Ogun Gov. Appoints Kayode Adewale as Education Ambassador

In a landmark event held at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has appointed Kayode Adewale as the Ogun State Education Ambassador.

 The recognition comes in light of Adewale’s nomination as one of the Top 50 Teachers globally by the Varkey Foundation, supported by UNESCO, for his extraordinary contributions to transforming lives and communities through education.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Abiodun lauded Adewale, a mathematics teacher at Imagbon/Imaka Comprehensive High School, for his unwavering commitment to educational excellence.

“As a state that prides itself on being the education capital of Nigeria, we are immensely proud to celebrate one of our own. Kayode Adewale has earned a place among the Top 50 teachers globally in the prestigious Global Teacher Prize. His innovative teaching methods and dedication to transforming education have brought local and international acclaim,” the governor said.

Kayode Adewale, a proud alumnus of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, has a history of remarkable achievements. In 2020, he was named the Best Teacher in the Senior Category in Ogun State. By 2023, he emerged as the second runner-up for the Best Teacher in Nigeria. 

His focus and consistency have made a significant impact on the education sector, transforming the lives of countless students in Ogun State and beyond.

To honour his achievements, Governor Abiodun announced a series of rewards for Adewale. These include a bungalow in any part of Ogun State of his choice and a cash prize of ₦5,000,000. 

The governor described these gestures as a way to inspire Adewale to continue his outstanding work and to encourage others in the education sector.

“Kayode Adewale’s story shows that with dedication and focus, there are no limits to what can be achieved. His contribution to the Ogun 517 Go-to-Space initiative and his relentless pursuit of educational excellence have earned him laurels internationally while positively impacting his locality,” Governor Abiodun added.

The governor also urged younger generations to emulate Adewale’s zeal and commitment, promising that his administration would continue to support initiatives that promote educational excellence in Ogun State.

As a native of Ago-Iwoye, in the Ijebu North Local Government Area, Kayode Adewale’s achievements underscore the rewards of hard work and dedication. His appointment as Ogun State Education Ambassador marks a new chapter in his career and highlights the government’s commitment to celebrating and empowering exceptional educators.

Prince Dapo Abiodun concluded by reaffirming his administration’s dedication to fostering excellence in education, stating, “There is indeed a reward for hard work.”

Naval Base, Dockyard to Spring up in Ogun

The Ogun State government has concluded plans to do the groundbreaking of a naval base and naval dockyard at Ode-Omi, Waterside in Ogun East Senatorial district 

The naval base and the dockyard, according to the Ogun State governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, would help to fortify security architecture in the state being a coastal region 

Speaking at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, while playing host to the Flag Officer Commanding, FOC, Western Naval Command, Lagos, Rear-Admiral Michael Oamen on Tuesday, Governor Abiodun explained that the state government has approved and released a hundred hectares of land to the Nigerian Navy for the project

Governor Abiodun submitted that the naval base and the dockyard are important to the state with the sitting of a seaport at Olokola and the proposed oil exploration at Tongeji Island which he said has received the blessing of all the authorities concerned adding that the project would also be of help to complement the activities of the security outfit in the Niger-Delta area by diverting some of its operations to the new naval base 

The governor, while assuring the Nigerian Navy of the needed support towards the successful flagging off of the project, stated that all the bottlenecks that may impede the program would be sorted out

Congratulating the new Flag Officer Commanding, Rear-Admiral Michael Oamen, Governor Abiodun described him as an experienced officer who has displayed exemplary performance in his chosen career promising to support him with all the necessary machinery to achieve his vision for the command

Rear-Admiral Michael Oamen earlier in a remark said he was in the state to thank the governor for his giant strides in providing effective security in the state and also for supporting the Navy secondary school located in the state

The Naval officer assured that he would partner with the state government towards strengthening the existing security measures in the state for adequate protection of lives and property

Abiodun Commiserates with Suleja Tanker Explosion Victims

Governor of Ogun State and Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum (SGF), Prince Dapo Abiodun, has described the tanker explosion which claimed 77 lives and left 25 others injured,along Dikko-Maje Road in Suleja, Niger State, as a devastating tragedy.

