Hoodlums Attack Amotekun Personnel, Police at Construction Site

Reports just reaching us state that a number of hoodlums this morning attacked workers and officials of Amotekun and Police at a construction site around Amuloko, Ona Ara Local Government Area, Oyo State.

According to the report, members of a union were set to have a building on their land, commencing the work yesterday.

The hoodlums were said to have been at the construction site yesterday asking for money before allowing the union to start the project.

They later warned the owners of the project not to come to the site today.

Investigations showed that Amotekun and Police officials who were approached for security were there yesterday and today.

The hoodlums were said to have come this morning, attacked the workers and security men.

Some of those who were attacked, reports say, have been taken to a Primary Health Centre, Amuloko, along Akanran Road while one of the victims with a severe injury, according to the information, had been taken to U C H.

Ogun Assembly Passes Resolution on Prompt Takeoff of Amotekun

The Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on the State Government to step up plans towards the immediate take off of the Amotekun Security Network, with a view to strengthening security architecture in the state.

The passage of the resolution followed a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Mr Yusuf Sherif, seconded by Mr Solomon Osho and unanimously supported by other lawmakers through a voice vote at a plenary presided over by the  Speaker ,Mr Olakunle Oluomo at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The resolution, according to the lawmakers, was aimed at calling on the state governor to achieve a seamless and immediate take-off of the State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps Law passed by the Assembly March, 2020.

The lawmakers noted that the immediate take off of Amotekun corps  became imperatives considering the rising spate of insecurity occasioned by cases of kidnappings, herdsmen and farmers clash, banditry and cultism, among others.

Earlier, some members including Mr Sola Adams, Mr Adegoke Adeyanju, Mr Oludaisi Elemide, Mr Kemi Oduwole and Mr Solomon Osho complained about the nefarious activities of some herdsmen, who often engaged in kidnapping and destruction of farmlands under the guise of open grazing for their herds of cattle.

In his response, Speaker, Mr Oluomo lauded the intervention of the state command of the Nigeria Police Force at checkmating crimes and gave a renewed charge on residents to always provide timely and credible information to the security agencies towards aiding their operations to make the state an unsafe for criminals. 

Mr Oluomo added that the State Assembly would soon convey a stakeholders’ forum to harness the inputs of concerned stakeholders towards ensuring the passage of the Animal Grazing and Cattle Ranch Establishment Law, 2020.

Osun Police, Amotekun, Vigilante Rescue Kidnap Victim

The second person that was reportedly kidnapped on Sunday night by unknown gunmen along Omoh/Erin-Ijesha road in Ori-Ade Local Government Area of Osun State has been rescued.

In a telephone interview with Radio Nigeria, the Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO of the Osun Police Command, Mrs Yemisi Opalola confirmed the development.

Mrs Opalola said the success was the result of a combined rescue mission of the police, Amotekun, Hunters and Vigilante outfits that combed the forest since the incident was reported on Sunday.

She however said no arrest was made, but the police was on the trail of the kidnappers.

Two persons were kidnapped on Sunday, while one was rescued on Sunday night, the other was yesterday rescued late on Tuesday by security men.

It was gathered that the kidnappers absconded and left the hostage when they saw intimidating numbers of security operatives towards moving them.

Pandemonium in Ibarapa over Alleged Killing of Youths by Amotekun

Pandemonium broke out this morning in Tapa, Ibarapa Area of Oyo State following the alleged killing of two youths by Amotekun Corps yesterday evening.

Report says some youths in the area took to the street vandalizing houses while people were running helter-skelter for safety.

Two residents in the area, Mr. Taiwo Adeagbo and Mr. Sunday Fadipe explained that the youths took to the street in retaliation of two persons that were allegedly killed by some officers of Amotekun.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the Amotekun Corps had wanted to prevent staging of carnival proposed by some youths of Tapa community which eventually resulted in chaos that led to the death of two persons while seven others got injured.

Effort to get the Police Public Relation Officer, Mr. Olugbenga Fadeyi, to speak on the development, was not successful as he did not pick his call.

