Also speaking with Radio Nigeria, another resident, of Ido in Ilesa East Local Government, who identified herself as Iya Aduragbemi appreciated the donours for the gesture, saying she was spared money spent on buying malaria drug almost every two months.

In her own remark, a trader in Oke Omiru area of Ilesa West, Mrs Julianah Oluwayomi explained that before the net she used to buy insecticide every two weeks, and sometimes resorted to burning of orange pills as mosquito repellant.

However, Mrs Yemisi Bamigbose, who also received the treated net, appealed to the donours to make more available as one was not enough for any household that had more than two children, since one net could only cover a bed.

Radio Nigeria correspondent, who monitored the distribution, spoke with some medical workers.

One of them, Dr Femi Aina of the UniOsun Teaching Hospital remarked that the distribution would go a long way in relieving the people of constant visits to hospitals.

“Malaria is the commonest health challenge around here. Sometimes, the number of patients could overwhelm medical workers, particularly at government facilities. I am confident that given the huge number of people given these nets; if they can use it judiciously, it would drastically reduce the problem of malaria”.

Speaking shortly after assenting to the law, Governor Oyetola reiterated the fact that the decision of the government to upgrade the College to a university was “not a product of fanciful effort”.

He said the proposed university had been carefully conceived as a thoroughly entrepreneurial and innovative institution to be co-funded by many sources.

“The proposed university has been carefully conceived as a thoroughly entrepreneurial and innovative institution that would be funded through a mix of sources such as the government, community, industry, and other stakeholders without exerting unnecessary pressure on the finances of the state.

While receiving copies of the University Establishment Law from the Governor, Speaker, Osun House of Assembly, Mr Timothy Owoeye, noted that the signing of the bill into law is a new dawn in the entire Ijesa land in particular and the state in general.

“This is a huge development for Ijesa people and Osun State. This is what we have been clamouring for, for over 40 years. As a matter of fact, the College which was established in 1979 is more than 40 years now, and thinking to upgrade it to a full-fledged University is a welcome development. We commend and appreciate Mr Governor for his magnanimity and generosity to the Ijesa people”

“I want to assure you that the establishment of this University will attract a lot of developments and improve on the socioeconomic activities of Ijesa land; and by extension, it is going to turn Ilesa into a tourist centre as Ijesas home and abroad will come to support the government. I can assure you that the government will not regret upgrading the College to a University”.

The Chairman of the Implementation Committee of the proposed University, Professor Olu Aina, applauded the governor for the swift response, saying the signing will give the Committee enablement to continue to conclude the implementation process.

“The work is not yet completed. What we had today is the enablement for us to continue to conclude the work of implementation. I can see three major stages ahead of us.”

“First, the constitution of Governing Council and appointment of Principal Officers of the University, and secondly we will start work and, begin to recruit staff and finally we will open up the classrooms for academic activities.”

“With this, the government is opening up more opportunities for youths to have and access quality education. This is going to be the first university of its type in Nigeria to have a Public-Private-Partnership and the provision of quality education which will be vocation-orientated. We are all looking forward to it.”

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ilesa, Osun State has alleged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of using political hoodlums to turn Ilesa into a war zone ahead of the July 16 governorship election.

Some hoodlums had on Thursday morning invaded some wards across Ilesa-West local government area disrupting collection of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) and inflicting injuries on residents in the process.

Addressing journalists at the Ilesa-West APC secretariat on Friday, the Lawmaker Representing Ijesa-South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Lawrence Ayeni described the dastard act as an attempt to turn Ilesa to war zone and prevent residents and APC members from exercising their civic rights.

He said, “Ilesa on Thursday was a war zone. The PDP thugs prevented people from collecting their voters cards and also unleash mayhem on APC members in four wards of Ilesa-West local government. We have petitioned the police on the matter and we are waiting for the hoodlums, who are known faces to be investigated and prosecuted”.

Also, the Commissioner for Works and Transportation in the state, who is also party chieftain in Ilesa, Engineer Remi Omowaye said the hoodlums had shot into the convoy of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola on Wednesday before embarking disruption of PVC collection.