In a statement released on Sunday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Governor Abiodun expressed deep sorrow on behalf of the governments and people of the southern states.

He extended condolences to Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, his administration, and the people of Niger State, urging them to remain resilient in the face of such a heartbreaking event.

The governor prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased and wished the injured a swift recovery.

He also called on state and federal agencies to intensify efforts in addressing the aftermath of the tragedy.

Prince Abiodun also appealed to the federal government to collaborate with the Niger State Government and provide any necessary assistance during this challenging time.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has reaffirmed the importance of national unity, emphasizing that Nigeria’s indivisibility is non-negotiable.

Speaking at the Special Parade and Wreath Laying Ceremony to mark the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held at the Arcade Ground, Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the governor called on citizens to join hands with all levels of government to safeguard the nation’s integrity.

Governor Abiodun highlighted the significance of the annual event as a solemn occasion to honour the sacrifices of the nation’s military personnel who laid down their lives to protect Nigeria from internal and external threats.

He expressed optimism about the country’s potential to achieve greatness once again, urging Nigerians to prioritize the commemoration of these heroes in their daily lives.

“It is crucial to ensure that Nigeria remains united and indivisible. This is one of the most meaningful ways to honour the sacrifices of those who fought for our nation,” the governor stated.

Governor Abiodun stressed the need to remember the sacrifices of the fallen heroes beyond the annual celebration on January 15.

The ceremony featured the symbolic release of doves, symbolizing peace, and the laying of wreaths by Governor Abiodun, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, the Chief Judge of Ogun State, Hon. Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, as well as traditional rulers, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, the Chairman of the Nigeria Legion, the Commandant of the 35 Artillery Brigade, representatives from the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, and the widow of one of the fallen heroes.

The event served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces and the collective responsibility of all Nigerians to uphold the unity and peace of the nation.

Stampede: Southern Governors’ Forum Commiserates with Makinde, Oyo State

The Southern Governors’ Forum has commiserated with the government and people of Oyo State over the stampede at a funfair party held at Islamic High School, Basorun, Ibadan which claimed the lives of 35 children. 

The chairman, Southern Governors’ Forum and the governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun paid a visit to Governor Seyi Makinde at the Agodi, Secretariat, Ibadan to sympathise with him. 

While speaking on behalf of the forum, he described the incident as very unfortunate, praying God to give the families of the deceased the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. 

Governor Abiodun therefore enjoined event planners and charity organizations to always work with the government while planning charity gestures for proper planning with a view to preventing the reoccurrence of such incidents. 

Responding, Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde appreciated Governor Abiodun for the visit.

Governor Makinde, however, noted that his administration is ready to partner with Ogun State in areas of interest to bring more dividends of democracy to the people and residents of both states.

Oyebanji, Abiodun Celebrate Muslims on Eid Festival

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has congratulated the Muslim Ummah for witnessing this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival.

The Governor in a goodwill message by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr Yinka Oyebode, urged Muslims to imbibe the lessons of love and sacrifice that the season symbolizes as they celebrate the Sallah.

He also stressed the need for them to reflect on the significance of the sacrifice epitomized by the festival as well as promote the virtues of Islam.

The Governor who expressed optimism that Nigeria would overcome its current challenges, urged Nigerians not to relent in their prayers for the country at this critical time in its history.

Mr Oyebanji also urged the Muslim pilgrims performing this year’s Hajj to use the opportunity of their presence in the holy land to pray for peace, progress and prosperity of the state and Nigeria as a whole.

Similarly, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has called on Muslim Ummar in Nigeria to use the occasion of the Eid-El-Kabir celebration to reflect on the teachings of Prophet Ibrahim and strive to emulate his unwavering faith, obedience and dedication to God .

In his goodwill message to all the Muslims across the world and Ogun State in particular, Governor Abiodun emphasized the importance of submitting to the Almighty God and prioritizing spiritual well-being over worldly desires.

He highlighted the significance of selflessness, compassion, and the willingness to make sacrifices for the sake of faith and the betterment of humanity.

The governor added that Sallah presents an opportunity for Muslims to gather with their families, strengthen their bonds, and share in the blessings of the festive period.

