To have food sufficiency and achieve food security, Nigerians must maximally utilize every available piece of land for agriculture.

District Superintendent of Christ Apostolic Church, CAC, Mountain of Mercy, District Headquarters, Ojoo, Ibadan, Oyo State, Pastor Isaiah O. Alade, stated this during a service at the Mountain Chapel, Ojoo.

Pastor Alade said individuals should deem it vital to cultivate food crops such as cassava, rice, maize, pepper and tomatoes, and the rearing of animals to reduce total dependence on the government for food.

He said citizens have roles to play in driving policies and programmes of government to achieve better and productive results.

“We all need to improve on our food productions to truly crash down the current incessant increase in the prices of food commodities in the Country”.

The cleric advised salary earners to practice subsistence farming to feed themselves and their families, rather than relying solely on a monthly stipend which he said was not enough for their upkeep.

Pastor Alade, who is also a farmer, maintained that the population of people consuming food outnumbered the number of farmers across the country, necessitating the need for everyone to invest in farming.

“I encourage every Nigerian at this point to be a farmer, farm what you will eat, and you can also farm to sell the remaining ones and make money to buy other useful and needed things”.

The cleric, however, called on the Government to quickly address the ongoing economic hardship confronting Nigerians in the best interest.
