The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNAAB, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdur-Rasheed Olabomi Odundun IV, the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, has commended the Federal Government’s significant advancements in agricultural mechanisation and its persistent efforts to boost food production across the nation.

The 15th Aragbiji also highlighted the university’s readiness to collaborate with the Federal Government to further its impactful initiatives. 

According to the monarch in an interview with newsmen, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has recently approved the acquisition of 2,000 tractors, 4,000 disc ploughs, and 1,200 tractor-trailers. 

He noted that the acquisitions were integral components of the National Agricultural Mechanisation Programme (NAMP), aligning with the Visitor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s emergency declaration on food security, aiming to catalyse farming activities and fortify the nation’s food security.

The pro-chancellor emphasised that the strategic move was designed to strengthen food security throughout Nigeria, adding that the commendable efforts of the Federal Government also aligned with FUNAAB’s Mandate of Teaching, Research and Extension Services, as well as parts of its goals to advance agricultural development and innovation.

“FUNAAB stands ready to partner with the Federal Government in these critical agricultural initiatives. Our University has the expertise and resources to support and enhance these programmes, ultimately contributing to the nation’s food security and agricultural sustainability.

The highly revered monarch, also the 8th Pro-Chancellor of the University, stressed that FUNAAB remained committed to playing a pivotal role in the agricultural sector, leveraging its academic, research, and community engagement capabilities to support national development goals.
