Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has called on Directors and Managers of private guard companies to abide by rules and regulations that guide their profession.

NSCDC Commandant in Oyo state, Dr Michael Adaralewa made the call while declaring open a one day capacity building for the private security personnel at its headquarters, Agodi, Ibadan. 

Dr Adaralewa said the training became imperative to update their knowledge on relevant subject matter in the security industry. 

He said the dynamics of security challenges world over and the peculiarity of the threat it poses, hence the need for continuous engagement with stakeholders in tackling insecurity. 

The Commandant, therefore, enjoined the participants to make use of the experiences gained at the gathering. 

“This is with a view to designing new mechanisms to mitigate threats. Consequently, such new information needs to be factored into training manuals and curriculum for capacity building programmes”. 

The NSCDC Act 2003 and 2007 (as amended) confer the mandate of registration, monitoring, supervision and training of private guard companies (PGCs) on the NSCDC in order to bring about orderliness and efficiency in the private security industry in Nigeria.” 

On his part, the Head of Department, Directors and Managers of private guard, NSCDC, Mr Oyeniyi Oyeku said overtime, private guard companies had made their marks in the sand of time by providing security solutions that guaranteed protection of lives, assets and infrastructure. 

He added that they had also contributed greatly to the attainment of peace and order in society, hence the need for training and retraining for the private security stakeholders in order to deliver professional security services to their different categories of clients. 

Mr Oyeku said that with the theme, “safety and security management for private security practitioners.

“It is apt to ensure that they get the best training from security professionals to update knowledge for improved performance. 

Contributing, the Chairman of the Association of l Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria, Mr Seyi Alabi said the training was timely as the society was facing myriad of security challenges.

Mr Alabi, therefore, called on all the participants to make use of the knowledge gathered from the workshop in a positive direction.
