Journalists in Ogun State have commenced the activities for the 2023 Press Week of the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, with a thanksgiving service, held at the Victory Life Bible Church, VLBC, Ajebo Road, Abeokuta.

Representatives of various chapels of the union from across the State were gathered at the church to offer thanksgiving to God ahead of the week-long activities scheduled to climax on Friday.

In a sermon entitled “Break Forth” The General Overseer of VLBC, Apostle Lawrence Achudume tasked professionals in the media industry to avoid political distractions, if they must succeed in their assignment.

The cleric condemned the practice where some journalists engaged in praise-singing political leaders, even in their failure, maintaining that upholding discipline, objectivity and balanced reportage was key to affecting the world positively.

The cleric pointed out that  God created Man with specific assignments and urged journalists to make deliberate efforts to fulfil their purpose and be successful in their calling.

Referencing the book of Acts, Chapter Two, Verse Two, Apostle Achudume pointed out that the Bible had explained God as a God of sudden, that could be relied on at all times, especially during emergencies.

In a remark, the State Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju expressed appreciation to God for His love and mercy upon all members of the union and pledged their renewed commitment to the process of nation-building.
