As the nation remembers the fallen heroes, the Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Oyo State Command, Mr Micheal Adaralewa has called on well-meaning Nigerians to always support the families left behind by the departed souls.

Mr Adaralewa stated this when he received Armed Forces Remembrance Planning Committee from the Ministry of Women Affairs and the Director of Social Welfare and Social Inclusion Oyo State.

He said, though, the government was doing its best to support the ex-servicemen and the families of fallen heroes but the public could also render assistance to them to live a good life.

The NSCDC boss, therefore, commended the committee for a job well done.

Earlier, the chairman of the committee, Mr Ayoade Adetayo from the Ministry of Women Affairs and Director of Social Welfare and Social Inclusion Oyo State commended the NSCDC for playing a vital role in the internal security of the state and also applauded the Command’s response to emergency calls in the state.

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has sympathized with the families of seven officers that were reportedly ambushed by bandits and killed on Monday at the Kuriga mining site in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The NSCDC Director of Public Relations, Olusola Odumosu, in a statement on Tuesday, said the officers were attached to the Kaduna State Ministry of Mines and were on official duty at the Kuriga mining site when the incident occurred.

Odumosu stated that rifles belonging to the slain officers were carted away by the assailants, adding that remains of the slain officers had been deposited at the Barau Diko hospital in Kaduna.

The statement partly read, “After the attack, the bandits carted away riffles of the slain operatives and the remains of the slain officers and men have been recovered and deposited at the Barau Diko Hospital Kaduna.”

In his message of commiseration to the families of the slain officers, the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Audi, described the incident as a big loss to the Corps, the families of the slain victims and the nation.

Audi also directed that the Corps’ flag should be hoisted at half-mast in honour of the fallen officers while calling for a national prayer at the Corps national headquarters in Abuja.

“In honour of the slain personnel, the CG has directed that the Corps’ flag be hoisted at half-mast and that a national prayer involving both Christians and Muslims be organised at the Corps National headquarters, Abuja, to pray for Gods protection for all officers and men of the Corps in the new year and avert a recurrence of such awful incident,” the statement added.

Crime

The Lagos Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, on Friday, confirmed the arrest of a 24-year-old suspect alleged to be a child rapist.

The suspect, Ridwan Akinbode, who hails from Oyo State and resides in the Bariga area of Lagos State was said to be arrested a week after a victim reported her experience to the Command.

It was gathered that the suspect was fond of luring his victims to an uncompleted building where he would perpetrate the crime.

Luck however ran out for him on Friday as operatives of the command’s Anti-Human Trafficking and Gender Unit nabbed him in his hideout in Bariga.

The corp’s commander, Eweka Okoro, in a statement released by the Public Relations Officer, Oluwaseun Abolurin, said the matter was reported to the gender unit last week after his victim was raped a second time.

The statement read in part, “The suspected paedophile was arrested following due diligence, credible and actionable intelligence taken on him by the command’s personnel since the matter was reported to the above-named unit last week.

“Preliminary investigations showed that the suspect first had carnal knowledge of his victim, aged 15, in an uncompleted building where he lured her two years ago. He made another attempt in October 2022 before he was finally arrested by our men.”

The command said it has partnered with the Women At Risk Medical International Foundation and other human rights and non-governmental groups to carry out medical examinations on the victim “in a bid to bring the culprit to book.”
