The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, and Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi has called for a system of proportional representation that would allow both electoral losers and winners to collaborate and form government in the interest of the people.

He stated this while speaking as the special guest of honour at the inauguration ceremony of the 7.2km Idi-Ape-Bashorun-Akobo-Odogbo Barracks road dualization project and flyover at General Gas, Ibadan executed by the Oyo State government.

The chairman of NGF commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his purposeful leadership.

In his address, Governor Seyi Makinde acknowledged that the project was a promise kept and would improve economic activities within the axis.

Governor Makinde said attention would also be given to deplorable inner city roads at rehabilitating roads within the council areas.

…Confirms Fixing Challenges

The Oyo State Government has hinged the delay in the outcome of workers’ audit and verification on the failure of about 12, 000 workers in the State Civil service to participate in the exercise.

Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, who made the disclosure in Ibadan, also confirmed that the State Government has mandated the yet-to-be registered workers to do so in earnest.

He stressed the commitment of Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration to establish a comprehensive database and proper identity management system that would aid effective payment and verification of its workforce.

He said, “despite critics castigating the registration and verification of its workforce, the Oyo State Government has expressed continued commitment to the entire civil service”.

Dr. Olatubosun insisted that after completion, the registration will block every loophole in the state civil service and guard against the menace of ghost workers.

Olatubosun who confirmed that the process started over a year ago, expressed displeasure over the insinuation that the exercise was a scam, saying such rumour was made without facts.

He announced that having completed the process, the State Government will fish out ghost workers and ascertain the number of workers and retirees on the government payroll.

“Except for the unfounded insinuations from some quarters, the Oyo State Government is encouraged by the response of citizens, residents, and workers to the ongoing exercise. Many Civil servants have registered so far and those who are yet to, have been given the opportunity to. In the workforce, this will block so many loopholes’ Olatubosun stated.

‘I am aware that new registrants are at the ICT office, participating in the audit exercise for workers’, he stated.

“With the development, civil servants, public officials, teachers, local government employees and retirees have been screened in phases during the exercise that commenced over a year ago at the state secretariat in Ibadan”.

Dr. Olatubosun said the exercise which is aimed at ascertaining the people drawing money from the government’s coffers, added that the exercise was not basically about verification of certificates, but for the government to curb wastage, plug leakages in its payroll and have valid data for planning.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has settled the long-standing legal battle over occupancy of Temidire Saw-millers Plank Market between the State government and the Saw-millers.

The parties signed legal documents in agreement with terms to settle the crisis amicably.

Governor Seyi Makinde, who was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye said the government has been able to resolve the matter on terms that were favorable to all parties.

Temidire plank market, which is close to the popular Gbagi Market was to be turned into a modern market by the previous administrations in the State, as there were reports of environmental hazards posed by the operations at the sawmill, which made the last administration of late Governor Abiola Ajimobi forcefully evict the traders.

The step led to litigations, as some of the traders moved to another location provided for a new plank market while some decided to stay put and pursue the legal option.

Olaleye said “that location used to be occupied by Saw-millers at Temidire near Gbagi market, so the government of Oyo State in 2012 decided to have a very big market there and also relocate the Saw-millers to Fasade community with some provisions made for them, but while some people moved, some refused to move, so there was a dispute, they filed cases against government in court, series of court cases and orders.

“So since 2012, the contractor has not been able to complete that project, the government has been engaging them in the last six (6) months and today we have been able to resolve on terms that are favorable to all parties.

“We believe that with this, the project can now proceed to the next stage for the benefit of the people of Oyo State and also that the Saw-millers can now resettle wherever they want to be.”

Governor Makinde assured that the Temidire business complex will soon be completed and that the next stage is for the contractor to engage with the government on terms that are favorable to the government and the people of Oyo State.

The General Secretary, Temidire Saw-millers Plank Market Association, Mr Adeyemo Adeniyi who is also one of the claimants also affirmed that the body has settled with the government.

“We have been on this issue since 2012, we thank God that today we are here to sign the agreement that will enable us to continue our business in other locations.

“We are not forced to sign the documents with the government, it was done after due consultation and agreement to terms,” Adeniyi said.

The developer of Temidire Business Complex, Mr Oyebola Okusanya appreciated the State government for bringing all the parties together and for mutual agreement to be achieved.

He explained that the developer had a public-private partnership with the last administration in the year 2014 with an agreement to develop the business complex.

He added that some of the occupants moved to the other site at Fasade while some refused to leave.

He also assured that the project will soon be completed, adding that the company also engaged the Saw-millers through the patronage of their goods to build the market.

He went further to commend the laudable infrastructural and developmental projects in the State, adding that Oyo State has become the Mecca of investors because of the enabling environment provided by the Seyi Makinde-led government.

Among the facilities available use by passengers and drivers at the terminal are water treatment plant, restaurant, bar, loading bay, clinic, information desk, passengers’ relaxation floor among other facilities.

But for the loading bay, power plant, relaxation centre, toilet and the general platform, other facilities such as the clinic, restaurants, and bar are not functional.

The story is the same at the Challenge Bus Terminus

While the structure of the terminal according to some traders had beautified the immediate environment, enhance economic activities, the sudden disappearance of other micro inter state parks had reduced the patronage of customers.
