Osun State government has reiterated its commitment towards ensuring unprecedented development across the nooks and crannies of the State.

The State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke gave the assurance while inaugurating a motorized borehole for the People of Odogbo ijesa, Atakumosa Local Government Area.

Senator Adeleke represented by Commissioner for Rural Development and Community Affairs, Alhaji Ganiyu OlaOluwa noted that with the ongoing developmental Projects, the Governor has written his name in gold.

 Senator Adeleke “We are here today to let you know that the present administration feels your pain, most especially in the area of potable water which necessitated our coming here to eliminate your suffering”.

He assured the residents that the ancient city of Odogbo-Ijesa would continue to benefit from the good gestures of the present administration.

The Governor implored residents of the town to ensure proper maintenance of the project.

Earlier in a remark, The Olodogbo of Odogbo-Ijesa, Oba  Olatunde Oginni appreciated Governor Adeleke for his magnanimity towards the people of the town, saying he is a man of his word.

Oba Oginni maintained that a project of such magnitude has eluded the town for more than one hundred years existence of the town.

While appealing to the State Government to provide Electricity, and access roads for the town, The Monarch assured residents that the Governor of his town’s total loyalty towards the success of his administration.

The Event had in attendance, the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development and Community Affairs, Mr Lateef Adedapo, management of the Ministry of Rural Development and Community Affairs, the PDP Chairman, Olorunda Local Government, Mr. Amzat Otitokoro among other distinguished personalities.

Osun State government says it will be transparent in the implementation of the 273.9 billion naira 2024 budget of the state.

Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Professor Morufu Adeleke stated this during a news conference with newsmen to do a brief analysis and breakdown of the 2024 budget which was just passed to law by the governor, at the Finance House, Osun State Secretariat, Abere, Osogbo.

Professor Adeleke said the current government in Osun State has made it a priority to be transparent in its dealings and let the people know how the state government is managing the state resources.

The commissioner gave a quick rundown and breakdown of the budget, stating that the infrastructure sector would be taking the biggest chunk of the budget with 55.03 billion naira representing 50.10 per cent.

He said the 2024 approved budget estimate is not based on net financing as a loan, but that the budget, in turn, would be taking care of the debt commitment of the previous administration, in terms of debt servicing and payment of pension and gratuity.

Clarifying the budget for the Office of the Governor, the commissioner said the Budget for the Office of the Governor comprises of Governor’s Office, Office of the Deputy Governor, Office of the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Bureau of General Services, Bureau of Government House and Protocol, Bureau of Parastatal and Bureau of Social Services.

Professor Adeleke said the breakdown and simplified version of the state budget would soon be made available to citizens of the state, both in Yoruba and English languages.

In a remark, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Chief Kolapo Alimi noted that the government of Governor Ademola Adeleke is always ready to reveal the true state of matters in the interest of the public.

He appreciated journalists for supporting the state government through reporting its activities, urging them to sustain the ethics of journalism by balancing their reports.

…as Lawmakers Pass OSHA Service Commission Establishment Amendment Bill into law

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has requested the State House of Assembly to approve a sum of 30 billion naira as supplementary budget for the fiscal year.

The Speaker of the House , Prince Adewale Egbedun read the four letters received from the Governor, during plenary to include, Request for approval of the 2023 supplementary budget and reallocation and redistribution of 30 billion Naira , Creation of Ministry of Energy, Osun State Urban &Rural Access road Authority and Osun State Road Funds board & Administration.

Prince Egbedun noted that, following the content of the letter sent by the Governor Adeleke, the supplementary budget became imperative in order to augment the exiting138 billion naira budget size to 168 billion naira for the fiscal year.

The Speaker thereafter, handed over the document to the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Mr. Saheed Fatunmise for further legislative procedures and process.

In another development, the Osun State House of Assembly Service Commission Establishment Amendment no 3 bill has been passed into law.

The bill was passed with a motion adopted by the Majority Leader, Mr. Babajide Kofoworola and seconded by Chief Whip Mr. Olawale Akerele .

The Speaker noted that the bill was necessary and ordered that the bill be forwarded to Governor Ademola Adeleke for assent.

Also a private member sponsored bill was received from Member representing Ife , Mr. Lawrence Adeoti seeking for the review of Osun New Towns & Growth Areas Development Authority review bill 2023 which consequently passed first reading at the plenary.

