Osun State government has distributed 100,000 cocoa seedlings to about 1,000 farmers in the state.

The state government also distributed agro-chemicals, hand-spraying tools, limes and other farm inputs to about 1,000 farmers across the all the Local Government Areas.

The government also inaugurated Osun Broilers Outgrowers Production Scheme III (OBOPS) to enhance livestock production capacity.

Speaking during the event at the Agriculture Demonstration Centre, Aisu, in Ede South Local Government Area of the State, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola said government’s efforts were geared towards repositioning agriculture and making Osun State the food basket of the nation in general and in the Southwest in particular.

He added that the initiative was designed to support farmers and cushion the effects of the erratic weather that occurred last year, which resulted in prolonged drought and flooding in different parts of the state.

Governor Oyetola hinted that approval had been given for the establishment of 10,000 hectares of farmland to be used as a farm settlement at F3 in Ife-South Local Government in which 400 hectares of the farmland had been cleared to empower one thousand (1,000) youths in the cultivation of arable crops, while 23 hectares of farmland was cleared at Ifon, in Orolu Local Government as a Demonstration Site for youths and women empowerment and agro processing centres.

The governor further emphasized that the initiative would support the systematic replacement of the existing old cocoa plantations and other permanent crops with improved high-yielding varieties to make Osun the largest cocoa producer in the Southwestern part of Nigeria.

Farmers in each of the Local Government Area across the state got 1,500 cocoa seedlings with priority given to the cocoa producing local government areas of the state.

In a remark, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Dayo Adewole, assured that the state government would be supplying farmers with buds, day-old chicks and feeds so as to aid them in launching the scheme in their respective domains.

Also speaking, the Chairman of All Farmers Association of Nigeria, AFAN, Osun State Chapter, Alhaji Sulaiman Araokanmi, commended the prompt intervention of government to revamp agriculture in the state.

Some of the beneficiaries of the farm input distributed by the government who expressed delight, lauded the kind gesture extended to them by the Oyetola-led administration.

Also some of the direct beneficiaries of the cocoa intervention programmes, Mr. Omoloye Akanmu, Mr. Rabiu Omowole; Alhaji Adesanya Aderemi; Mrs. Christiana Ogunsaya; Alhaja Asifat Bukola and Mr. Adedayo Kayode, said the initiative would go a long way to rekindle their hope in the survival and viability of agribusiness in the state.

The governor of Osun State, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola has flagged-off the construction of 33KV power supply line from Ile-Ife to Garage-Olode (Awolowo Town) and Ifetedo/Garage Olode 33KV power supply. 

The power project is coming after 10 years of power outage in the affected areas.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony at Garage-Olode, Ife-South Local Government Area, Mr Oyetola said the project occupied a strategic place in his administration’s agenda to empower the benefiting communities to contribute substantially to the development of the state. 

He said his administration had been working closely with Niger Delta Power Holding Company, NDPHC, to ensure quick and prompt delivery of the project.

The Osun State helmsman explained that part of the reason the project was delayed up till now was the need for a permanent solution rather than a palliative. 

Mr Oyetola who identified some of the projects executed in the areas, said his administration, under the Partnership for Expanded Water Supply, Sanitation &Hygiene (PEWASH) programme, had earlier facilitated the sinking of 11 new solar-powered Boreholes and 5 new Hand pump boreholes. 

In his remarks, Member, Osun House of Assembly representing Ife-South State Constituency, Mr. Benjamin Ogundipe, described the project as one that would bring succour to the people of his constituency.

The Executive Director (Networks), Niger Delta Power Holding Company, Mr Ife-Oluwa Oyedele, lauded Governor Oyetola for continually taking the welfare and general wellbeing of the people as his topmost priority.

Earlier in their separate remarks, the Olubosin of Ifetedo, Oba Akinola Akinrera, and the Olu of Olode, Oba David Omisore, expressed their profound gratitude to the governor for taking their subjects out of protracted darkness that had paralysed the socioeconomic activities of the areas in the last ten years.