Meanwhile, a former gubernatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Dr. Olusola Ayandele has condemned the activities of some criminal elements in Ibarapaland which have culminated in the killing and kidnapping of many residents.

 In a statement, Dr Ayandele called on Governor Seyi Makinde to act swiftly to restore peace and security in the state, particularly Ibarapa and Oke-Ogun axis.

He called on eminent people of Ibarapaland to work together to arrest the trend and ensure that the whole of Ibarapaland is safe.

Dr Ayandele regretted that within a space of one month, some notable indigenes of Ibarapaland have lost their lives in the hands of suspected herdsmen.

He sympathized with all the victims of previous attacks and pray God almighty to grant them reprieve in all forms.

Amotekun Corps Member Shoots Police Constable

A special Police constable attached to Ojongbodu Police Station, Oyo town Yekini Fatai has been shot at his left leg by a member of the Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun, Mr Ibrahim  Ogundele.

According to a witness, Mr Sunday Fálọlá, the victim was shot at a close range at Sabo area of the ancient town.

Mr Fálọlá said the cause of the incident was not known as they all fled when they heard the gun shot.

The victim was said to have been rushed to Oyo State General Hospital, Owode-Oyo,

Reacting, the commandant of Amotekun, Olayinka confirmed the incident  but that it was an accidental discharge.

The commandant explained that the Divisional Police Officer, Ojongbodu had invited Amotekun operatives to join them in dismantling a supposed carnival planned by some hoodlums.

He said the stage was successfully dismantled without any problem.

Olayinka explained that unfortunately, Officer Ogundele’s double barrel was said to have accidentally fired and regrettably hit the constable on his thigh.

He added that the officer had been detained by the police while  investigation on the incident has commenced.

Meanwhile,the oyo state public relations officer Olugbenga Fadeyi said he was yet to be briefed on the incident.

The newly inaugurated Oyo State Security Network, codenamed “Amotekun Corps” has dismissed the report going round that a member of the corps opened gunfire on some residents of Ibadan, killing two and injuring many.


The corps Public Relations Officer, Mrs Ayolola Adedoja who stated this in an interview with Radio Nigeria said the perpetrator was not a member of Amotekun.

Mrs Adedoja confirmed that there was a crisis around Born Photo and Isale Osi area, of Ibadan involving men of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) and some hoodlums.

According to her, the operatives of Amotekun Corps were only invited to enforce peace within the said area.

Radio Nigeria gathered that two persons were shot dead during the fracas.

Amotekun: Gov. Makinde Inaugurates Operational Vehicles, Motorcycles

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has commissioned thirty-three operational vehicles and 396 motorcycles for the state Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed “Amotekun” for effective security coverage of the state.

The presentation of the vehicles took place at the premises of the State House of Assembly.

Speaking at the commissioning, Governor Makinde said restructuring Nigeria was the only option which would address most of the challenges facing the nation, especially security with every zone of the country developing at its own pace than a clamour for presidency in different zones of the country.

Governor Makinde lauded the Amotekun corps for its security effort in the state, urging them to work even harder for a secured environment for the state to expand its economy.

Governor Makinde enjoined the people to assist the corps with useful security tips to boost their effectiveness.

The chairman of the state Amotekun corps, Brigadier General Kunle Togun, Retired, gave an assurance that the security outfit would do its best not to disappoint the people as the expectations were high.

Also, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Chief Bayo Lawal said the security mobility provided would be increased when necessary.

Chief Lawal harped on the need for maintenance culture of the operational vehicles and motorcycles.

Gov. Makinde Inaugurates One Thousand Five Hundred Amotekun Corps

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state has inaugurated the pioneer 1,500 personnel of Western Security Network of Nigeria codenamed Amotekun in the state.

Governor Makinde said from now, there would be immediate local response to any external invasion in the state with the support of the Oyo state security network agency, codenamed Amotekun.

Governor Makinde noted that the Amotekun corps would be deployed across the 351 wards of the state to play significant role in community policing and collaborating with other security agencies in addressing all forms of crime and criminality in Oyo state as well as impact on the quest of regional integration in the South West .

