A six-member team of the House of Representatives has visited the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta as part of efforts to formulate legislative frameworks that will enhance National growth and good governance.

The leader of the team, representing Ideato North and South Federal Constituency in Imo State, Mr Ugochinyere Ikenga revealed that the visit was aimed at expressing their solidarity with the former President and learning from his extensive knowledge of development and good governance.

He explained that the members were co-sponsors of bills seeking a single six-year term for the President and Governors, power rotation between the northern and southern parts of the country, as well as a single day for presidential, governorship, national assembly, and state assembly elections.

Also, the lawmaker, representing the Kogi/Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency of Kogi State, Mr Abdulmalik Danga, appealed to Chief Obasanjo to support the call for power rotation across the three senatorial districts of each state to reduce marginalization and dousing agitations among various ethnic groups.

Responding, Chief Obasanjo who noted that the lawmakers’ called for a single-term Presidency, nationwide elections in one day, and power rotation between the North and South were not sufficient to put the nation on the right track, emphasized the need for purposeful leadership and teamwork among Nigerians.

The Former President called for a review of the Western Liberal Democracy Model, involving talks about loyal opposition and urged Nigerians to critically re-examine themselves in the bid to overcome the Nation’s challenges.