In a similar view, the Osun State Geographic Information Service Bill, Osun State Multi Door Court Establishment bill and Osun State High Court & Customary Court of Appeal Registrar, Secretary to Osun State Judiciary Service Commission, Solicitor General, Osun State Ministry of Justice, State Magistrate and District Customary President Retirement Age bill 2023 scaled through their first reading.

Also under personal explanation, the Majority Leader, Mr. Babajide Kofoworola brought to the notice the demise of PDP Chieftain Alhaji Jimoh Oyekanmi from Ede who departed recently.

He described the deceased as pillar to rest on in Osun politics.

The House of Assembly observed a minute silent to honor the late politician.

Osun State Government says all the relevant agencies will be fully involved in the planning and execution of the population census in the state to ensure its success.

The Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye stated this at the inauguration of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Population and Housing Census at the Exco Lounge, Governor’s Office, Abere, Osogbo.

Alhaji Igbalaye who noted that Osun State was under-represented in the figures published for the 1991 National Population Census said the committee was put together to ensure that facts and figures about the state are correctly compiled during the next census.

He pointed out that information on the size, distribution, and characteristics of a country’s population are essential for describing and assessing its economic, social, and demographic circumstances as well as for developing sound policies and programmes aimed at fostering the welfare of a country and its population.

Alhaji Igbalaye, therefore, directed the committee to map out appropriate sensitization and mobilization strategies for the activities of the National Population and Housing Census Exercise, to organize advocacy and sensitization programmes for local government functionaries, the media, and NGOs, on population and related issues.

He also urged the committee to regularly liaise with the National Population Commission in the state with a view to fashioning out strategies for an effective and acceptable population census.

In his remark, the Statistician General, Bureau of Statistics, Osun State, Mr Abiodun Ijidele said the committee would organize meetings with community heads to ensure that there are no intra- and inter-boundary disputes which may affect the census exercise.

Mr. Ijidele who is also the secretary of the committee advised Osun people not to leave their place of residence in order to be counted in their home towns.

The Osun State Government says the alleged withdrawal of security personnel from Governor Ademola Adeleke has nothing to do with the Governor according to some reports.

A statement by the Spokesperson to the Governor, Mallam Olawale Rasheed clarify that the issue is a minor disagreement between officers of the Department of State Service and the Police. 

The statement indicates that the matter has been reported to the headquarters of the two security agencies for resolution.

While assuring members of the public that there is no cause for alarm, the statement adds that the Governor is fully secured and governance is proceeding without hindrance.

It would be recalled that there was a report by some online media about the Authority of DSS directing the Withdrawal of their officers from the Governor for alleging that they were insulted by the Governor.

Osun state government has Inaugurated six garbage compactor trucks for the purpose of keeping the environment clean and healthy for living.

Presenting the trucks on behalf of the state governor at the government house Osogbo, Secretary to the state government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji said the step became imperative for the benefit of the citizenry.

Governor Oyetola also presented 39 buses to commercial drivers’ unions in Osun, the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, and Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN.

Governor Oyetola said the presentation was in fulfilment of his promises to the unions.

He urged beneficiaries to use the buses judiciously so as to achieve the intention which is to boost their economy.

In their words, Treasurer, NURTW, Mr Sowo Gabriel and Secretary, RTEAN, Chief Babatunde Oyeyemi thanked the state government for fulfilling its promises to the unions.

Osun State Government has pledged to create strong ties between her and the National Youth Service Corps to achieve more success in the area of cultural promotion. 

The supervising Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr Olalekan Badmus made the pledge in Osogbo during a courtesy visit by the new State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Osun State Chapter, Mrs Olayinka Abdulwahab and the management of the agency.

He noted that both the State Government and NYSC had been working together to promote Yoruba Culture from time immemorial in order to foster unity among serving corps members.

Mr Badmus also acknowledged that Governor Oyetola loved culture, hence the setting aside of a day to celebrate the “Isese Festival” every year. 

Earlier, the new NYSC State Coordinator, Osun State Chapter, Mrs Olayinka Abdulwahab expressed delight at the opportunity to serve in Osun and expressed readiness to join hands with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to promote Culture in the State.

In a remark the Coordinating Director in the Ministry, Mrs Solabomi Akinsola appreciated NYSC, Osun Chapter for her efforts in sustaining Culture and Tourism in the state.

