The National Directorate of Employment, NDE has warned all those undergoing various vocational skills in the directorate against engaging in disreputable conduct.

The NDE Coordinator, Akwa Ibom state, Mrs Uduak Essien stated this to Radio Nigeria while giving an overview of the state’s directorate activities last year.

Mrs Essien noted that the training of 93,731 unemployed and unskilled persons in the country for creating jobs, was still ongoing.

Describing the engagement of the 93,731 as a component of the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative of the President Tinubu-led administration, Mrs Essien, advised Akwa Ibom trainees to take the training seriously.

She hinted that the inspectorate department of the state NDE office and the Zonal office would from time to time pay unscheduled visits to the training centres to ensure compliance by the participants.

On staff enhanced productivity, Mrs Essien maintained that the enabling environment created by the governor of Akwa Ibom state, Pastor Umo Eno for both federal and state government parastatals have contributed greatly in encouraging the staffs of the Directorate.

The Akwa Ibom State NDE boss, however, reiterated that this year the directorate under the leadership of the Director General, Mr Silas Agara, would not relent in its mandate to create jobs.

Twenty people, classified as unskilled and unemployed women and youths from different parts of Ogun State have been offered the opportunity to become gainfully employed by the National Directorate of Employment, NDE, under its Vocational Skills Development initiative.

Director-General of the NDE, Mallam Abubakar Fikpo while flagging off the training and orientation programme for the beneficiaries in Abeokuta said the women and youths would be trained for 3 months to enhance their productivity and enable them to contribute to nation-building.

Represented by the Ogun State Coordinator of the Agency, Mrs kehinde Osinowo, the Director-General of the NDE said the trainees would acquire skills in computer appreciation and catering services free of charge through the Basic National Open Apprenticeship Scheme.

Mallam Fikpo encouraged the beneficiaries to be focused and committed, restating that President Bola Tinubu’s administration had been deliberate in promoting and ensuring support for all interventions aimed at empowering the youths and creating job opportunities.

Similarly, the Head, of the Department of Vocational Skills Development, VSD, Hajiya Amina-Lewa Shettima who spoke through Mr. Igwesi Onyekwelu urged the participants to regard the skills acquisition training as a major tool for poverty eradication and self-reliance.

Earlier, the Head of VSD in Ogun State, Mr. Owodunni Samuel had explained that different categories of residents, including unskilled men and women, like primary or secondary school leavers, school dropouts, retirees, and vulnerable persons as well as graduates of tertiary institutions were being helped to acquire marketable skills through the training scheme.

Speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries, Temiloluwa Gbeletan expressed confidence that their exposure to the free vocational training would raise their standard of living and empower them to become employers of labour.

The National Directorate of Employment, NDE, has provided 40 graduates of its Community-Based Training Scheme in Ogun State with start-up kits as empowerment to enable them to become self-reliant.

In a message to the event, Director-General of the NDE, Mallam Abubakar Fikpo emphasized that the federal government was promoting youth empowerment, training and capacity building as important tools to tackle unemployment, youth restiveness and crime in society.

Mallam Fikpo who was represented by the Ogun State Coordinator of NDE, Mrs. Kehinde Oshinowo maintained that the growth and development of every economy depended on the quality of labour and manpower, urging the beneficiaries to utilize the skills and knowledge acquired towards generating income.

Mrs, Oshinowo disclosed that beneficiaries drawn from the 20 Local Government Areas of the State were offered the resettlement items as a form of loans, expected to be paid back within 3 years.

Also, the National Director, Vocational Skills Development, Hajiya Aminu Lewa who spoke through Miss Biliqisu Jimada said the purpose of the empowerment was to reduce the number of unemployed youths in the society and improve the socio-economic status of the participants. 

Hajiya Lewa said the participants would be monitored periodically and enjoined them to make judicious use of the starter packs to leverage on the prevailing economic situation in the country, while urging them to also endeavour to train others.

Some of the participants including Miss Adetola Adetokun and Mr Lekan Ajayi promised to take advantage of the gesture to boost their productivity and commended the federal government for the laudable programme that enabled them to showcase their talents.

The forty beneficiaries were supported with start-up kits for different vocations, including Tailoring, Shoe making, Catering, Barbing and Cosmetology.

Fifty-five beneficiaries of the Community Based Agricultural Empowerment Scheme of the National Directorate of Employment, NDE, in Ogun State have been provided with funds to operate off-farm enterprises. 

The farmers were also trained in Agricultural Value Chain activities, including production, storage, processing, preservation and packaging under the Rural Employment Promotions initiative of the NDE. 

The National Directorate of Employment, NDE’s Community Based Agricultural Empowerment Scheme is being promoted in line with the continued efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to generate employment and improve income through agribusiness engagement. 

In a message to the official flag-off and orientation ceremony for the 2023 Community-based Agricultural Empowerment Scheme in Abeokuta, the Director General of the NDE, Mallam Abubakar Fikpo said the gesture was part of the federal government’s efforts to boost national food security.

Mallam Fikpo, who was represented by the Ogun State Acting Coordinator of the Agency, Mrs Ajoke Osinowo said the aim was to enable the beneficiaries to become self-reliant, generate wealth and create employment opportunities for others.  

Also, The Director, NDE Inspectorate Department, Mr Folarin Martins who spoke through Mr Innocent Chikezie encouraged the beneficiaries to make profitable use of the facility towards becoming successful entrepreneurs in Agric – business.

Some of the beneficiaries, including Mr Segun Sowunmi and Mobolaji Akinsanya expressed the hope that the gesture would go a long way in boosting their small scale businesses in Agriculture Value Chain.