The governor urged the Amotekun corps members to be professional in the discharge of their duties and shun any act of intimidation and harassment of the people 

Earlier, the state chairman of the Western Security Network of Nigeria, Brigadier General Kunle Togun Retired expressed the readiness of the corps to carry out its function diligently on the pursuit for the social economic emancipation of Yorubaland.

Amotekun: Oyo Residents Advocates Credible Personnel

Motorists plying Iseyin – Okeho road want to know if the police mounted road block at Olugbade village has the approval of relevant authorities or not and whether the days of checking points are gradually returning.


Activities of two uniformed policemen sighted on the road around 8 a.m this morning with an army green colour Nissan car, one of them carrying AK 47 riffle came as a rude shock to the commuters.
They however advised against return of police extortion on the road which according to them did not stop crime in the past.


Similarly, concerned residents of Iseyin have called on Gov Seyi Makinde to ensure that hoodlums and criminals did not make the final list of Amotekun security outfit so as not to jeopardize the lofty goals of the initiative.


Two of the residents who pleaded anonymity expressed readiness to give identity of some criminals among the security outfit now undergoing training in Oyo town.


They also called for creation of a medium through which identities of such questionable characters could be discretely revealed, particularly those who took part in the looting that messed up the Endsars protest in Iseyin.

Governor Fayemi Tasks Amotekun personnel on Patriotism.

Ekiti state Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has challenged personnel of the Amotekun Security Outfit to ensure patriotism and carry out their activities in conformity with the rules and regulations guiding the corps..
The Governor who gave the charge in Ado Ekiti at the official launch of the Western Nigeria Security Network code named “Amotekun Corps” also affirmed that the security outfit would help to curb all forms of insecurity in the state.
He said that the over four hundred personnel recruited into the corps in the state  would complement efforts of other security agencies in protecting the lives and property of the people..
Dr Fayemi said that the Amotekun security corps was not a subtitle for any security agency but was established to strengthen the security architecture of the state.
He added that the issue of insecurity in the country was a major concern which needed to be tackled collectively
The Governor said that the Amotekun corps would deploy ancient, local and modern security techniques to ward off kidnapping, robbery and other crimes in the state.
Earlier In his remarks, the corps Commandant, Retired Brigadier General Joe Komolafe said the mandate of the Amotekun corps revolved around the protection of lives and property.
He added that the outfit would not dabble into marital issues, land disputes or other breach of contractual agreement.

Ekiti Amotekun Corp Strategizes to Rescue Kidnapped Industrialist

The Western Nigeria Security Network code-named Amotekun in Ekiti State says it is working with other security agencies to apprehend those who kidnapped an industrialist Mr Jide Ijadare at his groundnut producing factory on Ijan Ilupeju road.

The Ekiti corps commander of the security network, General Joe Akomolafe stated this when he led some top government functionaries on a visit to Ijan Ekiti to unravel the circumstances behind the act. 

Retired General Joe Akomolafe said government was no longer comfortable with the security situation in the state and gave assurance of more synergy to combat crimes.

He said the corps in collaboration with the police and other security agencies in state would secure Mr Ijadare’s timely release and apprehend the culprits.

It was however gathered that the kidnappers have contacted Mr Ijadare’s family demanding for a twenty million naira ransom.

The industrialist Olajide Ijadare was kidnapped on Tuesday along Ijan Ilupeju road on his way home from his groundnut oil factory and one of his staff was shot dead by the kidnappers.

Mr Ijadare recently returned from the United States of American to Ekiti state to establish the factory where he employed about fifty people.

Amotekun: Fake Recruitment Officer Apprehended

A middle-aged man, Kareem Taiwo from Ibadan North Local Government has been arrested by security agents in Ibadan while making efforts to defraud people by claiming to be the recruitment officer for the Oyo State security outfit.

The suspect, Taiwo had on Sunday pasted a notice at the Adamasingba Stadium venue of the State’s recruitment screening centre with his name and phone numbers that those interested in joining the Amotekun Corps should contact him.

The management of the outfit got wind of the notice and started a subtle trail of the culprit before he was apprehended and handed over to the security agents for prosecution.

