The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has promised to provide the necessary support to the Nigerian Army in the discharge of its responsibility of protecting the lives and property of the citizens.

Governor Abiodun made this known at the Nigerian Army 2023 West Africa Social Activities held at Alamala Barrack, Abeokuta Ogun State.

The governor who was Represented by his deputy, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele commended the efforts of the Nigerian Army and other sister agencies in addressing insecurity challenges in the state, urged them to redouble their efforts, especially in the face of the myriad of security threats in the nation.

Earlier, the Commander 35 Artillery, Brigadier-General Mohammed Aminu commended all the officers and soldiers of the Brigade for the successes recorded last year and urged them to do more in 2024, while pledging the commitment of the Nigerian army to continue to strengthen its operations. 

He appealed to residents to continue to share credible information that would aid the Brigade’s operations, and also assured them of the sustenance of adequate security.

The 2023 WASA witnessed Cultural Troupe display, Tug of War and presentation of awards to the deserving personnel of the Brigade among others. 

WASA is an annual event organized by Nigerian Army formations across the country to temporarily take officers and soldiers away from their routine military regimentation into a social atmosphere to unwind and interact after an eventful year.

Five hundred residents around the Alamala Barrack of the 35 Artillery Brigade in Abeokuta have received free medical treatments from the Nigeria Army medical personnel as part of the ongoing Operation Crocodile Smile Six.

The empowerment programme and medical outreach held at the Army Children School Alamala was also used to empower thirty widows and orphans with freezers, grinding machines, hair dryers and sewing machines.

The General Officer Commanding 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major-General Godwin Umelo while declaring the event open stated that the effort was to strengthen the civil military relationship. 

He said the Operation Crocodile Smile Six focused on cyber warfare designed to identify, track and counter negative propaganda on social media and to attune men of the Nigerian Army to other security threats aimed at disrupting the peace and security of the country. 

The Commander, 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, Brigadier General Emmanuel Amadasun while welcoming the guests noted that, the free medical outreach was facilitated due to lack of health facility in the area. 

The Traditional ruler of the community the Onijale of Papa, Oba Michael Babalola thanked the Nigeria Army for the exercise, describing the programme as impactful.

Some beneficiaries applauded the Nigeria Army for giving back to the community noting that it would improve their businesses and well-being.

The beneficiaries were drawn from the communities around the Alamala barrack and widows within the barrack.
