“I am aware of all of the things listed here as challenges because I have had the opportunity to meet with the NYSC state coordinator and she has made some requests. We are looking at them. We could not do some last year because it was obviously a tough year for everybody in this country and for the whole world.

“We hope to support NYSC in Oyo State, despite the pandemic and other challenges the state is being faced with and we will support them with some of their requests this year.”

Makinde noted further that the NYSC scheme had continued to be a source of personnel for the state, especially from the health and medical sector.

Mr. Attah explained that the NYSC uniform was a national brand and pride of the scheme, which must be respected by all corps as demonstrated by their proper dressing.

He noted that worried by increased reported cases of improper dressing among corps members, the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Shuaib Ibrahim had directed all the area coordinators in the 6 geopolitical zones to enforce the dress code and sanction anyone that flouts it in accordance with the extant laws.

The Southwest Coordinator also appealed to stakeholders and partners of the scheme, particularly the higher institutions to check the embarrassing trend of mobilising unqualified candidates into the one year compulsory national service programme.

Mr. Attah who noted that the society whom the affected corps members are to serve would be the victims of such fraudulent practice, particularly young ones in primary and secondary schools who they are expected to teach during their service year.

On the need for the establishment of NYSC area offices across the geopolitical zones, Mr. Attah explained that such was to effectively decentranlise its operations with a view to bringing service closer to the people as the number of qualified participants for the programme increased by the day.