The power intervention efforts will also help to power towns and villages such as Iyanfoworogi, Aye Coker, Aye-Oba, Wanikin Eleja, Egbejoda, Idi Obi and Ali Ahanran in this first phase, and when completed, the project will cover the entire Ife South Local Government and the LCDA.

Osun State Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola says success of any organization is a function of a visionary leader and fervency of their readiness to drive their followers to pursue a common corporate goal to guarantee its development.

Governor Oyetola stated this at this year’s Retreat of the Chief Executive Officers of Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers in Ilesa.

According to him , leadership had a responsibility to adopt inclusiveness by tapping members’ talents to build the organization.

In a remark, the commissioner for  insurance in the country, Mr Sunday Thomas , who was represented by Mr Gbenga Jayesinmi emphasized the zero toleration to violation of extent law and guidelines  governing the conduct of insurance.

Mr Thomas  cautioned members against unnecessary delay in claims settlement that might  trigger the use arbitrary clause, soliciting their  cooperation to leverage on benefits of professionalism with a view to gaining customers’ confidence.

In her welcome address, the president of the Nigerian Council  of Registered Insurance  Insurance  Brokers , Mrs Bola Onigbogi urged participants to make best use of the opportunity provided by the retreat to improve their services to their clients.

Osun State Governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola has approved the sum of One Billion, Six Hundred and Forty-four Million Naira for the payment of outstanding pension and gratuities of retired civil servants in the State.

According to a press release signed by the Head of the State’s Civil Service, Dr. Festus Oyebade, the sum of Five Hundred and Eight Million Naira of the released sum was approved for the payment of retired civil servants under the old pension scheme.

An additional sum of Four Hundred Million Naira was also earmarked to pay selected retirees under the Contributory Pensions Scheme.

The sum of One Million Naira was released for the payment of gratuities of retired officers under the old pensions’ scheme, bringing the total amount released for retired officers in the State’s service to One Billion and Eight Million Naira Only.

The Head of Service adds that the governor approved the release of Six Hundred and Thirty-eight Million Naira to retirees in the teaching and local government service.

According to the release, the list of beneficiaries of the approved sum has been pasted on the notice board of the Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation, the State’s Pension Bureau and the Office of the Head of Service.

Payment of the released funds is to start Tuesday, 15th June 2021.

Osun State governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola has consoled the Osun State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu, over the death of his mother, Madam Rafatu Ajikeola Ajadosu, who died on Wednesday, at the age of 91.

The governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan in Osogbo, described her death as a painful loss, saying that no matter how old our parents are, their departure is always keenly felt.

Governor Oyetola who also extended his condolences to the entire family of Ajadosu of Ile Esa Oni Ayowo compound, Obaagun area of the state urged them to take heart and be comforted in the fact that Mama was blessed with old age and lived a fulfilled life, in devotion to Allah and service to humanity.

He added that the care and wise counsel of the matriarch would be greatly missed by those she left behind.

Some youths on Thursday stormed the streets of Iloko-Ijesa in Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State protesting the delay in the appointment of a traditional ruler for the community.

They carried placards with inscriptions such as “E Gbawa Ni Ilu
Iloko”, “Governor Oyetola Approve Our King” and “Iloko-Ijesa Nfe Oba”.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria, a youth leader, Mr Lawrence Odeyemi
expressed displeasure that eight years after the demise of the late
Owaloko of Iloko-Ijesa, Oba Oladele Olasore, the community had been without a king.

The youth leader said government had conducted an election for
eligible princes without the notice of the community and failed to
install the winner.

Mr Odeyemi explained that the absence of a king had stalled the
execution of developmental projects like schools, modern markets and
the proposed dam project in the community.

He then called on Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State to urgently approve the appointment of a king to ensure normalcy returns to the ancient town.

