The Economic and Financial Crime Control, EFCC, has arraigned an undergraduate Austin Onyekachukwu before a Federal High Court Osogbo, for impersonating a woman. 

The prosecutor, Mr Sulaeman Basheer, told the court that the defendant impersonated an American Lady, Lucy to gain advantage and thereby committed an offence. 

Mr Basheer alleged that the defendant committed the offence between August 2018 and June 2019 in Osogbo, Osun State. 

The defendant was also said to have had some documents in his possession, where he represented himself as Lucy, an American lady. 

Prosecution stated that the offence contravened the provision of Section 6 and punishable under section 1(3) of the Advanced Fee Fraud. 

Meanwhile, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the two count charges of impersonation and fraud preferred against him by the EFCC. 

His Counsel, Mr Olanrewaju Jayeoba, told the court that he was an undergraduate and pleaded with the court to grant him bail. 

Justice Emmanuel Ayoola, thereby granted him bail in the sum of ₦500,000 with one surety in like sum. 

Justice Ayoola said the father of the defendant should stand for him and produce him in court on Wednesday November 11, 2020 for trial. 

The judge also ordered the father of the defendant to depose to affidavit of means and sign undertaken.

Many properties were on Monday burnt down at a shopping complex located at Orita-Aje Street along Testing Ground area of Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

The fire which reportedly started at about noon lasted about 45 minutes before fire fighters were alerted.

One of the owners of the shops, Mr Saheed Akande said the fire started from one of the shops that were under lock where computer accessories were kept.

Mr Akande stated that but for the timely intervention of fire fighters, the whole 13-shop complex would have been completely razed.

In an interview, the Administrative Officer of the Osun Fire Fighters, Mr Fatai Aremu said the office responded promptly to a distress call by some owners of goods in the shops.

Mr Aremu explained that only four of the shops were completely burnt before the arrival of men of the fire service, while the rest were partially affected by the fire.

In Osun State, some of the people who participated in the looting that followed the #EndSARS protest have been dragged to court.

At the Osogbo Magistrate Court, sitting in Osogbo, the state capital, three persons arraigned for allegedly robbing the Senator representing Osun West, Mr Adelere Oriolowo. 

The three accused persons identified as Muslim Saheed (aged 38), Kazeem Ganiyu (Aged 43), and Olaleye Olawale (23) were arraigned by the police on two-count bordering on conspiracy and armed robbery. 

The prosecutor, Mr John Idoko informed the court, “that the three accused person and others now at large on the 24th day of October 2020 at about 7:00 AM at Senator Adelere Adeyemi Oriolowo’s Farm and Residence, Iwo did conspire and armed themselves with cutlasses, iron rods, sticks, and other dangerous weapons and robbed Senator Adelere Oriolowo of six plasma television sets, mattresses, kitchen utensils, agro-allied materials, and chemicals imported valued at two million naira, dresses, cable network decoders, deep freezers, milk processing machines, rice processing machines, tiling machines and other valuables.

The plea of the three defendants was not taken, while the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Modupe Awodele transferred the case to Iwo Magistrate Court and adjourned the matter to 4, November 2020. 

She ordered that they should be remanded in Ilesha Correctional Center. 

Similarly, ten other persons who allegedly participated in looting of the Atakumosa West Local Government Secretariat, Osu were also arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrate Court.

Osun State governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola says there will be no extension of amnesty beyond the 72 hours earlier announced for looters to return stolen items.

He stated this while speaking with newsmen in Osogbo.

Governor Oyetola said he had been briefed that the returned loot
represented about 20 per cent of the total stolen items, thereby urging
those who are yet to heed to the call to so do within the next 24 hours.

He warned that after the expiration of the 72-hour amnesty as announced, government would go after the looters and make them face the wrath of the law.

On the curfew imposed on all parts of the state, the governor said he would meet with security chiefs to review the curfew and come out with a resolution.

The Osun State helmsman noted that the level of compliance has been very impressive and if it could be maintained, there was no point preventing people from going about their normal daily activities.

There is total compliance to the 24-hour curfew announced by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola in Oshogbo, Osun State capital.

Our correspondent, Funmi Adekoya who went round major areas in Oshogbo reports that people and vehicular movement were restricted.

Road blocks were mounted by the Army who stopped few people and vehicles on the road for interrogation, while only workers on essential duty were allowed passage.

It would be recalled that Governor Oyetola had declared an indefinite 24-hour curfew in the state following the looting of public and private warehouses in the state by hoodlums.

Normalcy has returned to osogbo, Osun state capital after yesterday looting spree in the state.

Radio Nigeria correspondent Wasiu Ajadosu reports that men of Nigeria army were positions in strategic places in Osogbo to maintain law and order.

