The Oyo State House of Assembly has appealed to the state Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde to release ₦500 million to the Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, as promised in 2024.

‎The House also urged the governor to include the university in the payment of monthly subvention from January 2026 to sustain its operations.

‎The appeals were contained in a motion moved by lawmaker representing Ibadan South West state constituency 2, Mr. Oluwafemi Fowokanmi.

‎Also speaking on the motion, the lawmaker representing Egbeda state constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Sunkanmi Babalola, appreciated the efforts of the present administration on the university in terms of road network, perimeter fence and street lights, which he said have contributed to its physical outlook.

‎Passing the resolutions, the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr. Adebo Ogundoyin, granted the request by the mover of the motion to allow the House Committee on Tertiary Education to meet with the management of the university.

Tertiary institutions have been challenged to come up with research proposals on innovations that would reduce the burden of poverty in Nigeria

Speakers at the experiment of Nutri-Active baby food, locally produced through a Tetfund research grant at the University of Ibadan threw the challenge in their various speeches at the event.

The Tetfund principal investigator of the intervention project, Professor Kuta Yahaya, said the initiative aimed to reduce malnutrition, poverty and child mortality in Nigeria.

Professor Yahaya noted that with the introduction of NutriActive Baby food, mothers can now feed their babies wholesome and nutritious food without breaking the bank on imported foods.

The Director General of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Dr. Mohammed Bulama, in a keynote address, said the intervention project was apt in tackling the escalating cost of children’s upbringing, noting that the early years of life were pivotal in shaping the health, growth and development of the Nigerian child.

Represented by the Zonal Director, Radio Nigeria, Ibadan Zonal Station, Mr. Dominic Mokikan, Dr. Bulama urged adults to eat right to prolong their life expectancy.

Our correspondent, Dayo Adu reports that the Nutriactive baby food is a complementary food for infants, an intervention project of the research team from the Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, University of Ibadan.

The baby food is formulated through the combination of plant-based local grains with 23 nutrients capable of enhancing the rapid development of babies from six to twenty-four months displayed in different combinations of rice, soya beans, orange, fresh potato, banana and dates with no preservatives and additives.

The infants accepted the food, prepared and tested on babies by their mothers at the maternity unit of the University of Ibadan Health Services.

Two mothers, who relayed their experiences while feeding their babies with the food, lauded the initiative by the University’s research team.

Earlier in his speech, while unveiling the Nutriactive baby food, the Vice Chancellor, of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, of Administration, Professor Peter Olapegba stated that the university was focusing its research on solving national multi-sectoral problems, calling on the government to invest in the mass production of the baby food for local consumption and export purposes.

Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFUND has advocated problem solving research that would facilitate social economic development in the country.
The Executive Secretary of TETFUND, Professor Suleiman Bogoro, stated this while delivering the first annual lecture of Institute Of Agricultural, Research And Training, I,A,R and T at the Institute, Ibadan.
Professor Bogoro explained that research should not be undertaken for the mere purpose of gaining promotion as this would be counter productive.
Professor Bogoro noted that unhealthy relationships that existed between departments in the universities and research institutes had not enhanced the desired development.
He therefore called for a strong relationship between research institutes and related departments in the universities.
In her wellcome address, the Director, Institute Of Agricultural, Research And Training, I,A,R And T, Professor Veronica Obatolu said unemployment among youths had become alarming in the country saying the institute had not been able to impact the youths through requisite entrepreural training due to paucity of fund with which to acquire training facilities at the institute.
The Vice Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University, who is also the Board Chairman OF The Research Institute, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede and two former vice chancellors of university of Ibadan, Professors Olufemi Bamiro And Isaac Adewole commended the lecturer saying the lecture was an eye opener in the nations agricultural sector.
Institute Of Agricultural, Research And Training, I,A,R and T is an affiliate of obafemi awolowo university established in 1969 with the mandate of conduct agricultural research and training.

