Osun State Government has announced measures towards revitalizing its Sport Sector.

Addressing a press Conference at the Governor’s Lounge, Secretariat Abere, the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi announced that the Government would establish a Sport Trust Fund.

Prince Adewusi also announced that government would set up a Sport Commission as the practice in neighbouring states of Ekiti, Delta and Ondo.

The Deputy Governor who also doubles as the Commissioner for Sport explained that the Sport Trust Fund would encourage multinational companies, private ogranisations and philanthropic individuals to partner with the government , providing vital resources to further develop the sports industry.

He also hinted that the state would restructure the Osun State Games Village located between
Ijebu-Jesa and Ijeda in Oriade local government area to make the facility “serve as a hub for athlete training and preparation, as well as hosting various competitions, further solidifying Osun State’s status as a sports powerhouse.”

Expressing concern about the state of the Osogbo Township Stadium, Prince Adewusi said a comprehensive upgrade of sports facilities across the State was key in the agenda of the government.

“These improvements will extend to the sports facilities in zones such as Iwo, Ilesha, Ile-Ife, Osogbo, Ilesa Orangun, Ede, Ejigbo and so on, ensuring that athletes have access to top-notch facilities.”

He added that each of the thirty (30 Local governments would adopt and sponsor a specific sport or games within their domain, while the intercollegiate games and Principal Cup would be reintroduced for Youths and students.

The Osun Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports remarked that government would restructure the state’s football teams, including Osun United and Osun Babes, as well give priority to sport involving Persons Living With Disabilities.