The team are also embarking on routine patrol in the state capital to prevent hoodlums from attacking public and private property as well as looting of goods and materials.

A visit to popular olaiya junction and oke fia in Osogbo revealed that residents complied with the curfew order as there was no vehicular movement in the area.

It would be recalled that Osun state government yesterday re imposed 24 hour curfew in the state following looting spree and civil unrest in the state.

The Hunters Group of Nigeria today joined the #EndSARS protesters at the popular Ola-Iya junction, Osogbo capital of Osun State in solidarity against police brutality and attack by hoodlums. 

The youths had converged at the junction and barricaded all the roads joining the highway. 

The Hunters led by their head, Alhaji Hammed Nureen, marched from Odi-Olowo street in their scores to join the protesters assuring them of safety and prevention from thugs infiltration.

The #EndSARS protest on Saturday afternoon turned bloody in Osogbo as hoodlums attacked governor’s convoy and damaged several government vehicles.

Many people were severely wounded as many others scampered for safety.

Some victims have been rushed to Asubiaro State Hospital for medical attention.

Before it was disrupted, Governor Gboyega Oyetola had assured the protesters that all those who sustained any form of injuries during #EndSARS protest will be taken care of by government.

The governor who first apologised for not being able to address them since the protest started in the state assured the protesters that he believes in the genuine intention of the protest.

He told the protesters that the presidency has directed all state governors to constitute judicial panel of inquiry to look into the SARS activities before it was disbanded.

The atmosphere later became tense with the protesters not given any chance of peace as they started throwing dangerous objects at convoy including the vehicle that conveyed the governor.

Osun State governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola has appealed to youth protesting against police brutality in the state to maintain calm as government is ready to accede to their demands.

Governor Oyetola who joined the #EndSARS protest in Osogbo, said their agitation for police reform was understandable owing to harassment they had being subjected to by the men of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

He noted that government had resolved that justice must be served and the families of those who had been killed by the squad must be compensated.

Governor Oyetola who maintained that the youth had fundamental rights to protest against any unpopular policy of government urged them to do everything within the ambit of the law.

Some of the protesters lauded the governor for identifying with them and urged him to take their grievances to the federal government.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has dragged one Ajari Oghenekewe before a Federal High Court, sitting in Osogbo, Osun State for presenting self’s fake death certificate to escape justice. 

The commission’s prosecutor, Mr Muritala Usman, told the court that the defendant on February 17, 2020, with intention to deceive the EFCC, presented a false death certificate to the commission to escape justice, having been under investigation for fraud.

He was also said to have presented the fake death certificate through one Iyekute Felix to the EFCC’s Ibadan Zonal office, an offence contrary to section 39(2)(a) and punishable under section 39(2)(b) of the criminal law.

Oghenekewe was also alleged to have forged a Mikano International Limited Identity Card with the name of one Emefiele Smart and presented it to the staff of Fidelity Bank, Ile-Ife with intention to falsely obtain money from the bank.

The offence was said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 1 (2) (c) of Miscellaneous Offences Act Cap. M 17 laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

Meanwhile, Oghenekewe pleaded not guilty to the three-count charges bothering on fraud, forgery and cybercrime preferred against him by the EFCC. 

His Counsel, Mr M. O. Benson, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, promising that he would stand his trial. 

Justice Emmanuel Ayoola declined the oral application directing the counsel to file a formal bail application and ordered that the defendant should be allowed to continue with the EFCC’s bail condition. 

He adjourned the matter to November 18, 2029 for ruling on bail application.

Commercial activities in major parts of Osogbo and Ile-Ife cities in Osun state were today paralysed as Nigerian youths protesting Police brutality occupied the streets.

They turned the #EndSARS protest into carnival of sort as they danced. Despite the rain, the protesters stood their grounds and continued their protest.

The protesters, in their hundreds, took over the popular Olaiya junction, the heart of Osogbo in Osun state and mounted large speakers while a disc jockey was dazzling them with assorted songs.

Amid chants of #ENDSARSNOW, the protesters engaged themselves in a dancing competition for fun. This development attracted passersby who crowded the protest area to feed their eyes.

While the dancing and jubilation were ongoing, another group of youths stormed the scene and started chanting anti-government songs.

They called for a total reform of the Police Force and that the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, should go beyond it’s announcement.

As at 3:40pm, there was no sight of any security agency at the scenes of the protest.

Also in Ile-Ife, the protesters took to some popular areas including the ever-busy Ori-Olokun round about, Mayfair causing gridlock as commuters and motorists were stranded.

Speaking, one of the protesters, Mr Oluwaseun Farombi said that the announcement made by the Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Adamu could not be believed.

