Wife of Oyo State Deputy Governor, Dr Amdalat Olaniyan says empowerment of women will eradicate poverty in the country.
She stated this in Ibadan at an empowerment programme and scholarship presentation organised by Lateefah Moyosore Durosinmi Foundation.
Dr Olaniyan said when women were empowered, families and the nation would be positively affected and overall economy would be enhanced.
On her part, a lecturer at the Department of Arabic and Islamic studies, University of Ibadan, Dr Habeeba Oladosu reminded Muslim women that to fulfill obligations of Allah, which included zakat and Hajj rites, women must be gainfully employed and should not leave all responsibilities to their husbands.
The founder, Dr Lateefah Durosimi said the drive to empower women and children was part of her activities to give back to the society and help the needy.
Dr Durosimi implored the well-to-do to always learn to give back to the society and be their brothers keeper.
Highlight of the programme was presentation of scholarship awards to twenty-six students and grants to fourteen women in small scale businesses drawn across the six Southwest states and Ife Central Local Government.
