Organising career day for students routinely is part of the ways to reshape the path of students in life.

This was the submission of the Special Adviser to Oyo State Governor on students’ affairs, Mr Victor Olojede at a career and prize-giving day ceremony organized by Oba Akinbiyi High School 2, Mokola, Ibadan.

Mr Olojede gave the opinion that career day could change students’ ways of thinking to become useful to themselves and society at large.

He called on students who were not performing optimally not to be pessimistic, as they could still attain any height in life.

“I was one of those who didn’t get an award in secondary school, but thank God for my life today”.

The Principal, of Oba Akinbiyi High School 2, Mrs Oluwatoyin Ayodele said the programme was put together as a way of encouraging students to become their best version in life.

She noted that it had become a yearly event which would stir up competition in students to improve their performances in their various fields of study, in order to receive awards attached.

Chairman Parents Teachers’ Association of Oba Akinbiyi High School two, Mr Abiodun Odejayi, said the idea of setting up a career talk always has a positive impact on students.

He however called on other parents to keep on encouraging their children to choose their careers wisely.

Women have been advised to strive to acquire basic education so as to make them relevant in the society.

An expert Dr Mabayoje Emmanuel stated this at a forum on ‘Literacy Day’ in Ibadan.

Dr Emmanuel said women needed education in all their daily transactions as it helps in all endeavours.

Dr Emmanuel who noted that education could be acquired anywhere advocated a cleaner and well-ventilated space for quick assimilation of what is being taught.

The CEO of a non-governmental organization, Mrs Adebukola Osho who is the convener said the need for education among women has become important, especially in the technology-driven era.

Mrs Osho appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to help the less privileged women in their quest to acquire basic education.

For the broadcast industry to be the game-changer for a new Nigeria there is a need for media professionals to set agenda for the government’s actions which should be devoided of propaganda. 

An educationist, Dr Fola Akinosun stated this while delivering a lecture at an event in Ibadan to commemorate this year’s World Radio Day. 

Speaking on the topic “Re inventing Nigeria, the Roles of Radio and other Broadcast Media”, Dr Akinosun advised broadcast stations to redouble their efforts at disseminating information that are truthful, unbiased and progressive. 

Reacting to the recent crises at Sasa market and Ibarapa, the educationist appealed to broadcasters to jettison fake news and avoid over blowing of issues especially during crises. 

In a message to the occassion, Zonal Director, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Ibadan, Pastor Mrs Bolanle Owoyemi, represented by General Manager Premier FM, Alhaji Bashir Omotosho urged broadcasters not to be silent but professional on matters that could jeopardize the progress of Nigeria. 

Pastor Mrs Owoyemi explained that broadcasters must be alive to their role of uplifting and uniting the nation which she said Radio Nigeria stood for.

Academic activities have commenced in private schools in Ondo State as students resumed for the first term in the 2021/ 2022 session.

Our correspondent who went round Akure, the Ondo state capital reports that both teachers and pupils were kitted with face shields and masks in compliance with the Covid-19 rules.

Canopies were also placed in strategic areas in some schools for parents to sit while observing social distance.

The story was however not the same in public schools visited as parents were seeing processing the admission of their children while others were busy clearing the school premises. 

Some school principals told Radio Nigeria that Principal’s test will be conducted for students on Tuesday.

On her part, the principal of CAC grammar school, Akure Mrs. Oluwapelumi Adetimehin explained that schools are being faced with the challenge of managing the population of students in line with the social distance rule as there would not be available classes for students.

Mrs. Adetimehin However urged parents to always play their own parts in adhering to Covid-19 protocols by providing hand sanitizers and nose masks for their pupils.

Meanwhile, parents today besieged commercial banks in Akure to make some payments which is part of admission process into Public Secondary Schools.

Entrance of Banks along Oyemekun and Adesida road were filled up in defiance to Covid-19 protocol as security locked them out to control the crowd.

No fewer than Thirty Arts Students of Al-Ameen comprehensive high school, Agbogangan, Oba Adeyemi Area in Oyo were on excursion to the broadcasting house of Radio Nigeria, Dugbe in Ibadan.

The students who were exposed to operations in the Reportorial unit, Control Room, Live and Recording Studios, News room, Library, and various broadcast gadgets also witnessed processes involved in news production and transmission to the general public.

Some of the students including Opeyemi Abdulazeez, Abdulsamod Ademola and Fatimoh Abdulwasiu while narrating their experiences said the excursion had not only motivated them to study harder but had broadened their horizon in broadcasting to explore.

In an interview, the head of Arts department of the school who led the students to Radio Nigeria, Mrs. Tosin Egbeniyi said the excursion was meant to create sense of worth in the students and have background knowledge on the career prospects in arts.

Mrs. Egbeniyi said the choice of Radio Nigeria for the excursion followed the exceptional professionalism and facilities at its disposal as a foremost broadcast institution in Nigeria.

Mrs. Egbeniyi who said parents should encourage their children in their chosen course also advised school administrators to take their students on excursion to expose them to many career opportunities.

Nigerians have been advised to find ways of assisting teachers that had positively impacted them in the journey of life to encourage the teaching profession.

President of Education, Gender Youth and Family Network, EDUGUF-N, Professor Helen Bodunde gave the advice in Abeokuta in a statement to celebrate the 2020 World Teachers day.

Professor Bodunde explained that people need to appreciate the teachers by offering them tangible gifts as a sign of gratitude and accomplishments. 

While wishing all teachers at all levels of education a happy World Teacher’s Day, She urged them to look forward to a conducive environment for dissemination of knowledge and good remuneration. 

The president of EDUGUF-N also advised the leadership of the country to develop the role of teachers as the primary and germane foundation for a peaceful society. 

She described the theme for this year’s celebration, ‘Teachers: Leading in Crisis, reimagining the future” as very apt enabling the teachers to know their rights and responsibilities and the need for further education.

As part of efforts toward broadening the horizon of young minds and raising the aspirations of students, the pupils of Police Children School 3, Iyaganku, Ibadan have embarked on an excursion to the Broadcasting House of Radio Nigeria, Dugbe, Ibadan.

The pupils were not only exposed to various processes involved in the transmission of news and programmes of Radio Nigeria but also saw facilities such as the live and recording studios, audio consoles, microphones, and lots of other facilities.

Speaking on the rationale behind the excursion, the school’s Assistant Head Teacher, Academics, Mrs Evelyn Anunukem said the exercise was meant to expose the pupils to areas of interest in carrier choice and development.

Mrs Anunukem who said learning should not be limited to the classroom alone however urged parents and school’s administrators to undertake excursions regularly to expose the pupils to occupational realities in order to motivate them.    

Some of the pupils expressed delight for the exposure given them.

They, however, appealed to the management of the school to sustain the programme for the benefit of the students.