News Analysis

I have a privilege of relating with appreciable number of ethnic groups in Nigeria by virtue of living in Federal Capital Territory,  FCT for close to 20 years and 15 years experience  as a union leader in the same Capital of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

I have observed people of other climes , tribes and ethnic origins send their  relatively young men to pick their opportunities *while the elders stay behind to give inspiration especially the Northerners*.

Looking at the National Assembly, the Northerners send people between *40 and 55* of age as  Senators and members of House of Representatives  while we in particular from the Southwest have people of the same  age bracket as Personal Assistants,, PAs and legislative aides.

A co-Senator of 40 to 55 years will relate with our Babas as colleagues and we will be stopped and cowed down from even contributing in a town hall meeting organised by our own Senators of 60 to 70+ age bracket.

The reason the North representatives stand tall oozing with speed, vibrancy and energy advancing the cause of their people is because they have active set of people in place and the reason our people at this side of the country get tired after one hour marathon meeting is due to the aged ones representing us.

It will be recalled that Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardauna of Sokoto sent younger Tafawa Balewa to Lagos as Prime Minister and stood behind as Premier to strategize.

Coming to strategic placement, in all juicy appointments capable of making many young people  powerful and rich individuals, the North push the young elements of 30+ and 40+ while the elders therefore stay behind as the big man behind the contracts.

Their products spread over NNPC, FIRS, TETFUND, PTF, PPR, OAGF, NCR, MARITIME among others while our people are busy with customised regalia looking for a small space for their children alone.

The North *facilitate juicy contracts for their young elements and shoot them into stupendous wealth within shortest possible time*.

This is the way it works. He is on allowance or salary as a student from at least Area council, after graduation, he gets a juicy placement or mouth watering contracts , thereafter he suspends his job( not necessarily resigning) to pick up political appointment  after which he may contest election and may never go back to salary job.

I have met a good number of them in the cause of my service at FCT and the story continues.

A close  colleague of mine  who respects me so much was made  Secretary of Suleja Area Council from classroom  for 4 years and today a strong chieftain of APC in that emirate.

He has come back to his job and still very active in politics of the noble emirate.

In our clime, young people suffered through school and especially the brilliants are frustrated with no job and eventually become a useful tool in the hand of our own gerontocractic political leadership who use them for as low as *protocol officers arranging campus girls* for political gladiators😢

I have known *graduates of 15 or more years in Oyo state still scrambling for miserable crumbs looking at close to 50 years*.

This is a deliberate eclipse of a generation but *sadly my generation seems to be comfortable defending the reason for their miserable and unfortunate situation as PA media and SA mobilisation* 😢

In Kaduna State for instance , under 40 are presently Director Generals and Heads of boards and parastatals.

We all saw the current EFCC boss with rich CV at the age of 40. We also saw one AHMED , age 40 recently posted as jostling for National Chairmanship of APC.

If  that succeeds, our elders who felt agitated and deploy bully dogs when we asked questions will go and bend to make a request from a 40 years old chairman of a national party.

*They do that a lot in Abuja only to keep people of same age bracket here bullied, abused, bruised and caged.*

This is what the  North  with a clear succession plan did for people of our age bracket. I rest the case here for a moment to make us REFLECT.

Economy

The House of Representatives has commenced an investigation into the activities of Federal Government Social Investment Programmes in Ekiti State.

Chairman of the House Public Accounts Sub-Committee, Mr Taofeek Ajilesoro who represents Ife Central North South Federal Constituency told newsmen in Ado Ekiti that the action was not to witch-hunt any personnel but to check their records for proper documentation.

The lawmaker said the committee would visit also the institutions assisted with Federal Government/TETFUND intervention to see how such funds were being spent on projects that could have a direct impact on the students.

Answering questions on time frame for the investigation, Mr Ajilesoro noted that the agencies and institutions involved were properly notified contrary to speculations that they were caught unaware.

He however expressed the committee concern over the inconsistency in some of the reports presented to it by the concerned agencies and asked them to put their house in order.

The four member sub-committee during its first session in Ado Ekiti scrutinized some Federal Government intervention schemes being executed in Ekiti State such as N-power, Conditional Cash Transfer and Home Grown school Feeding Programme.
