Medical doctors in Ogun State, under the aegis of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA have commenced an indefinite strike action due to unresolved disputes regarding their allowances.

The strike, which began on Saturday, August 3rd, 2024 was primarily aimed at addressing the salary disparity between federal and state medical workers.

The State’s Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association, Dr Kunle Ashimi who made this known at a press conference held in Abeokuta explained that the decision to proceed with an indefinite strike came after a failed 3-day warning strike.

Dr. Ashimi added that the core of the doctors’ grievances centres on the reviewed Consolidated Medical Salary Structure, stressing that aligning the state workers’ salaries with the Federal Government’s would reduce medical migration from Ogun State.

The Chairman emphasized that the union would suspend the strike only if the government agreed to provide a written commitment, in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding, MOU stressing that verbal promises had proven unreliable in the past