Mr. Farombi added that the IG was just deceiving Nigerians and noted that nothing tangible would come out of the dissolution.

The protesters said they would continue their peaceful protest until government was practical in reforming the Police Force.

Osun State Police has dragged four persons before the Federal High Court, sitting in Osogbo for allegedly duping a microfinance bank of over fourteen million naira (14,273,770).

The suspects are Aderinlowo Joseph, Oyinlola Abimbola, Sotomi Abosede and Bello Rasaq.

The prosecutor, Mr. Francis Osei, told the court that the defendants committed the alleged crime between 2016 and December 2019.

He alleged that the defendants who were workers of Otan-Ayegbaju Microfinance Bank, collected the money from customers with intent to deposit same and converted the money to their personal use. 

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the four-count charges of conspiracy, stealing and cybercrime preferred against them. 

Their counsel, Mr. Bola Abimbola-Ige, urged the court to allow the 1st to the 3rd defendants continue with the bail earlier granted them, and prayed the court to admit the 4th defendant to bail in the most liberal term. 

Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court, Osogbo thereby granted the fourth defendant bail in the sum of 10 million naira with two sureties in like sum. 

The judge ordered that the defendant be remanded in Ile-Ife Correctional Center pending the perfection of his bail.

He adjourned the case to November 3, 2020 for trial.

An Osun Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo the state capital has ordered the remand of a civil servant, Ayenioye Samson, 46, and a theater practitioner, Amoke Tunde, 38, for allegedly raping a teenager.

A Principal State Counsel, Mr Bankole Awoyemi applied to the court to take over the case from the police prosecutor.

According to the charge sheet the suspects were said to have committed the offence in February 2020 at a hotel located in Latona Area of Osogbo.

The two accused persons were alleged to have indecently assaulted and had unlawful carnal knowledge of a sixteen-year-old girl.

The offence is contrary to and punishable under section 31(1) (2) of the Child Right Law of Osun State 2007, section 516 and 360 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol ll Law of Osun State 2002. 

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the allegations preferred against them.

Defence Counsel, Mrs Abimbola Ige applied for the bail of the accused persons in most liberal terms.

Chief Abimbola further stressed that the accused persons would provide reliable sureties if granted bail.

In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr Badmus directed the police prosecutor to handover the case file to the State Counsel and ordered the remand of the accused persons in Ilesa Correctional Center.

He thereafter adjourned the case till 4th of November for ruling on bail and November 19, 2020 for hearing.

A Magistrate court sitting in Osogbo, the state capital has sentenced four teenagers to five years imprisonment for allegedly escaping from Dugbe police station custody.

The convicts are; Adeleke Azeez, 20, Isola Segun, 18,Odewale Maliq,18 and Ayoola Pelumi,15.

The convicts were earlier arraigned and remanded in Ilesa correctional centre on July 28, 2020 for  three count charges bothering on unlawful escape and willful damage of police custody.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Kayode told the court that the convicts committed the offence on July 27, 2020 at about 3:00am at Dugbe police station, Osogbo.

He alleged that the convicts damaged the iron door and the roofing sheet of the station and escaped from custody. 

Inspector Adeoye said the offence committed by the convict contrary to and punishable under section 516,135(a) and 151(b) Cap 34 Vol ll Law of Osun State 2002.

The four convicts pleaded guilty to the allegations slammed against them.

Defence Counsel, Mr. Adedoyin Ajewole while making pleas for the convicts, urged the court to caution and discharge them, saying that the convicts are young and if sentenced they may be corrupted in the correctional centre.

In his ruling, the Magistrate Mr Abayomi Ajala sentenced the convicts to two years imprisonment for the first count charge, two years for second count charge and one year for third count charge to run concurrently or option of fine of N9,000 with six stroke of cane each.

Some youths today had a peaceful protest to celebrate what they described as Nigeria’s 60th birthday.

The youths who matched across major streets of Osogbo, the Osun State capital said, while the funfair of the anniversary is on elsewhere, it was imperative to draw attention the state of things in the country.

Muslim faithful in Osun State has joined their counterparts all over the world to mark Eid-el Kabir celebration.

Radio Nigeria correspondent reports that some Islamic groups deified the directive of state government who placed ban on Eid prayer.

Most of Eid prayer grounds visited in Osogbo was empty as Muslim faithful followed the directive of government.

Speaking, an Islamic scholar, Alhaji Kabiru Adesoji said Eid prayer could be observed within the family it was not necessarily at praying ground.

Alhaji Adesoji noted that Prophet Muhammad ordered his followers to always obey the directive of their leaders.

It would be recalled that Osun State Government has earlier placed ban on Eid-el Kabir congregation prayer.

Osun State Government has disclosed plans to arraign a policewoman,
who allegedly maltreated her six-year-old stepdaughter.