Osun State governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola has canvassed mass participation in the All Progressives Congress, APC, membership registration and revalidation exercise.

Governor Oyetola stated this at the flag-off of the APC membership registration and revalidation exercise in Ila-Orangun and Iragbiji, the headquarters of Ila and Boripe Local Governments.

The governor said the registration exercise became necessary as it would afford the leadership of the party the opportunity to update the membership register of the party by accommodating new members while also enabling existing members to revalidate their membership.

Osun State governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, has congratulated President of 9th Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan as he turns 62. 

A statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Ismail Omipidan, the governor said he joins Lawan’s immediate family, political associates, friends and colleagues at the National Assembly to wish him an amazing 62nd birthday. 

Governor Oyetola described the Senate President as “a worthy leader, fine lawmaker, progressive politician and patriotic Nigerian” who has contributed significantly to the development of the nation.

He also hailed Senator Lawan for demonstrating capacity and providing purposeful, responsive and inclusive leadership at the National Assembly, which he said, was evidenced by the numerous achievements recorded by the Assembly since June 2019. 

According to him, the Senate President’s exemplary leadership style is also responsible for the existing harmonious relationship between the legislature and the executive arms of government.

The Governor of Osun State, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola has signed the 2021 Appropriation Bill of about 109 billion naira into law.

Signing the budget in his office, Mr Oyetola said the estimate would offer greater hope of job opportunities; improved welfare for all; human, capital and massive infrastructure development than the previous year.

The governor said his administration was resolved to follow time-tested economic principles to enhance optimum results of the 2021 budget.

He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to employing creative and probity strategies in the implementation of the budget to effect maximum performance.

The governor who described the budget as a product of reality, said modalities had been put in place to ensure that the budget offered more hope as government is determined to perform better than before.

The Osun State helmsman maintained that, the state was on the path of delivering its development agenda in the year 2021 with 54 percent for capital and 46 percent for recurrent expenditure allocations and creative income strategies. 

He announced that the 2020 budget recorded over 90 percent performance and the results were demonstrated in the massive delivery of programmes and projects across the state during the year, despite the fact that government was only able to perform for less than six months because of the lockdown occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic and the EndSARS protest.

While presenting the Year 2021 Appropriation Bill to the governor for signing, the Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Mr Timothy Owoeye, commended the governor for his sterling performance in the implementation of the 2020 budget.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Professor Olalekan Yinusa, maintained that the success of the 2020 budget was due to the ingenuity and proactiveness of Governor Oyetola in spite of the challenges witnessed during the year.

He said the 2021 budget was prepared based on realistic and stringent conditions to meet the statutory obligations.

The Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, Mr Timothy Owoeye has congratulated the governor of the state, Mr Gboyega Oyetola on the celebration of his two years in office describing the two years of Oyetola-led administration in the state as one that has contributed to the transformation of the state.

The speaker in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Alabi commended the administration for doing everything possible to bridge the gap between government and the citizenry through frequent engagements with the public on government policies.

The Osun State governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola is to present 2021 budget to the Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, on Tuesday.

This is contained in a letter sent to the speaker, Mr Timothy Owoeye which was read during the plenary session.

The speaker, urged members to be on ground by 10 O’clock in the morning for the plenary and budget presentation.

Earlier, the speaker, had also read a letter forwarded by the governor, titled, “Medium Term Expenditure Framework 2021 to 2023”, to which the governor is seeking approval of the assembly to implement.

Mr. Owoeye said the governor is seeking speedy consideration, ratification and passage of the expenditure framework, saying its financial submission forms part of the 2021 budget of the state.

He said the expenditure framework contains what the government have and intend doing for the people of the state in the next three years.

In a press release signed by the Head of Service, Mr Festus Olowogboyega Oyebade, the sum of Five Hundred and Eight Million Naira of the total sum was approved to pay the pensions of retired civil servants while one hundred and fifty million Naira was approved to pay retirees under the contributory pensions scheme based on merit.