When asked what prompted the act, a sobered Kareem Taiwo who claimed to be selling bags of cements said it was the work of the devil and regretted his act, saying only one person contacted him through his number.

Reacting, Chairman, Oyo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps Retired General Kunle Toogun said the general public should be wary of fraudsters in their quest to become members of the corps.

Retired General Togun noted that the screening of applicants into the corps would continue as the exercise had just covered only the Ibadan city axis.

It would be recalled that the screening exercise commenced last week at the Adamasingba stadium, where applicants were required to tender their certificates to show their readiness to work with the outfit.

Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has declared that security of lives and properties in the state remains extremely important to his government.

The governor stated this while addressing chairpersons of the 68 Local Government and Local Council Development Council Areas in the state, at a meeting held inside the House of Chiefs, Secretariat Ibadan.

He stated that the Oyo State Security Network codenamed Operation Amotekun has come to stay in the state, adding that the outfit would not be under the control of the Federal establishments but the state, as according to him, it is impossible to achieve any meaningful development in an atmosphere of insecurity.

“We want our people to sleep with their two eyes closed. Of course, security is one of the pillars of this administration and we must do everything possible to invest in the security of lives and property. In Okeho the other day, armed robbers went to rob and the community rose against them and apprehended them. They combed the forests and they got them. 

“This is why I will continue to say it and I am saying it for the whole world to hear; Amotekun is here to stay with us. And it will not be under the control of the federal establishment. It will be under our control. Security of our people is extremely important, because nothing can take place, as far as we are concerned, in an atmosphere of insecurity,” he said.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, also indicated that the governor gave marching orders to the caretaker committee chairmen to immediately go back to their domains to set up Security Committees with a view to tackling the security challenges in their localities.

He maintained that the state government would provide all enablement for them to succeed in the task.

The governor said: “From where we are here, the biggest challenge we have seen so far is in the area of security. 

“We are getting close to the ’ember’ months, a period in which some people who have not worked all year and want to have a Merry Christmas, commit all sorts of crimes. So, we expect that there will be a spike in criminal activities. I want to, as a matter of urgency, urge you that you all go back to your areas to set up your Security Committees. It must be done almost immediately. And I will be happy to release funds; to give approval for you to spend some money on security within your domains.

“Oyo State is very large; in terms of land size, we are more than all the states of South-East Nigeria put together. So, we have a lot to do to protect the state. We have international borders, so there is smuggling taking place. They killed a Customs officer in Saki a few weeks ago; those things are not acceptable to us. 

“As the government that is the closest to the people, you have to take control of the challenges of insecurity in your various domains and you should please, once those committees are set up, any enabler that you need, let us know. We will work with the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, to make sure those enablers are provided.”

Governor Makinde used the occasion to commend some of the local government chairpersons, whom he noted had been doing their best despite limited resources, while urging everyone of them to sit up and link up with the party men and women as well as residents of their localities ahead of plans for local government election, which he said would be made public once the House of Assembly screens and clears the nominees for the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC).

The governor also hinted that the state government would set up an evaluation committee to vet the performances of the local government chairmen as well as the challenges they are facing, stating that his administration remains determined to give the state true democracy and to meet the yearning and aspirations of the people.

He said: “Also, our party, PDP, we are supposed to be solid at the local level and some of you are lagging behind. Some, the party leaders told me, are doing well; you are linking up with the party and encouraging them to put up activities for the party. I want to say if the party is doing well at the state level, it starts from the local government level, so you will have to do more. 

“I remember in 2019, when we were running for the office, we didn’t have anyone at the local level while the APC had the so-called ALGON, but they are ALL-GONE, because they are gone now. But they were rejected even up to the local level, because they were not performing. Let us even say they were not performing at the state level, if at the local levels, they were able to level up with our people, perhaps things would have been a little different for them. 

“We don’t want our situation to be like theirs. But we want to reach out to our people and ensure that the welfare of our people at the local level becomes top priority for us.

“Yesterday, I sent the names of our nominees to be screened and cleared for OYSIEC and you all know the meaning of that, OYSIEC are the ones to conduct local government election. So, as soon as they are cleared and we swear them in, I am sure they will swing into action and they will let us know their plans. 

