The Ogun State House of Assembly is finalizing work on the Principal-General Establishment Law, 2024, to give legal backing to the appointment of Principals – General as equivalent of Permanent Secretaries in the civil service.

The lawmakers, during deliberations after the second reading of the Bill, emphasized that its passage into law would be legislation of legacy to aid the career progression of teachers in the State.

Opening debate on the bill, the Sponsor, Mr Lukman Adeleye, who had earlier moved the motion for the second reading of the bill, said the appointment of the Office of Principals-General in the State was a creation of an Executive Order, which needed to be given a legal framework to aid its administrative continuity.

Other lawmakers, including mr Yusuf Amosun, doctor Babatunde Tella, Mr Adebisi Oyedele and Barrister Oluseun Adesanya, also expressed optimism that the passage of the bill would improve the performance and effective management of the education authorities in zones across the State. 

The Speaker of the House, Mr Oludaisi Elemide later committed the bill to the House Committee on Education, Science and Technology for further legislative actions.