According to the release, additional fifty Million Naira was approved for the part payment of the gratuities of retired officers under the old pensions scheme.

The release says the list of beneficiaries selected on merit has been pasted on the notice boards of the Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation, the State’s Pension Bureau, and the Office of the Head of Service.

It is also stated that payment of the approved funds will commence Thursday, 5th November 2020.

Osun State governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola says there will be no extension of amnesty beyond the 72 hours earlier announced for looters to return stolen items.

He stated this while speaking with newsmen in Osogbo.

Governor Oyetola said he had been briefed that the returned loot
represented about 20 per cent of the total stolen items, thereby urging
those who are yet to heed to the call to so do within the next 24 hours.

He warned that after the expiration of the 72-hour amnesty as announced, government would go after the looters and make them face the wrath of the law.

On the curfew imposed on all parts of the state, the governor said he would meet with security chiefs to review the curfew and come out with a resolution.

The Osun State helmsman noted that the level of compliance has been very impressive and if it could be maintained, there was no point preventing people from going about their normal daily activities.

Osun State governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, has directed full documentation and registration of all commercial motorcycles operations and operators in the state within the next two weeks.

Governor Oyetola who gave the directive at a meeting with the leadership of the associations of commercial motorcycle operators in the state also ordered a daily 8 PM closing of operation period for them.

The governor said anyone who is not covered in the registration risks suspension of their operations.

He described the move as part of efforts to firm up security in the state, following recent looting, vandalization of government and private properties and general disruption of peace.

The Osun State governor expressed displeasure at the way motorcycle operators allowed themselves to be used to cause unprecedented damage around the state in the last few days.

Mr Oyetola maintained that commercial motorcyclists were involved in ferrying looters from house to house to perpetrate evil as well as being paid to transport hoodlums to destroy people’s businesses.

He said the government was aware that okada business was a source of livelihood and not all of them were criminals but the events of the past few days had shown that the criminal elements among them had become a threat to the peace of Osun State.

In their response, the representatives of the various associations of the commercial motorcyclists in the state apologised to the governor for the role some of their members played in causing devastation across the state and promised to comply with the directives of the state government.

Osun State Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola has declared 72 hours amnesty period for looters of individuals and private property to return their loots or face the consequence of the law.
Governor Oyetola stated this in Osogbo after monitoring the extent of damaged and looting in the state.
The governor who described the act of the hoodlums as armed robbery said any person who failed to return the loot within 72 hours would face full wrath of law.

He noted that government would do everything within its limit to support individual and industries affected by the attack.

Osun State Government has declared a twenty-four hour curfew on all parts of the state.

In a state broadcast, Governor Gboyega Oyetola said the step became necessary to forestall further breakdown of law and order and protect the lives and property of citizens and residents.

The development follows looting and vandalization of both Government and private property by hoodlums in all parts of the state.

According to him, the curfew will be indefinite to prevent the current state of anarchy from degenerating into large-scale breakdown of law and order.

While warning that Violators of the curfew rules would be prosecuted in line with the extant laws of the State, the Governor assured residents of their safety.

The curfew had been suspended in the state 24 hours ago.

The #EndSARS protest on Saturday afternoon turned bloody in Osogbo as hoodlums attacked governor’s convoy and damaged several government vehicles.

Many people were severely wounded as many others scampered for safety.

Some victims have been rushed to Asubiaro State Hospital for medical attention.

Before it was disrupted, Governor Gboyega Oyetola had assured the protesters that all those who sustained any form of injuries during #EndSARS protest will be taken care of by government.

The governor who first apologised for not being able to address them since the protest started in the state assured the protesters that he believes in the genuine intention of the protest.

He told the protesters that the presidency has directed all state governors to constitute judicial panel of inquiry to look into the SARS activities before it was disbanded.

The atmosphere later became tense with the protesters not given any chance of peace as they started throwing dangerous objects at convoy including the vehicle that conveyed the governor.

