Members of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State have stormed the meeting of the party’s leadership in the Southwest demanding that the post of the Deputy National Chairman of the party should not be taken away from the state.

The protesters conveyed in two luxurious buses stormed the state Secretariat of the APC in Ogo-Oluwa area of Osogbo at about 10 o’clock in the morning carrying placards with various inscriptions such as “Give is the Deputy National Chairman slot or nothing, fair is fair, don’t cheat us and Don’t take us for fools among others”.

Leader of the APC protesters, who addressed journalists, Mr Adeoye Aribasoye explained that since the slot of the Deputy National Chairman was last occupied by the current minister of Trade and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo and the tenure had ended, justice demand that his replacement should be taken from Ekiti.

Mr Aribasoye argued that going by principle of justice and equity as well as the party’s constitution, it was just to return the slot to Ekiti State until the current tenure ends.

The spokesman, who is a member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly submitted in previous similar situations, replacement were always taken from the state.

Also speaking, a female leader of the party, Mrs Oluremi Ajayi said it would amount to injustice if the slot was taken to another state when the tenure of Ekiti State had not ended.

Mrs Ajayi maintained that the protest was to draw the attention of the leadership of the party in the Southwest to the rumour making round that the slot would be given to another state to appease a chieftain of the party.

She urged the party’s leaders to do justice to the matter to ensure that Ekiti retained its slot till the end of the present dispensation.

The seat of the Deputy National Chairman Southwest of the APC became vacant following the appointment of Otunba Niyi Adebayo as a minister of the Federation

Addressing the protesters, the Chairman of the Southwest APC chairmen caucus, Pastor Bankole Oluwajana appealed to them to maintain law and order, with a promise that justice would be done on their complaints.