“So, watch out, because things will happen and they will happen rapidly. Our people want to elect their leaders, because they want them to be accountable to them. You know that it is not just chairmen and chairpersons that will be elected, each ward will have a representative. We want real and true democracy at the local government level in Oyo State. So, you should all be prepared for that.”

The governor further charged the local government chairpersons to take responsibility for government assets in their domains, noting that it has become imperative to move away from the mentality that public assets are no one’s property.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matter, Chief Bayo Lawal, charged the local government chairmen to be good ambassadors in their local governments.

He said that the Makinde-led administration would not tolerate any failure from the chairpersons, urging them to emulate the state government by making sure that the dividends of democracy get to the people at the grassroots.

The meeting was attended by top government functionaries including the Deputy Governor, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan; chairman, State Advisory Committee, Senator Hosea Agboola; the Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Olawale Mogbonjubola, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chief Lawal and the Special Adviser on Strategy and Political Affairs, Hon. Babatunde Oduyoye, among others.

Amotekun’s partnership with the Police will enhance security – Oyo Speaker

Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr Adebo Ogundoyin says the success of Amotekun Corps in enhancing the security of the state is dependent on the full support and guidance given to it by officers and men of the Nigerian Police.

Mr Ogundoyin stated this when the Oyo State Police Commissioner, Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu paid a familiarization visit to him in his office at the Parliament Building, Secretariat Ibadan.

The Speaker requested the Oyo State Commissioner of Police to extend full support to Amotekun Corps when fully operational in the state to enable them complement the activities of security agents in the task of reducing crimes in every nook and cranny of the state.

Mr Ogundoyin told the Police Commissioner that Amotekun Corps was not established to take over the functions of the Nigerian Police but to help them gather information, engage in surveillance and help in arresting suspects. 

While assuring the Oyo State Police Command of the readiness of the State Legislature to work with the various security agencies since security is the joint responsibility of all, Mr Ogundoyin urged the Police to do more in the area of intelligent gathering and securing of the border communities in Oyo State.

In his remarks, CP Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu assured the Speaker that the Oyo State Police Command was ready to work with Amotekun Corps in line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP

The CP explained that the Police has a good working relationship with the various vigilante groups and local hunters, adding that Amotekun Corps who will not bear arms will not be an exception

Citing the bank robbery incident in Okeho some weeks ago, CP Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu said if not for the local hunters the robbers would not have been apprehended.

On the farmers/herders clashes, the state police boss who promised that his men would take proactive steps to arrest those causing the crises, blamed the spate of kidnappings, armed robbery and other heinous crimes perpetrated in some parts of the state on some nomads who use their cattle as cover-ups.

Oyo Govt. Approves Funds for Take-off of Amotekun

Oyo State Government on Tuesday approved the sum of N59, 783, 437.50 (Fifty nine million, seven hundred and eighty-three thousand, four hundred and thirty-seven Naira and fifty Kobo) as grant for the take-off of the State Security Network Agency, codenamed ‘Operation Amotekun’.

This was disclosed after the state’s 19th virtual executive meeting, where the executive council approved the fund for the procurement of 3000 units of uniforms, combat boots, lanyard, baseball hats, security belts and worsted socks.

It will also cover the production of logo for the personnel to serve as identity and distinguish them from other security agencies in the State.

The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, while disclosing the outcome of the meeting, said “further on the establishment of the State Security Network, codenamed ‘Operation Amotekun’ and for effective take off of the agency, the State Executive Council has approved the procurement of 3000 units of uniforms and accoutrements such as combat boots, lanyard, baseball hats, security belts, worsted socks, production of Amotekun and Oyo State logo for 3000 Amotekun corps to be recruited into the agency at a total sum of Fifty nine million, seven hundred and eighty three thousand, four hundred and thirty seven naira and fifty kobo.

“The uniforms and accoutrements which will be given to each recruited Amotekun Corp will serve as a form of identity for the corps and will distinguish them from other security agencies in the state.”