They appealed to the federal government to sustain the initiative geared to further address the challenge of unemployment and boost food production in the country.

The National Directorate of Employment, NDE, wants the youths to acquire modern and innovative farming skills that will enable them to take advantage of the employment opportunities in the agricultural sector. 

Director General of the NDE, Mallam Abubakar Fikpo gave the advice in a message to the orientation programme for 100 beneficiaries of the Agency’s Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme, held in Abeokuta, Ogun State. 

Mallam Fikpo who spoke through the Ogun State NDE Coordinator, Mrs Kehinde Oshinowo explained that scheme was designed to empower unemployed persons in the area of Agricultural production and distribution system for profitable farming.

Also, the Director Rural Employment Promotions in the Agency, Mr Edem Duke and the Programme Manager, Ogun State Agricultural Development Programme, Mrs Solape applauded the availability of loans and hybrid farm inputs to enable the beneficiaries to become successful Agripreneurs. 

The participants, drawn from the 3 Senatorial Districts of the State expressed appreciation to the government and urged the NDE to sustain the laudable programme.

The Director General, National Directorate of Employment, NDE, Mallam Abubakar Fikpo has flagged off the orientation programme for the implementation of the Agency’s Community Based Training Scheme in Ogun State.

The Community Based Training Scheme was aimed at reducing unemployment, boosting wealth and enabling the citizens to overcome poverty, especially at the grassroots.

At the event, held in Abeokuta, Director General of the NDE, Mallam Abubakar Fikpo, who was represented by the Ogun State Coordinator, Mrs Ajoke Osinowo restated the Federal Government’s efforts at helping more youths to become employers of labour.

Mallam Fikpo said adequate measures had been put in place to ensure proper monitoring and supervision of the trainees for effective implementation of the programme.

Addressing the beneficiaries, the Agency’s Director, Vocational Skills Development, Alhaji Isa Abdu who spoke through Baliks Jimada counselled them to make judicious use of the opportunity, pointing out that there were other eligible participants yet to be considered for the scheme.

Alhaji Abdu also encouraged the beneficiaries to justify the federal government’s efforts in youth empowerment and extend vocational training to others in their communities.

In a lecture entitled ” Skills Acquisition, Absence From Drugs” the officer in charge of Narcotics, National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Ogun State Command, Mrs Ifeoma Eucharia appealed to the participants to shun acts that could hinder their progress, emphasizing that drugs abuse could put their future plans in jeopardy.

Some of the 60 beneficiaries of the Scheme, drawn from across the three Senatorial Districts of the State are to be trained in different vocations such as Computer training, Bag making and Catering within the next three months, described the intervention as timely and urged the federal government to sustain the efforts to address the high rate of unemployment in the country.

Four hundred and forty women and youths in Osun East Senatorial District have benefited from the empowerment program organized by the National Directorate of Employment in collaboration with the Senator representing the area, Prince Adenigba Fadahunsi.

The program was segmented into equipping the beneficiaries with skills to establish cottage industries and disbursement of loan to micro business owners known as petty traders.

Addressing the beneficiaries during disbursement of the Micro-Enterprises Enhancement Scheme loan to the people, the Osun State Coordinator of National Directorate of Employment, Alhaji Ismael Abiola noted that the scheme was part of the Federal Government’s initiatives to reinvigorate the economy early this year before

In a remark, Senator Fadahunsi who was re-presented by Mr. John Adeyeluwo advised the beneficiaries  to use the money to support their capital base.

Two beneficiaries of the multi-million naira empowerment scheme, Mrs.

Wuraola Akani and Mrs. Julianah Adewale eulogised the senator, noting that it was rare to see a politician implementing empowerment programmes in such a manner.

Each of the trainees went home with twenty thousand naira while the petty traders got enhancement grant of ten thousand naira each.

Physically challenged persons in the country will be given adequate consideration in the selection of beneficiaries for the forthcoming federal government’s temporary employment of one thousand Nigerians per local government across the nation.

The three months programme under the Special Public Works Scheme is expected to run between October and December this year. 

Chairman, Oyo State Selection Committee, Mr Ope Salami disclosed this while speaking on Straight Talk, an interview programme on Premier 93.5 FM. 

Mr. Salami who said anyone above the age of eighteen can apply and that the forms would be distributed with no cost at National Directorate of Employment, NDE Offices in the 33 local government areas of the state, explained that physically challenged persons will be given an appreciable slot in the scheme.

He said “We want to engage those with disabilities, just specify your disability, there is a column on the form that specify your disability”.

“The disabled will be given slot in the selection. Once you are above eighteen, you can apply, University graduates can apply, and primary six graduates can apply” He said

Mr. Salami gave assurance that the state committee will be fair and transparent in the selection process, noting that every Nigerian, irrespective of political, religious or socio-cultural affiliations would be given equal opportunity.

He promised that the committee would make use of the electronic, print and new media to intimate members of the public as soon as the forms are available.

The National Directorate of Employment, NDE, has reiterated its commitment to boosting the socio-economic growth of the country through its various vocational skills acquisition programmes. 

The Ogun State Director of NDE, Mr. Adekunle Bamigbade stated this during an orientation programme for six hundred trainees on basic National Open Apprenticeship scheme of the agency.

Mr. Bamigbade said the programme which featured thirty beneficiaries each from the twenty local government areas of the state was to put an end to idleness and seeking government employments by the members of the public. 

The NDE state director added that the beneficiaries after three months of training would be given stipends and tools of trade that would make them stand on their own and become employers of labour. 

Some of the beneficiaries appreciated the Federal Government for the opportunity given to them.