She expressed the hope that the harmonious working relationship would continue to wax stronger and stronger.

Osun State Government has condemned in strong terms the killing of the Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Atakumosa East Central Local Government of the state, Chief Gbenga Ogbara.

The government also sympathised with the family of the late APC chairman, assuring them that it had charged security operatives to fish out the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.

The condemnation and condolences are contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, Mr Ismail Omipidan.

The Government further noted that the probe would help to prevent future occurrences and ensure that those responsible were decisively dealt with.

It counselled residents and citizens not to take the laws into their own hands, as security operatives had been mandated to beef up security around the area.

The statement adds that the government had also visited the family of the late Abiola Afolabi, who was allegedly killed by the police to condole them and assure them that their son would not die in vain, as Government would get to the root of his murder.

According to the statement, the Government’s delegation to the family of the late Abiola Afolabi which was led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Mrs Abiodun Ige, assured the family of the Government’s interest in unravelling the circumstances surrounding his killing.

The Advocacy Steering Committee of the Disability Inclusion wants the Osun State Government to reconstruct hospitals and office buildings in the Ministry of Health for easy accessibility by Persons with Disability.

They made the call during an advocacy meeting with the Commissioner for Health, Dr Rafiu Usamotu in Oshogbo.

The Coordinator of the Disability Inclusion Project in Osun State, Mr Kehinde Ogunbiyitan said the committee during infrastructure accessibility audit to selected hospitals and Ministry of Health office building, noted that the infrastructures were not accessible for Persons with Disabilities.

Mr Ogunbiyitan advised that a permanent or temporary ramp be put in place for easy movement for people using wheelchairs as well as engaging the service of sign language interpreters in hospitals for deaf people.

Also speaking, the General Secretary, JONAPWD, Mr Joseph Ogunniran appealed to the state government to include Persons with Disabilities in their intervention programmes.

In his remark, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Rafiu Usamotu assured that the Ministry is ready to partner with the committee to make life easier for Persons with Disabilities.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr Kayode Adegoke, the commissioner said the ministry would take the necessary steps to work on the recommendations of the committee.

It will be recalled that Disability Inclusion Project was to influence policies and programmes in Osun State towards improving access to quality education, health and justice system in government agencies for the benefit of Persons with Disabilities in Osun State.

Osun State clerics want political players in the state to be peaceful in their conduct as the state prepares for the 2022 Governorship election.

They stated this in their messages at an inter-religious prayer program organised by the state government to usher in public service in the New Year.

Osun State Governor, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola says building a sustainably prosperous state requires strategic investment in young people in a manner that prepares them for the reality of the keenly competitive global knowledge economy.

He stated this at the Grand Finale of the second edition of the “Osun Independence Essay Competition”, organized by the Osun State Government to commemorate the 61st Independence Anniversary of the country.

Mr. Oyetola described the concern as the motivation behind organising the Independence Day Essay Competition by the Osun State Government.

Represented by his Deputy, Mr. Benedict Alabi, the governor charged young persons to always be competition-ready and be imaginative as active producers of relevant ideas for nation-building.

Governor Oyetola maintained that the goal of a functional education was the deliberate training of the mind to acquire the requisite capacity to provide workable solutions to societal challenges.

In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Regional Integration and Special Duties, Mr. Lekan Badmus appreciated the state governor for approving the 2021 Osun State Essay Competition among students of secondary and tertiary schools as part of the activities lined up to mark the 61st year of Independence of Nigeria.

Mr. Badmus told the gathering that the essay committee comprised of interdisciplinary professionals received 700 entries of students from 34 schools of both private and public higher institutions across the country. 

He explained that the competition was a paradigm shift from the traditional Independence March-Past to promote the reading and writing culture among students which is capable of encouraging healthy rivalry as well as intellectual competition in secondary and tertiary institutions. 

In a keynote address, the Chairman of the event, the former Chief of Policy and Plans of the Nigerian Army, Lieutenant General Lamidi Adeosun (rtd), gave kudos to the Osun State government for the initiative in a world where negative activities had become the norm.

General Adeosun charged participants and the teeming youth population of the state not to relent in their efforts in contributing their quota to the development of the society, adding that education, security, and other developmental needs of the nation, are a collective responsibility.

