With the vision of the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, there will be environmental uplift and further development that will transform Ibadan for the better.

 A Historian from University of Texas Austin, United States of America, Professor Toyin Falola made this known while delivering the First Olubadan Coronation Lecture in honour of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Oyo State.

Speaking on the Lecture Titled, “Ibadan In History: Issues In Tradition and Modernity“, Professor Falola said, Ibadan was rich in culture and hospitality, noting that, many residents had benefited in no small measure from the ancient city. 

He said, Oba Ladoja would use his wealth of experience as a former politician, industrialist and now as a traditional ruler to make a positive change in the area of education, cleaning of the city and others. 

In a goodwill message, the Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale described the journey of Oba Ladoja as a unique blend of modernity and deep respect for tradition. 

On his part, the Chairman, Coronation Committee, who is also a former President-General, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, CCII, Chief Bayo Oyero said, Oba Ladoja’s reception by all signified that, he is a man of the people, hence, witnessing various programmes as part of activities for his coronation.

Ahead of the coronation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, activities have been lined up with the inaugural meeting of the Coronation Committee under the Chairmanship of a former President-General of Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, CCII, Chief Bayo Oyero.

The meeting, which had in attendance the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Chief Demola Ojo, deliberated on the Coronation scheduled for Friday, September 26, 2025, at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, Oyo State. 

In a statement by the State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the coronation would kick off with an interdenominational service on Monday, 22nd of September at the Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, Ibadan. 

This would be followed by a Cultural Day on Tuesday, 23rd, jointly promoted by CCII and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, while a coronation lecture would be delivered by a renowned scholar, Professor Toyin Falola, on Wednesday, 24th of September.

On Thursday, September 25, a Mega Praise worship will hold at the Civic Centre, Idi Ape, Ibadan.

The inaugural meeting was attended by representatives of the Olubadan, including the Asipa Olubadan-designate, Oba Hamidu Ajibade; Chief Nureni Adisa; and the Media Aide to the Olubadan, Chief Adeola Oloko. 

Also in attendance were the Commissioners for Culture and Tourism, Women Affairs and Social Inclusion; and Information; the Chairmen of Egbeda and Ibadan South-East Local Government Areas, representing the 11 Local Government Areas in Ibadanland.

The newly elected President-General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Barrister Niyi Ajewole on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the Alarere Palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun.

He promised to complete the ongoing construction of the Olubadan Palace located at Oke-Aremo, Ibadan within six months of his administration so that the monarch can move in.

Speaking during the courtesy visit, Ajewole applauded the Olubadan for his efforts towards stability of peace and tranquility in Ibadanland and its environs.

He maintained that the Olubadan Palace would be completed within six months of his administration, saying Oba Balogun would be the first Ibadan monarch to reside in the new palace. 

He said, “We shall take steps to rehabilitate our youths for them to be useful to the society particularly Ibadanland, we are planning to have a microfinance bank so that all our market men and women can have access to short loan.”

The CCII President General-elect said his administration would run an all-inclusive government where everyone would be carried along in the activities of the Council.

“People should expect transparent administration, administration that will serve Ibadan people wholeheartedly, an administration that will honour the Oyo State Governor, the Olubadan, the Olubadan-in-Council, the Mogajis, Baales and all Chiefs in Ibadanland.”

He said his administration would unite with all the aggrieved parties so as to take Ibadanland to greater heights.

Ajewole however sought the support of the Olubadan, Olubadan-in-council, sons and daughters of Ibadanland so as to take the city to its destination of glory.

Other elected members of the CCII Executive Council include:First Vice President General, Dr. Tirimisiyu Oladimeji; Second Vice President General, Baale Alamu Oloyede; General Secretary, Ayobami Subair; Treasurer, Prince Caleb Akande; 1st Assistant General Secretary, Mogaji Ismail Sodeinde; Second Assistant Secretary General, Rafiu Iyanda; Publicity Secretary, Kola Olomide; Financial Secretary, Oyasogo Olumuyiwa; Legal Adviser, Barr. Adekola Taiwo; Social Secretary, Alhaja Folashade Olayiwola; and the Chief Whip, Mrs Bolaji Olowookere.

Speaking on behalf of the Olubadan, the younger brother to the monarch, Sen. Kola Balogun described Ibadan as the giant of Africa and God’s own land.

He said Olubadan intervened in CCII crisis to forestall the breakdown of law and order in the town, promising to support the CCII executive in completing the palace.

The Aliiwo family has appreciated the Governor of Oyo State,  Engr Seyi Makinde for the approval of Oba Mohood Olalekan Balogun as the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland. 

This is contained in a statement in Ibadan signed  by the head of Aliiwo family,   

Engineer Daud Balogun ( Mogaji Agba).

The statement notes that Aliiwo sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora were delighted over the development, thanking the Governor for making the family rekindle the history again after seventy years of the reign of the first Olubadan from the lineage,  Oba Memudu Ejalonibu Okunmade Aliiwo 1.

The family also lauds the Olubadan-in-Council for its support, the display of solidarity and insistence on the sacredness of the tradition of succession to the stool of Olubadan of Ibadanland. 

The statement appreciates the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, CCII for its roles in dousing tensions at the appropriate time and necessary interventions to ensure that the widely respected traditional system to the throne of Olubadan is intact.

The family commended the overwhelming support for Oba Olalekan Balogun by sons and daughters of Ibadanland at home and in diaspora promising that the monarch will not disappoint them and would ensure total transformation of the ancient city. 

The statement adds that with the support of all and sundry, Ibadan will witness peace , progress and development during the reign of Oba Mohood Olalekan Balogun as the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland.

