Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has inaugurated the State Steering Committee for Oyo State World Bank Supported Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Programme (NEWMAP).

The committee is being chaired by the state Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mr Kehinde Ayoola.

Inaugurating the committee at the Executive Chamber, Governor’s office, Ibadan, Governor Makinde said five hundred million naira has been approved by the state government to support the programme while the Federal Government would also release five million dollars as counterpart fund.

Government Makinde, who noted that the project would last for 18months, urged the committee to judiciously utilize the time frame and put a stop to flooding, erosion and other natural disasters in the state.

A lawmaker representing Iseyin/Kajola/Itesiwaju/Iwajowa Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Abuja, Mr Shina Peller, had recently presented flooding report in Kajola Local Government Area, which claimed lives and property to Governor Makinde.
