The Wife of Osun State Governor, Mrs. Kafayat Oyetola wants the people of the state to put the Violence Against Person Prohibition Law, VAPP, into use by actively avoiding every form of offences captured and reporting same to law enforcement officers.

Mrs. Oyetola made the call at the Press Conference for the Public Presentation of the VAPP law at the Government House Banquet Hall, Osogbo

While commending members of the House of Assembly for the passage of the VAPP Bill, Mrs. Oyetola noted that the law provides comprehensive window of rights to victims of violence.

Mrs. Oyetola urged Journalists to collaborate in ensuring that the law reign supreme for the elimination of every form of violence against persons in the State.

Mrs. Oyetola who is also the Chairman, Southern Governor Wives Forum advised individuals to report any form of violence that constitute offences as captured by the VAPP law, to the law officers.

It will be recalled that Governor Adegboyega Oyetola had signed the bill into law on October 11, 2021.

Vision health has been described as a crucial aspect of health, which is significant to the effective engagement in day to day living.

Wife of the Osun state Governor, Mrs. Kafayat Oyetola stated this at the inaugural of the IleriOluwa Development Initiative Eye Care Program in Osogbo.

Mrs. Oyetola who is also the President of IleriOluwa Development Initiative explained that the IleriOluwa Development Initiative organized the medical intervention as part of its commitment to enhancing the living condition of the people in the State.

Mrs. Oyetola said intervention was put in place in collaboration with Nigeria Ophthalmedic Association to commemorate the 2021 World Sight Day which is celebrated on 14th October every year.

She advised beneficiaries of the Eye Care program take to the advice of the experts as prescribed for them.

In a lecture, an Ophthalmologist, Dr. Olaniyi Ogunniyi identified diabetes, traumas, cataracts and other infection as factors that contribute to reduced or lost vision emphasising the need to constantly seek care for the eyes.

Dr. Ogunniyi said research showed that not less than one billion people suffer from one eye condition or the other worldwide.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Usamotu advised the public to avoid over exposure to sun and computer or phone screens as it affect the eyes.

Dr. Usamotu while urging the people with eye problems to visit opthalmologist for care stressed the need for individual to eat a well balanced diet rich in vitamin A.

The theme for this year World Sight Day is “Love your Eyes”

Parents, religious leaders and teachers have been urged to ensure the teachings of good virtues in the society.

The wife of Osun State Governor, Mrs. Kafayat Oyetola made the call during a national prayer organised by the Nigerian Governors Wives Forum, NGWF, to seek the face God for an end to insecurity and other challenges facing the country. 

Mrs. Oyetola who is also the Chairperson, Southern Governor’s Wives Forum noted that, no part of the country can afford to ignore the situation of insecurity, hence, the need to approach God to urgently intervene and restore peace to Nigeria.

She advised everyone to de-emphasize seeing money as the ultimate and to imbue in the children the sense of dignity, love, and service to the community.

President of Women Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria, Mrs. Oluremi Wilson in a short exhortation identified greediness and self-centeredness of a few people as the cause of disunity in the country.

Mrs. Wilson called for peaceful coexistence and the shunning of every act capable of causing division in the country.

Also, Alhaja Latifat Kolawole urged the wife of the governor not to rely solely on accounts of her aides while seeking genuine information about the performance of the present administration, but endeavour to make herself accessible to all segments in the state in a bid to feel the pulse of the people.

During the prayer session tagged “All Women Prayer for Peace and Security” which drew women from different religious groups and societies across Osun State, prayers were offered for God’s intervention in the situation of the country. Funmi Adekoya

Wife of the Osun State Governor State, Mrs. Kafayat Oyetola has urged school authorities in the state to key into various advocacy campaign aimed at achieving good healthy living by ensuring toilet facilities in various schools are kept in clean and hygienic conditions.

Mrs. Oyetola made the call at a programme to mark year 2021 Menstural Hygiene Day with the theme “Stepping up Action for Menstrual Hygiene and Health” held at Apara Memorial High School in Atakumosa West local government area of the state of Osun.

She noted that the significance of the special day is part of the international efforts at tackling the health and social challenges that tends to affect the well-being of girls and women in the society.

Mrs. Oyetola pointed out that girls often face challenges in ensuring proper management of the monthly flow ranging from lack of proper information at the onset of menstruation, lack of access to quality materials such as reusable pads to soak up the flow and privacy of changing places when the girls are in school or Public places.

The wife of the Governor who is also the Wash Ambassador in Osun stressed that unhygienic handling of menstural flow in girls could trigger diseases which could negatively impacts school attendance and performance.

She revealed that her NGO and Osun Government have developed a comprehensive campaign on the need to improve access to water Sanitation and hygiene in the state in which one of the expected fruits of the campaign is availability of decent toilets in every home, Communities, schools, market and Public places in the state.

She urged school authorities to give more awareness to issues of water Sanitation and hygiene by setting up wash clubs to ensure the school environment to be more friendly for academic activities.

Mrs. Oyetola also implored mother’s to refrain from cutting genital parts of girls child because victims of the act are tends to experience longer and more painful menstruation than those not circumcised.

Highlights of the programme was presentation of sanitary pads to female students of Apara Memorial High school by the wife of the Governor.

Mothers have been advised to take care of themselves as they take care of their children and other family members.

Wife of Osun State Governor, Mrs. Kafayat Oyetola gave the advice when she paid a visit to first baby of the year at Asubiaro State hospital, Oshogbo.

Mrs. Oyetola represented by wife of the Secretary for the State Government, Mrs. Oyebamiji, said mothers should not neglect their health as they discharge their duty in taking care of their family.

She urged them to always visit the hospital for treatment rather than engaging in self medication.

Mrs. Oyetola while congratulating the family of the new baby of the year, Mr. Olalekan and Mrs. Opeyemi Ibrahim, advised nursing mothers to do exclusive breastfeeding for their children to make them healthy.

The governor’s wife also advised mothers and fathers to work together in the proper upbringing of their children as they are the future leaders.

The new baby of the Year weighing 3.2kg was born at 1:07am and was presented with gifts and money. Other new babies at the ward were also presented with money and gifts.

Wife of Osun State Governor, Mrs. Kafayat Oyetola wants Nigerians to show more love to one another, especially at this trying period of the country.

Mrs. Oyetola, who made the call at the annual Christmas party for children in the state, noted that the COVID-19 pandemic has further underscored the need to show love to everyone.

While describing Christmas as a season of love, the Governor’s wife urged every Nigerians to let the tempo of love for one another be increased at this period.

She maintained that the situation still calls for vigilance as the case of COVID-19 was increasing daily calling for total compliance to all guidelines to prevent spread of the virus.

Mrs. Oyetola commended mothers for the extra-ordinary job they had been doing in ensuring the safety and welfare of their children which has been made more hectic with the lockdown that attended the first wave of the pandemic.

Mrs. Oyetola advised the children to be of good behavior, shun every form of vices and behaviour that is criminal but focus on their studies.