He recommended the teaching of family values and ideals as key to rebuilding the weak security architecture of the nation, maintaining that security is not only a top-down affair but also has a bottom-up dimension that requires citizens’ vigilance and responsibility.

Miss Abisola Faith Adegboyega from Fakunle Comprehensive High School, Osogbo, emerged as the winner in the secondary school category, while Mr. Victor Ayodeji Adeyemo, a medical student from Bowen University won the tertiary institution category.

The winners for the tertiary category, aside from cash prizes, also went home with a Toyota Corolla car.

The Osun State Government has condoled with the families of police officers killed by armed robbers in Iragbiji on Tuesday.

Speaking during the commiseration visits to the family members of the deceased, the Special Adviser to Governor Adegboyega Oyetola on Security, Mrs. Abiodun Ige, expressed the heartfelt condolences of the governor and the Osun State Government to the families of the deceased.

Mrs. Ige, who led the delegation on the visit to Iragbiji and Osogbo where the families of the deceased reside, described the incident as most unfortunate and disheartening.

She said the administration would continue to do the needful to guarantee the security of the people and ensure safety for all.

It would be recalled that on Tuesday, some armed robbers attacked a commercial bank and Police Divisional Headquarters in Iragbiji, the headquarters of Boripe Local Government Area of the State, leaving two police officers dead.

The two officers that lost their lives to the ugly incident are Inspector Adebiyi Hammed and Inspector Odeyemi Ayinla.

The Osun State Government says wearing of Adire by civil servants to offices on Thursday is to boost the image of the state as an indigenous product inclined and culturally correct community.

The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Doctor Adebisi Obawale who stated this in a chat with newsmen in Osogbo, also stated the resolve of the present administration to project the culture of the people to draw global attention and generate additional revenue.

He described the recent inauguration and mass production of “Adire Osun” as a giant stride towards diversifying the economy and creating jobs by the government.

Doctor Obawale announced that the government planned to celebrate this year’s World Tourism Day low- key at one of the tourists’ sites in the state to showcase the contributions of the tourism sector towards attaining the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs.

Osun State Government says, increase in the prices of food items will not affect the quality of food components it is offering to vulnerable citizens through the Osun Food Support Scheme.

A statement by the Commissioner for Regional Integration and Special Duties, Mr. Olalekan Badmus says the government is aware that the prices of food items has significantly increased compared to when the scheme was flagged off on April 1, 2020.

Mr. Badmus who chairs the scheme assured that the state would continue to feed 30,000 poor and vulnerable citizens across all the local governments of the state.

He said the programme was a well-thought-out initiative of the state governor, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, to identify with the less-privileged, those who are challenged and those who do not have.

The commissioner said 150,000 people had so far benefitted from the scheme, and another 30,000 would benefit from the current phase of the programme.

He added that the government was looking at the possibility of adding other components like wheat to the regular rice and semovita that had been alternated over the previous editions.

The Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, has received the Economic and Fiscal Update, Fiscal Strategy Paper and Budget Policy Statement from the Governor, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola.

The Speaker, Mr. Timothy Owoeye during the Plenary, explained that the paper is a review of the last budget performance of the state.

He noted that the paper would provide information on budget process for year 2022 to year 2024.

While commending the lawmakers’ performance at the last budget retreat, the speaker urged his colleagues to make use of knowledge acquired during the retreat to prepare for the forthcoming year’s budget.

He said the fiscal paper was in compliance with Appropriation Law of 2012 which mandated the Ministry of Finance to do the midterm review of budget in the fiscal year.

Mr. Owoeye urged the lawmakers to study the paper and come up with the needful points to work on during the next deliberation.

He then committed the paper to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation to give the House full report on the paper.

Osun State government has distributed 100,000 cocoa seedlings to about 1,000 farmers in the state.

The state government also distributed agro-chemicals, hand-spraying tools, limes and other farm inputs to about 1,000 farmers across the all the Local Government Areas.

The government also inaugurated Osun Broilers Outgrowers Production Scheme III (OBOPS) to enhance livestock production capacity.

Speaking during the event at the Agriculture Demonstration Centre, Aisu, in Ede South Local Government Area of the State, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola said government’s efforts were geared towards repositioning agriculture and making Osun State the food basket of the nation in general and in the Southwest in particular.

He added that the initiative was designed to support farmers and cushion the effects of the erratic weather that occurred last year, which resulted in prolonged drought and flooding in different parts of the state.