Osun State Commissioner for Women, Children and Social Affairs, Mrs
Bukola Olaboopo made this known to newsmen in Osogbo.

Mrs Olaboopo said government was “convinced about the maltreatment of
the subject, an action contrary to the provisions of the child rights
law of the state.”

She warned that violation of the child rights law in the state was a
criminal offence, adding that the suspect would be charged to court.

Mrs Olaboopo added that the present administration led by Mr Gboyega
Oyetola has zero tolerance for rape, child molestation, child labour
and other vices that can endanger the lives of children.

Four illegal miners have been apprehended by Osun Amotekun Corps while attempting to smuggle some gemstones out of the state.

The Director-General of the corps, Mr Amitolu Shittu, who made this known to newsmen, said the illegal miners were intercepted in Osogbo.

Mr Shittu explained that the miners were moving the stones suspected to be marble from Oba-Oke in Olorunda Local Government Area of the state.

He added that the action of the illegal miners amounted to economic sabotage, urging residents to always report such activities to security officials.

A 45-year-old man, Jonathan Ukonwe has been sentenced to 30 days imprisonment for not wearing a face mask and resisting arrest. 

Ukonwe was arraigned before an Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo on three counts bordering on resisting arrest, deliberate refusal to wear nose mask and assault. 

The convict pleaded guilty to two counts while he pleaded not guilty to the offense of assault of one Meshack Funmilola, a member of the Hunters Group of Nigeria currently working for Amotekun Corps. 

The Magistrate, Mr Opeyemi Badmus convicted and sentenced Ukonwe to 30 days imprisonment or a fine of 15,000 naira on the two counts.

However, he admitted him to bail on the third count of assault with the sum of 500,000 naira with two sureties in like sum.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Mr Abiodun Fagboyinbo, told the court that Ukonwe committed the offence on 1 July 2020 at about 10:30 AM at Olaiya Junction Area, Osogbo. 

He said the convict intentionally resisted arrest following his deliberate refusal to wear a face mask in the public thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under sections 203 and 249(D) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.ll Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002. 

Mr Fagboyinbo also alleged that the convict assaulted one Mrs Meshack Funmilola of the Hunters Group of Nigeria while performing her lawful duty on the enforcement of the use of face mask and thereby committed an offence contrary to (2) and punishable under section 356 (2) of Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. Il Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2020.

Officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Osun State Command are currently investigating a domestic violence case involving a 52 year old man, Raheem Seriki and his wife, 35 year old Omolara Seriki.

In a statement in Osogbo, the Public Relations Officer of NSCDC, Mr Daniel Adigun says the wife allegedly inflicted a deep cut on her husband scrotum.

Mr Adigun hints that the incident reportedly occurred on the 6th of June, 2020, first Sunday of the month at Iragbiji, Boripe Local Government Area, Osun state, between the couple who had been married for the past six years and blessed with two children. 

He further explains that on the fateful day around 10 pm, a lady brought food for the husband, but could not go home as the rains delayed her. 

While waiting for the rains to subside, he heard a knock on the door with a call to open it and he decided to end his prayers and opened the door, but to his surprise, it was his wife, Omolara.

The officials’ states further that immediately, an argument ensued and Omolara allegedly went for his scrotum with a bid to pull it out.

It was in the process, that the man reportedly fainted and only regained consciousness at the hospital when the injured scrotum was been sutured.

According to the narration, the woman alleged the husband of neglecting his responsibilities as a father and husband, making her to become suspicious about his movements and infidelity.

This made her to trace him to his house that very night and fortunately met a lady with him, adding that during the scuffle, the husband held her by the neck and in self-defense she pulled his male organs. Adenitan Akinola

A 75-year-old man, Jacob Ayinla, has reportedly raped a 15-year-old local juice seller popularly known as ‘Pito’ in his apartment in Osogbo, Osun State. 

A resident of the area told Radio Nigeria that the incident happened on Wednesday evening around Odi-Olowo area, Osogbo when Ayinla lured the girl into his house under the pretense that he wanted to buy the local juice from her.

Another source confirmed that the victim lived around Aresa area, Osogbo with her relative who produces the local juice for her to hawk every day. 

He said she reported the issue to the police station, informing the police’s visit to Ayinla’s House and eventual arrest around 6:30 PM on Wednesday. 

When the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Osun Command, Mrs Yemisi Opalola was contacted, she said, the victim reported the matter to Oja Oba Police Divisional Headquarters that she was raped by one Jacob Ayinla after he lured her to his house under the guise that he wanted to buy ‘Pito’. 

Mrs Opalola confirmed that the culprit was arrested while the girl was taken to the Police Hospital for a medical test.
