Fifty-five beneficiaries of the Community Based Agricultural Empowerment Scheme of the National Directorate of Employment, NDE, in Ogun State have been provided with funds to operate off-farm enterprises. 

The farmers were also trained in Agricultural Value Chain activities, including production, storage, processing, preservation and packaging under the Rural Employment Promotions initiative of the NDE. 

The National Directorate of Employment, NDE’s Community Based Agricultural Empowerment Scheme is being promoted in line with the continued efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to generate employment and improve income through agribusiness engagement. 

In a message to the official flag-off and orientation ceremony for the 2023 Community-based Agricultural Empowerment Scheme in Abeokuta, the Director General of the NDE, Mallam Abubakar Fikpo said the gesture was part of the federal government’s efforts to boost national food security.

Mallam Fikpo, who was represented by the Ogun State Acting Coordinator of the Agency, Mrs Ajoke Osinowo said the aim was to enable the beneficiaries to become self-reliant, generate wealth and create employment opportunities for others.  

Also, The Director, NDE Inspectorate Department, Mr Folarin Martins who spoke through Mr Innocent Chikezie encouraged the beneficiaries to make profitable use of the facility towards becoming successful entrepreneurs in Agric – business.

Some of the beneficiaries, including Mr Segun Sowunmi and Mobolaji Akinsanya expressed the hope that the gesture would go a long way in boosting their small scale businesses in Agriculture Value Chain.

They appealed to the federal government to sustain the initiative geared to further address the challenge of unemployment and boost food production in the country.
