Some residential buildings, schools and electricity power lines have been damaged by rainstorms in Ibadan yesterday.
Radio Nigeria correspondent, who monitored the situation, reports that the roofs of some buildings in Agbowo and Orogun were blown off by the storm.
Aside from branches of trees that fell on the roads, power cables along major roads as well as IBEDC mast were also damaged by the storm.
Radio Nigeria also observed that some buildings at Orogun Grammar School were badly damaged with some roofs blown off by the storm.
In an interview, two residents in Orogun, Mr Sakiru Iyanda and Mr Kazeem Oladejo said the storm was severe, causing lots of damage to their buildings and Orogun Grammar School.
They appealed to the government to urgently intervene in the rehabilitation of the affected properties.
Two persons have been injured in an accident involving two horses and three commercial motorcycles on Abbey/Academy road, Odo Ona Elewe,Ibadan.
Radio Nigeria correspondent who witnessed the incident said the two horse riders, between the ages of seventeen and twenty lost control and collided with themotorcyclists.
The motorcyclists fell on the horse riders while the horses gallantly walked out of the incident without sustaining any injury.

It took the effort of Radio Nigeria correspondent who witnessed the incident to calm the mob who wanted to unleash jungle justice on the horse riders.
Motorists, Traders and other road users alike, narrowly escaped death on Thursday morning when a petrol tanker lost control around Molete bridge in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Our correspondent who captured photos of the incident reported that the break of the tanker failed as it was descending the road leading to Molete roundabout, close to the brigde, but was stopped by the fence of a filling station close by,
Very near the filling station were some beggars who usually sit by the roadside to solicit for alms.
Former Commissioner for Health, Oyo State, Dr Azeez Adeduntan has congratulated the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun as he took the staff of office.
In a statement in Ibadan, Dr Adeduntan felicitated with the monarch for the privilege to ascend the throne of his forefathers.
Dr Adeduntan, who is the All Progressives Congress, APC, Governorship hopeful in Oyo State urged Oba Balogun, to follow the footsteps of his predecessors by working diligently for peace and development of Ibadan, Oyo State and Nigeria.
He called on the monarch to do his utmost best, in his new role as the chief custodian of the traditions of the people, to preserve and propagate the admirable culture and customs of Ibadanland.
The former Commissioner assured the new Olubadan of his support and cooperation “as the new Olubadan strives to lead our people forward and contribute meaningfully to the development of his domain, Oyo State and the nation’’.
Dr Adeduntan who is also the Osi Bashorun of Ibadanland prayed that the Almighty God would grant Oba Balogun long life, good health and wisdom for a successful reign.
The Cheif of Army staff, COAS, Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya has called on the newly retired officers from the rank of colonel and below of 2 division Nigerian Army Ibadan not to relent at making the military proud through the conduct.
Lieutenant General Yahaya stated this during a regimented dinner organised in honour of the year 2021 retired officers from the rank of colonel and below, by the 2 Division Nigerian Army, held at the Tiger Officers’ Mess, Agodi, Ibadan.
He said the services of the retired personnel would be re-engaged in order to strengthen the capacity of the fight against insurgency across the country.
The COAS, who was represented by the General Officer Commanding, GOC 2 Division, Major General Gold Chibuisi, said the move would allow the Nigerian Army to continue to enjoy the benefits of the wealth of experience and professionalism that the retirees have gathered over the years.
He noted that the experiences and expertise of the retirees would be relevant to enhancing the fighting efficiency of the Army.
“Without doubt, those experiences and expertise would be relevant to enhance fighting efficiency of our Army. In its numerous fighting operations”.
“The Army is still open to your invaluable contributions towards attaining her constitutional mandate and would always welcome your support in that regard. I urge you all never to rest on your oars, even in retirement until this war is brought to an end in favour of the Armed Forces and by extension, our nation.”
He appreciated the invaluable contributions of the retired officers colonel and below to the territorial integrity and the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Nigeria while in service, urging them to continue to fulfil the obligation.
He promised to leave no stone unturned in the delivery of their welfare packages as and when due, declaring that the health facilities in various barracks and cantonments of the Nigerian Army across the country are available to the retirees.
“Please note that my administration remains committed to enhancing the welfare of our retired or discharged personnel, within the powers of my office. I implore you all to fulfil your obligations even as retired officers towards defending the territorial integrity of Nigeria as espoused in your oath of allegiance. I also urge you all to shun all forms of misconduct or actions capable of bringing the Army to disrepute in retirement, as you are seen as worthy ambassadors of the Nigerian Army.”
The guest of honour at the event, Governor Seyi Makinde, represented by deputy Chief of Staff, Abdul-Mojeed Mogbonjubola, congratulated the retired military officers and urged them not to relent until the fight against the enemies of the state is over.
“To the retired officers but not tired, you have put a beautiful service here to serve your nation and I’m saying at this point in Nigeria, you can be called anytime. Be ready to continue serving your nation. God bless you and have a wonderful retirement life”
At end of the ceremony, souvenirs were presented to the retired military personnel, while a minute silence was observed in memory of fallen army officers.
The new Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Lekan Balogun wiil be installed next month,11th March,2022.
This is contained in a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary, Oyo State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Secretariat,Ibadan,Mr B.A Olarenwaju and made available to our correspondent.
The letter indicates that, Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the installation of High Chief Lekan Balogun as the 42nd Olubadan on 11th March,2022 .
It reads, “I wish to refer to a letter No. IBSELG.243TI/17 of 16th of February,2022 on the above subject and inform you that his Excellency,the Executive Governor of Oyo State has approved Friday,11th of March,2022 as the date of the installation of the new Olubadan of Ibadan. Once again, Congratulations, Kabiyesi”.
It would be recalled that Governor Makinde approved the appointment of High Chief Lekan Balogun as the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland, on 14th February.
The step became imperative following the demise of Oba Soliu Adetunji on Sunday 2nd January,2022.
Property worth thousands of naira have been destroyed in a fire incident at olorunsogo – Molete area of Ibadan, Oyo state
According to some residents of the area, the fire started in the early hours of today and burnt some shops in the area.
Our Correspondent who visited the scene of the incident said affected shop owners were still counting their losses and could not ascertain the exact amount of money destroyed in the fire incident.
Reacting to the inferno, the Chairman, Olorunsogo Landlords and Residents Association, Pastor Vincent Ayodeji explained that the fire incident initially started on Friday afternoon and the community succeeded in putting it out unknown to them that the incident would resurface in the middle of the night.
The Director, Oyo state fire service Mr Ismael Adeleke explained that the fire incident occured as a result of indiscriminate burning of refuse .
He expressed displeasure that the fire service had earlier cautioned the shop owners against indiscriminate burning of refuse.
Radio Nigeria gathered that few shops that were affected included those used for furniture making, fashion designing and a provision store.
The new Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Lekan Balogun has assured the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, CCII that the confidence reposed on him will not be abused .
He also pledged his support to members of the socio-cultural group that he would not let them down.
He stated this while receiving the executive council of the CCII led by its President-General, Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga at the Alarere residence of the new Olubadan.
The new Olubadan, who acknowledged the activities of CCII which he described as dynamic and progressive, praised it’s doggedness, patriotism and sacrifice for the good of Ibadanland stressing that he had no choice than to give them all the necessary support.
Earlier, the President-General, CCII, Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga had on behalf of the Council told the Olubadan that the purpose of the visit was to formally congratulate him on the ratification of his appointment as the new Olubadan by the state Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde.
Prince Adeaga recalled the controversy that ensued immediately after the passage of Oba Saliu Adetunji over his successor, but, which by the grace of God had become history.

