sought to tender the documents which contain form CFO01 and its attachments, including Adeleke’s credentials, saying the original file brought to court is a primary evidence and he was comfortable with it.

Counsel for INEC, Chief Henry Agunedo (SAN), said he would be objecting to the admissibility of the documents on the ground that the basis for the production of the whole file was because only two pages of the earlier-produced Certified True Copies were in contention, saying tendering the whole documents was out of place.

Counsel for Adeleke and PDP, Niyi Owolade and Alex Izinyon (SAN) respectively, said they have objection to the tendering of the said documents, but they would reserve their objections till final address stage.

Izinyon also observed that the only documents in contention were only two pages which are Adeleke’s certificate and testimonial, saying the CTC earlier produced has not been tendered before the court.

Responding, Fagbemi said the practice everywhere is that INEC can only apply and get back the files after the dispensation of the cases, saying, “We asked for CTC and now that they brought this. We are fine, we will take it”.
Ruling on the documents tendered, the tribunal led by Tertsea Kume admitted the credentials and the Adeleke’s nomination form as exhibit ‘FILE D’ and taken as read.

It was after the tribunal admitted the documents that Fagbemi informed the panel that he had decided to close his case, saying, “My Lord, we rest our case”.

When the tribunal asked INEC to open his defence, Chief Agunedo said, it would be difficult for him to open his case on Monday, saying non-availability of his witnesses would make it practically impossible.

The panel then asked the counsel to meet and agree on adjournment date after which Counsel for INEC briefed the panel the outcome of the meeting.

Subsequently, the tribunal adjourned the case till December 20 for the respondents to open their defence, saying the adjournment was based on another engagement by the tribunal somewhere else between 12th and 19th December 2022.

Earlier, Oyetola’s counsel had informed the panel that the Court of Appeal in Abuja had reverted the judgement of a Federal High Court which disqualified Oyetola from contesting the election.

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, declined to disqualify Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State from participating in the impending governorship election in the state as candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The court, in a judgement that was delivered by Justice Inyang Ekwo, held that the suit that sought to invalidate governor Oyetola’s nomination as flag-bearer of the APC for the election, lacked merit and deserved to be dismissed.

Justice Ekwo held that the Plaintiff, Moshood Adeoti, failed to establish a reasonable cause of action to warrant Oyetola’s disqualification.

More so, the court held that the suit, which it said was an abuse of the judicial process, was not backed with relevant laws, adding that it was brought outside the scope of section 87(9) of the Electoral Act and Section 22 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Civic Engagement, Mr. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, the governor said that the continuous weaponization of religion, ethnicity, and promotion of cultural differences must stop, for the country to remain peaceful and united.

He also urged Nigerians to join in efforts to fix the nation, so as to make the country conducive for the coming generation, pointing out that such was also part of his administration’s development strategy, which every serious government must make a top agenda in the policy system.

Oyetola also warned residents, especially non-indigenes, against the shielding of criminals, insisting that suspicious movements must be reported to appropriate quarters in the interest of continued peaceful coexistence in the state.

“My administration will continue to provide adequate security for all the residents of the state.

“But you must also support the government by not harbouring criminals. Always report cases of breakdown of law to the appropriate authority on time,” he said.

A monarch, Baabokun of Ibokun, Oba Festus Awogboro, in his remarks, promised to sustain peaceful co-existence among indigenes and non-indigenes in his domain.

Speaking at the event, Alhaji Shuaib Gomina, who is the Seriki Hausa Community in Osun, commended the governor for providing enabling environment for peaceful co-existence among the indigenes and non-indigenes in the state.

Gomina also said that members of the Hausa Community in the state would massively support Oyetola’s re-election in the July 16 governorship election.

According to him, the governor deserved to be re-elected due to his excellent performances in the last three and half years in the state.

In his response, Lugu, the new Seriki of Hausa lbokun town, appreciated the people of Ibokun and the traditional leaders for the privilege to serve in the capacity and promised to work for the progress of the town as well as that of the Hausa Community.

Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, will on Thursday, May 12, pay compensation to victims of police brutalities in the state.

A statement by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Mr. Ismail Omipidan explains that compensations to be paid are in line with the recommendations of the #EndSARS Panel, set up by the Governor, following a presidential directive.

The statement notes that governor Oyetola’s administration is committed to ridding the state of all forms of injustice against the oppression of the weak.

It enjoins citizens of the state to hold external and internal institutions and other citizens accountable in ways that conform to the ethos of Omoluabi.

It should be recalled that governor Oyetola set up a Judicial Panel of Inquiry against Police Brutality, Human Rights Violations, and Related Extra-Judicial Killings, led by a retired Judge of the High Court, Hon. Justice Akinwale Oladimeji.

The panel was to look into cases of assault, illegal arrest, killings, brutality, and other forms of rights abuse by the officers and men of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS,  of the Nigerian Police.

While receiving the report in August last year, the governor assured that the government would implement the recommendations of the panel in a manner that would ensure that justice was served.

But while putting strategies in place for the compensation, there was another presidential directive that states should submit their reports to the Presidency.

However, In his message to Osun youths during the anniversary of #EndSARS, the governor had promised to pay the compensations as recommended by the Panel even after submitting the report to the Presidency as directed.

Scores of youths in Iragbiji community, hometown of the Governor of Osun State, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, today stormed major roads, displaying dangerous weapons in protest at the death of a prominent herbalist who allegedly died of food poisoning.

It was gathered that the herbalist had on Tuesday this week attended a naming ceremony in the town where he reportedly ate and consequently developed a stomach upset and later died at the party.

Youths in the community suspected that the herbalist was poisoned by those who organised the ceremony.

The youths, who were armed with cutlasses, broken bottles and other dangerous weapons around the Alabi junction and the palace of the community, barricaded the Ada-Ikirun road where they made born fires.

The rampage disrupted business activities as shop owners shut their doors, while motorists were denied use of the road as they threatened to attack any motorist that dared their directive.

When the spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola was contacted on the issue, she explained that at about 9:50 AM in Iragbiji, some hoodlums assembled themselves to make bonfires on the road denying motorist to access the road.

Mrs Opalola stated that the reason why the youths were burning tyres at Orita-Alabiamon to Aragbiji Palace was that the police arrested one of them over drug-related offence.

She said policemen had been deployed from Ikirun and Iree including the Joint Task Force team to the scene and had chased the hoodlums away from the road and restored peace in the area.
