The Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Timothy Owoeye has stressed the need for Nigerians to engage in large scale farming to boost food production.

The Speaker stated this during Plenary session while reacting to food blockade to the South.

He said, it is time for people in the South to start engaging in food and animal production to reduce dependence on importation of foods from other region.

Mr. Owoeye also directed the Commissioner for Agriculture to make available ten acres of land for farming to members of the House, declaring Thursday and Friday as days for members to work on their farmlands.

Meanwhile, the Osun Private Veterinary Premises and Ambulatory Practice Regulation Bill 2020 has passed through the second reading on the floor of the state Assembly.

Reading the Policy Trust of the Bill, the Majority Leader, Mr. Maruf Olanrewaju explained that the Bill when passed would check excesses of quacks in the profession and also give room to penalize unregistered practitioners.

Some of the members who spoke on the Bill, including member representing Ilesha West, Mr. Wale Asedoyin and Iwo, Mr. Adebayo Usamotu called for speedy passage of the Bill as it would sanitize the Veterinary profession as well as increase IGR for the state through registration of practitioners.

In his remark, the Speaker, Mr. Timothy Owoeye said the House to would do justice on the passage of the Bill.