Habitants of Oke-Padi, Ola road, Ejigbo in Osun State have made a ‘Save Our Soul’ cry to the State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola over their community which has been badly affected by heavy rain.

The habitants, in a message to the Governor, said if urgent intervention was not made, their community would soon be swept away by flood.

They appealed to Governor Oyetola to come to their rescue as they were no longer safe, while also lamenting that flooding had paralysed all activities in the community.

Osun State Commissioner for Finance, Mr Bola Oyebamiji, has congratulated the state governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola on his 66th year’s anniversary describing him as a selfless leader.

In a statement in Osogbo, Mr Oyebamiji lauded Governor Oyetola for his courage, forthrightness and diligence in providing exemplary leadership in the State.

He prayed God to continue to give the governor wisdom and knowledge to take the state to an enviable height, saying governor Oyetola had recorded appreciable achievements in all facet of economy in the last two years.

In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the council Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu and Bukola Elufadejin described Governor Oyetola as a trail blazer and passionate leader who was keen to economic and infrastructure development.

The statement described governor Oyetola as selfless and courageous leader who has used his age long experience in private sector to change the face of governance in the state.

It assured the governor that the union would continue to support  plans and policies of his administration that is in tandem with yearnings and aspirations of the people of the state.

The statement prayed God to continue to give the governor wisdom and knowledge to take the state to an enviable height.

In a related development, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Timothy Owoeye congratulates Governor Gboyega Oyetola on his 66th birthday anniversary describing him as a passionate leader having economic and infrastructure development of the State at heart.

The Speaker in his congratulatory message noted that Governor Oyetola has used his wealth of experience to change the face of governance in the state.

He assured the Governor of the Legislature’s support to the policies of his administration to ensure development of the State as well as yearnings and aspirations of the people of the state.

Mr. Owoeye while urging the Governor to continue his developmental programmes, prayed God to continue to give the governor wisdom to take the state to an enviable height.

Tourism

Osun state Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola has restated his administration’s commitment to prioritise tourism for huge economic gains and rapid development of the State.

Governor Oyetola who stated this at year 2020 Olojo festival in Ile Ife assured that his government was fully aware of the abundant opportunities inherent in the preservation and promotion of the state’s heritage and tourism.

He said government was resolved to prioritise the tourism sector as one of the economic pillars to drive the State’s economy.

Governor Oyetola described as huge the contributions of culture and tourism infrastructure to the economic development of the State hence the need for government to give priority to the sector.

The governor said government was making stringent efforts to build a sustainable tourism industry in the State through collaboration with local and international partners.

In a remark, Oni of ife,Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi maintained that culture remained symbol of identity, saying critical stakeholders in the tourism sector must be alive to their responsibilities by promoting Yoruba culture to international community.

Oba Ogunwusi emphasized the need government to harness the nation cultural potential for employment and wealth creation.

Members of political parties have been advised to have a good and smooth relationship with one another for development.

The Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Mr Timothy Owoeye gave the advice during the screening of Mr Adebayo Waliu Salma as Commissioner of Judicial Service Commission at the hallowed chamber of the Assembly in Osogbo.

Mr. Owoeye said, there was need to have the interest of Osun State to fast track development in every part of the state.

He described the Governor’s nominee as good ambassador of the state who will not disappoint Government and the people of state in the discharge of his duty.

Similarly, the Speaker introduced the new Special Adviser to Governor Gboyega Oyetola on Legislative Matters to the members of Osun House of Assembly, Mr. Kamil Oyedele.

He described new special adviser as a man of honour who is now an intermediary between the Executive and Legislative arm of government.

He urged him to ensure good relationship between the two arms of government and maintain the integrity he’s known for during his tenure as lawmaker in the state.

In their various remarks, the lawmakers described Mr. Kamil Oyedele as good leader and mentor full of experience, straight forward and a financial expert.