Some of our members injured during the mayhem, include ward 5 APC Chairman Mr. Olalekan Abiodun, the party’s youth leader, Abiola Olagunju, Opeyemi Oke, Wale Adeoye, Seyi Anjorin among others who were treated at government hospital.”

We are a law abiding government and will not engage in violence, hence, we called on all the security agencies in the country to call PDP to order and allow a credible electoral process in the state”, he said.

Reacting, Osun PDP Director of Media and Publicity, Mr Oladele Olabamiji described the allegations as laughable, saying the APC is only shedding crocodile tears.

You know APC for their behaviour. They are fond of shedding crocodile tears to cover up their evil act. It is not reasonable for an opposition whose strength lies in the people to now turn around against the same people that are collecting the PVC to vote for us. If we say we have confidence, it is the overwhelming support of the good people of Osun.”

“There is no other way they can show their support to us on election day than for them to have their PVC”, he said.

The legend of Otunba Olatunbosun Abe popularly known as ‘Hinpele O’ will linger for a long time in the history of Ijesaland because of the way he projected the dialect and promoted the unity of the land on the radio.

The provost of Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Diocese of Ilesa South, Cathedral Church of Holy Trinity, Omofe, Ilesa, Very Reverend Enitan Olajide stated this at the funeral service of the veteran presenter at the Cathedral.

Very reverend Olajide said Otunba Olatunbosun Abe was not just a freelancer but a public commentator who promoted cultural and moral values, as well as, unity among the people of Ijesaland through his dialectical program, ‘Hinpele o’.

Challenging the people in attendance to make a positive impact on their immediate and remote environments through their God-given talents, the provost remarked that the vacuum created by his death in the broadcast industry would be difficult to fill.

Very Reverend Olajide also emphasized that death was not a respecter of Fame, wealth or nobility, hence everybody should prepare for the inevitability.

Speaking on the person of his father, the first child, Funso Olatunbosun eulogized Hinpele o, saying he was an example of a good and industrious father who never coveted what belonged to others.

Also speaking the immediate younger brother to the late iconic broadcaster, Mr Kunle Olatunbosun described his brother as a frank talker who never pretended at all, but would rather say things the way they appeared to him.

Residents of Ile Ife in Osun State are seeking urgent Federal Government intervention on the completion of the major road in the town awarded over four years ago.

A drive from the main gate of the University through Lagere to Ilesa bye pass in Ile Ife would ordinarily takes about 12 minutes without traffic now takes between 35 to 40 minutes under same condition

A commercial driver in the town Mr. Ropo Elujoba who commutes students between Lagere and the Obafemi Awolowo University Campus daily complained of the damages done to his vehicle.

“I visit auto mechanic repairer workshop every weekends due to damages done to my vehicle. Every money I make is spent on fixing this bus”.

The comment of a lecturer at a private Polytechnic in the Ile Ife, Mr. Adesina Abubakar captures more vividly the experience of users as he explained that he often abandoned his car to join public transport to work daily

Mr. Abubakar described the road between OAU teaching hospital and the University as Federal Government facility which he said had been abandoned midway by the contractor.

Although, there is evidence of recent construction on the road, with some drainages and bridges completed, most especially around Seven days Adventist hospital, Mayfair and Lagere, but the work appeared abandoned.

Radio Nigeria met with the Federal controller of works in Osun State Mr Orisaleye Ayodeji who insisted that the project had not been abandoned, but the work was going on in a bit.

Mr. Ayodeji blamed the delay and slow pace of work on litigation arriving from issue of compensation for property owners along the axis.

Mr. Ayodeji stated that the matter was once settled out of court, until another stakeholders along the route went back to court, insisting on a particular module of compensation which must be paid before work continue on the road.

But if litigation is responsible for the slow pace in Ife axis of the road, what then could be responsible for that on the Osu axis?

Unfortunately, the contractor could not be located to provide answer to the question while motorists continue to groan under the poor state of the road.

The 22 kilometres Mayfair junction, Lagere, Iremo, Enuwa, Ilesa bypass road in Ile Ife had been awarded for dualization since year 2016.