Governor Abiodun however urged muslim faithfuls to take advantage of Eid to get closer to their Creator, foster unity and harmony within communities, and inspire people to be beacons of compassion, generosity, and righteousness.

Abiodun Makes Case for Creation of Appeal Court in Ogun

Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun has solicited for the creation of the Court of Appeal division in the state.

Governor Abiodun made the plea on Wednesday when he played host to the President Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mense in his office at Oke-mosan, Abeokuta. 

The Governor explained that the creation of the court of appeal, Ogun division would relieve the high workloads on the Ibadan division.

Rolling out some of the achievements of his government in the judiciary, Prince Abiodun noted that the administration created a special court to deal with the issue of cultism, operationalization of the customary court of appeal, and the multi-door court.

He expressed his administration’s commitment to the welfare and well-being of Justices for them to dispense justice in time.

Earlier, the President, Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mense said the team of Justices came to decongest the Ibadan division of the Court of Appeal of pending appeals.

She lamented the heavy load of appeals and the continued depletion of Justices of the Court of Appeal.

On the entourage was the Chief Judge of Ogun state,  Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, the Presiding Judges of the Ibadan, Ilorin, Abuja and Yola Courts of Appeal among others.

Abiodun Commissions Siun-Owode Road, Promises More Development

Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun says his government will continue with its infrastructural drive, especially in the area of road construction as a catalyst for economic growth and development.

Governor Abiodun spoke at the commissioning of the six-kilometre (first phase) of the Siun-Owode-Ofada Road in the Obafemi Owode Local Government of the state.

Speaking at the event, which was attended by the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulrahman AbdulRasak, Governor Abiodun emphasized the importance of road construction in the overall development of the state. 

The governor described the newly rehabilitated road as an alternative to the ever-busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, adding that it would also impact positively on the socio-economic development of communities along the road.

He said the construction of the road was a testimony to the dedication to strategic and methodical development of infrastructure across the state to enhance the socio-economic landscape as enshrined in the “Building our Future Together” agenda of his administration.

“The road represents a vital link between communities to boost local economies and connect all those coming from Abeokuta to Siun, Owode up to Mowe. This local government is where people work in Lagos but reside and commute daily”.

“The road is an alternative for people from Abeokuta to Lagos. It will significantly impact the socio-economy development of the state,” the governor noted.

He added that the road is the first to be commissioned this year, just as the Mowe-Ofada Road has been completed, adding that his administration would soon commission more roads including the Ilaro-Owode Road and the Gateway International Cargo Airport at Ilisan.

Governor Abiodun listed Obantoko, Gbonogun, Ikorita Meje-Aderinde-Olokotutu, Olomore-Sanni, Somorin- Kemta-Idi-Aba, Panseke-Adigbe as well as the Olusegun Osoba-Toyin-Agbado as some of the roads that have been attended to in Ogun Central Senatorial District, even as he pledged that more roads would be put in good shape soon. 

He spoke on why some road projects were delayed, blaming the development on the high price of construction materials.

He said: “We have had a slowdown on construction due to the situation of things in the country in the last few months which has not allowed for objective pricing of construction materials”.

“But for us, construction represents a lot. Besides the fact that road construction allows for the movement of goods, services, and people, the construction industry is the largest employer of labour. So, we will continue to prioritize construction.”

He called on the people to take ownership of the road and other infrastructure provided by the government by protecting them as they were commonwealth and taxes were used in providing them.

In a remark, the Kwara State governor, who is also the Chairman, Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrasak, praised Governor Abiodun for the infrastructural revolution going on in the state.

According to him, the Abiodun-led administration has judiciously invested in the commonwealth of the people.

Governor Abdulrasak said he has visited other states in the country but was impressed with the level of development in Ogun State.

He called on his colleagues from other parts of the country to take a cue from Ogun State by providing their people with the needed infrastructure to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

The Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Shuaib Afolabi Salis, recalled that the road was pencilled down for reconstruction in 2022 and expressed appreciation to the governor, for not abandoning the road like his predecessors.

Senator Salis called on the people to make good use of the road as it belongs to them.

The Ogun State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Yemi Sanusi, described the road as historic to the Egba people because of its interconnectivity with various communities and its importance to the commercial activities of the communities along the road.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, Mr Adesina Ogunsola appreciated the state government for reconstructing the road and for providing a 7.5 KVA transformer to Owode to restore power to the town.