The CCII boss also said his Council played its role to ensure that the brouhaha did not get out of hand and praised the new Olubadan for the opportunity given them to function, noting that without the support and approval of the monarch, it would have been difficult to make any intervention.
Alluding to the intellectual prowess of the new Olubadan, Prince Adeaga said, “Kabiyesi, your exposure in the areas of academic, politics, business and social interaction has made our task easier. At CCII, we are to ensure that Ibadan dignity is at all time preserved and to now have a man of dignity and candour on the throne, our job becomes very easy.”
“We are to function based on your directive, Kabiyesi. When you want us in the front, we will be there, and if it is at the back that you want us, we are ready. We will be working based on your authority and directive and we are confident of your leadership as a man of many parts and with robust and rich credentials”, he added.
The CCII helmsman gave the new Olubadan an update on the new Ibadan Palace at Oke-Are and disclosed that it would gladden the hearts of his executive members if Oba Lekan Balogun becomes its first occupant.
He acknowledged Ibadan unique style where each monarch maintains private palaces, but stressed the need for an Ibadan Palace, the purpose of which he said the on-going one at Oke-Are would serve.
Prince Adeaga hinted the new Olubadan that whatever step to be taken on the new palace would be subjected to his ratification noting that “whoever the Kabiyesi wants as members of the committee handling the building project among his members of Olubadan-in-Council would be included”.
The wife of the Oyo state governor, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde has called on society to extend psychological and emotional support to victims of Female Genital Mutilation.
Mrs Makinde gave the advice at the commemoration of this year’s Female Genital Mutilation, FGM, Day.
The wife of the Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Mrs Faosat Sanni noted that when needed support was rendered to victims of FGM it would help reduce the trauma to the barest minimum.
The director of the population and reproductive health, Dr Oladosu Ojengbede who explained that Oyo state ranked 3rd among states with the highest cases of FGM noted that with an ongoing awareness of the dangers inherent in the act, the number was reducing.
The state reproductive officer coordinating Female Genital Mutilation, Mrs Balqis Olawoyin said the traditional circumcisers had been working together with them to put an end to the act.
Patron Circumcision Descendants Association of Nigeria, Chief Abiola Ogundokun noted that cutting of female genitals does more harm than good, thereby appealed to other circumcisers engaged in the practice to desist from it.
Chief Ogundokun however, called on the government to empower them as circumcising children had been an age-long source of income for them.
Participants were drawn from PFN women wing, FOMWAN, NASFAT, traditional birth attendants among others.