Olatubosun further stated that the council also approved funds for re-accreditation of Adeoyo Maternity at Yemetu in Ibadan as a full-fledged teaching hospital, as the accreditation initially gotten was withdrawn for failure to have necessary equipment in place, saying it was in conformity with the present administration’s passion to revitalise the health sector  in the State.

He said the hospital would henceforth serve as residence training and gynaecology centre to add value to the iconic health institution and improve the image of the State, adding that the move would lead to procurement of medical equipment for the teaching hospital at the cost of Seventy-five million, eight hundred and seventy-seven thousand and six hundred Naira (#75,877,600.00).

“In pursuant of this lofty goal, the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria has visited Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital and the team has notified the state government of their intention to give re-accreditation to Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital.

The equipment to be procured includes six hydraulic delivery beds, two theatre electronic/automatic tables and one Laparoscope plus one hysteroscope. Others are one Colposcope, two CTG, two Ultrasound, four Angle Poise Lamps and one bowl anaesthetic machine.

“Summary of the equipment for re-accreditation of Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital at a total cost of N75,877,600.00, the facility is expected to be ready for reaccreditation before the end of the year 2020.”

The Commissioner also informed journalists that the State government, through the Executive Council, has keyed into the federal government’s preparation for a long-term plan tagged “Nigeria Agenda 2050” and a medium-term national development plan 2021-2025 which he said would succeed the Vision 20:2020 and the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) 2017-2020.

He said the decision is consistent with the development process as obtained in countries like China, South Korea, India and Malaysia. He hinted that preparation for the State Plan 2021-2041, the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), Medium Term Sector Strategy (MTSS) and Medium-Term Budget Framework (MTBF) would commence from August 2020 and span a period of 133 days at a total sum of N83,571,725.00.

The University of Ibadan Ventures Limited (Consultancy Service Unit) has also been appointed as the consultant to support the process.

According to Dr Olatubosun, “the plan will be anchored on six strategic thematic areas, namely, Economic Development, Human Capital and Social Development, Infrastructure, Science and Technology, Resources Mobilisation and Financial Management, Security, Governance and Service Delivery.”

“The plan is to emphasise on the development agenda of the current administration as encapsulated in the Roadmap to Accelerated Development of Oyo State.”

“In line with best practices, the State would adopt an all-inclusive and participatory approach to preparing the home grown State Development Plan.

“In order to enhance the broad-base ownership of the implementation of the Plan, key stakeholders with include all MDAs, Local Government Areas, Local Council Development Authorities, Civil Society Organizations, the Academia, Research Institutions, DAWN Commission, Development Partners like UNICEF, DFID-PERL among others.”

Osun Assembly Screens Amotekun Corps Chairman, Commander

The Osun State House of Assembly has screened Brigadier General Isa Aderibigbe as Chairman, Governing Board of Osun State Security Network Agency, and Retired Brigadier General Bashir Adewimbi as Corps Commander of the Security outfit.

Some of the Lawmakers, including Minority Leader, Mr. Babajide Kofoworola, in their submissions, described the nominees as diligent, trustworthy and disciplined, capable to paddle the affairs of the State Security Network, Amotekun.

Retired Brigadier General Bashir Adewimbi, while answering questions on how to enhance Security system in the state, said surveillance at the border towns, especially in remote areas would be enhanced to prevent influx of bandits into the state.

Retired Brigadier General Adewimbi promised to work in synergy with other security agencies to ensure security of lives and property.

The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr. Timothy Owoeye in his remark urged the nominees to do their best in eradicating crimes from the state.

We will give room to input from traditional rulers – Ekiti Amotekun Commandant

 The Ekiti State Security Network Agency code named Amotekun says sixty five percent of its personnel will be recruited based on recommendations from the traditional rulers.

The Commandant of the Corps, Retired Brigadier General Joe Komolafe stated this during a sensitisation visit to Ikole, Oye and Ilejemeje Local Government Areas to educate the people on the importance of the agency.

Retired Brigadier Komolafe, who promised to run a home-grown security outfit where personnel recruited would be deployed to their various communities, said Monarchs would play a pivot role in ensuring that people with proven integrity were recruited into the corps to enhance optimal service delivery.