The special committee set up by the Oyo State government to oversee the final burial ceremony of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji has assured residents of Ibadan and guests that would attend the ceremony of adequate security of lives and properties.

The committee, which was headed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Bayo Lawal was inaugurated on Monday 24th, January 2022 and has among members, political appointees, top government officials, representatives of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Ibadan Progressive Union (IPU) and family members of the late Olubadan.

According to the statement by Mr Bayo Lawal, Saturday 12th February 2022 has been set aside as a Day of Tributes to celebrate the late Olubadan at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium at Oke-Ado in Ibadan, starting from ten in the morning.

Other activities lined up for the day include prayers for the repose of the soul of the deceased by Christian, Muslim and traditional religious leaders, after which there would be traditional eulogies, tributes by selected personalities and groups.

There will be a documentary on the life and times of the late Olubadan to detail the views of the deceased on Ibadan traditional Chieftaincy law among other interesting issues.

“Let me at this juncture assure all guests, visitors and friends that will be attending, that adequate security is guaranteed before, during and after the event, all security agencies in the State have been alerted and mobilized, including the men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Agency (OYRTMA), so as you have effective and free-flow traffic around the venue and adjoining roads within the Oke-Ado and Ring Road/ Liberty Road axis.

“It is, therefore, pertinent to warn trouble makers ad people that do not have anything doing at the event to stay away, as security agents will not hesitate to deal decisively with anyone who conducts themselves in manners that are likely to cause a breach of peace and order.”

The commissioner used the medium to invite great sons and daughters of Ibadanland within Nigeria and in the diaspora to join hands with the State government to ensure a befitting burial is accorded the late monarch.

While appreciating the State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde for giving the committee the needed support and wherewithal to accomplish the success of the burial, the Committee Chairman enjoined members of the media industry to accord the event the needed publicity.

Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, CCII, has urged fifth columnists in the ancient city to desist from promoting information capable of fuelling crises in the Olubadan succession process.

The President General, CCII, Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga gave the warning during a press briefing on the 2022 Ibadan Cultural Festival and the official launch of the association’s website at Ibadan House, Oke Aremo.

Prince Adeaga assured the indigenes of Ibadan that the lingering issues surrounding Olubadan stool would soon be resolved.

He explained that sons and daughters of Ibadan land had ways of resolving their conflicts amicably hence, the need to desist from divisive information dissemination.

Speaking on the 2022 Ibadan Cultural Day Festival, Prince Adeaga explained that the Cultural Day festival is a ten-day programme that would hold between the 3rd and 12th of March this year.

The CCII president said Okebadan Parade and cultural display would take place on day one at Mapo followed by special Jumat Service at the Central Mosque, Ojaaba and Amala Day at Ibadan House on day two.

Days three and four according to him would feature a visit to the new Olubadan, indigenous musicians’ night and church services. 

Other events lined up for the remaining days are stage play, female and male football competition, exhibitions, medical outreach and luncheon.

Other events are the Oreke Beauty Contest, talent hunts, debate/essay competition and results of market environment competition.

The event according to him would climax with parades and special awards presentations to past CCII president generals as well as to deserving friends and indigenes of Ibadanland.

Commenting on the official website of CCII, chairman 2022 Ibadan Cultural Week, Mr Balogun Ojetola said the website was created to showcase past and present activities of Ibadan Cultural Day and personalities that had played one role or the other in the programme.

Dignitaries from all walks of life converged on Ibadan for the launch of a book titled “Grace Unabounded, My Life, My Service” written by the former president, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, CCII, Chief Bayo Oyero.

The book which is the autobiography of Chief Oyero focused on the career experiences and contributions of the writer to Ibadanland.

Reviewing the book, pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Caleb University Imota, Ikorodu, Professor Rotimi Tayo, said the book, with four chapters and four hundred and twenty-six pages, gave details of Chief Oyero’s plights and achievements in his career.

Chairman on the occasion, former Pro-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Engineer Wale Babalakin who was thrilled by the insightful delivery of the book, said the content called for a rethink on the collapsing structure of education in the country.

In a remark, the Aare Mayegun of Ibadanland and former President-General, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, CCII, Chief Adebayo Oyero explained that the book showcases reasons government should prioritize civil service which he described as the engine room of any government.

Dignitaries at the book launch included a two-time Minister of Industry, Chief Mrs. Onikepo Akande, Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor, Mr. Segun Ogunwuyi, present and past executives of Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, the Olubadan-in-Council, captains of industries and members of the academia.

Reactions have continued to trail the death of a foremost industrialist, the Parakoyi of Ibadan land Chief Bode Akindele.

Aged 87, Chief Akindele died in the early hours of Monday.

Chief Bode Akindele, was a successful philanthropist who established Aramed medical Centre along Lagos Ibadan express way among other businesses.

Until his death, the Ibadan born statesman, Sir Akindele was a friend of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Ibadan Zonal Station.

First to react to the death was the Olubadan Oba Saliu Adetunji who spoke through his media aide, Adeola Oloko.

Oba Adetunji described the role of the deceased in the economic development Oyo state as pivotal.

President General, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, Chief Yemi Soladoye expressed the sadness that sir Akindele was the seventh Ibadan indigene who passed on in recent time.

Chief Soladoye said the deceased was a pride of Ibadan.

Pastor Tunji Agboola had a great relationship with the deceased who he described him as a man who lied to lift others up.

Reacting, the Zonal Director FRCN, Ibadan Zonal Station, Alhaji Mohammed Bello said the deceased was a friend of FRCN who was keen about human emancipation.

Chief Bode Akindele was an Ibadan born industrialist who impacted his generation.