In his welcome address, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engineer Ade Akinsanya said the road, which was in bad shape for many years, was reconstructed with a standard drainage system to conform to the federal government’s specification for highways.

The event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele, former deputy governors, members of the National and State Assemblies, traditional rulers, and party stalwarts, among others.

Ogun Disburses State Educash to Students

In fulfilment of his promise to the people of the state, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has announced the commencement of the disbursement of 10,000 naira, known as “Ogun State educash” to students of public primary and secondary schools across the state to cushion the effects of the economic hardship rocking the nation 

Our correspondent reports that parents have begun to receive the cash transfer on behalf of their children at schools in Ogun Central Senatorial District.

The disbursement exercise supervised by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, led by its Commissioner, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu was flagged off in some of the Public Schools in Ogun Central Senatorial District  where a large number of parents received the money directly on their phones.

Some of the Schools where the exercise took place included Baptist Girls College, Idiaba, Abeokuta Grammar School, Idi-Aba and African Church Grammar School, Ita-Eko in Abeokuta South Local Government, Unity High School at Ago-Ika, Baptist Boys High School, Saje and Ebenezer Grammar School, Elega and St Peters College, Olomoore in Abeokuta North Local Government. 

While addressing the Parents of the beneficiaries, the Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Professor Arigbabu said the cash disbursement meant for the indigent students was part of Governor Abiodun’s agenda of enhancing educational development in the state

Professor Arigbabu advised the parents to use the money for the purpose it was meant for by equipping their children with all necessary things that would improve their educational standard.

The Commissioner stated that the disbursement exercise would be extended to the other two senatorial Districts in the state.

Reacting to the gesture, some of the Parents lauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for the cash disbursement. 

Some Parents who spoke with Radio Nigeria at the various schools visited, described the ten thousand naira cash incentives as a relief that would help them to provide some of the things needed by their children In the face of the ongoing economic challenges. 

The Parents prayed to God to empower the Governor to do more good things for the people of the state. 

Also speaking, the Principal of Baptist Girls College School One, Mrs Stella Wendi and the Principal of School Two, Mrs Idowu Adebukola commended the Governor, stating he has done well in the education sector since assumption of office .

Gov. Abiodun Promises Support for Nigerian Army

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has promised to provide the necessary support to the Nigerian Army in the discharge of its responsibility of protecting the lives and property of the citizens.

Governor Abiodun made this known at the Nigerian Army 2023 West Africa Social Activities held at Alamala Barrack, Abeokuta Ogun State.

The governor who was Represented by his deputy, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele commended the efforts of the Nigerian Army and other sister agencies in addressing insecurity challenges in the state, urged them to redouble their efforts, especially in the face of the myriad of security threats in the nation.

Earlier, the Commander 35 Artillery, Brigadier-General Mohammed Aminu commended all the officers and soldiers of the Brigade for the successes recorded last year and urged them to do more in 2024, while pledging the commitment of the Nigerian army to continue to strengthen its operations. 

He appealed to residents to continue to share credible information that would aid the Brigade’s operations, and also assured them of the sustenance of adequate security.

The 2023 WASA witnessed Cultural Troupe display, Tug of War and presentation of awards to the deserving personnel of the Brigade among others. 

WASA is an annual event organized by Nigerian Army formations across the country to temporarily take officers and soldiers away from their routine military regimentation into a social atmosphere to unwind and interact after an eventful year.

Abiodun Hails Stakeholders On Standardization of Yoruba Orthography

There is need for all stakeholders to work together towards enhancing the standardization of Yoruba Language to ensure its preservation, continuity and global recognition.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun stated this while inaugurating the International Conference on Yoruba Language Orthography Committee organized by The Yoruba World Centre in conjunction with Yoruba Wikipedia, Dawn Commission, Yoruba Language Teachers in College of Education and Egbe Akomolede Yoruba held at John Paul II Hall, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State.