He said that the recruitment process currently ongoing online was to ensure transparency, accurate data base and prevent fraudsters from hijacking the process.

The commandant warned people of questionable character not to apply.

Earlier, the Board Chairman of Ekiti State Security Network Agency, Chief Akinola Aregbesola said that traditional rulers were custodians of native intelligence, hence the need to involve them in the recruitment process.

Speaking in Ikole Ekiti during the sensitization tour, the Obanla of Ijesha Isu, Oba Gabriel Oso explained that the traditional rulers were ready to abide by the rules guiding the recommendation of prospective Amotekun for recruitment into the security outfit.

The Oloye of Oye Ekiti, Oba Ademola Ademolaju commended the agency for involving kings in the process and promised to work with the agency.

Amotekun Corps Intercepts Suspected Bandits at Ikire

Suspected bandits were on Sunday intercepted by the men of Osun State Amotekun Corps in Ikire.

The suspects who were arrested in commercial bus while trying to forcefully enter the state despite the existing boundary closure.

Speaking with newsmen, the Director-General of Amotekun Corps in Osun State, Mr Amitolu Shittu said the eighteen-passenger bus was filled to capacity.

Mr Amitolu noted that the Amotekun Corps stopped the suspects at a checkpoint around Oyo/Osun boundary in line with ongoing interstate travel restriction by the federal government.

He hinted that the suspects claimed to coming from Lagos and heading to Itagunmodi Mining Site, in Atakunmosa West Local Government area of the state. 

The Director General of Amotekun Corps noted that they had no option than to send them back to where they were coming from.

However different types of assorted charms were recovered from two of the suspected bandits.

OYHA Demands Prioritization of Security Outfit-Amotekun

The Oyo State House of Assembly has called on the Executive arm to as a matter of urgency prioritize the formation of Oyo State Security Network, codename Amotekun. 

According to the lawmakers, this is to check the nefarious activities of criminally minded herdsmen who recently invaded some parts of Oyo state.

The call followed a motion of urgent public Importance moved by Mr. Isiaka Kazeem representing Oyo East and West constituency during plenary.

The Lawmakers who blew hot over the killings of three persons in Akinyele local government and the destruction of farms in Ogbomoso by some bandits suspected to be herdsmen called for the immediate formation of Amotekun Corps.

Ruling on the motion, Speaker of the House, Mr. Adebo Ogundoyin said the Assembly will speedily screen designates nominated to oversee the affairs of the Amotekun Corps so that work could commence in each local government of the state.

Mr Ogundoyin also urged the executive arm in the state to speedily implement the anti-grazing law in other to address insecurity rising from herdsmen attack.

Gov. Makinde Appoints General Togun, Col. Olayinka to Oversee Amotekun

Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has appointed General Ajibola Kunle Togun (Retired) and Retired Colonel Olayanju Bisiriyu Olayinka as Chairman and Commandant of the Oyo State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun.

A statement signed by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Print Media Moses Alao, indicates that the retired military officers will oversee the initiative, which was put in place to checkmate insecurity in the state.

The new chairman of the outfit, General Togun, retired from the military having served as Director of Military Intelligence and former Deputy Director-General of the State Security Service.

General Togun, who attended the Government College, Ibadan, and Mount Olivet High School, Oyo, studied Zoology at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University),  Ile-Ife, between 1964 and 1968, before joining the Nigerian Army in 1968, where he served in the Awka Sector during the Nigerian Civil War.

He was the first non-American Army Officer to score 100 percent in a military subject at the aptitude level.

Similarly, the newly appointed commandant of the Oyo State Amotekun outfit, Col. Olayinka (rtd), has several years of experience in the military, having served as Assistant Director, British Military Advisory Training Team, Defence Headquarters, Abuja; Deputy Chief of Staff (Logistics), Headquarters 2 Div, Nigerian Army, Ibadan and Sector Commander, Operation Safe Haven, Plateau State, among others.

It will be recalled that Governor Makinde signed the AmotekunBill into law in March this year.