Investigations revealed that the goods were offloaded by yet to be identified Truck drivers and some criminal elements.

The second assembly of Oyo state youth Parliament has been commissioned, having Mr Israel Fawole from Ibadan south East constituency 2 as the new speaker.
In an open ballot election conducted by the clerk of the youth Parliament, Mr Isiaka Adetunji, the new speaker polled twenty three votes to defeat his opponent, Mr Ojo Aderemi, Ibadan north constituency 2 who polled 3.
The Parliament also elected its deputy speaker, Miss aishat Oladiti representing Lagelu constituency who won with seventeen votes to beat her contender, Mr Ogundiran Oluwaseun Orelope constituency.

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Sunday, expressed shock at the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso 1, describing him as an exemplar in royalty. Makinde stated that the demise of the royal icon, who he described as a great leader of his people and an exemplary royal father, was painful despite his old age, adding that his wisdom and wealth of experience would be sorely missed. The governor expressed his condolences to the immediate family of the Olubadan, the Olubadan-in-Council and all Ibadan indigenes as well as the Oyo State Traditional Council. A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, quoted the governor as saying that Kabiyesi gave his all to see that Ibadanland is developed and took its pride of place as one of the major cities in Africa. “The news of the death of our father, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso I, came as a shock. “Kabiyesi’s exit at this time is painful, to say the least. His wealth of experience, his immense wisdom and his commitment to seeing a greater Ibadan and a better Oyo State are unrivalled. “Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria and humanity at large will miss Kabiyesi, who was ever ready to give his all to see a better society. “I commiserate with his immediate family, the Olubadan-in-Council, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) and all Ibadan indigenes at home and abroad on the demise of our father. “I equally extend my condolences to the Oyo State Traditional Council and pray to God to keep all our Obas safe and give them more years to direct the affairs of our people, especially as Olubadan’s death is coming on the heels of the demise of the Soun of Ogbomosoland and Asigangan of Igangan. Born in Ibadan , Western Nigeria in 1928, he was the first of 17 children.
Popularly known as Baba Alaje . He set up one of the foremost record labels in Nigeria OMO AJE RECORDS which he founded in 1957, a nod to his ability to sell stuff for profit, Aje being the Yoruba goddess of Enterprise and Wealth.
Baba Alaje evolved from being just a record store owner to becoming a music promoter and distributor of different Yoruba Musicians of that era: Tatalo Alamu, Dauda Epo Akara, Jimoh Ayinla Anikura, etc
At age 48 in 1976, he became de facto head of the family and changed Omo Aje to Babalaje.
Perhaps , his most important musical legacy is that he gave young Wasiu Ayinde a chance to be his own man after tutelage with the great Sikiru Ayinde Barrister.
His breakout album Talazo 84 was released under Babalaje Records and the two worked together on no less than 20 Wasiu albums from Talazo in 1984 to Fuji collections in 1991.
In 2016, Saliu Adetunji became Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji , Aje Oguguniso 1, the 41st Olubadan of Ibadan.

The Oyo State Joint- security task force, Operation Burst has recovered some stolen Apple phones from a suspect in Sabo area, a few days to the New Year celebration.
The security outfit said the recovery was made during its raids on black spots and hideouts for criminals in Ibadan.
Director-General of Oyo State Joint Security Task Force, Operation Burst, Colonel James Oladipo retired, confirmed that about twenty-three Apple phones were recovered from the suspect, who is now at large.
Oladipo said that this was part of Outfit’s efforts to protect lives and property in the state especially during the ‘Ember months.
“We have been on the trail of criminals who have been terrorising citizens and residents at strategic locations, especially in Sabo area of the state,” he said.
He said that a surveillance team of the Joint security task force, recently, raided some ‘Blackspots’ in Ibadan where the Apple phones were recovered.
Oladipo therefore called on victims who were recently robbed of their Apple-phones, otherwise known as I-Phones within Ibadan to come forward with proof of ownership, to reclaim them.
The Director-General, while assuring the public of the Task force’s immediate response to distress calls, urged them to give useful information that will aid Security Agencies in performing its duties.

Radio Nigeria football team came from 2 goals down to earn a 2-2 draw against NTA Ibadan in a novelty match to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Premier FM Ibadan.
NTA Ibadan created the opening chances of the game and raced to a two-goal lead before Radio Nigeria pulled one back to make it 2-1 before halftime.