The governor, represented by the Ogun State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Naimot Oyedele, commended the co-ordinator of The Yoruba World Centre, Mr. Alao Adedayo, Wikipedia Yoruba, Dawn Commission, media and theatre arts practitioners as well as all stakeholders for organizing the event, saying the process will review and update the existing orthography and enhance the smooth take-off of the new national language policy in Yoruba language.

Earlier in a welcome address, the Co-ordinator, Yoruba World Centre, Mr. Alao Adedayo, who is also the Publisher of Alaroye Group of Newspapers said the body is not embarking on the formation of a new Yoruba Language Orthography but is teaming up with major stakeholders to review the existing one.

Also speaking, the guest of honour at the event, Emeritus Professor Ayo Bamgbose commended the efforts of the Yoruba World Centre and other stakeholders for their efforts in the sustenance of the Yoruba language, culture and tradition, stressing that the review was necessary and timely.

Another stakeholder, the Co-ordinator of Wikipedia Yoruba, Mr.Olatunde Isaac expressed happiness on the programme as it would broaden Yoruba language globally, especially on social media.

Scholars of Yoruba Language, media practitioners from both print and broadcast media, theater arts practitioners attended the event.

Economic Downturn: Ogun to Inject N5billion into Economy

As part of efforts to mitigate the ongoing economic downturn in the country, Ogun State government has concluded plans to inject a total sum of five billion naira into the state’s economy for the benefit of residents.

The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun made this known while briefing newsmen at the Olusegun Osoba Press Centre, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.

Governor Abiodun lauded the people of the state for their perseverance, tolerance and endurance in face of the food inflation and other economic challenges.

The Governor said the state government was not unmindful of the challenges and this had necessitated the implementation of various interventions by the State Government to cushion the effects. 

While rolling out some of the interventions already put in place by his government, Governor Abiodun said all the indigent students in both primary and secondary schools in the state would now enjoy a sun of 10,000 naira as education grants, while indigent students in tertiary institutions would benefit a sum of fifty thousand naira each

In the health sector, the governor said 70,000 residents including market women, pregnant women, children and aged ones would benefit from the state health insurance scheme worth eighteen thousand naira each, adding that all pregnant women would enjoy free antenatal and postnatal care with take-home of five thousand naira 

The governor revealed that more food palliatives such as rice, garri and other easily procurable food items would be provided for 450,000 households in the state.

He also stressed that the present administration is committed to offsetting the backlog of inherited deductions through the payment of five hundred million naira on a monthly basis as workers continued to enjoy the ten thousand naira monthly transport allowance with other incentives 

The governor while commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for being passionate about the welfare of Nigerians, urged the people of the state and Nigerians at large to continue to support the renewed hope agenda of the federal government.

Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has described as tragic the death of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Access Holdings Plc, Mr. Herbert Wigwe in a helicopter crash in the United States of America.

Wigwe, his wife, son, and three others, including Abimbola Ogunbanjo, former chairman of NGX Group Plc, died when their helicopter crashed near the border of California and Nevada on Friday night.

Governor Abiodun described the incident as a devastating loss for the families, friends, and the entire business community in Nigeria.

The governor described Wigwe as a quintessential banker who contributed immensely to the Nigerian economy, adding that he was a pillar of support to his administration’s agenda.

According to him, Wigwe’s death has created a void that will be difficult to fill.

He condoled with the families of the deceased, the management and staff of Access Holdings, the business community, and the Rivers State government on the tragic incident.

He said: “I am deeply saddened by the news of the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Herbert Wigwe and five others. My thoughts and prayers are with their families during this difficult time”.

“Herbert Wigwe was not only a respected business leader but also a role model for many aspiring entrepreneurs. His contributions to the banking sector and the Nigerian economy will always be remembered.”

Prince Abiodun also condoled the Ogunbanjos on the death of the former chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, (NGX Group), Chief Abimbola Ogunbanjo in the crash.

Chief Abimbola Ogunbanjo was born into the family of the late Chief Chris Ogunbanjo of Erunwon in Ogun State.

Prince Abiodun described the late Ogunbanjo as not just an exceptional businessman but also a man of great character and integrity.

The governor noted that as chairman of NGX Group Plc, the deceased played a vital role in shaping the Nigerian financial market and contributed to its growth and development.

“His dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to excellence have left an indelible mark on the industry.”

