Five schools from Akure North Local Government in Ondo State have benefited from the education support initiative of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ in the state.
Speaking at the event, the National President of NAWOJ, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Omowole said it was part of the corporate responsibility of the association to assist the poor and the less privileged in the society.
Mrs. Omowole represented by the NAWOJ National Auditor, Mrs. Olusola Jacobs appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to empower women and assist girl-child to stay in school.
Also speaking, Vice President B Zone, Mrs. Morenike Esan said the initiative was aimed at reducing the high rate of students drop out from schools due to poverty.
Mrs. Esan assured that NAWOJ would continue to contribute meaningfully to the society.
Speaking on behalf of Ondo state government, the Special Adviser to the governor on education, Dr. Olawunmi Iwalola said government would ensure frequent renovations of schools and make sure students do not drop out of schools due to poverty.
Goodwill messages were also received from the General Managers, Radio Nigeria, Positive FM, Mr. Tunde Abiodun and that of the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, Mr. Seun Ojelade where they promised continued support for NAWOJ programmes and activities.
The Ondo State chairperson of NAWOJ, Mrs. Doris Olumoko thanked God for the success of the initiative and promised to do more.
Also, some of the beneficiaries of the initiative appreciated the gesture.