Governor Oyetola hinted that approval had been given for the establishment of 10,000 hectares of farmland to be used as a farm settlement at F3 in Ife-South Local Government in which 400 hectares of the farmland had been cleared to empower one thousand (1,000) youths in the cultivation of arable crops, while 23 hectares of farmland was cleared at Ifon, in Orolu Local Government as a Demonstration Site for youths and women empowerment and agro processing centres.

The governor further emphasized that the initiative would support the systematic replacement of the existing old cocoa plantations and other permanent crops with improved high-yielding varieties to make Osun the largest cocoa producer in the Southwestern part of Nigeria.

Farmers in each of the Local Government Area across the state got 1,500 cocoa seedlings with priority given to the cocoa producing local government areas of the state.

In a remark, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Dayo Adewole, assured that the state government would be supplying farmers with buds, day-old chicks and feeds so as to aid them in launching the scheme in their respective domains.

Also speaking, the Chairman of All Farmers Association of Nigeria, AFAN, Osun State Chapter, Alhaji Sulaiman Araokanmi, commended the prompt intervention of government to revamp agriculture in the state.

Some of the beneficiaries of the farm input distributed by the government who expressed delight, lauded the kind gesture extended to them by the Oyetola-led administration.

Also some of the direct beneficiaries of the cocoa intervention programmes, Mr. Omoloye Akanmu, Mr. Rabiu Omowole; Alhaji Adesanya Aderemi; Mrs. Christiana Ogunsaya; Alhaja Asifat Bukola and Mr. Adedayo Kayode, said the initiative would go a long way to rekindle their hope in the survival and viability of agribusiness in the state.

Osun State Government is to commence massive enumeration and headcount of herders and migrants in the State.
The State Government said this would be done through data capturing to enhance proper profiling of herders residing in the State as part of efforts to strengthen cordial relationship and peaceful co-existence between the Fulani/Bororo herders and Yoruba crop farmers.
This was the outcome of a  meeting convened by the leadership of the State Committee on Peaceful Co-existence Between Fulani/Bororo farmers and Crop Farmers held with the heads of Fulanis and Bororos known as “Serikis” at the Conference Hall, State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, State Government Secretariat, Abere, Osogbo.
Addressing journalists shortly after the meeting, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Mudasiru Toogun, said the decision was necessary as part of efforts to update the statistics and data of migrants living in the State.
He said the initiative would help to determine the population of the migrants so as to prevent any form of security threat that might arise from unchecked influx of herdsmen.
Alhani Toogun said the initiative would further help to give the government an insight into necessary infrastructure required to support the Fulani and Bororo immigrants living in the State.
The Chairman of the Committee who applauded the participants who were largely heads of Fulanis and Bororos said the Administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola would leave no stone unturned to ensure peaceful cohabitation between Yoruba farmers and Fulani/Bororo herders.

The Osun State Government has shut down Inisha Town Central Mosque in Odo-Otin Local Government Area over the crisis surrounding the installation of a new Chief Imam. 

The state government noted it has banned all activities and any central congregation at the Mosque for Eid prayers. 

According report from the community, a traditional chief, Eesa of Inisha, Chief Enoch Ajiboso, slumped and died on 20th December 2020 at the palace while settling a dispute between two parties who were contending for the position of Chief Imam of the community. 

A statement by the Osun State Government, signed by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr Adeyanju Binuyo, states that the decision was reached following the inability of the Muslim Community of the town to peacefully install a new Imam for the mosque.

The statement notes that the Mosque has recorded the death of two Imams in quick succession, adding that, as part of efforts to ensure the security of lives and properties in that axis of the state, the Governor directs that the Central Mosque be shut indefinitely to forestall religious or communal crisis. 

Security operatives have been deployed to the town to enforce the closure and ban on Eid Prayers.

The directive will be in place until the reconciliation process towards amicable resolution is concluded.

The Osun State Government says the healthy living of its people is paramount; therefore, his decision to rid the state of rabies infected pets.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Adedayo Adewole stated this at the flag off of 2021 Free Anti Rabies Programme in Oshogbo.

Mr. Adewole urged pet owners in the state to take them for routine vaccination against rabies so as to get rid of the disease and its deadly effects on people.