“In moments like this, words seem inadequate to express the magnitude of our loss. As a state, we extend our deepest condolences to the Ogunbanjo family, friends, and colleagues. We share in your grief and sorrow, and we stand by you during this difficult time,” he added.

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has sworn in three judges of the State High Court and State Customary Court with a charge to use their vast experience to accelerate dispensation of justice in the state.

The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Cinema Hall, Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, was attended by Chief Judge Justice Modupe Dipeolu, Deputy Governor, Naimot Salako, Ogun State Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, Deputy Chief of Staff Toyin Taiwo, judges, and government officials.

Governor Abiodun, in his address, urged the newly appointed judges to resist temptation, uphold honesty, and adhere to truth in their judgments. 

He emphasized the crucial role of the judiciary in safeguarding politics in Ogun State and advised the judges to prioritize justice, uphold the people’s customs, and ensure equity and fairness in their decisions.

Highlighting the significance of professionalism, Governor Abiodun encouraged the newly appointed judges to discharge their duties with dedication and honor, serving the state diligently. 

He expressed gratitude to Chief Judge Modupe Dipeolu for maintaining the integrity, discipline, and truthfulness of the state judiciary. 

The governor concluded by affirming his commitment to supporting the welfare of all judiciary members.

Abiodun Condoles Oyo Govt Over Explosion

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has described Tuesday’s explosion in Ibadan, Oyo State, as a monumental tragedy.

In a condolence message to his Oyo State counterpart, Engineer Seyi Makinde, the government and the people of the state, Governor Abiodun regretted that the wanton loss of lives and the destruction of properties was due to neglect and criminality.

The governor praised the swift response of the Oyo State government, which promptly dispatched first responders to the scene, thereby saving more lives.

This was just as he expressed absolute confidence that the Oyo State government would ensure that the perpetrators of the dastardly act were apprehended and prosecuted, saying that the government is on top of the situation.

He said: “I extend my deepest condolences to the government and the people of Oyo State following the tragic explosion that occurred in Ibadan on Tuesday. 

“Our hearts go out to the families who lost their loved ones and those who were injured in this devastating incident. We stand in solidarity with the people of Oyo State during this difficult time and offer our full support in the recovery and rebuilding efforts.

“The quick response by the state government, no doubt, saved more lives, and this is commendable.

“May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may the injured find strength and healing. Together, we will overcome this tragedy and emerge stronger.”

Governor Abiodun added that Ibadan is strategic to every Yoruba person given its historic importance, adding that the governments of the South-West states would not be deterred by the tragic incident, but would “jointly intensify security across our states to ensure that our people are safe and secure.”

Nigeria Will Rise Again says Abiodun

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has called on Nigerians to have faith in the current political system, the government and its leaders, saying the country is on the verge of rising again.

He also called on them to shun all acts of violence or acts that do not define them as a people.

The governor stated this during the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held at the Arcade Ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Prince Abiodun also called on Nigerians to continue to be their brother’s keeper, urging them to stay away from sowing discord among themselves.

The governor urged Nigerians to subscribe to the spirit of nation-building and nationalism while supporting the families of fallen heroes.

“Let us eschew the spirit of brotherhood amongst ourselves. Let us uphold the spirit of not just nationhood but optimism. Let us have faith in our system, our government, and our leaders. Nigeria is on the verge of rising again.

“For those of us that are not privileged or bold enough to join the armed forces, we should subscribe to nation-building and patriotism.

“We should not be the ones that continue to sow the seed of discord amongst ourselves. We should not begin to fan the flame of discord amongst ourselves; let us be our brother’s keeper.

“Let us shun all act of violence or acts that do not define us as a people, acts that does not define us as citizens of the biggest conglomeration of black people on the continent,” he said.

Prince Abiodun charged Nigerians to show an act of kindness to the patriots who paid the ultimate price for defending the territorial integrity of the country by reaching out to the families they left behind, saying that the government cannot do it alone.

The highlight of the event included the release of pigeons to signify peace and the laying of a wreath by Governor Abiodun, Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, the Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Micheal Adedotun Gbadebo.

