Federal government has handed over 20 Compressed Natural Gas, CNG, buses to the Oyo State government.

The handing over ceremony was held at Pacesetter Transport Services, PTS, office in Ibadan, Oyo state Capital which is the first of its kind in the country.

The initiative, according to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal and promote safer, cleaner and reliable means of transportation.

Speaking at the event, the President, who was represented by the Chief Executive Officer, CEO and the Programme Director, of Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, P-CNGi, Michael Oluwagbemi said the CNG buses are not gifts to the state but in flexible terms with operators that the fund raised would be redeployed into purchasing another set of vehicles to sustain the Initiative.

He said the approach was one of the testimonies to Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to make life easy for Nigerians, considering the importance of transportation to the nation’s economy.

He said:“ President Tinubu is asking us to use our gas to thrive in transportation, and industries, produce more foods and fertilizers as well as other things that will make life easier for the people.

“We are beginning to do the right thing but this requires us to taste some pains. We can’t go back to subsidize our impoverishment. As a team, we are determined to show our commitment.

We are here to present 20 buses as a sustainable partnership with Pacesetter Transport Service, PTS, to generate income because they are assets. We can effectively ensure that the future of Oyo State and Nigeria are brighter.”

In a remark, the Chairman, of Pacesetter Transport Service, Mr Ibrahim Salami said the presentation of CNG buses is a good development by the federal government to reduce hardship faced by Nigerians following the removal of fuel subsidies.

Mr Salami said the buses when operational would ease the burden of people in the state.

Also, the Special Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Environment, Ademola Aderinto, said CNG is a far cheaper form of energy, noting that the initiative would also promote a healthier life as it would prevent the emission of carbon monoxide always caused by combustion engines.
