It was a day of accolades and honour as family, friends, colleagues and mentees celebrated the impactful life of a renowned scholar, security and policing researcher, Professor Oyesoji Aremu as he marked his diamond jubilee.

According to the biblical saying, “Seest thou a man diligent in his work? He shall stand before kings; He shall not stand before mean men.” (Proverbs 22:29)

This best describes the honour done to the celebrant as dignitaries from all walks of life registered their presence at the well-decorated arena venue of the event.

Among the guests were the wife of Ekiti State governor, Dr Olayemi Biodun-Oyebanji, chief executive officers, academics, members of the Nigerian Baptist Convention and kinsmen from Ejigbo Local Government, Osun State, among whom was the Deputy Director, News and Current Affairs, Radio Nigeria, Ibadan Zonal Station, Mr Adewumi Faniran who all gave the gorgeously dressed celebrant and his wife, Olajumoke a rousing welcome as they danced to the tunes supplied by the band.

Tributes poured in when a memoir written by the celebrant which chronicled his experience as the Director, University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre, UIDLC, was unveiled by attending dignitaries.

Reviewing the book, entitled: “My Unibadan Distance Learning Centre Years: A Memoir”, Professor Francis Egbokhare of the Department of Linguistics, University of Ibadan said the ten-chapter book, with a foreword by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Aare Afe Babalola, x-rayed the shortcomings and gains of open distance learning in Nigeria as well as recommended workable realities of running this mode of learning as a venture.

In an address, the wife of Ekiti State governor, Dr. Olayemi Abiodun-Oyebanji described the celebrant as accommodating and humane in all his dealings, saying the quality endeared him to numerous appointments including his recent engagement as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Achievers University, Ondo.

Speaking on the many impacts of Professor Oyesoji Aremu, two guest directors, Institute for Peace and Strategic Studies, University of Ibadan, Professor Olawale Albert and the Director General, Development Agenda for Western Nigeria, DAWN Commission, Seye Oyeleye described him as an intelligent and foremost researcher in policing.

Wife of the celebrant, Deaconess Olajumoke Aremu described her husband as hardworking and caring while also appreciating God for sparing his life.

In an interview, the celebrant, Professor Oyesoji Aremu, said his attainment of age sixty was by God’s grace and opportunity to serve God and humanity.

Professor Oyesoji Aremu, a professor of Guidance Counseling and Deputy Vice Chancellor, Achievers University, Ondo, is a well-travelled scholar who carved a niche for himself in the areas of policing and criminal justice as well as Open Distance e-learning globally.

The 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME has commenced on Saturday across the country.


In Ibadan, the Oyo state capital our correspondent reports that the exercise which started on schedule in some of the designated centres hosted a high number of candidates and parents who conveyed their children to the centres.


At the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Computer Based Test, CBT, Centre, the UTME candidates were arranged in batches into the CBT halls without hitches.


In an interview, one of the candidates, l lTomiwa Akinseye said the exam started on time, adding that some of the questions were not unexpected as she had already prepared for the exam.


A parent who accompanied her child to the centre, Mrs Kemi Jegede, said the 2021 UTME enrollees had increased greatly stressing the need for JAMB to brace up for higher turn out of candidates in the future.

As at time of filing this report, radio Nigeria observed that non of the covid 19 safety protocols was complied with.

It was a celebration of selfless service and commendation galore at the thanksgiving session for a Professor of Adult Education, Rashid Aderinoye who just retired from University of Ibadan at the age of 70.

The programme which was put in place by the children of the don and was held at University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre had in attendance members of his family, relatives, friends and colleagues.

To a Senor Advocate of Nigeria, Mallam Olaolu Alli, Professor Aderinoye is an inspiration to a lot of people as his selflessness was unparalleled in all ramifications.

Professor Kamil Oloso of Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, University of Ibadan, described the celebrant as an epitome of humility, and a disciplinarian with sound human relationship.

 Vice Chancellor, Osun State University, Professor Olabode Popoola, said Professor Aderinoye is a man that could stoop to conquer for positive reasons and always in support of good causes.

One of the contenders for the position of Vice Chancellor of University of Ibadan, Professor Adeyinka Aderinto described the retiree as a great mobilizer, and a no-nonsense man who has no patience for laziness and mediocrity.

Wife of Oyo State Deputy Governor, Professor Amdalat Olaniyan said the celebrant has touched many lives through his open door policy on assistance.  

To the Head of Department, Adult Education, University of Ibadan, Professor Kester Ojokheta, the don has played a prominent role in his life from being his first PhD student to the attainment of professional cadre and the current position as HOD. 

He said he was ready to champion the cause of immortalizing Professor Aderinoye and called for collaboration from the children to ensure that his tremendous contributions to the department remain indelible.

In a lecture entitled “Meritorious Service”, a lecturer at University of Ilorin, Professor AbdRasaq Alaro who extolled the virtues of good deeds of the celebrant, said the Professor Aderinoye had bequeathed a good name on his children and unborn generations.

The grandchildren of Professor Aderinoye also described their grandpa as loving, caring and accommodating.

 In a remark, Professor Rashid Aderinoye who appreciated God for the gift of life said he would not relent on impacting on people’s lives and identified godliness and sincerity as essential tools for success.

The programme also featured recitation of Quran and prayers for the celebrant.

Candidates registered for the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, TRTN, professional examination this morning found it difficult to write the examination due to limited internet server for computers allocated for the exercise. 

In an interview, some of them at the University of Ibadan Distance Learning centre who spoke with premier FM lamented the hardship they passed through to access the facilities for the exam as only one hundred and fifty internet server were said to have been provided for over three thousand candidates registered for the exam in Ibadan. 

They said the two day scheduled exercise which ended today will disenfranchise many candidates from writing the exams. 

Two of them, Mr Segun Adeloye and Mrs olowe Oluwaseun appealed to the organizers to conclude all arrangements before fixing another date with a view to conducting hitch free TRTN professional exam. 

The teachers’ professional examination was later postponed by the organizers till further notice due to inadequacies. 

None of the organizers could not be reached at the time of filling this report.