Others were the Akarigbo and Chairman, Ogun State Council of Obas, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, the Olu of Ilaro and paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle and the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona who was represented by the Orimolusi of Ijebu-Igbo, Oba Lawrence Adebajo.

Governor Abiodun Appeals for Approval Remo Economic Zone

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has appealed to the federal government to approve the operation of the Remo Economic Zone as a Free Trade Zone.

The governor, who made the plea when he received the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite and her team in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, noted that the approval was needed to enable processing companies that have signed to process their raw materials in the zone commence operations.

He emphasized that the zone would record multiple processing companies willing to sign up to begin work in the zone in the next year if the approval was given, saying out of the six Special Agro Processing Zones, the state has the highest number.

The governor said his administration has created four economic zones in the last four and a half years, in addition to the existence of the Agbara Industrial Zone.

While intimating the minister of efforts to further attract investments to the state, Governor Abiodun informed that his administration would soon sign a memorandum of understanding, MoU with its partner to commence the construction of the Deep Seaport at Olokola to complete the circle of economic zones in the state.

The governor thanked the minister for the visit, noting that it would further cement the relationship with the government at the centre.

In her remark, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite applauded the state government for its developmental strides, saying the springing up of industries in the state was a confirmation of the conducive business environment and the availability of necessary infrastructure that attracts investors.

Dr Uzoka-Anite said as the industrial capital, Ogun State has distinguished itself as a pioneer and leader in developing, expanding and attracting industries with ease, adding that the visit would enable her and her team to rub minds with the officials of the state government on how best to be of help to each other.

Perpetrators of slained director will be brought to justice – Gov Abiodun

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has assured the family of the slain Director of Finance and Administration in the Governor’s Office, Mr. Taiwo Oyekanmi and the people of the state that the perpetrators behind the killing will be caught and brought to justice.

Prince Abiodun also said his administration would take full responsibility for the welfare and well-being of the family Mr Oyekanmi left behind.

Governor Abiodun stated these when he paid a condolence visit to the home of the deceased former director on Thursday.

Governor Abiodun described the deceased as diligent, hardworking, honest, and God-fearing.

He said the Governor’s Office and the entire state workforce have been devasted by the killing, assuring that everything possible will be done to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Governor Dapo Abiodun said the death of Oyekanmi was a painful reminder that life is a journey, adding that the deceased lived a life of impact, touched everybody, and is well respected by everyone.

Responding on behalf of the family of the deceased his younger brother, Tayo Oyekanmi thanked the governor for the visit even as he said destiny has been shattered, dreams cut short, not only in the family but the entire Ifonyintedo community in Ipokia Local Government Area of the state.

He urged the governor to unravel the people behind the killing in no distant time to assuage the pains of the family.

Mr. Oyekanmi was attacked and murdered on Wednesday in the Abeokuta metropolis while on an official assignment.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has sworn in four newly appointed permanent secretaries.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony held at the Exco chambers, Governor’s office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, Governor Abiodun noted that the new appointees were selected from a pool of qualified directors.

Congratulating the newly appointed permanent secretaries, Governor Abiodun urged them to work closely and collaboratively with the commissioners in their various ministries.

The state helmsman promised that his administration would continue to prioritize policies that guarantee the welfare of civil servants in the state.

He disclosed that the sum of one hundred and twelve billion naira had been paid as pension and gratuities to both retirees of state and local governments by his administration since assumption of office.

Ogun Government Pledges Support for Families of Onalapo Soleye and Ekundayo Opaleye

Ogun State government has pledged its support to the families of a former Minister of Finance, Dr Onaolapo Soleye and a former military governor of old Ondo State, Major General Ekundayo Opaleye, who both passed away this month.

The state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun made these commitments while paying separate condolence visits to the residences of the great illustrious sons of the state who just passed away.

Governor Abiodun assured both families that the state government would set up a committee to collaborate with them in preparations for the final burial rites of the deceased, noting that both of them deserved a dignified funeral in recognition of their impact on Ogun State and Nigeria in general. 

The governor described both Dr Soleye and Major General Opaleye as epitomes of diligence, patriotism, and unwavering commitment to the development and progress of Nigeria.

