Nigeria may risk being out of census trend among international comity of nations if the country fails to conduct this year’s census.

Federal commissioner, National Population Commission, NPC in Ondo State, Dr Oladiran Iyantan said this at a breakfast meeting with media executives on  2023 Population and Housing census held in Akure.

Dr Iyantan described the last census held over seventeen years ago as obsolete with outdated data that could no longer be relied upon for effective planning and policy making.

He explained that the 2023 census had attained 80 percent stage hence the need for its timely completion to save cost.

Aside from about 8000 personal digital assistants delivered to Ondo State, the NPC federal commissioner also hinted that the commission had done recruitment, configuration, enumeration, demarcation among others

In a remark, Ondo NPC State Director, Mr Oluyemi Falusi appreciated the media in Ondo State for making their platforms available for the commission.

Speaking at the event, State’s Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Prince Leke Adegbite who expressed journalists’ readiness to support NPC, enjoined the Commission to reciprocate by providing the media with required information for balanced reports.
