Preparing a girl child for the future where she achieves her vision is a joint task that must be undertaken by the society.

The girl child who is being confronted with many challenges confronting her in the society needs survival skills to maintain a balance that would help shape her dream and vision.

These were part of the submissions of the wife of the governor of Oyo State, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde, at a programme to celebrate this year’s International Day of the Girl Child, held at the House of Chiefs, Government Secretariat, Ibadan.

“Your vision can be short or long term, it must propel you to finish strong and well, your vision must help you to put in extra efforts to do more, whether you want to be a doctor, lawyer or engineer, it must propel you to become who you want to be. Write your vision down in a way you can understand, envision your dream, think about where you want to see yourself, don’t allow anyone to distract you“, she charged the girls.

Mrs Makinde who noted that a clear vision gave direction thereby making goal and purpose reality, advised the girls to imbibe the “Can-Do” spirit and jettison anything that can discourage or distract them from achieving their goals.

In her words, a senior special welfare officer, Mrs Celestina Adediran, told the girls to take a cue of determination and being focused from famous and great women in the society such as Chimamanda Adichie, Oprah Winfrey, Helen Paul, Michele Obama among others.

Two among the girls who attended the event, Juliet Adeyefa and Deborah Oladejo promised to pursue their visions and achieve them, no matter the hindrances.

The programme featured awards and presentation of laptops to best students in the 2023/2024 WAEC Examinations, cultural display, quiz and comedy.

The theme of this this year’s International Day of the Girl Child is “Girls’ vision for the future”.Dignitaries at the event included, the Head of Service of Oyo State, Mrs Olubunmi Oni, Commissioner for Special Duties, Alhaja Faosat Sanni, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Miss Wasilat Adegoke.