Former Ondo Military Administrator, Ekundayo Opaleye is Dead

A former military governor of old Ondo State, Retired Major General Ekundayo Opaleye is dead.

He reportedly died on Saturday at his residence in Ibara Abeokuta, Government Reservation Area, GRA, Ogun State. 

The late High Chief, Balogun Erunmu of Owu Kingdom in Abeokuta was the military governor of old Ondo State, before the creation of present-day Ekiti State, between August 1986 and December 1987, during the regime of former Military President Ibrahim Babangida.

He took over from the late Admiral Mike Akhigbe and handed over to Commodore Olabode George. 

Meanwhile, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has described the sudden demise of the former Ondo State Military governor, as a great loss to Ogun State and Nigeria.

In a statement through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Lekan Adeniran, Governor Abiodun said late Major General Opaleye would be remembered for his patriotism as a military officer and dedication to duty as an administrator. 

The governor extended his condolences to the bereaved family, assuring them of support and prayers at this painful period, while encouraging them to find strength and solace in the memories shared with the late elder statesman.

Onaolapo Soneye’s demise, a great loss – Gov. Abiodun

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has described the death of a former Finance Minister, Dr. Onaolapo Soleye as a great loss to Ogun State and Nigeria at large.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Lekan Adeniran, Governor Abiodun said Dr Soleye’s invaluable contributions to the financial sector of Nigeria and his home state, Ogun, will forever remain evergreen and his demise would leave a vacuum that would be difficult to fill. 

“He will be remembered as a statesman, a mentor, and a role model for future generations to come. His wisdom, integrity, and dedication to public service can never be overemphasized.”

Governor Abiodun, however, extended his deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the nonagenarian.

Dr Soneye was a former Minister of Finance between 1984 and 1985 during the military regime of General Muhammadu Buhari.

He served for twenty (20) months as Minister of Finance.

He also served as Commissioner for Finance and Industry in Ogun State. 

His death was announced on Wednesday by his family in Abeokuta.

Governor Adeleke Makes Adire Compulsory for Workers, Political Appointees

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has directed all public officials, appointed and elected, to start wearing Adire Osun every Wednesday to boost the industry and enhance the cultural strength of the state.

In a circular issued by the Head of Service, Mr. Ayanleye Aina, Governor Adeleke noted that the directive affected all categories of public servants across ministries, departments and agencies of government including tertiary institutions, local governments, local development councils and area offices.

Consequently, every Wednesday is adopted as the Adire Osun Day with all officers and heads of agencies expected to comply with the directive as also with all political appointees too.

Governor Adeleke had presented the subject at the last State Executive Council meeting with a unanimous approval and adoption.

He noted that Adire actually has its source from Osun State, stressing that the new decision will reassert the traditional claim of the state to the Adire genre.

Court Reserves Judgement on Adebutu Appeal Case

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), have urged the Court of Appeal to dismiss the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Ladi Adebutu against the judgment of the Ogun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which affirmed the victory of Prince Abiodun during the March 18 elections.

At the hearing of the appeal by the Appeal Court, sitting in Lagos, Abiodun, APC, and INEC told the 3-man panel of justices, led by Justice Joseph Shagbaor Ikyegh that the appeal by Adebutu and PDP, lacked merit and was ambitious.

The Tribunal had on September 30, dismissed the petitions by Adebutu and his party and affirmed the re-election of Governor Abiodun.

Leading the charge, counsel to first Respondent (INEC), A.J. Owonikoko SAN urged the Court to dismiss the appeal for lacking in merit.

Reacting to the issue of 49,000 disenfranchised voters, raised by the Appellants’ counsel (Chief Chris Uche SAN), Mr Owonikoko referred to paragraphs 4.37 to 4.40 at pages 18 and 19 of his Brief to point out that Appellants only called 48 witnesses. He explained that in cases of disenfranchisement, all the disenfranchised voters must be called as witnesses but Appellants did not do so. He concluded that the Court cannot amplify 48 witnesses to 49,000 witnesses as Appellants want.

He urged the Court to dismiss the appeal

Counsel to the 2nd Respondent (Prince Abiodun), Chief Wole Olanipekun SAN, also identified and adopted his Brief.

The Court of Appeal reserved judgment to a date to be communicated later.
