Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has described the death of the Pro-Chancellor of the Technical University, Tech-U, Ibadan and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Oye Ibidapo-Obe as a great loss to the state, Nigeria and the academic world. 

Governor Makinde condoled with the immediate family of the late don, who was his lecturer at UNILAG, the UNILAG community and the Tech-U management.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary, CPS, to the governor, Mr Taiwo Adisa states that the late Ibidapo-Obe was a teacher’s teacher and an administrator per excellence, who made great marks on Nigeria’s education sector.

It adds that the former vice-chancellor’s death came at a time his wealth of experience and sterling knowledge of education management are needed by the state and the country.

The Pro-Chancellor of the Technical University, Ibadan, Professor Oye Ibidapo-Obe is dead.

His death was announced on Sunday evening in a statement signed by the institution’s Registrar, Olayinka Balogun.

“With heavy heart, and submission to the will of God I write to inform Council members of the transition to glory of Professor Oye Ibidapo-Obe, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, First Technical University, Ibadan which occurred today 03/01/2021.”

Professor Ibidapo Obe who hails from Ile Ife in Osun State was born on July 5, 1949 at Ile Ife.

He served as a Visiting Research Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the State University of New York at Buffalo, USA from 1980–1981).

In 2007, he was a Visiting Research Professor at Texas Southern University in Houston, USA.

Professor Ibidapo-Obe was later appointed as the Vice chancellor of the University of Lagos in year 2000.
