According to a layman, yawn means opening of mouth widely to express what message the body system is passing across to the person involved, at that particular time.

There are three ways to determine which type is happening to the person which is: hunger, tiredness or sleep.

Hunger: When someone is hungry, the person will start yawning consecutively, and it is until the food is being devoured by the person, that is when the yawning stops.

Tiredness: This is another way of stating that, the cause of the yawning is tiredness.

Peradventure, after having a very long day or suffering stress, one could start yawning uncontrollably, and until rest is accomplished, that is when it would stop.

Sleep: Sleep, they say, is a nature that can never be cheated in any way. It cannot be avoided. Therefore, in some cases, people tend to yawn in the sense of preparing to shut down for body restoration. When sleep is taken as expected, one will regain strength and awakeness.

According to medical research,

Yawn: Involuntary opening of the mouth, accompanied by slowly breathing inward and then outward.

Repeated yawning can be a sign of drowsiness, boredom, or depression.

The yawn helps to open tiny air sacs, alveoli, in the lungs that can collapse during shallow breathing.

Yawing is associated with sleepiness and boredom.

However differently, it is theorized that yawning is not a sign of sleepiness or boredom, but actually, a reflex that your brain induces to wake you up or make you more alert.

According to research, every human experiences this unavoidable and uncontrollable act in their body system.

I am convinced you can understand one thing or the other from the little explanations given towards the word ‘ YAWN’.