While appreciating the Federal Government for its support in giving 3,500 doses of Anti-Rabies Vaccines to the state, the commissioner expressed concern over the rising cases of rabies in Nigeria.

He, however, stressed that the state government would not leave any stone unturned in providing funds for the procurement of more drugs to fight the menace of rabies across the state.

He said veterinary doctors would be moving round the state, especially the rural areas for the next four weeks to get pets such as dogs, cats, monkeys and bats among others vaccinated free of charge.

Adewole therefore advised pet owners, especially dogs to take advantage of the situation by taking them to the nearby veterinary clinics for routine vaccination free of charge.

In his remark, the Director of Veterinary and Pest Control Services, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Olaniran Alabi said through mass vaccination and enlightenment campaigns, the scourge of rabies will become minimal in Nigeria.

The Director, who was represented by Dr. Mathias Bisong noted that dogs accounted for 99% of human deaths arising from the incidents of rabies attack, and described rabies as one of the priority trans-boundary animal diseases which has remained endemic in Nigeria since it was first reported in 1912.

Osun State governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola says his administration has adopted a proactive strategy to stimulate the economy of the state in the face of Coronavirus pandemic.

Governor Oyetola stated this in Osogbo while presenting cash as seed loans to two thousand successful trainees of Skills Upgrade and Entrepreneurship Training Programme.

He said the Skills Upgrade and Entrepreneurship Training Programme was designed to generate 15,000 direct and indirect sustainable job opportunities for the people annually.

Governor Oyetola explained that the administration had set aside one hundred Million naira for disbursement to beneficiaries of the scheme, as seed loans of one hundred thousand naira was given to each participant.

He urged the beneficiaries to utilise the skills and knowledge acquired in the course of the programme positively to add value to themselves and to enable them to compete favourably in the industrial and commercial sectors.

In a remark, Osun State Commissioner for Commerce, Industries, Cooperatives and Empowerment, Dr. Bode Olaonipekun, said the programme was put together by the government as part of efforts to address the adverse effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and ameliorate the disruptions to livelihood of the citizens.

Executive Director, Micro Enterprise, Bank of Industry, Mrs. Toyin Adeniji, commended the Administration of Governor Oyetola for building a virile and healthy economy for the state.

Some of the graduands commended government for the gesture saying it would go a long way to improve their lives.

Osun State Government is set to commence the construction of the Olaiya flyover with a three-hour demonstration closure between 2pm and 5pm on Friday January 29, 2021.

In a statement by the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr Remi Omowaiye, the construction areas would be closed for three hours on Friday, January 29, as part of the protocols for the commencement of the construction.

He stated that the closure was a demo closure, which will last for only three hours.

Mr omowaye noted that the roads around the construction area would be closed between 2:00pm and 5:00pm, as a form of trial-performance for traffic control during the period of the construction.

He hinted that one hundred and ten officers from the Federal Road Safety Corps, Civil Defence Corps, the Police Force and the state’s O’Tram officers would be strategically positioned along the diversion routes and critical locations like Okefia, Olaiya, New Orisunmbare market area, Jaleyemi, Aregbe, Akindeko and Akinlade junctions, Capital, Lamido, to ensure compliance and orderliness.

The commissioner enjoined citizens to cooperate with the security and traffic management apparatuses during this exercise, as outcomes of this exercise would form baseline to subsequent traffic management routines during the period of the construction.

It will be recalled that government had earlier announced its intention to construct a flyover across the Fakunle-Olaiya, Odi Olowo-Olaiya, Akindeko-Olaiya and MDS-Olaiya intersections as part of measures to address traffic and safety issues in the axis.

The governor of Osun State, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, has approved the release of Seven Hundred and Eight Million Naira, 708,000,000 to offset pension arrears of retired officers of Osun State civil service.

In a press release signed by the Head of Service, Mr Festus Olowogboyega Oyebade, the sum of Five Hundred and Eight Million Naira of the total sum was approved to pay the pensions of retired civil servants while one hundred and fifty million Naira was approved to pay retirees under the contributory pensions scheme based on merit.

According to the release, additional fifty Million Naira was approved for the part payment of the gratuities of retired officers under the old pensions scheme.

The release says the list of beneficiaries selected on merit has been pasted on the notice boards of the Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation, the State’s Pension Bureau, and the Office of the Head of Service.

It is also stated that payment of the approved funds will commence Thursday, 5th November 2020.
